Character Name: Dezima
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Craft/Rank: N/A (Weyrbrat/Candidate)
Description: Fairly lean with some muscle to her small frame. Petite is probably a better description of this gal. She comes in at about a solid 5'4" with light to medium skin tone. Sharp blue eyes gaze out of a gently angled face, usually in an expression of mild amusement. Her straight light brown hair is typically worn in a twisted bun of sorts to keep it out of her face. Attire consists of something similar to riding gear. Just makes it easier to maneuver around in a good pair of pants and boots. If you do happen to get a good closer inspection, you may notice small thin scars scattering her hands and arms. Signs that this girl is not afraid to do a little work. (Note: Image ref didn't really have a 'light brown', and that is the closest I could get OTL)
Personality: It is probably not unusual and most likely expected in the young weyrbrats to be curious little wherries. And Dezima fits that perfectly. If she's not doing chores or other candidate duties, she loves to explore around the weyr with the other younglings like herself. Her curiosity is endless but not stupidity. She knows when she's sticking her nose into something it doesn't belong. Once or twice she's found herself in trouble for trying to check out some new portion of the Weyr she's just discovered (but most of the adult crowd already knew about). Her curiosity also extends into her willingness to learn new things. Not being able to read or write quite as well as others, she usually has to seek out someone who can and then hope they are willing to read it to her. Dezima is working to learn how to improve her reading, though. She does pretty well and has found she doesn't have to ask for help very often. She also finds her curiosity drawing her to harpers that will tell of old ballads or sing of songs that speak of Pern's history and old traditions.
Curiosity and willingness to learn aside, Dezima is very spunky as well. She is always ready and willing to jump in and do a task while making a small sidetrack to check out some rumor or interesting thing. Dezima is also a kind hearted soul (most of the time < <;; ) and will make a great friend or ally. She is willing to give anyone a chance to prove they are trustworthy or have what it takes to be a good friend. Just don't rub her the wrong way. She can have quite the little attitude. Call her a name jokingly, and she'll joke right back with a smart arse remark. Growl or call her something obscene? She'll sock you in the face. It's best to try and stay on her good side. Should you happen to fall on her bad side, be warned. She will be a little spitfire to watch out for. But if you are one of her friends or loved ones, then you have yourself one very loyal and protective gal to lean on.
Dezima is also very gullible when it comes to being told things, especially when it's in regards to history. She'll be a pretty firm believer if you make your argument convincing enough. This has lead to her being laughed at on more than one occasion for thinking what she knew was correct because someone had told her it was. She is trying to be less of a gullible t**t, but so far she is failing miserably. It's just difficult to tell if someone is pulling your leg or not! She does learn not to believe the same persons word so easily a second time, though she might still have a lingering desire to think what they say is truth. Three times in a row by the same person though, and Dezima will not believe a word out of that persons mouth again, even if it really is truth.
History: Not a very exciting childhood, as it was much the same as others like herself. Weyrbrats. She was one of those babe's born to a coupling from a Flight. Dezima doesn't even know who her parents are. Which is fine by her. It's not something that is exceptionally important for her to know anyways. All she cares about is that both her parents were indeed dragonriders and she hopes to follow in their footsteps and become one herself. She doesn't really have a 'family' like one would think in terms of a mother and father either. Her family is the Weyr itself. She was given to the lower portion of the Weyr to be raised with other weyrbrats. And just like their infamous name, she was a brat all the way. Some may argue she still is a brat, but she would like to think she's grown out of that. A little.
Once old enough to walk, she began being taught the ways of weyrlife from the bottom up. Cleaning pots, peeling tubers, learning to mend clothes (not very well), how to polish riding saddles. Always busy it seemed. But the good thing that came out of this, much to her curious deviant sides content, Dezima learned the Weyr like the back of her hand. Or most of it. There were still areas she hadn't seen or been to before that she would find every now and then.
On top of her other chores and studies, she worked a little harder when it came to reading and writing. But mostly the reading. The old written words fascinated her and she loved hearing of anything that fell into the category of 'Pern History'. She especially loved hearing of the newest bit of history, with these Aytipcal dragons. The mere idea of such a thing confused her and more than slightly appalled her. What was wrong with the traditional dragons? Why had people dabbled in their experiments and discovered these new dragons? She preferred tradition over new age. Traditional colors to new colors. However, she couldn't lie in the fact there was a sort of horrified fascination in this new chapter of Pern history. Dezima just wanted nothing to do with it personally. Learning about it was alright in her book though.
