Canicus stretched and rolled over onto his back, breathing deeply and letting his muscles relax as he lay on the cool floor of his den. He knew the coolness of it would not last, and that it must have been very early morning if it felt that way in the first place. Sighing he rolled to his paws and stretched out his limbs, moving himself to the exit. His gaze floated toward the sky and he nodded to himself. The fiery orb was just beginning to peak over the horizon; the day was just beginning.
Today he thought he might go hunting, try to bring down something big. The desert was a hard place, one that made the firekin stronger and prouder than all other lions... but it could also be a heartless land. With the worries of the drought stretching out longer many firekin were becoming uneasy. Canicus was as well, and he hoped soon that the higher ups would make a decision. His tail flicked as he gazed around, trying to see who was beginning to stir from their dens. He didn't often seek out the comfort of another's presence, but this morning it seemed like the right thing to do.

White tipped paws padded with an easy grace over the shifting sands of the Firekin's land, carrying a dark pelted lioness back from her pre-dawn wandering of the more deserted parts of the territory. The sun was an enemy to one as dark as she, but one she had fought all her life and learned a trick or two from. The darkness of night was bitterly cold, the light of day searing hot, but the space of time between the two extremes was the best opportunity to be out and about, searching out food and what little water remained to the pride.
Morag licked her chops clean of the rusty stain that coated them, but her stomach still grumbled at the poor fare she had found in the sands. Head down, stride loose, she made her way through the den-site, seeking something she didn't know what to call. Companionship? Romance? A fight? She merely felt restless, knowing that all too soon she would need to rest in the relative coolness of a cave through the worst of the day's heat.

The big male sighed deeply, gaze shifting for a moment to some of the furthest dunes out. He had news that his father was no where to be found, disappeared. Just like his mother had so long ago. His tail flicked back and forth and he wondered if he was just fated to have those who cared walk out of his life, though the scenario did not seem to bother him too much. So many lions seemed to grow attached to others and then feel very badly when their lives took different paths. This was not Canicus' way, he simply believed they would come back into his life or they would not.
His blue eyes swept back over the dens, he was much closer now, and then over a dark coated lioness. He shifted the direction, heading for the lioness now instead of the dens. "Morag, greetings." He called. It was best to show respect and be polite to other lions, even if you didn't know them very well. No, more so if they were just acquaintances to you.

Morag's head lifted as a masculine voice called her name, red eyes squinting through the dawn light at the red form. Not much surprise there, considering the pride's disposition towards red, black and white... even less of a surprise, and a touch of disapointment, that it was someone related to her.
"Canicus." She said softly in her dark voice, rough from lack of water and the harsh winds she breathed. "You're up early, aren't you? Out to find food? I can tell you that unless you are VERY lucky, there isn't much to be had..."
The dark lioness pulled to a stop and set her paws squarely beneath her, unconsciously setting her body to emphasize her muscular physique, her hunter's body. Some males might prefer their females lithe and lean, but stocky, solid Morag cared little for those kinds of males. Set chest to chest with her and they'd have a time of it in a duel, for sure.
A sudden grin spread over her muzzle, and despite the growing heat she grew restless. "Or are you looking for something fun to do?"

He smirked a little, ears perking. "Well then, I will save myself the disappointment and hold off on hunting." It seemed Morag had guessed spot on, but it didn't Matter. Canicus could hold off on hunting for another day or two, he knew game had been sparser than usual. Hell, they lived in a desert... game was sparse even when it was 'teeming' with life. Still, the firekin had adapted to this way of life. They were strong and proud, Canicus took comfort in the fact that they lived this way. Why live an easy, soft, green life of a rogue? Despicable lions they were... "Lucks never been much on my side anyhow." He smiled, one of his many attempts at humor that usually only he found funny.
His tail flicked as he sat himself slowly next to the female, gaze shifting over her form once. She was what he liked to consider a proper firekin lady, a female that could hold her own in a duel. A female you didn't want on your bad side, for sure. "Something fun?" He asked slowly, head tilting as his blue eyes met her red. "What sort of fun? I'm interested." His words were slow though, careful. He was not a reckless lion, so it really did depend on what words would be coming from her maw next.

The dark lioness grinned as she dropped into a crouch, circling out to the side as she watched the male with bright, narrowed eyes.
"Spar with me. Winner catches the looser a meal." She laughed, her tail lashing behind her.
Excitement coursed through her at the thought of getting in some rough housing, at working off some energy that still plagued her after her less-than-stellar hunting trip. Granted, she wasn't a soldier... she hadn't been trained to fight, but then neither had he, really. Not beyond the regular stuff one was taught in the regular course of events. He was a hunter too, so they should more or less be on even ground. And... it would just be fun as her first informal duel, so to speak. She'd never actually gone for the duels, so hadn't gotten to experience what one was like. Maybe she'd have to change that, if this went well.
"Or if you're worried about being roughed up by a girl, we could go see what trouble we could scare up around the den site. This time of day, we could probably catch someone sleeping."(( lawl, i don't remember what I had planned for her to suggest, so have a sparing match. xD ))
