She had sent him a letter yesterday asking him to meet her in the town square this afternoon, for her plan to work they needed to be heading to the lake when it was just starting to get dark, she was wearing her temple clothes and on her arm rested a small bag which she was keeping close, she did not want to ruin the surprise for later. She wished she had more time to get ready however last minuet she was called in to help her master with a young boy who was injured. They lost him, it seemed like that was becoming the story of most cases, the war was serious and they were starting to see death as if it was as common as the rains. She had put a shield around her heart, she knew that she could not let it get to her or her dreams would be all that more difficult, when she became a Priestess she would save them and until then she would prey they rest in peace.
Talking about the war she had heard some gossip from the temple, it was not too long ago that she heard that Yue had graduated to the ranks of fighter but now it seemed like Cias had joined her. She thought going out to celebrate was a wonderful idea, thus the timing of their 'date'. Could she call it that?
The long haired girl sat on a bench, her hands placed neatly on her lap and her bright jewel like eyes scanning the area for any sign of the orange haired boy. The weather was pleasant as could be expected from a Lunarian Summer but to Sara even the winters were warm, living close to the mountains meant the temperature was a lot harsher and the seasons unforgiving. It was just another struggle people at her village had to face, she had not thought about home in a while. Maybe it was because she had gotten used to not seeing her loved ones around her, maybe she missed them so much it was just too hard to think about anymore. She took in a deep breathe, a teal stand of hair floating in the wind which went past.
She hoped he would come.

Cais had gotten the letter only the day before but couldn't help but have a dumb grin on his face for the remainder of the evening. It had a been a long while - too long of a while. He hadn't seen her since he'd officially been "graduated", he wondered if she would look different as well. That night he had barely slept due to excitement, an emotion which he rarely had. The girl had done wonders to bring back a sense of pride and courage in him and he owed that to.
Now on the day of the Fighter made his way down Main Street, humming lightly as the wind moved through his uncapped head. The feeling was new, but invigorating. A smile graced his features while the city square came in sight. The warm air of summer against his skin didn't do anything to slow his stride as he came up quickly, walking to her side and looking down at her, the present she had given him a long while ago hanging down under his neck.
He cleared his throat gently and smiled down at her. "Hope I didn't keep you too long." He said lightly so as not to disturb her thoughts. It was a day of celebration and renewal as far as he was concerned and he would not waste a single moment on any other emotion.

Sara blinked and looked up when she heard the familiar voice, a small smile came onto her face as she stood up from the bench to greet him. She closed her eyes and laced her fingers in front of her giving him a polite bow of her head. "No, I have only just got here myself." She added, if she had gone out of her way to get here early it was not his fault she had waited only for him to come on time, in the end she was glad she was not the one keeping him waiting, she was so nervous and wanted to get off to a good start - she had never been out on a date before, she wondered how her parents would react? Besides she liked just taking time to sit around and retreat into her thoughts. As her studies advanced she found herself meditating more and more, pondering her lessons and the words the spirits were whispering in her ears. She did not really have anyone to talk to about that stuff with, most people would think her mad or boring or maybe both. Sometimes she wished she had a friend in another Conduit - someone who could relate to her a little more than the average person.
Pale eyes looked over the boy who was in front of her, she could tell something had changed. "I heard that you had graduated, I am so happy for you Cais! I did not want to say anything until I knew it was true but I can tell... you look different, not in a bad way. I mean... you look older and your hair suits you a lot better like that. You look a lot older, its funny what small changes like that do to you." She gave a nervous chuckle at her rambling - suddenly realising that he was a fighter, he was a real fighter. I mean you often say students going out together but she wondered if he would really want to be seen going around with someone of her rank. Things had changed and it took seeing him to realise that this might effect them. Maybe she was just being paranoid, either way she wanted to continue the conversation - she told herself that tonight she would be herself, to draw the courage to do so.
"Are you settling into your new role well? Must be leagues away from what Academy life is like." She added, it must have been wonderful to see all your hard work pay off, she had studied with her masters for a long time now and she could not imagine a day when she no longer had to go to lessons or visit her classroom. It must be sad in some way, closing a chapter which had that much of a impact. Her eyes went over him once more to see he was wearing her necklace, she tilted her head to the side - her heart skipping a beat. She did not expect him to be wearing it, especially so openly. It made her smile, maybe he was just being nice but a small part of her wanted to believe that he really did care.

