Nolens Volens ventured off towards the closest river to where her caretaker decided to stay for the night. It took her a while to find it, but she found it using her ears and her sensitivity to the amount of moisture in the air. She wanted to wash off the dirt and grime from the day's travels.
As she got closer to the river's edge, she first noticed the current of the river and then noticed the depth of the river. It was not the ideal place to take a bath, but she had to make due with what she had. The mare took a tentative step into the water, and shivered at the temperature of the water. It was as cold as ice. Her ears flicked back, not liking the details to this river but she was dirty from doing dirty work. Taking a deep breath, she carefully entered the water with slow steps in hopes her body could adjust to the cooling temperature. The slow steps didn’t help at all, and she still suffered from the full brunt of the chilliness of the river.
The mare entered as far as she dared to enter. She felt the slippery rocks underneath her hooves, and decided that she had to be careful lest she slip and enter the stronger currents of the river. Her ears perked up and tried to stay focused with the surrounding nature. Nolens was not expecting to hear a loud rustle that scared her out of her wits. Losing her footing on the rocks, the mare found her falling into the deeper into the river where the currents were stronger. Kicking her legs, the mare tried her best to fight the current, but her attempts were proved futile as she was washed down the cold, strong currents of the river.

Marzipanz Kore was lurking the depths of the forest. His natural terrain. A place he knew well and could step lightly. Lately, Mistress was insisting her company on him, growing more and more persuasive as the days grew on and she was starting to ease her way back into his heart. There were times when she could be a brutal, skeptical, twisted woman, and other times a sweet, caring lover. However, often times her tender loving was a decoy for a much nastier plan lying underneath.
Kore, being the naive boy that he was never supsected that she was himself. He pictured her as a ghostly figure at times who only lurked out of sight. Perhaps she didn't like to get to close, or something along those lines that would prevent the male from seeing her. Kore was completely unaware that he was clinically insane. Poor boy.
Whilst roaming his lonely territory he stumbled upon the soft crunch of frosty grass. It was still mid-winter so of course things were be cold, but that's how Kore liked it. He loved the bitter cold and the slippery ice. It caused him to be more alert and he loved the feel of his senses working hard. He stalked closer towards the noise, trying to keep hidden due to what his Mistress always taught him. If anybody laid eyes upon his grotesque appearance they would surely faint. At least that's what his Mistress claimed.
Soon he came upon a delicate flower of a mare. She was so stunning, and had these thorns. A rose, no doubt about it. Beautiful but dangerous. 'Don't even think about it,' his mind suddenly chimed, but it was in a feminine voice that was all to familiar. "What? I'm not thinking anything..." he whispered out loud, not wanting the female by the river to hear. 'I know exactly what you're thinking and how dare you even THINK it!' the female voice accused but just then there was a splash and Kore focused his eyes on the river.

Nolens Volens fought her hardest to get back onto the riverbank, but for one the river current was too strong and two, her short stature did not allow her any leverage. Her legs were too short to even reach the bottom of the river in hopes that kicking off of a rock would help propel her towards the bank. Instead, she bobbed up and down, gasping for breath when she breached the river’s surface before finding herself underneath the water again. Her front legs continued to kick in attempts to keep her surfaced.
Her tiny body was tiring. Her movements were more sluggish as she was swept further down river. She was going to be in so much trouble now that she was getting father and farther away from her caretaker’s rest site. It wasn’t until her back hit something hard, which had her awaken her to the situation. She craned her head to the side to glance at what she hit, and saw a boulder behind her. Shifting her body so that it draped around the boulder, she tried to assess where she was now. She had gone too far down river to tell where she was now in relation to her original position. The shore was still too far from her, and the current was too strong.
The mare rested her head on the smoother part of the boulder; feeling wave after wave of cold water hit her back. Her ears flicked back, as the feeling of dread and depression hit her hard. Why did this have to happen to her? Her teeth were chattering and her body was shaking in attempts to keep her body warm. She had nobody in this world anyways. Her caretaker would only get mad that she got herself in this situation. No one would ever notice she was gone.

Marzipanz Kore looked on with a horrified expression on his face. A pained look of wanting to help but fearing the results. That wickedly feminine voice echoed in the back of his mind yet again like a sick serphant, 'Leave her. What use is she alive to you? Nothing. Let us go Kore, before your foolish heart awakens.' The blue stallion's eyes flickered with a sting of anger as he huffed and ignored the voice in his head this time, stepping disobediantly out of his hiding spot.
Mistress was alarmed by his refusal to carry on and in turn she began to go off like a fire cracker, 'You idiot! You simple minded boy! What are you going to do? Save her? One look at you and she'd throw herself into the river just to get away. You'd be doing more harm than good Kore. Kore?! Are You Listening To Me?!' The alter ego in his mind continued to speak out and shout at him for carrying on with his good deed and it muddled up his plans. His body hesitated every few steps but soon he was charging into the river and kicking his hooves to carry him more swiftly down the current. He had to catch her before she hit the rapids. Certainly the unforgiving jagged rocks would make a mess of her beauty. He had to save this rose. Something about her was calling to him.
Being a stallion he could manuver through the waters far better than the mare could, however things were still extremely difficult for Kore. He eventually came to a point where he saw her pinned against a boulder. The cascading waters holding her with their brutal force. He wasn't sure how she would react to be honest. What if Mistress was right? What if she flailed and unhooked herself from the safety of the rock and fell into the rapids? Still, if he left she would be a goner for sure. He had to at least try.
He approached with ease, since the current was taking him towards her, however when he came to the boulder he craned out his neck and rested his head atop of it to keep him anchored. "Don't be afraid.. I-" he was interrupted by a furious booming scream in his mind, 'KORE, Get Away From Her Now!' he cringed and seemed to be in some sort of pain, all though it was all in his head. Even if he did get physically hurt the water would have numbed everything from the neck down.
