((Backdated, ic-lly takes places just after Prom))

Despondent and upset over being chewed out by something that didn't even have a jacking mouth, all Tess wanted to do was hang upside down in her room for the rest of her unlife. Or for the remainder of her stay in the school. Whichever was longer. But she was too worked up to be able to keep her mind unoccupied for long and instinctively she righted herself in order to retrieve her skellephone.

She was grateful her parents had decided against cancelling her skellular plan and the interweb subscription. Idly, she began to key in the usual sites she visited, and saw amongst the new questions on Groanspring one from a certain XiuYing.

XiuYing on Groanspring
S-so! How was your prom experience? Hopefully next year I work up the courage to dance with more of you! :CC

Tess didn't know that it was the ghoul's actual name, considering many students used different handles for their usernames but she did recognize the avatar. Crimson eyes narrowed at the baku ghoul, recalling how she'd had her date suddenly stolen to the dance floor without so much as a by-your-leave from the other ghoul. Tess wasn't above sharing Mac, after all, Lizzy had gone and had some private time with the reaper so Tess wasn't about to object to another ghoul. It wasn't like she had a crush on Mac, not that the boil wasn't attractive and charming in his own way, but it was the principle of the thing!

With as much venom as she could muster, Maritess keyed in her response.

Prom was the first big event that Xiu had attended at Amityville, and she certainly hoped it wouldn't be her last. Despite being an ordinarily timid ghoul, she was surprised (and of course, pleased) to find that she had managed to loosen up and have fun for the duration of the dance. Sure, she didn't actually dance all that much, but she did get a couple of awesome pictures! That was good enough for her.

The first thing she had done upon getting home from the prom was type up a Groanspring question for her fellow Amityville peers. It wasn't until the next day--after a long night's sleep--that she woke up to check on the replies. She was pleased to see that so many people had fun, but there was one message in particular stood out to her.

halvedoff on Groanspring
I was LONELY. My date kept getting spirited away by other ghouls.

A frown immediately spread over the Baku's face, and her brows knit together in concern. The poor ghoul! She wasn't sure who this "halvedoff" was, but Xiu felt terrible to hear that she hadn't had a good time. She quickly typed back a sympathetic response and pressed "send". Who could this boil--the one who had been "spirited away" as she had put it--be?

Tess was alerted by her squee-mail that she had a response. She had not expected to get one so quickly but she felt... vindicated by it. Ha! The other ghoul must be guilty for her actions and was trying to apologize! When she opened her groanspring account, she did not find the apology she was hoping to get. Well, duh, Tess, what did you expect given your hinting?

XiuYing on Groanspring
D8 Oh my! That doesn't sound like fun. :C Who was your date?

She stared in disbelief. Seriously!? Seriously!? Was this XiuYing ghoul messing with her? Was she playing a game with her?! Oh, it's on! Tess' fingers rapidly keyed in her reaction, unfortunately it was just as indirect and subtle as her first response.
PostPosted: Mon Jul 18, 2011 1:21 am

Xiu jumped when her skelephone suddenly vibrated. A Groanspring squee-mail? Already? The other ghoul must have been online right that moment. She checked the reply, and her expression immediately became one of pure confusion.

halvedoff on Groanspring
Oh I'm sure you know him.

She...knew him? That was odd! She couldn't quite recall seeing this ghoul--Maritess was her name, according to her Groanspring--at all, never mind with a date. That being said, she had been ridiculously distracted throughout the whole prom. One minute she was talking to someone, and the next, she would whisk herself away to take photos. It was really no surprised that she was a bit oblivious to who or what was happening around her.

That being said, there weren't too many boils that she knew that didn't have dates. Shun had been with Mitsu. Mot had gone with Lizzy, and she and Vaith had gone together. A name did suddenly pop into her head though--the name of a boil she had spoken to at prom, and who she had not seen with a date. Quickly, she typed in a reply and sent it off.

Tess hadn't seen the baku with anyone who wasn't already in the group. Most of the couples were obviously paired up when the winged ghoul arrived. Granted, she did instruct the reaper to meet her at the venue rather than pick her up but the rest of her evening had been either by his side or within his general vicinity. After all, he had gotten her drinks and something to eat and even danced with her! She'd only danced with Mac and while she did sit with the group, it was only because everyone else had decided to take their seats.

