Like most mission meetings and debriefs, it was just verging eight o'clock in the morning as the last of the new Hunters gathered together for their latest debriefing in the same room as always. However, instead of the usual meet-and-greet, their rather eccentric instructor (though it was hard sometimes to pinpoint exactly which instructor was the most eccentric) had kindly lead them on some sort of wild and exotic journey down several flights of stairs, possibly a back door, then several more back doors, through what seemed like the inside of a cave, and the finally a dead end.
A dead end with a door.
Caelius waited patiently, or as patiently as he could, as the door hissed and moved. Florescent light spilled out from between the gaps.
They were staring at a very familiar room, lined with equal, symmetrical rows of what looked like white pods, not dissimilar to something they would see in a science fiction movie. Most of the pods were still closed, and some were even labeled with some sort of yellow tape- if the Hunters looked closer they could even see the writing - "DECEA-"
- "All right don't linger, find an open apparatus and key in its registration number as well as your name on the screen next to it, otherwise, you might just find yourself going back to sleep for a very long time." It sounded like he was actually considering that to not be such a terrible option.
"As Aria mentioned, and of course this time with a little more awareness of your situation, you will be navigating Dr. H's experimental golems, which have already been set close to your first mission location. The epitome of Fear - 'Halloween', if we have it be - are in the midst of mingling and gathering forces, of growing stronger, your mission is to merely observe, not provoke. Mingle with the species, ask questions, but never ******** sympathize." Caelius all but spat the word out. It was evident as to why.
"As you remember in your training, they would not hesitate to cut you down in our world, consider them friendly only towards their own kind. They prey on us, they treat us humans like cattle to farm their Fear and replicate themselves further, as if they are some sort of evolved species. And should you be consumed in this mission, perhaps the extinction of our kind is closer at hand then we could imagine. You might as well already wave goodbye to your so-called friends and loved ones."
Caelius eyed a few of the Hunters still lingering about. "Once your name is keyed in, lie down for a little nap. Apparently it doesn't hurt, or at least the process. Remember what I said and-"
- The Hunter instructor never got to finish his sentence as there was a sharp pain in the back of the few lingering Hunters' heads, apparently Caelius wasn't the only instructor in the room after all, waiting.
Everything else went black.
