This is a private roleplay between Cais [Never Crazy] and Liarae [Lonely Angelic]

Setting:

Noble Estates

Cais is out on a nightly patrol and comes across a young girl in distress, one who he does not get along with well.

For the first time in months, Liarae's mother had gone to bed before nightfall without demanding something from her daughter before falling asleep. Because Amolika went to sleep as early as she did, her father and brother felt they should go out on the town and enjoy themselves, but they considered that a man's past-time. Not that she wanted any part of their idea of fun.

Instead, she left the quiet house, as most of the servants had followed their mistress, and decided to enjoy the night on her own. Grabbing her sketchpad on her way out the door she mentally planned her course, intent to make it back home before the sun set. That gave her just a couple of hours to enjoy herself, so she set out to make the most of it.

When nightfall came, Liarae was caught off guard. She had expected to stay with her plan, but somewhere along the way she had lost track of time while drawing. Now she was outside, at night, without her chain for defense. Tucking her sketchpad away, Liarae started back home as quickly as she could, hoping to avoid any problems before she made it.

It was the first evening of his self-inflicted patrol and Cais could feel both the excitement and anxiousness bearing down on him while he set off on his route. This particular route he had chosen was one of many twists and turns but would eventually lead him from around where he had been chased by Legion thugs to the Noble estates where he knew of some loyal to the Noble Retainers. Perhaps it would do some good to make sure they were alright and not being spied on, or so was his thinking as he had set off at sunset with his bladed weapons on his hands.

He had noticed an influx of battles as the nights had gone by, entire streets blocked off in the daytime to clean up after a vicious battle had raked through the area. Though the new Fighter had no idea what had spurred the influx he made a promise to himself he'd join in the fray and protect those who were in on the cause. Though he would never admit it aloud a deep sense of pride had swelled up for the Nobles, as well as a deeper seeded hatred of the Legion that came from the loss of his brother. He couldn't dwell though, not tonight, not when it mattered.

Already an hour had passed and darkness swept the Imperial city as he lurked around the path towards the Noble estates. There was a pond not far off, but he would have to travel into a seedy street to make the shortcut towards it. His pace was quick as the warm air of the summer evening kissed his skin, causing there to be a thin line of sweat over him. Adrenaline moved up through him as he caught sight of the street and looked beyond to the estates.

Gripping a hold of his weapons an eerie smirk crossed his face. Somehow he was hoping he'd run into some trouble.

The Noble Estate's should have been safe for Liarae. Her home was not terribly far off now, she was almost at the street that would lead her directly back there. She could see it in the distance even, the expanse of land with her families crest hanging on the gate built as a deterrent to unwanted guests. It wasn't until she heard footsteps behind herself that she realized her home was not close enough.

Normally she would not hesitate to turn and face her problem, but tonight she had no defense. Glancing over her shoulder she noticed three men that seemed to be following her. They were all armed, each carrying a bow with a quiver of arrows across their backs and some smaller melee weapons at their hips. Liarae would not have let this bother her if she had had her chain, she was no coward, but her father had taught her well that fighting empty handed against a person with weapons would only lead to disaster. She was not fool enough to try to take on three.

Turning back, acting as if she had not seen anything to alarm her, Liarae kept her guard up, her attention focused entirely behind herself while she walked. Her pace quickened just slightly, not enough to be noticeable unless the men were following her for sure. The footsteps quickened as well. They were after her without a doubt.

With her focus behind herself so intently, Liarae paid no attention to the rest of the estates, nor to any of the things that could come from Legion men in the wrong territory. Therefore, when the arrows flew past overhead, she was not aware of them, or of the fact she was in their path.

While making his way through the dark and narrow street Cais stopped and listened to the night, hearing the faint scrapings of sandals and boots against rooftops and dirt, moving quickly into the distance towards the same destination. Adrenaline kicked in quickly and he felt his body propel itself forward to the source of the sound. With the darkness enveloping the city he was free to bolt through the normally busy streets with ease, stopping only to view the situation before him.

It was one of the side streets leading into the estates, one most commonly used by the people who lived there. From what he could tell, the three figures moving quickly through the street were not inhabitants, but rather equipped with bows and armor and making their way towards another approaching group, though Cais couldn't quite make them out. With curiosity building inside of him he moved further behind the three figures with a quick enough pace to keep them in sight, but far enough that they would either not notice his presence or ignore it due to the distance.

The sight he saw next over the horizon made his stomach clench and body nearly seize - a familiar head of blue hair walking towards a group running to her while the three in front of him drew their weapons. "Damn that girl!" He grunted loudly to himself, taking off into a sprint towards her. Even though she had annoyed him greatly at their last meeting, she was still about to be in the middle of a battle of Legionnaires vs Nobles. Cais had been dreaming of that moment when he would join a true battle and be accepted under his alliance. It often fueled these nightly walks, in search for others who shared his views and begin to work with them as he had intended.

He cursed under his breath. All of those ambitions gone for tonight, and all because some snobby girl had to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. As the arrows fired he shoved through the three and towards her as fast as he could, eyes focused on one thing and one thing only, saving the girl. "Incoming!" He yelled and with a huge amount of momentum he crashed into her, taking her into his arms. Not paying mind to any sort of protest he continued with his speed, taking off the beaten street and towards the cover of trees in the distance.

Behind him he could hear shouting and the sound of agony as voices screamed out behind him, followed by a clashing of steel. Grumbling he flopped her out of his arms and looked back at the distant battle with envious eyes. "Damn." He muttered, clenching his fists under his clawed weapons.