But rather than be direct and upfront and tell the other ghoul who her date was, well, Tess had fallen into her old ways. She really shouldn't have been surprised by Xiu's confusion.

XiuYing on Groanspring
...um, d-do I? ;; Were you Demi's date, maybe?

Really? Really?! Who the Jack was Demi!?!?! Tess' face contorted in complete confusion, one brow rising so high it might very well have met her hairline. For a few moments she simply stared. The creak of a cigar box snapped her back to her senses, and with a glare, she responded.
PostPosted: Thu Jul 21, 2011 2:59 pm

While waiting for a reply, Xiu flopped back on her bed, staring up at the ceiling with furrowed brows. Demi had seemed like the most logical choice when she typed that reply--she hadn't seen him with a date--but now that she thought about it...well, for most of the night, she had seen him hanging out with Roch. Roch, that reaper who was most certainly not a ghoul. Though...she and Levi did end up talking to the canine boil at the end of the night.

I-I'm not one of the ghouls who "spirited away" Maritess' date, am I?

Jumping at her skelephone vibrating, she quickly checked the message with fumbling hands.

halvedoff on Groanspring
Demi? No, but he WAS part of the rather... suggestive congo line of boils.

The Baku exhaled in relief, knowing that Demi hadn't been her date (and so she and Levi were not guilty for talking to him). However, that did leave the problem of who was her date. Suggestive congo line? Could she mean the hip-thrusting group? Xiu knit her brows, trying hard to remember back to who was in that dance. There had been so many people...

Frowning, she keyed in her confused response and sent it.

Maritess didn't even bother checking her squeemail when she heard the alert. Instead, heading straight for the groanspring page to read:

XiuYing on Groanspring
...I'm sorry, I really don't know who you're talking about. DD8 Um, if I may ask, who spirited your date away? :C

The undead was starting to feel her temper flare and her pale arms shake in anger as she read the latest response. This demoness was good at getting Tess' hackles up with her little innocent-act. If Tess hadn't already such a negative impression of the other ghoul, she might have actually believed it. But no, Tess wasn't going to let the straw that broke the scammel's back get the better of her. She continued her little passive-aggressive war with a volley that the winged ghoul hoped would hit its mark.
PostPosted: Sun Jul 24, 2011 1:38 pm

Who was this ghoul, Xiu wondered? And was she in any of the pictures she had taken that night? While waiting for a reply, Xiu got up to grab the photos she had developed, moving back to her bed and spreading them out on her sheets. Before she got a chance to look at them, her skelephone alerted her to a reply.

halvedoff on Groanspring
Lizzy would know. She borrowed him for a moment too. But at least she ASKED me if it were alright first.

Lizzy? Lizzy danced with him too? What happened that night was a bit of a blur to the Baku--there had been so much stuff going on!--so she turned to her photos to use as reference. She knew that Lizzy had danced with Mot, but they had been dates, so that was to be expected! But who else had she--

--Oh. Freezing, Xiu picked up one picture in particular, the image of her demoness friend dancing with a particular reaper. "Mr.Grumpyface--no, Mac?" She squeaked aloud, suddenly looking a little concerned. But wait, she thought that Mac went with...no, that made no sense because she went with...

Oh Jack.

Her response to the other ghoul over Groanspring was short and concise, but was true to the exact feelings that she held at that very moment.

There were no words. No words to express the smug satisfaction Tess felt in her moment of triumph upon opening her groanspring and seeing the demon ghoul's reaction. While tone is rarely carried over in the form of text, Maritess liked to think that that was what emoticons were for. And judging from the ones visible on her screen, this XiuYing had no other choice but to admit to her misdeed!

XiuYing on Groanspring
<:C I...uh oh. ;;;;;;;

A cocky smirk appeared on her lips, one she rarely ever allowed herself to make outside the privacy of her room, as she keyed in her response. And as if to show the other ghoul that she too could fight emoticon with emoticon, she added in her own. Ha! Tess would like to see how the demoness could feign ignorance now!
PostPosted: Mon Jul 25, 2011 1:39 pm

Xiu seemed a little horrified by all of this. So Maritess' date was Mac? Then that meant that one of the ghouls who had stolen Mac away for the evening had been her--she recalled pulling the reaper away to dance because he seemed uncomfortable at the table. Apparently she had done so right in front of his date.

