User ImageThey had a home. They had a home! They had a HOME.

No, no matter how many times she said it, or in how many different ways, it still seemed too weird to be true.

Heyoka had never had a home. Well, maybe she had when she was very small, before...well, before Tisiphone found her. But she didn't remember those days very well. All her memories from her young childhood were half-formed stormy images of pain and slaughter and she avoided them like deep craters opened up in her mind. So all she really knew about, all she had experienced, was a life of wandering with the other three war-painted wolves in her band, stopping off to try on new packs like a hermit crab tries on a shell.

And that had been enough, for her.

But she understood that it wasn't enough for others, and while she often found herself getting in trouble (and causing it) she didn't want to intentionally hurt her life-long friends. Not even Zanza'jinn, although sometimes she kind of wanted to toss him in front of a stampeding herd of elk. But that was out of love, really.

So she would stay, and be as good as she could.

Still, she has the idea that maybe a few pack members might be a little mad at her about the bear situation -- how was she supposed to have known better?! -- and so she'd given them a wide berth. Now, the grey female was taking a long, circuitous route through the territory, exploring the peak thoughtfully, if a bit boredly.

Maybe she'd jump off the highest rock. That could liven things up a bit...

He had been following her for hours as she explored, not quite stalking her, because that sounded a little bit creeper-ish. No, he was perfecting his skills of silence, always trying to be better. But if he didn't want to lie....he was stalking her, just like he had Ehrek, and many others. It was a favorite pass-time of his, and it usually kept them fed every hunt.

"So, you like to explore?" he suddenly asked, from a distance, hidden behind some ferns so bright they matched the green of the fur on his head. He moved almost immediately, changing positions around her, so that he was never in the same place for very long. But he was curious, after watching her travel the packlands all afternoon.

"I'm not used to staying in one place," she replied, a little startled at his sudden appearance. He was good! She wasn't an easy wolf to sneak up on, generally. But then, that was always the way of it. You could never notice the one thing you were actually looking for.

Not that she'd specifically been looking for Phrixos, but she was glad to see him, as he had intrigued her at their first meeting. Not as much as the shaman had, perhaps...but she had been rather intrigued by his coloration, which was oddly similar to her own (albeit not painted on...she didn't think). She couldn't help it: she had a rather inordinate fondness of green.

"How long have you been following me for?"

Stepping from the ferns, he cocked his head as he pondered, wiggling his ears. "Oh, well....I guess all day now that I think about it." Blinking as he said it, he scrunched his nose as a thought hit him. "That isn't creepy is it?"

Now that he really thought about it, Phrixos was fairly certain Ehrek had found it a bit creepy at first as well. The green splashed wolf pondered reconsidering his favorite pass time.

But currently, all he wanted to do was get to know this new wolf, she who had been willing to fight an enraged bear without so much as a twitch of an ear. He wanted to know if she was overly brave, or simply psycho. Although if he were to be entirely truthful, he couldn't help but view her colors as anything but appealing to his bi-colored eyes.

Her brow raised, head tilting. Her ear flopped to the side, as it often did, as a sly grin crept up the corner of her maw. "All day?" She asked, surveying him thoughtfully. She liked his mohawk. "You have something better to do, surely?"

Or was he tailing her for fear that she was doing something wrong? That seemed more likely. He was probably a spy, looking for an excuse to boot her from the pack.

Her eyes narrowed with sudden suspicion. If he was looking for her doing something wrong, she'd give him something to look at.

He was about to answer her question when he noticed the cogs of thought turning behind her eyes, which sharpened in suspicion. Wary of what she might be thinking, the mohawked male tip-toed through his next words.

"Following is my thing. I like to be the most quiet thing in the forest. You seemed...perceptive, and very keen. I felt it an acceptable challenge to stalk you."

He tried to sound innocent about it, but the more he talked, the worse his intentions sounded. He truly did sound creepy by the end, and he hung his head in failure.

Why did he always blunder with females? First May, than his daughter, now Heyoka. And the painted wolf hardly knew him!

"Well, it was a pretty shitty challenge," she said, shrugging, the skeptical look still in her eyes. "Seeing as I didn't even notice until you came out. Guess you win. For now."

Well, that wouldn't do, at all. And now he was looking sad. Maybe because he'd realized how boring of a challenge it had turned out to be. Heyoka hated challenges that turned out to be boring. "What was your name, anyway?"

"That was the point," he grumbled, pawing at the ground. When she asked his name, he felt that maybe this encounter wasn't completely shot after all.

"Phrixos," he said a little proudly, for it was a strong name that his parents had deliberated many days on. "My father is Kiion. He was the one that healed the bear."

She tilted her head quizzically, not fully understanding what the point was of a challenge that could be so easily won. Heyoka preferred her challenges difficult, arguably impossible. Otherwise, it wasn't really a challenge.

"Oh. OH!" Well, that got her attention. Her head snapped up and she looked at him eagerly. "He had lightning in his paws. It was awesome."
