Danny had been excited to finally go running for the first time at Amity. For the open house and the first couple of days she hadn't been able to run because she was so busy setting her dorm up and what not. Finally, finally she was able to bolt through the confines. She had begun by running around the demon dorms, but there wasn't really much to do. So instead, she had crossed around the back of the reaper dorms and headed towards the monster dorms to cause some ruckus.
After all, mischief was her middle name. Well no, her middle name was Dean, but if she could pick, it would be mischief! By now, Danny was a little worn out from her jog, and was content to just sneak around the monster dorms- very sneakily.
That is, if sneaky meant a girl with bright orange hair and a flame on her tail was running through the dorms giggling to herself.
In fact, on the way through one of the halls, she knocked over someone's belongings that were sitting in the hall. Luckily, no one saw it was her, but it still made Danny a bit more cautious, for about five seconds until she broke out into a run again.
Danny had finally slowed to a halt, no longer running around, but peeking around corners like she was some sort of secret agent. What was around this corner? Secret monster party? A minipet horde?

Calder had been busy packing. While he could leave things in his dorm over the summer, he had to get a lot cleaned, sort through old homework to trash or keep, not to mention scrubbing a few things that had been lovely with fungus until they grew to the point of trying to eat his leeches. Once he had done that, sorted all his books neatly on their shelves, cleaned out his dresser and various baskets, and threw some various food items that he must have forgotten about to the point he couldn't tell what it was, he had only one major thing left to do. With everything nicely cleaned and packed, he drained the pond in his room, pulling the seal on the bottom, and also tipped over his bath tub to drain that water too. He would sleep in it empty for the next week or so before going home. While he liked the murky green of algae, it would turn more into a heavy slime if he left water in his tub all summer.
While the water drained away and he finished cleaning his bath tub, he finally decided to take a much deserved shower. It was one of those strange miracles of modern design that Amityville had and while he barely took many showers, much preferring a dip in the nearby rivers, it was much too late and he was far too tired to go that far.
After many Oh's and Aw's over things like shower curtains and Hot and Cold knobs, Calder took a long shower and walked out of the showers with a heavy breath. It was so delightfully COLD in there! He had wanted to stay in the frigid water for hours. Walking out, he looked for his towel and started to work on trying to tie it around his waist. It was in this process, hair long and dripping wet, that he looked up as he felt eyes upon him.
Surprised, he looked up. "Uh...................hello?"

Just when Danny thought she was the sneakiest ghoul in the world, she was caught by a voice. Danny froze for a moment, not sure how to respond, but then turned around slowly. She stood awkwardly in the middle of the hall, about 10 feet away from a dripping wet pony boil. In any other situation, Danny would've wanted to shout "PONY" and go pet his ears, but it definitely was not the time.
Scratching the back of her head, Danny smiled anxiously and said, "Uhh ... h-hi there." It was then that she noticed that the boil wasn't just naturally flat looking, but he was dripping wet (Danny was a tad ... slow when it came to observations).
Instantly, she backed up and said, "D-DON'T COME ANY CLOSER. STAY BACK." She was positively shaking and her tail had wrapped itself around her leg, like it was afraid of the boil too.
Oh Jack whyyyyy she screamed internally, Jack why did you have to kill me this way? Couldn't I have lived a nice long life first? Danny backed up until her legs hit the wall. "Please s-stay away from me, I don't want to hurt you. If I offended you I'm soooo so sorry. I'll pay you anything just please stay away from meeeee," she babbled. If Danny could break down into tears, she would.

Okay, this was not something he expected. First off, the only time anyone freaked out when he took a shower was 1.) When he first learned there was a boils and ghouls bathroom and 2.) When he then learned that you had to wear a towel after you took a shower. Seeing as he had went to the boils bathroom to take a shower and, checking himself, had a towel about his waist, he had no idea why this ghoul was freaking out. Sure, he might be a tad impressive looking, and he certainly did think he might be a bit of a intimidating monster, but usually people have very reverse reactions to him. Most of the time, someone wondered what a ghoul was walking around shirtless for or how anything as pretty as him could even be living. Scaring someone this quickly was a first!
He rather liked it.
Then she said she'd hurt him.
His ears twitched at that.
"Um...I haven't even met you before. I don't think. You never offended me." He rose his hands slowly, skin dripping as a puddle started to form around his hooves. "How about you just calm down? I'm not going to hurt you, and I'm not going to fight you with just a towel on. I just got clean." Getting sweaty again would mean he'd have to go and take another shower. Wait. That wasn't so bad. ".......though another shower might be nice."