He was glad to see that he hadn't broken into her train of thought, and relieved she hadn't been waiting long. Cais felt a smile come to his face and nodded to her. "I'm glad that I didn't startle you." he said with excitement building up in his body. It has been such a long time since he'd been on anything that could even mildly be considered a date and couldn't help but feel a tad bit giddy.
As she looked over him he could feel his cheeks brighten with warmth. "Thanks." He muttered, before straightening himself to stand up. "I think I may have even grown a few inches. But yeah, it's... different." Cais felt himself fidget a little as he looked back to her. She was so calm, so sweet - innocent. There was a lot he would love to tell her about, his routine at night, what he had accomplished, what terrible things he'd stopped... but it wasn't the time for that. He wondered how it would be looked at, a fighter and student going together. With a shrug he smiled back at her.
"I enjoy the freedom the most I think. Though it's hard work." He commented, before holding out a hand for her. "Shall we go? I'd like to hear about how your studies are going." He moved slowly to take her hand on his and walk with her, unsure of exactly the destination but happy to spend time with her. "Are you hungry at all?"

"I can imagine, I have to admit the idea of being on a longer leash is one that I truly desire. My Masters and Guardians have not let me out of their sight lately. Maybe when I graduate they will trust me more, let me take care of myself for a while. It is a odd feeling when people are set to protect you, at first I hid behind them but now I have got to know Lunaria the idea of someone getting hurt for my sake frightens me. I never thought that one day I would learn how to use my gifts in battle but I think I have come to terms with the fact that I have little choice in the matter. I will always be a healer first but if a time comes where I must protect myself I will be ready." She stated, trailing off of the topic she really started on, it must be very different being a higher rank, you were expected to take care of yourself a lot more by the sound of it. Since Sara at the moment spend most of her time in the temple the thought of being able to wonder about more and have more choice when it came to her own life was one which was both alien and comforting. She would not be a little bird trapped in a cage forever, she would be able to spread her wings a little more. Like Cais had.
She chuckled slightly, he had just entered such a exciting time in his life and he was still asking about hers, it was sweet really but she did not really know what to say. She did not think he would really understand her training, at first it sounded strange even to her. "I doubt stories of my studies would be very interesting, I spend most of my days preying and meditating. Every so often I am taught in the art of spirit manipulation which I am starting to enjoy more, especially now that I have my medium to help me focus, though it is very tiring. Maybe one day I would be able to show you if you are truly interested." Maybe she was being a little judgemental if he really was interested in her stories she would love to teach him about what it meant to be a conduit, the little demonstration she gave him the day they met was just scratching the surface of what she was able to do. Thinking about it she had come a long way since those early days.
Sara looked down for a moment as he reached over to take her hand, a small blush creeping on to her face as he did so, she did not resist but instead stood until she felt a small tug. She snapped out of whatever place her mind was being held hostage and skipped forward slightly to walk next to him. "I am a little, why do you have a place in mind?" She asked in response to his question, she had not eaten today and admittedly part of that was because he had suggested going out before they headed to the lake, she smiled and held her bag close, she hoped he would enjoy the surprise she had in mind.

He smiled. "Being responsible for one's self is important, but you shouldn't rush it." He began while walking. "I know it took me a long while, much longer than it should have, but I had to learn a lot, both in the Academy and on my own before becoming ready for this." There seemed to be something in him burning to say more about it, but he refrained as he clenched his hand around hers for a moment, leading her down a nearby street.
"It's a strange world to me, but that doesn't mean I can't find it interesting." He put simply. Awkwardly he walked on with her, a smile stuck on his face and he looked back at her, clearing his throat. "There's a noodle house up here that's pretty good." He said blinking thoughtfully. "That is, if you like noodles." He pushed out, looking back to her. He felt his heart jump in beats, thumping heavily in his chest. It had been so long since anyone had made him feel this way, it was almost like being taken back into the Academy emotions. Nearly a nostalgic feeling.
Clinking against his chest was the present she had given to him, with a nervous hand he reached towards it and rubbed against one of the jade beads. There was a pause in speech and he walked in silence, looking back at her. His eyes moved over her for a moment before stopping himself, clearing his throat. "I'm sorry for being so awkward. I... haven't been on a date before." He said, coughing a bit to break the tension. "I might be a fighter but I'm not prepared for this" He said with a laugh, looking at her in the hope that she'd ignore the odd behavior.

"I am guessing the lessons you learned were not easy ones, I can understand if you do not want to talk about them." She caught a tone in his voice that suggested that he wanted to carry on and tell her what lessons he had learned. She had to admit that she was a little curious but did not want to press the matter if it was a wound still fresh, she knew that she would not feel right telling him some battle she had thought. Especially the more recent ones.
Then the idea of the noodle house was brought up. "Sounds like a plan to me, I love noodles." She stated, to be honest any kind of food sounded good right now and she had learned from a young age not to be a picky eater, when food was scarce you did not have a choice to choose things to your liking. Though admittedly since she came here ramen and noodles had become some of her favourite meals.
The next point that he brought up made her stop for a moment and look at him oddly. "You're not being awkward..." She finally stated after a moment or two, she knew that it was like to be nervous more than most people, when she first came to the city she would not say hello to anyone unless they came to sought out a conversation with her first. She could not hold it against him - she did not expect him to be so nervous but a small part of her was glad he was. It meant she was not the only one.
She chuckled slightly and stopped, keeping hold of his hand so he came to a halt with her. "That is hard to believe, I mean I thought someone as nice and handsome as you would have done this plenty of times before, but in truth I have never been on a date either, I guess that works at our advantage if one of us screws up the other person will not realise because they're just as inexperienced." She stated hoping her words might make him feel more comfortable. "You do not have to be scared around me." She ended and then took another step forward giving him a small tug, now it was her telling him to come along. For some reason now she was not feeling as nervous, maybe it was because now she knew that he was in the same boat as her.