It was the second time she had seemed to ruin his day.

A shout caught Liarae's attention, and she turned her head just in time to see a familiar boy come crashing through the men behind her and grab her. He dragged her away just as the arrows hit the dirt and Liarae could hear a clashing behind herself of steel on steel. A war had broken out right where she had been walking, and whether those men had been following her or preparing for a fight no longer mattered.

Once they were away, once he had dragged her out of the war zone, the boy dropped her. "Nnn," she grunted, hitting the ground. Looking up at him, she knew where she recognized him from, he was the boy that sold her the glass from the Marketplace. Irritation sprang up inside of her, so she stood and brushed herself off, now wanting to be as far from him as she could be.

He had given her enough grief that one day to last at least a year, yet here he was again, much too soon. Giving him a last glance, Liarae looked around herself and noted where they were. 'The grove where the shade is strongest during the day.' This was a favorite place of hers on hot days, when her mother would not allow her to go far but she needed to get away. Of the days she was forced to stay near home, she found this to be the most comforting place to practice anything she wanted to.

Now that she had a location, she knew exactly where to go. Taking note of the fight going on, Liarae began to head back home again taking a slightly altered route away from the fight. All she could do now was hope the shop boy got the hint and left her alone.

He'd nearly forgotten about her already, enthralled b the clanging of metal, watching the battle unfold. Clenching his hands he stared enviously at the figures whom he had assumed were his fellow Noble members. Adrenaline was surging through him as if he were a giddy schoolboy. If only... if only... if... She was gone. Cais had turned from the battle for a split second before discovering she had already taken off. With a snort he grinned for a moment, happy to be rid of her. Then it hit him, that sickening feeling and his grin was lost. "Dammit!" he muttered loudly, lowering his body and dashing after her quickly. She's going a good way to get herself killed. He thought, wishing to scream the words out into the night.

He caught up to her easily enough, easing to a slower pace directly behind her. Clearing his throat he looked at her with narrow eyes. "Have a death wish then?" he began, glaring at her. "Let me guess, you're out alone without any servants and didn't think far enough ahead to grab a weapon." He continues, folding his arms. "Or do you even have one?" He asked in an annoyed tone. He was not going to let her live it down given how rude she had been to him before.

Saving people was something he wasn't even sure of to begin with. He wasn't sure if he could leave her or maybe pick her up and force her home or... The thoughts were endless. Surely there were other battles going on in the dark, perhaps right in front of them and she wouldn't be the wiser. "Hey!" he called, thinking it over. "Do you even know where you're going?" He said, louder. He had the feeling she would be likely to ignore him if he wasn't firm enough, so he pressed on. "I could have let you die!" he shouted towards her. If anything would get her attention, it was probably that.

She stopped. That feeling in her stomach was deepening, her anger with herself seething over into her next words. “Some noble, leaving an unarmed woman to die!” she snapped, her voice sharp. There were one hundred other things she could have said, so many things she could have used against him or retorted to, but it was his last words that she responded to first. They were the words that struck her the hardest. 'How could I have been such a fool?' she asked herself, knowing her parent's would make her life hell if they ever found out about this.

Perhaps this was the time to respond to his other questions and demands. “Of course I have a weapon, but I was out drawing and practicing and didn't notice the sun setting. And yes I know where I'm going, I'm going home! I don't need your help to make it home,” she told him, the words rushing out. Liarae had no patience left, not with this boy and not with anyone else.

That was the most she had said to anyone in a long time, and she stood staring at him silently as soon as she had finished. The fighting out there excited her, but it scared her as well so long as she had no weapon, and she knew she had to get home soon. Before her parent's found her and before she was caught in another crossfire. Instead, she studied him for a moment, trying to decide what to do or say, then she turned around again. “Follow me if your conscience demands, but it doesn't sound like it will if you would threaten to leave me to die.” Without looking back, she started back towards home again.

Her voice grated on his every nerve. "Well I didn't." He retorted, crossing his arms carefully so as not to hurt himself. She was stubborn, probably too stubborn to see her own part in anything, or so Cais thought - granted he seemed to share in the same problem. "Tch. Knowing full well you live in a war and leaving your weapon behind." He shook his head with another sigh and glared back to her, keeping in step despite her quick pace.

"Women and children die out here just like the men. I just find it relatively idiotic of someone of your noble background wouldn't be able to see that." Cais said with a gruff, moving to her side. "It is for that reason I'm following you, because I know that." He let out a light growl and listened, turning his head while his adrenaline heightened. "Hm."

"Yes, because when I set out today with the intention to be outside, I knew I needed to forget my chain so I would be weaponless and helpless when I left at night!" she growled at him, the sarcasm seeping through her words. This boy infuriated her, and she watched him while they walked, staring out in the distance towards a fight they could only hear.

Rolling her eyes she turned her attention towards home, surprised she could be happy to be in the company of her family over that of someone else. This boy was her bane, the one person she could not stand. His only redeeming feature was that he sold her the art she kept on her shelf. That glass creation was her prized possession, and she cared for it as such. Now if only she could get home to it, draw in its inspiration, and forget she had spent so much time with its creator she would be happy.

"If you want to go join the fight you can," she said, knowing he would rather be there than with her and feeling the same way. "I can fight, no one will kill me easily, and if they do I doubt you'd feel any remorse so I don't see why you're insisting I make it home alive."