Danny saw the ear twitch and her desire to pet his hair grew even more, but she knew better than that. The boy was covered in ... in death. As much as Danny loved petting fluffy things, this was too much.
But his wittle eeeeears ...
No Danny! Resist! she thought. She stared horrified at the ring of water forming around his feet now. It was so... soo ... Danny had always been taught to stay away from water, no matter what.
Danny let out a sigh of relief when he said he didn't want to hurt her. At least he wasn't hostile. That would be bad.
BUT WAIT. He wanted to take another shower? Did that mean he'd already taken one? Wait ... He couldn't mean... "Did you just ... cover yourself in water?" She stared with big, expectant eyes. Danny couldn't even imagine what it was like to taste water, let alone shower with it. Back where she came from, everyone showered in lava, like they were supposed to.
Then again, ever since she came to Amity, things had turned upside down. She wasn't sure why, but she felt ... she felt ...
Like everyone here was completely bonkers.

This ghoul seemed.........a tad crazy. Now he wasn't sure if it was because she was still on edge around him or if it was because of her question, but he thought maybe it had to do a bit with natural instinct to. Like knowing which animal was the most sick and which one you should nibble on instead.
This was one of those fishes he would throw back.
Looking down, he checked his skin and then the puddle and then looked back up at her. "I certainly hope it was water." He lifted a arm and breathed it in. "Yup. It's water." He dropped his hand and continued to look at her. "Why? Do I smell?" He hoped not.

Danny stared at Calder, horrified. "H-how did you .... how are you n-not ..." she stammered. Danny had no clue what to say. He tail sagged under her legs like she was a cornered dog.
"How are you not dead?!" she exclaimed, finally being able to connect her feelings to her words. Danny still watched the water suspiciously. She wasn't about to let it out of her sight for one second. She was waiting just in case it decided to leap at her ... or something.
How did water even work? As far as Danny knew it was a substance that could kill her, and that was about as much as she could remember.
To answer his question though, Danny said, "You don't smell ... i-it's just ... w-water ... how?" She was absolutely baffled by this new installment. Were there actually students who liked water?!
No. Just no. Not possible.

Calder looked to the puddle at his hooves and back up at the ghoul. "It's just water. It's not acid. Water can't kill ya."
He paused a moment.
"Okay it can, but that's unless you stay under for too long and have someone like me keeping you there." Calder took a lock of his hair that was still dripping to show her.
"See. Water." He popped the hair into his mouth, sucking a bit of the water off, before pulling his hair out. "Its like rain or fog or anything else. It's nice." He thought this was a rather ridiculous conversation to have having, and he moved closer. "Do you not take a bath or go swimming??"

Water can't kill ya.
That's it, this boil was either completely insane or absolutely demented. Water couldn't kill you? HA. Danny wasn't about to fall for that one. She was waaaay smarter than him (definitely) and she was outwitting him as he spoke!
"Are you some kind of stupid! Of course water can kill y-" she began, but was cut off as he began to explain ways you could be killed through water. That was more like it. He only mentioned if you stayed under too long though. Didn't he know that it could do things other than kill you? Like put you in a two week long como?!
Danny was absolutely horrified with what he did next though. He put it in his mouth and drank it. Danny reached out to stop him, but it was too late. The deed was done. She cringed, waiting for him to collapse or something, but no such thing occured.
Rain and fog being nice? This boil was making NO SENSE. Danny's brain was beginning to malfunction. She couldn't take much more of this crazy talk.
Then Calder hit the nail even harder of course. He began moving towards her. Immediately formed two fireballs in her hand and screeched, "YOU SAID YOU WEREN'T GOING TO HURT ME. STAY BACK JACKDAMMIT." Someone was probably going to notice the fire demon in the monster dorms now, but she didn't care- the water thing from hell in front of her was more important. She was panting now from the pure terror of it all. While she wanted to sound intimidating and scary, her eyes were flung wide open in terror.
He began asking more weird questions too. With fear shaking in her voice, she said, "Wh-what do you mean?! Of course I t-take baths! Swimming too!"
What. The. Hell.

Fire. Fire was not a kelpie's friend. Being more of the water variety, fire wasn't something he wanted to feel. True, he did like giant bonfires during festivals and didn't get as terrified as an undead when around it, but that didn't mean he wanted to be grilled either.
His hands went up again as he stopped and slowly backed away. "Whoooaa there, lassy. I'm not going to kill ya. I'm not armed with anything and really, this water isn't going to kill you. Can't imagine why a fire ghoul like you would get terrified over a few drops. You're not going to melt. Your not made of sugar." She certainly wasn't sweet.
"If you can swim and take a bath, why would be you afraid of water? It didn't kill you then."

