You know there's a saying I once heard.

It goes, "If you want your friends to stay friends, never talk to them about religion or politics."

This topic is for those who heard this and said, "******** it."

Please avoid flaming. We are all entitled to own beliefs and opinions, but if your idea of an opinion is shiting on everyone then its the banhammer for you...a*****e.

So I had a thought. What if there is no heaven or hell? Try to stay with me. This isn't an atheist or agnostic opinion I'm trying to toss here.

Then that'd leave either earth, limbo, reincarnation, nothing or something no one expects. I currently think it's most likely nothing <.<

well, since we're saying ******** it, I'd still like everyone to know, anything I say is not to be taken personally.

I'm a hardcore Atheist and a devout Lib Dem...

I'm Atheist for many reasons. In all my years, I have seen no substantial evidence to prove there is a god, and all arguments made that there is one, can be destroyed with the mentality of a 5 year old. The whole concept is dumb to me. I do recognize man kind's need to pass blame and make sure everything is alright, and I feel religion fills that role for some, but it doesnt make it true.

I'm Lib Dem because I'm a very open minded person. I feel we should have open and free rights to just about anything, be it abortion, illegal substances, or whatever. Though I feel many things should be regulated by the government, not all aspects of life need be ruled. Fund out healthcare, schools, and civil services, and that's fine. Help guide our economy, but dont run it. Let us run our lives. Socialism is pretty good way to go in my opinion.

feel free to comment and judge as you see fit...

I believe there is niether heaven, nor hell...and in doing so, It makes me feel stronger when I do the right thing, and worse when I do something bad.

Without Heaven, I have no motivation to constantly act good...but I do anyway, and I feel like it shows a great deal about my character. Same with Hell. When I do something bad, I did something bad even though there is no long term consequence...and I feel like rubbish when I do.

What if its, "anywhere you want"?

All I'm saying is why does it have to be one way or another? As humans we all have a sense of justice we are all born with. When the scale is tipped thats when we feel discomfort from the possiblity of unjustice in our lives. That brings us to come this kind of conclusion that "if you are good then you go to the good place, but if you are bad then you go to the bad place." We get justice in the comfort that the good are rewarded and the bad are still punished. But good and evil are all determined by culture, and changes with setting and time. And thats just on Earth. We've already discovered that there all several billions of galaxies in the universe, and thats just what we've been able to see so far. Every ten or so years a more advanced telescope is made and we find that there's several times more space than the last telescope saw, so who knows how really big this plane of existence is. That being said, calaculating the odds of infinite space there must be other forms of life elsewhere in the universe. What about their religion? What about their culture, or definition of good and evil?

So that leads me to throw out notions of just two places that are heaven and hell. But even so I still believe in other crazier things like ghosts so there must be some kind of afterlife. So then where do we go? The idea of "anywhere we want" seems to make more sense to me, in this day and age. You can hang around earth, you could go into some other unknown part of the universe, s**t I always imagined being dead as being stuck in a sort of dream-like sensation so maybe you can just imagine your own place and go there? Thus heaven is whatever you make it. Your soul is whatever you make it. Your existence is whatever you make it. You become god of your fate, free to choose your own path of infinite paths. You could choose to move on to become another soul, such as reincarnation, to live life as another physical being. You could live in a nonexistent paradise, though who is to say its nonexistent when you're on a supernatural plane? What if you decide to just ******** with your family's home for one or two centuries? Totally up to you.

damn ******** right I'm good stare

....anyway, I like your idea of "anywhere you want"...
Though I have trouble believing it. I dont really believe in ghosts, sure their is "Evidence", but I'm the "seeing is believing" type. Unless I see cold, scientific evidence that says "Yes, s**t went down like this", I usually have a hard time believing it.

One thing I'd like to point out on your reincarnation thing though, if we choose to come back, why dont we remember our past? or what if we're just reliving our same life, but making different choices... Like, what if I had a past life where all my friends were actually people I hated, or were indifferent too....oooh, spooky...but yeah, it's a meh theory to me, lol

I generally feel the same. I'm a very scientific, ethical, and rational person but I also have religious beliefs. And the religion part ******** with all of the other parts. lol So I like to instead say that I'm "open-minded" and just leave it at that.

As for the ghost thing, I know what you mean. It takes a first-hand experience to make anyone a "true" believer as some theorists would say. That holds true for any notion of God as well. But if there ARE ghosts, even just one...that means that there IS something after death, and something we don't have a ******** clue about. That interests me. I believe in ghosts not because I've had, what I can scientifically say, a fool-proof experience, but because I believe my closest friends when they explain thier own experiences to me. I know they wouldn't lie about it, and I've heard these types of stories countless times, so surely they can't all be false right?

As for the reincarnation thing, it was just an example of what the possibilities could be and was a sad attempt to give an impression that perhaps all religions are right in way or another. Obviously there's no way I could explain details about how reincarnation works, or anything finite about the afterlife for that matter, so I won't try to bullshit the answer or make wild theories (beyond what I've already proposed). So...who knows?

Lol, whatever the hell I do, its because I think itll be fun as hell to do it. I really couldn't care less if I end up in limbo, heaven, hell, or just six feet under the ground. lol.

But about reincarnation... there are many different theories about the topic. People believe that if you are truly reincarnated, you always live a different life than before. I believe this as well, 'cause it would be boring as hell to live the same life over and over.

@Hiro: ah, the old "For the Lulz" mind set? I have a friend like that...he's always in the hospital for something stupid, lol. And yeah, I couldnt handle living my life twice...once is good enough for me. Though if reincarnation was real, I'd deffinately come back to England, that's fer sure

The thing about 'experiences' with ghost could be complete allegory or its just that the person in question truly believes that they saw a loved one. The brain often works in mysterious ways, especially when a loved one has died. That person wants to believe the one that died is still with them so they force themselves to think that they are still out there. Even when you think you have gotten over it, your mind hasn't. Therefore you will most likely see projections of them around you and just call them ghost.

@hiro: I don't believe that. Let me ask you and snuff a very personal question. Have you ever tried wanted to believe in God? I mean you wanted it so much that you prayed, or shouted, or...whatever you did to try and make contact with God?
