((This is a backdated RP!))

One festival gone and nothing new in line, his feet hauled him back to wandering, hopping from one house to another and motels in between. Contacts kept him alive and under a safe roof: friends of friends, someone's aunt, house-sitting for two dogs, buying the booze to cheerfully reminisce about an adventure three years past.

Fresh off the bus, Warwick had a lot of luggage. He understood, in theory, the importance of traveling light, but -- he also knew that there were certain essentials needed in order to stay alive, certain things he couldn't leave behind. His life, everything he owned, was wrapped up in a backpack, a rolling suitcase, and one of the biggest duffel bags in existence.

He dropped all of them on Able-May's stoop as he stood to ring the doorbell, fidgeting and cold on her stoop, not wearing nearly enough layers for the still-chill edge of winter-turning-toward-spring.

It'd been mentioned months ago that a friend of a friend of a friend's brother was moving to Destiny City and would be needing a place to stay. So as the doorbell rang Able-May was well prepared. She'd been spending the day fidgeting and nervously checking with her assistant that the maid had gotten everything cleaned and was she positive the spare bedroom was ready.

Moving gracefully and mentally talking herself into a calm she opened the door and any other thoughts were gone. He was obvious cold and needed to get inside and oh-- He had some amazing ink work on him. "Oh hell, you've got to be Warwick. Get inside quickly before you catch your death." Opening her door wide and ushering him in she bent and snagged his baggage before he could do so himself. Closing the door behind them both she shook her head at him with a smile.

"Didn't anyone warn you what the weather would be? Goodness." Gently plopping his stuff down in the middle of the foyer she held out a hand. "Able-May, nice ink you've got."

Ink was Warwick's selling point; Ink was why he was even there, really. If it hadn't been for a long conversation about tattoos over a generous pint, talking about prices and places and a friend-of-a-friend, he'd likely be stranded in Destiny city now with nothing to do and nowhere to go until spring broke fully. It was rough, when it was too cold to work, when he was trapped inside, when there were no people in the park...

He didn't think about it. Warwick's nature was that he didn't think about these things. Instead he just thrust his hand out to take hers, beaming hugely, easygoing and friendly and comfortable as he took in the unfamiliar room around him. Maybe he should have been worried about living with a stranger, but he didn't think about that either.

"Nice of you to do this." he could be polite, at least, smiling and shrugging. "I, uh. I don't know the area so great. Good to have someone who does..."

"Well, when your family owns a limo company in town you tend to know the area." Not that she'd ever had anything to do with that business, but information leaked through at dinner. She shook his hand and then let them drop. Gesturing to a couch or chair or the kitchen, she waited for him to make a choice while she listed his options. "If you're hungry, I can make you something to eat or we can scrounge, your room is this one directly to the right of where you came in and it has a small private bathroom. Or you can sit and catch your breath and tell me what you're doing in Destiny City."

She'd been told a little of what was going on, of course, but it was always fascinating to hear the story straight from the source. It was part of the reason she loved being a tattoo artist as much as she did. Getting to talk to the people. Placing her hands across her chest idly she watched him curiously. It had also never once crossed her mind that opening her home to a stranger was a bad idea, and all she could think was that thus far this was going to work absolutely brilliantly.

So, so many bags. The backpack he could manage, settled low on his spine, and the rolling bag was easy enough -- he nudged it forward gently, struggling not to scuff or scratch her floors, not to leave any marks in his wake. When people were doing you a favor, Warwick thought, it was wisest to make yourself as small as possible. Reese had taught him that part, one of many lessons Reese had known rather well, but this one had stuck with him.

The duffle bag was more of an issue. It weighed far too much, had taken up more than its fair share on the bus, and for the time being he left it on the doorstep, trusting the area. No one here would bother stealing it. It looked almost as old as Warwick.

"...ah. Uh. Well. Performing I guess." He grinned at her with that, swiping fingers up through faded blue hair. He needed to revamp, pick something new. Something brighter. "As long as the weather's okay. I don't know what you want me to put the stuff..."

"Just leave it anywhere, dude." Able-May answered with a bright grin. "There's a housecleaner my mother sends over daily, I'll just leave a note letting them know where to put your stuff." She eyed the door as it closed behind him and made a mental note to help him get it indoors before nightfall.

She turned on a heel and practically threw herself into an arm chair. "Performing?" Cocking her head to the side she gave a puzzled look. "OH. That's right, someone mentioned that- Street stuff, right?"

" 'Street stuff' sounds pretty wrong." He grinned at her, though, relaxing as he dropped his things by the door and took just a moment to kick off his shoes, smoothing a hand over the spiky mess of his hair. The way his eyes took her place in -- every detail, perking a bit at the idea of a housecleaner -- seemed to give the impression that this wasn't his usual fare.