Danny stared at him with eyes that said, "yeah, you better back down!"
This boil was way too confusing. First he was walking towards her, ready to smother her in water, next he was backing up and apologizing claiming he was friendly. Did he have a split personality or something?
Calder was greeted back with two very confused eyes. "You are armed, and it can kill!," she explained very slowly. Perhaps he didn't have a split personality- maybe he just wasn't that bright. Obviously water could kill people. Wasn't that just common sense?
No matter how many times Calder said, "it won't kill you," Danny was just too stubborn to believe. Regardless, Danny was getting a bit tired of arguing back and forth like this. In frustration, she flopped down onto the ground and leaned against the wall, carefully aligning her tail so as to not burn the building down.
"Look mister, I don't get it," she elaborated very clearly, "One second you're like RAWRRRR coming to GET YOU! And then next you're all like NO WAY! I'm so nice! I won't hurt you at all~!" She gestured with each exaggerated impression she made and then crossed her arms. "So which is it? Are you trying to hurt me or not. Are you scary. or. not." She threw her hands up in frustration from her own thoughts.
Sighing, she slowly said, You don't swim and take baths in water, that's just stupid. Your tail would go out and you would die." Gosh this boil was just about the slowest thing on the face of Halloween.

Calder looked at her for a good long time, and then at her tail, and then back at her. "I live in the water. I'm a kelpie. I was born in water. I live in water. I even have a bathtub in my room to sleep in. I couldn't live without it." There. He hoped that explained a few things.
Reaching back, he lifted up his tail to show it was nothing more than hair. "I don't have a fire tail either. No flames. I guess that's why you're worried. Can't you just keep your tail out of the tub and take a bath? Water is really lovely and it's just crazy that you never got to soak in a nice lake or pond or even take a refreshing bath." He regarded her with a creased brow of both worry and pity. "Such a poor thing. Missing out on all of that. It's one of the most enjoyable experiences in all the world."
Even talking about water made him want to take another shower or even a long swim. "To your other question. I'm a monster. I'm scary and nice. I'm not going to kill you, but I'll try not to drip on your tail. I just like being wet. It's good for me. It's not good for me to be away from water for too long. I could get sick."
He then looked at her once more. "Have you tried dipping your hand in water? It's not made of fire and it won't mess with your tail flame. Even a finger would work to test it out. Here." Calder squeezed some of the water from his hair into a palm and held it out. "If you touch it, you can prove it's not going to hurt you. Water is great. It's cool, refreshing, and nice."

Danny tried to wrap her mind around the concept that some people had to have water. That was like saying you had to covering yourself in arsenic each morning to feel good.
The tail thing, that was a bit more complicated though. Danny had never really imagined that other people didn't have the same body schematics as her. Glancing down at her own tail, she moved it back and forth, and looked back at Calder's. It really wasn't the same.
Still, it seemed like Calder had good intentions. Danny was too gullible to think otherwise anyways. She gasped and said, "You can get sick without it?" This boil was currently turning everything Danny had ever been taught on it's head.
She took a moment to breathe in and out. "So ... it ... well it won't ... it won't hurt me?" Danny was ready to believe Calder now, but she was still incredibly hesitant. She didn't want to touch it. She didn't want to touch it! She squealed a little and stuck out a finger. "Quick quick quick do it really really fast EEEEEEE," she squeezed her eyes shut so she didn't have to look at it.

And Danny was rewarded with a wet fingertip. It didn't seem to burn or sizzle or melt off her skin. It was just cool water and barely enough to really drip. Calder continued to hold out his hand, cupping the pool of water he created and watched her. "See? Just water. Unless your some weird witch, it's not going to hurt you at all. It also taste good. Well, it doesn't take much of anything, but it's refreshing!" THen again, maybe touching water and consuming water was a leap. "Well, unless you're stomach doesn't have a fire in it keeping you alive. What....are you anyways?" She had a tail. with fire at the tip and that left him with NO clues as to what she was.

As soon as the water drop touched her skin, Danny let out a very audible squeal that even Barth would've been woken up by. It was a loud shriek like something from a banshee, though not quite as paralytic.
All at once though, she stopped squealing and looked at her finger. It didn't hurt at all. In fact, there had really been no reason to squeal at all- her skin wasn't melting off, she wasn't fainting nor dying. It was just too weird- her mummy had always told her that water was the worst thing ever (in more eloquent words of course), and now here was this boil saying "oh, by the way, it's fine." What was this world coming to?
Immediately distracted by the boil's question, she said, "I'm a fire demon named Danny. What are you?" It was blunt and to the point enough.
The comment about the fire in her tummy made her think though. Danny had never really thought about what was inside her. She knew she had some bones. There was a tongue too, since she could see it from the outside (quite well too. Had it been the appropriate situation, Danny would've gladly told anyone that she could touch her tongue to her nose). She knew she had blood too, because when she fell down it came out. A fire in her stomach though? Danny tugged on the tip of her hair and said, "I don't really know what's inside me though. I think there's a fire, but I'm not really sure."
