All I need is one star in the sky...:/ I saw something about it on Yahoo today, so I went and looked up the symptoms... (Cause I'm extremely shy, and that's part of what selective mutism is...)
And well... these are the symptoms: Difficulty maintaining eye contact
Often doesn't smile and has blank expressions
Stiff and awkward movements
Liking sameness and routine
Tendency to worry about things more than others
Sensitivity to noise and crowds, etc
Difficulty talking about themselves or expressing their feelings
Show excessive shyness, fear of social embarrassment, or social isolation and withdrawal
Moodiness, inflexibility, sleep problems
On the positive side, many sufferers have:
Above-average intelligence, perception, or inquisitiveness
Sensitivity to others' thoughts and feelings and empathy
Have a good sense of right and wrong
And everything bolded is what I have... (and the one bold with an underline means I REALLY do have that problem...) So basically, I have 9/12 of those symptoms. I don't know if that means I really have it, or if I just happen to be extremely shy with some of these other things added... I dunno... .-. ...Wish for you every night.

We seem to be in quite a few guilds together. And I most likely have it as well, as everything in your list applies to me. XD

A lot of those symptoms are similar to Autism, except for the empathy thing.
But you know what? That's just a fancy way of saying you're an awkward adolescent. Ask anyone under the age of 18 (Maybe even 25 in some cases) and they'll tell you they have those problems. Does it mean that you're different or weird? No.
My advice to you is that you stop looking for flaws in yourself and look at the good habits that you do. When reading medical articles (especially ones about mental problems) people seem to think that everything about them is like that, and they actually become more like what is described to them.
Ignore this, and strive to change your habits, and you will become a happier person. mrgreen

Wow, that just described 9/10 teenagers. This kind of seems like those stupid "illnesses" that probably exist but people misinterpret or even misdiagnosis the symptoms for. That also seemed to describe any shy, achieving student. So I guess thats me, and my honors classmates
EDIT: After my rant, I read the entry above me and I wholeheartedly agree.

Well, do you think this limits you from enjoying life? Instead of self-diagnosing yourself, take a look at how happy you are. If these symptoms you are listing have an adverse effect on your life, go seek help. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.

~I have them as well....But I think everyone has most of them because everyone gets shy and without shyness there wouldn’t be anything that lead to fear though I guess confusion leads to fear also....But it seems that this particular subject leads into the shy category....Well I say there isn’t really anything to worry about except depression...Yeah...Good o`l depression. Hehe all those symptoms are just shyness if you think about it and I don’t see anything wrong with being shy >:l just live life and leave it alone.

Most peope are shy and awkward, I've met enough of them.