Up about ten bars on the ladder, actually.

"Like, uh, like tricks or something. Well, I mean, I guess it is tricks, but a different kind..." He cleared his throat and forced himself to focus on Able-May instead. "...acrobatics, I mean."

Teal eyes widened in horror and then she lost it laughing. Taking a breath, she placed her hand near her throat and shook her head. "Oh goodness! That is not what I meant to imply at all!" Wiping a tear from her eye, she rubbed her face with the same hand. "I'm so sorry." Chuckling out the last bit of laughter she couldn't hide Able-May beamed at Warwick. "I was told you mostly stuck to acrobatics and stuff. I once saw someone in London do the same with hoops and props, is that your style?"

She realised it seemed pretty nosy, but the nature of why he was in DC and just the idea of being a street performer interested the woman so much she just couldn't make herself care. "Oh, yeah, hey. Do you want anything to drink?"

At least her laughter made him smile and relax, by notches, instead of tense up. It sapped away his uncertainty. He knew who he was when she was laughing. Leaning a hip against a chair, he allowed his eyes to wander for another moment before resettling on her face.

"I. Uh. I could go for a beer or something, maybe?" If she headed for the kitchen, he was going to trail her, curious more than anything else. This place was huge. "...I thought you, uhm. I thought you had a tattoo place?"

It wasn't noticeable but Able-May relaxed in measures as soon as her new roommate smiled back. She loved making people smile but she'd been told her sense of humor was off or wrong. So it was always a measure of how well someone could tolerate her if they were at ease with her jokes.

Nodding as soon as he requested the beer she showed him the way and held the fridge open for him in invitation. "I'm pretty well stocked in pale ales and some amber stuff. Or I have canned stuff in the cupboard." Pausing at his question she fidgeted a little, always uncomfortable about talk of money, but she understood where his question was coming from.

"I do," she answered him. "But I come from money or something as well. My mother insists that if I'm going to concentrate on my art and charity then there's nothing wrong with her making sure I have a comfortable place to live."

A shrug was his only response to her options. Despite the definite accent that still laced his words, the faded but distinctively Australian cut of his vowels and the dropped 'r's, it appeared Warwick didn't really have much of a preference when it came to beer. There was no snobbery, here. No worry about Fosters, or whatever the ads seemed to imply.

"I, uh. I was expecting...I dunno. Apartment over the parlor. Little house out back, something." A pause, and then he smiled again, hands shoved down into his pockets. "Not that I mind, of course."

At his shrug, she simply grabbed two bottles and used a ring to open them. Handing one over she leaned against her counter and nodded. "Trust me, I'd be more comfortable in something over my parlor... " But sometimes it just wasn't worth arguing with her mother. "At least with a bigger space there's less clutter?"

Able-May could certainly live with less clutter.

"So, what do you think of what you've seen of Destiny City so far?"

He made a little face at that, still hovering in the doorway, leaning and slouching, turning the bottle between two hands. Warwick knew enough about himself, at least, to be aware that sitting down would be a bad plan. Sitting down would leave him itching to move worse than just about anything else, especially after the ride in.

"Uh. The bus windows are dirty." His eyes were still smiling, amused, even if his expression had gone more forcibly serious around them. "The subway's not bad, though I've definitely seen, you know, better. Seems like a lotta closures?"

Probably due to youma, due to wanting to keep an eye on trouble down there. Warwick didn't know enough, yet, to be aware of that. He shrugged, one corner of his mouth quirking up a bit. "That's about all I got to see."
PostPosted: Wed Nov 16, 2011 6:34 pm

Laughing again at the face he made she lifted herself up onto the counter-top, being careful of the bottle in her hand. She didn't blame him at all it wasn't like she'd expected his ride in to be on a tour bus. If Destiny City even had tours at all. Not that it was a bad idea...

Nodding at his assessment of the subway, Able-May had to take his word for it. She did all she could to avoid situations in which she'd meet anything of the eight-legged variety. That resulted in her pretty much staying in a five block radius of her home and the parlor, so she hadn't known about the closures at all. Surprise registering itself on her face, she shook her head sadly.

"Destiny City has it's fair share of," what should she call it? "It's fair share of bizarre crime." She knew that wasn't very clear or helpful at all, but it was the best she could do without launching into a story that sounded like it came straight out of a Japanese cartoon.

"I heard some stories." He finally brought the bottle up to his mouth, taking a double sized swallow and not-really-thinking about everything that went unsaid in that statement. There would be time later for talk about monsters and terrorists and whatever else might be out or the prowl. For now, he shrugged and straightened out of the doorframe, smiling at her again.

"You tell me what I should go see, and I'll, uh." He waved back toward the front door, his baggage. "I'll put that away and go do it."
