Karana'Mzaana had been staying in one place for most of the day to conserve energy because she knew with more movement she would grow even more parched. This drought was taking it'd toll on her. She felt tired, weak, and she didn't like the feeling of it. She had told Fia that she felt like her time was coming, but this drought made it feel like the time was too near.

But Mzaa still had one thing she wanted before going to the sun, the stars, wherever she passed to.

But she needed that which she loved.

She looked to the dunes, where she had last seen him travel, he was faster than her, and strange as of late, but she wanted him to know, needed to know his thoughts, and needed to see if he was okay.

Sinbad hadn't been himself for many long months. He had become a reflection of his old self in every aspect. Where once he was crude and uncaring, now he seemed mild and overly-sensitive. Where once anything and everything seemed to roll off his back, now even the smallest of tragedies became unbearable. His sister didn't know what to make of it and few of the other pride members cared to deal with the lion. It was quietly decided on that he was either bewitched or had lost his wit in the desert on patrol. His son, Ali Baba, had quickly taken control of the family as the strong arm of their fallen line.

Watching his huria children depart had nearly broken him. Day by day, he spent his time laying at the boarder, watching the horizonline as if they might return. Regret creased his features and neglect had dulled his coat and thinned his frame.

Perhaps he'd been too hard on them, perhaps he'd expected too much...

She couldn't just wait any longer.

Karana'Mzaana stood and began walking out towards where he had continued. He couldn't have gotten too far, that much she prayed for. She walked slowly, calmly, trying to take simple breathes that would go easy on her heart and body in the heat. She knew there was no water nearby, she wouldn't find any.

She knew she couldn't just wait for him to come back this way, she had waited for her children to return before, and they hadn't, so she couldn't dismiss her hopes here and now.

She saw him then, alone, quiet, staring out towards the roguelands and her heart went to him. Before, she admitted, he seemed brutish, now, he seemed disconnected.

As she got closer, she slowed almost to a stop, calling his name, "Sinbad?"

Once a stone, in body and in character, now the lion seemed jumpy and almost afraid. As his name was called he shuddered and swallowed a cry, his bi-colored eyes shooting a leery look over his shoulder. At the familiar form, he sighed and allowed himself to relax. "Karana... hi."

He looked back outwards, his eyes going distant once more. It didn't seem they'd come back tonight...

"They'd be adults by now..."

"Hi yourself," she said softly with a smile as she came up beside him and sat next to him. She looked to his dual colored eyes and then out to the sands and dunes.

She knew who he was talking about, it pained her too, but he was so quiet, she wanted to hear his voice.

"You think about them a lot lately, don't you?"

"Lately, yes...", He brought a large paw up to rub at the side of his head. He never felt fully there. Parts of his mind drifted, others felt downright numb, like he was incapable of touching on memories or emotions that would drive him to anger or back into his old mannerisms. "They're all going on with their lives. Two of them we may never see again, never know if they're alive or if they found someone for themselves... I worry."

Mzaa blinked, silve eyes sympathetic, knowing what it was like. She missed her children dearly, even those that still dwelled here seemed distant at times. It was confusing and at times, troubling. She furrowed her brows and sat near the red pelted male. His eyes appeared concerned. Face almost forlorn. What had happened to the spitfire, blazed male she knew? Had the children growing old and leaving, gotten to him as well? Or perhaps the heat, the the thirst that came with lack of sufficient water now...

"Do you think future generations would do better here," better than us, her, she wanted to say, but she held her tongue. It was a soft hint, suggestion, but she was not sure how he, in his current appearance, might take such a thin. She wanted to keep it as if shied away from, although it did eat at her mind. She loved her family and wanted to see if grow, and she wanted to see them happen, and the future of the firekin bright.

He settled himself down in the sands and shrugged his broad shoulders. It was a difficult question really. The pride wasn't the one he'd known in his cubhood, it wasn't the pride his father had known or his father before him. The firekin had changed so much in the time he'd been born. An entire way of life had been thrown out and many of the original bloodline scattered to the wind.

"Only time can tell. I'm not a smart lion, I'm not even a wise one. I guess most we can do is hope."

"Hope is all we can have right now," especially when it came to resources. Mzaa had looked up to the sky and hoped that it would open up and rain down upon the dunes so that water would be plentiful and that tenses would become at ease. However, it seemed that that would be no easy task. They were firekin, they were hard, born o sand and fire, lived within it, and had to adapt to what they endured. They would endure, that much she knew. But how much longer Mzaa might, sometimes she worried as her joints ached when moving too much.

All she knew was she wanted to see the future born here, and while peering at Sinbad, she gave him a soft smile, hoping deep in his heart, somewhere, that even if the love and affection she hed for him so deeply, that he felt the same way and they could bring life here once more.

That all of their children would be born, grow and live within the firekin borders, stronger, healthy, and true.

"Perhaps we will see what hope brings us?" Mzaa asked, silver eyes seeking his.

Sinbad shook his head sadly. Hope wasn't a lot unfortunately. Hope led fools to die out in the dunes or to enter into a battle that they couldn't handle. Hope was something that could lead anyone astray. Hope was something that could erode the mind and the wit. It was something that lions clung to long after the dream itself and the ambition along with it had died and turned to dust. Hope was something...lethal, but it was all they had so much of the pride clung to it.

He smiled a little bit and gave a short nod. "Perhaps we will... perhaps not. I suppose we'll find out."

"Yes," she said softly, looking out to the dunes, the sands, and beyond where two of her children wandered, had a home, hopefully, and had lives of their own. However, her own hope dictated and wondered if they would return soon...she wanted to see them again.

"I suppose we'll see together," she said and she leaned on him then, just slightly though, and closed her eyes.

Yes, they'd see together.
