when i EV train i breed the pokemon till i get one with a nature that compatible with the battle style you will be using. plus EV enhancing items like macho brace.
my umbreon for example. i revolve around using curse for him. it raises his attack and defense in battle. it makes him a tank, but he was still vulnerable to special attacks. so i bred one with a careful nature. it raises sp def EVs while lowering sp atk EVs. since mine uses physical attacks that nature worked cuz it raised a necessary EV while lowering an unnecessary one.
i also leveled him up while hold a power band, which gives extra sp def EV. and i think one of the parents was holding it while breeding to give him extra sp def IVs as well.
pokerus grants double EVs, but ive never got it on the newer games.
also certain pokemon give out certain EVs, but ive never really been that serious to go hunting specific pokemon to kill
hope that helped sweatdrop

That question is fine here, though if any of the crew feel it deserves to be anywhere else, they will simply move the thread.
Now, are you asked what to battle in order to raise certain stats? Or how to ev train in general?

Both actually and theses stats specifically: I was given an infernape to train to these in B/W: 252 attack, 252 speed, 6 HP. it's @ lv 93 right now with these: (jolly nature often dozes off) Hp 291 Atk 283 Def 140 sp atk 182 sp def 149 speed 295 Am I heading in the right direction? this is my first time ev training.

Oh jebus... Level 93 it's definitely gonna have random EV's everywhere... So first, you'd have to drop all of them. Use berries, specifially, Pomeg, Kelpsy, Qualot, Hondew, Grepa and Tamato. You will need all 6 of these. Make it so when you use them, they can't drop the stat anymore. Or if full happiness already (unlikely if you traded for it), it will just not work. If you can do that, I'll type up some more, but if you can't, your training stops there..

(i think if I faint it and used the herbs it will keep it from staying friendly to fast)

Or if you maxed happiness, the berry will still work, as long as one effect still applies. So max happiness and 0 EV's will "have no effect". So basically, as soon as you get either of those messages for every stat you can start EVing the pokemon (Infernape in this case). Usually EV training takes place first, so this step can be skipped. As every pokemon freshly caught or hacthed has 0 EV's in every stat. Your Infernape just has had a lot of battling, and every pokemon he gets experience from killing (Exp. Share, and switching counts too) he'll get EV's from. Serebii can tell you which pokemon give what stat. A question I'll need to know, is what game you plan on EV training him in. So I can find some routes that are helpful. So yeah, just tell me when you get all those stats down to 0 and I'll help you with the next steps. Good luck though.

No problem. Tell me if you do manage getting the EV's all down to 0. It can be hard getting all the berries necessary, though that's the only way to get them down. =/

Happiness has nothing to do with it. As long as it says "can't go any lower" then you know you have a clean slate to work with (ie- EV 0). Still, Berries are a pain to get in B/W.

This would be so much easier if it was Soul Silver, the very first route is Speed and Attack Ev's only

Yes I miss being able to grow them in game instead of in the dream world. Shinno (sp) it was so easy to get them to grow. Plenty of places to plant them.

The first route in B/W is also Speed and Attack only haha Lillipup and Patrat = 1 Attack EV Basculin = 2 Speed EV's Occasionally you'll bump into Audino too which is worth 2 HP I believe