The reply she received didn't make her feel any less guilty.

halvedoff on Groanspring
Figured it out, have you? :3

B-but wait! Was it really Mac? Or was there a chance that she had the wrong person in mind?

She wanted to confirm who the other ghoul's date was. Throughout this whole exchange, the name of the boil in question had never been brought up--only hinted at. Maybe, just maybe...? The Baku was probably only holding onto blind hope when she sent a message back.

The winged ghoul had been refreshing her groanspring page like crazy since she sent her reply. Clearly, she needed something better to occupy her time with. Finally there was a new message waiting for her. Her eyes narrowed in suspicion as she read the demon ghoul's response.

XiuYing on Groanspring
...Were you...Mac's date?

Well, someone wanted to dig their own grave, it seemed. And while the expression was sort of lost on the undead, Tess thought it apt for the demoness. Finally, a moment where she had no other choice but to be direct! And yet, Tess' answer to the ghoul's question was still not entirely direct.
PostPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 2:10 pm

Xiu was panicking, her tail swishing behind her wildly as she continously refreshed, waiting for a reply. And--there. There is was.

halvedoff on Groanspring
Well, he did ASK me to the prom so I don't know. You tell me.

The Baku immediately flopped down on her bed, face down, and groaned into her pillow. So Maritess' date really had been Mac's date! Which meant that she--Xiu--was one of the ghouls that the undead was talking about. To think that she would feel guilty for dancing with someone who she ordinarily never would of considered dancing with. Rolling over, she grabbed at her skelephone and typed in a frantic apology, hoping that it placate the other ghoul just a tad.

Or...or did this Maritess ghoul like spookies? Perhaps she could find out which room she was in and bring her an apology-slash-peacemaking gift!

The winged ghoul stretched her arms out in satisfaction over her head. Especially when she saw the reaction she got from the demoness over on groanspring.

XiuYing on Groanspring
;; I'm sorry, I didn't know! I didn't actually know that he had a date, otherwise I wouldn't have asked Mr. Grumpyface to dance!

Good! You should feel terrible! It wasn't much of a triumph, not in the grand scheme of things, but Tess was in dire need of victories. She was going to take it where she could. Maybe rub in a little salt if she could. Was she coming off as petty? Jack yeah she was, but seeing this ghoul giving nicknames to her date like they were some sort of good chums just seemed to push Tess' buttons. It was probably why her keyed in response was as snide as it came out.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 17, 2011 1:26 pm

If at all possible, the ghoul's response made Xiu feel even more terrible than before.

halvedoff on Groanspring
Oh I don't object to you having danced with him. I just never got the CHANCE to object or agree. Silly me, I suppose it's my fault for being half the ghoul you are.

Xiu didn't even know how to reply to this one. Of all things, she had never meant to imply that she was any better or different from this Maritess ghoul! The Baku typed in a reply, but she quickly deleted it and started over. This happened a few times, but she wasn't sure how exactly to get her point across. In the end, she wasn't able to come up with anything at all. It was hard typing something simple and concise when there was so much she had to say.

Maybe talking face to face at some point would be ideal. Or...or maybe not. The thought of meeting Maritess in person honestly terrified Xiu, though she was certain that the other ghoul, like everyone else she had seen so far, probably wasn't a bad person? She was just...angry right now.

Tess had been waiting eagerly, maybe a little too eagerly, for the other ghoul's response. The winged ghoul wasn't usually so catty and didn't normally enjoy being so snide but her temper and pride and a whole slew of things had been building up inside her and this was the unfortunate blow up. Then again, it was rather quiet for a blow up and concentrated only to one individual, whom Tess doubted she'd ever run into again. (Oh Tess, if you only knew.) She felt her skelephone vibrate and immediately refreshed the Groanspring page.

XiuYing on Groanspring
:C I-I apologize, I really, really didn't know that he had a date. Had I known, I promise you I would have asked first!

Crimson eyes rolled at the response. "Of course she'd apologize, she's probably going for the kindly innocent routine to get me to lower my guard and forgive her," she huffed. "Well, I'm not falling for it." And with that, Tess logged off. But to fight the urge to give the baku a reply, she needed to keep herself preoccupied. Right now, the last thing she should be doing is staying cooped up in her dorm room. Perhaps giving her minipet a walk would be a good idea!
