The sun was warm, the wind was calm, gusting only every now and again, and there was no sight of rain. Kanic loved these types of days. It meant that he would spend most of the day out looking for something to do. He had left his siblings for a while, mainly cause he wanted to wander out and look for trouble. Kanic was good at finding things he shouldn't get himself into, but he was tough and could handle anything. At least thats what he thought.

He spread his wings, ready to fly down from the rocky ledge of the mountain, but decided that he's walk, since he wasn't that far up the mountain. He hoped to find something interesting on the way down to the base of the mountains.

Mountains were absolutely sublime. Dagny wasn't quite big enough to climb them yet herself, or at least not alone, but she was allowed to venture close and observe them. Mama was some distance away speaking with a stranger, which meant that Dagny and Vrabel were investigating the loose dirt on the path that lead up the mountain. She dearly wanted to climb, but she knew that if she suggested it, Vrabel would say no. Perhaps if she distracted him for a moment or two she could sneak her way down the path...

But no, he was being very persistent in watching her. Sigh.

She swished her tail behind her and testingly put a hoof on the path, expression innocent.

Vrabel looked at her severely. "No."

Ears tipping back, Dagny muttered, "You're no fun in the least." and turned, flinging her wings out to her sides in exaggerated woe. As she did, however, she spied another figure -- someone her age! -- and at once she was filled with all the righteous injustice she felt was appropriate.

"That person is on the mountains!" she exclaimed, neverminding the fact that he was barely up the mountainside. "And he can't be much older than me."

Without waiting for a response, Dagny darted away from Vrabel, fast approaching the other figure. "Hello! What are you doing up there? I am not allowed to approach, but it doesn't seem so very dangerous, does it?"

Kanic watched as the group mingled below. He wondered what they could be up to, and if the young foal really was going to be brave enough to ascend the mountains, even if just a little bit. He was hoping to to be spotted, but knew that wouldn't be the case, with his "eye" fluttering around and all.

Kanic took a keen eye to the young female that was anxiously looking to climb up. he had seen many times the parenst and siblings that were afraid of the mountains, and Kanic liked that. he felt like he was in control, no one felt the mountains were safe, especially for young foals like himself.

As he stood and watched, he knew that she'd not be able to head the warnings. Just as he began to wonder if she would break away, the young foal was racing up to him. "Hi!" Kanic said surprisingly. Then he listened as he heard the uncertainty of her speaking. "Uh duh!" he said to her, "Of course its dangerous up here. Don't you listen to the stories? There is a reason parents tell you to stay away!" He was trying to be tough, and a little scary towards here, mainly to mess with her.

Just then, Kanics "eye" started fluttering around the new arrival to the mountain. Kanic knew that the "eye" usually freaked everyone out.

Well! He didn't have to take that tone! It was decidedly rude. Dagny was taken aback for a moment, and as she wasn't used to regulating her emotions, she actually took a step back. Vrabel was watching her with a keen eye to make certain that the colt didn't try anything untoward, but Dagny was more concerned with the idea that she was being spoken down to. That had certainly never happened before!

"Well, there is no need to be so rude. I'm sure it's perfectly safe if you're careful," she said, tone becoming a bit prissy and huffy as she did.

Her offense was forgotten almost as soon as it was formed, however, as a curious little creature darted out from behind him and into her field of vision. What in the heavens was that? Dagny had never seen anything like it. Curious, she stepped forward, her ears perked and her wings tucked tight to her sides. It looked to be an animal of some kind, but nothing like Vrabel! Why, it was just a floating eyeball!

Far from frightened, she was rather delighted; she leaned forward, joy on her face, and demanded, "What is this? Wherever did you find it? Oh, and what is it called? It looks so interesting. Will it hurt me?"

She probably should have asked the last with a bit more trepidation, but Dagny hadn't really learned to fear much of anything as long as Vrabel was by her side, so she didn't think there was any real danger of something so small causing her any harm.

Kanic could tell immediately that he had made the new acquaintance mad, and while he was concerned about that, his attitude was that she would get over it. After all, he felt like this was his area, and she entered it. Deep down though, he wouldn't let anyone get hurt.

"Hmmmph... Rude? You call that rude? Dat was the warning." Kanic continued on. He felt as if he looked mean and scary enough, so anyone that wanted to approach him was asking for trouble. "You seem a bit....." he started to say. Then he noticed her reaction to his "eye".

"Uh, thats my "eye". It follows me everywhere. My bro and sis both have one as well. I think mom gave them to us when we were young, to watch us.' he said. "Your not scared of it?" he asked. "I mean, yeah... It could hurt ya!" He knew immediately that his last statements had blown a bit of the cover.

{{{ Apparently Kanic can be a rude a**, not something I really anticipated, but the muse was running....}}}

"Whyever should I be afraid of it?" Looking at the colt as though he were slightly spotty in the head, Dagny stomped her hoof on the dirt and shook her head. "It hasn't done anything to me yet, so I don't see a real reason to fear. It has no teeth or claws, and even if it did, unless it went to attack me with them, I'd still have no reason to be afraid."

Her mama had been very particular about the fact that she shouldn't judge creatures on their appearance, and she supposed that extended to little flying creatures, too. Of course, if something was snarling at you that was a warning to back up and go away, and Dagny was nobody's fool. She could run fairly fast, but that didn't mean she wanted to test her hooves against anyone else's! But simply because someone had sharp teeth didn't mean they were going to use them on you. Why, that would imply that just because she had horns she intended to ram someone with them. Ridiculous!

"I think it's curious and a little bit silly, but I don't think it's frightening." She strained to lean forward, stretching her neck as far as she could go, but couldn't quite reach the eye. "And I'm not going to hurt it, so I don't think it should hurt me. I don't know how to speak to it, though. Will you please tell your friend that I mean no harm? I have horns but I promise I only use them... well actually I don't use them at all!"

She wasn't sure what they were for, exactly, if she wasn't supposed to go ramming people with them. She'd speared an apple once, but it was difficult to eat something that was sticking up on the top of your head, so she'd decided that wasn't their use.

Kanic just stared. Not only was she not scared of it, she thought it was silly. He began to wonder why his "eye" was not giving her the creeps, as it usually did to many others. After all, its not something you see everyday. He had hoped it would intimidate her a little, but then her reasoning had made sense.

As the foal leaned forward to get closer to the "eye" it elevated a bit higher, and stayed out of her reach, flying around in any direction to continue the visual.

"He understands everything you say." Kanic replied. "But he don't like to be touched, so he'll stay just outta reach!"
