Oh hey, look, another thread in Edrick's Legacy.

This collection of games, which will include the famicom and super famicom versions of the Edrick trilogy will be released in Japan on September 15th, 2011 in honor of Dragon Quest's 25th anniversary.

I haven't gotten my hopes up for a stateside release, though it would be very nice.

But you guys probably know all of that already. I'm going to post any new developments here in this thread as they come.

I have a friend who is a huge anime nut and keeps up to date with Anime News Network. While she isn't a DQ fan herself, she knows I am and sends me any Dragon Quest information that she finds. I was sent this tidbit relatively recently which says two things I didn't know about.

For one thing, the re-release will include an intro done by Kamikaze Douga, the company which did the animations for Dragon Quest IX and Dragon Quest Monsters Battle Road: Victory. And since you know that I adore Dragon Quest IX's scenes, I'm extremely curious to see what the intro will contain as a celebration of the first three games. I don't care if it's just a short montage. I wanna see it.

Secondly, the game will include footage from Dragon Quest X. At that time, a "Things about Dragon Quest X" pre-release thread will most likely pop up. From what I read, it was just "Footage" as opposed to a demo or whatnot. So we'll see how far along in development it is, and if we can get any more fine details other than battle system or the general look.

More things likely to come. Any thoughts, me friends?

I too was looking around, and you covered everything I knew, plus a lot more, seeing as I only knew that it was going to be ported onto the Wii with both the original versions and the SFC remakes, but no doubt that this game is going to be boss with or without a NA release.

Although it would be cool to play the SFC remakes without odd translation bugs and on my very own Wii.

I am very excited about these new animations, funny story being that I once bought the PSX Chrono Trigger way back when it was first made because I heard that they had new animations, so I'll be watching Youtube like a hawk in hopes I find any trace of these.

This demo also seems highly interesting, I'm hoping that if they're able to show footage, that they will be far in development. I heard that it's going to be for Wii, so they might be trying to hurry it before the Wii U is out and about. Let's hope it doesn't end up like an FE5*

*Released so late for its system that it hurt the sales.

Yeah, I know the shpeal about FE5. Last Super Famicom game ever because it was originally released for a gimmick download thing, right? It had a proper release in the late nineties if I'm not mistaken. Hopefully DQX won't be THAT late. Plus, if the Wii U is backwards compatible with Wii games, it won't be hurt nearly as much even if it is really late.

I'm pretty sure that they will only do an intro, but if there is more, I'll be interested all the more. Kamikaze Douga has proven itself for me, and I wonder if they'll be doing things for DQX as well.

I have a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Collector's edition that I got from Nintendo Power a while back, and I'm getting a similar impression from this collection, even though the games this one contains are less spread out over time. The LoZ collection included not only four games from the series, but a short video of the then-new Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, as well as a short little slide show retrospective.

Well, it did get a release, but it was in 2000/late 1999 IIRC, but you are correct about the compatibility, I'm sure the sales will be fine, even so that it's a DQ title.

That's all I was expecting as well, but who knows? I think it would be cool to see DQII's (and I and III of course) ending animated.

On a further note: I am most curious to see what the graphics will end up like, I would love for them to be in the area of DQ VIII/Battle Road, but being on the Wii system, I'm sure they will exceed my expectations. That's what I love about the series: they've always had.

The one for Gamecube, right? Yeah, that makes sense, now that you bring it up, albeit unrelated, I would like to see a retrospective slide show of the DQ seeing as the LoZ one was simply fantastic.

Need a break from all of this DQX business? Let's talk more about DQI-III.

After all, I found some more stuff out about it, as well as the events around it, during my hiatus.

Firstly: Lovely Trailer. Where we can see some of those animated intros and tidbits I mentioned.

And call me a crazy fangirl, but even though it's been about six years since DQVIII came out, I STILL have nostalgia blasts when I see Lamia. And the fact that they are still using the DQVIII design in DQIII, like they did in Battle Road.

It will also have a ton of concept art for viewing pleasure, which interests me personally. I love concept art, and as a budding artist myself, I love looking at the artistic processes of others as well.

Secondly: What I also found out during my hiatus was that there is also one Dragon Quest's first art exhibit being shown in Tokyo, Japan at Luida's Bar, the Dragon Quest themed restaurant, which probably deserves a thread on its own. I had heard legends of this mystical place before. Look at the menu on that site. That there is some delicious looking fandom.

I'm a little late on the mark, but:

Behold, the Intro to DQ 1 2 3!

I love the motifs of tapestries and carvings in here. Makes everything feel suitably legendary.

Oh hey, they have an opening sequence! I thought this was going to just be a direct port with nothing new.

Anyway, this obviously made me fanboy AAAAAAA! seeing as I love the Alefgard trio to no end, and seeing the characters fully animated was fantastic. Favourite part being when macho Midenhall carries his cousins and jumps off the South Dragon Horn Tower with the Wind Cloak to get to the other side of the lake.

What did you think about it? Although I am not sure if anyone shares my love for II as much as me, but in the general run, did you enjoy the opening scene?

Finally, I've decided even if it doesn't get released, I'm still going to import it. It doesn't really bug me that I can't play it, but just to have the box and game in my collection would be great, and would compliment my Famicom DQII perfectly.

I had the same reaction. whee

Like I said, I like the images of the characters in stone carvings and castles and tapestries, combined with the original fanfare with the french horns and all. It makes everything feel legendary, and I think they are a great touch.

Admittedly, though, because of my personal favorites, and while I honor the first and respect the second, the warm fuzzies didn't kick in fully until the DQIII scenes came in. Right when I saw the view of the castle and tower, I knew they had gone over to III (And they also did a great job of recreating these places and events and making them recognizable from their 8/16-bit counterparts).

And as a big DQIII fan, the end of the DQIII part, where we see the recreation of that bit in the intro where Ortega is fighting on the volcano and then it fades to Roto looking determined as they fly off towards Baramos' castle on Lamia... That's so awesome and well put together! I also really liked that shot of Roto running out of his house and waving to his mother as he runs off to Aliahan castle. There was so much in that one shot! With him looking at the picture of Ortega to speeding off on his journey and waving to his mother and going to the castle and the people looking at him... It was so cool! WOO FANDOM! heart

And you are importing it? Good for you! Tell me about the costs and I might shell out for it myself for collector's purposes. Though I am getting an imported DQ something for my birthday in a few days, but that's aside the point whee .
That reminds me, I don't know if you clicked on it from the referred video section of my youtube link, but there is a video of someone unboxing a copy of the 25th anniversary edition if you are interested. Take a peak!

This is both cool and cruel. Cool: This looks amazing and I jump out of my seat. Cruel: I don't think it will come out in the USA.

Curse you, reigonal popularity! Curse you!

If only we did not share common blood, then the world would be that much brighter.

...

Yeah, this ought to make for fun interactions.

Hey! More 25th Anniversary news! And this isn't just for fans of the first three! This something a lot of you might enjoy!

I came across this video on Youtube, and I thought I should share it with fellow fans, because this is pretty neat.

So behold, KidShoryuken's Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary Experience!
We get to take a peak at the Dragon Quest art expo in Roppongi Hills, Tokyo that I had mentioned before. He gets to record quite a bit, but there were also many things he could not record. I wish I was able to go...