"Some lessons are just harder than others." He stated simply, thinking back to what he had to do. It weighed heavily on his mind now and again, but he could never take it back thus it did little good to dwell on it. He had never truly regretted it, he knew that much at least. What had been done was the right thing, he knew that. It only made him wonder what else he would have to do to keep those right things. A sigh escaped him as he sat at the small noodle stand, moving a stool so she could take the seat beside him. He'd try his best not to let it get to him, at least today of all days. With her words he was brought back, blinking a little to focus again.
"I guess that's the truth of it then." He said with a laugh, nodding to the cook with a wink. "Special tonight, thanks Lu." He said to him, nodding back to his guest. "I come here often, usually right at dusk. He knows me pretty well." He said, smiling towards her. It was the truth of the matter though, he'd been out patrolling the streets since his graduation, eating lightly before taking off to the dark streets to quell some of the fighting.
...He had slipped from the moment at hand again and pointed down to a parchment in front of Sara. "This dish is very good." He said with a grin. "And don't worry, I'm paying, so price is no object." That part he made sure to let her know and the one thing his father had made sure to tell him - to not let the girl pay for her own meal. It was a new concept but he figured his father would have been right in these sort of things.
"Have you seen the fireflies yet? They seem to be late this summer." He added, scooting away from the subject at hand. He wanted all of his attention on her and not on the etiquette of the date in itself. He smiled back to her with a happy grin, she seemed to know how to settle him. "Well I do hope so, I think you could be pretty frightening if angry." He teased lightly with a light tone to prove the validity of the joke. Cais felt his body go at ease - now things were going well.

Sara followed after him and when the time to him sat by his side at the noodle house. Her eyes followed his motion down the parchment and smiled, if he frequented this place that much she would put her trust in him. "That sounds good, I will have one of these thank you." She voiced over to the chef, playing with her hair over her shoulder. She tilted her head slightly at the change in conversation, now that she thought about it - she had not noticed the little glowing balls hovering in the fields lately. "I can not say I have. Its a shame really, when I was little my mother used to scoop them all up in a jar of some kind and put it in our home. By night they are beautiful things but in the daylight, they are kind of creepy looking." She stated with a small chuckle, they looked a little like beetles actually. "Maybe we will be fortune enough to see some at the lake tonight." Actually that would be quite pretty alongside the other surprise she had for tonight.
She blinked a little and then gave a small smirk, she supposed she could be a little scary at times, she seemed to do a good enough job of freaking out the children in her village. "Oh Goodness, that is a strange thought. I am sure I could not be frightening if I tried, well unless I cheated and got some help from my friends, however I am sure that would be cheating." She had a slightly mischievous glimmer in her eyes at the mention of her friends one that faded quite quickly into the soft glaze her pale eyes were used to. She meant it stickily as a joke but a small part of her wondered how the spirits would react if someone did upset her. Most were kind to her so she had no reason to fear the lost souls, yet she could imagine a stranger being horrified by the creatures which went bump in the night. I guess that did make her a little creepy.
"So out of curiosity did you tell your family that you were going out with a girl tonight? I kept it quiet for now since my Guardian is so overprotective and no doubt my old temple masters would wrinkle their noses and say that was hardly something a young priestess of Lunaria should occupy her time with. I guess they think that it will distract me or something along those lines." It was a odd question maybe but it was a chance to keep the conversation flowing for the time being. She wondered how Hua would react to her being out with him tonight, she remembered one time in the bar one guy slapped her behind and Hua threatened to make him a Eunuch... she found out what that meant the next day. Maybe that was not something to mention to Cais. Some of the girls in the temple had taken a vow of celibacy, Sara chose not to. She did not want her professional ambitions to ruin her family ones. However she still did not think it wise to talk about her masters about it. It was not until now that she realised that she did not really have anyone to talk about this kind of stuff with, well besides Yue.
She smiled and rested her hands on her lap. "I told Master Shinto though and the other spirits, well its hard keeping anything from them, the dead seem to do nothing than gossip about the living. I only said nice things though." She did not know if that would make him feel better, she felt a lot more comfortable talking about her friends. She was closer to the dead than she was to the living, they were her closest friends and she felt like she could tell them about everything. Especially her master Shinto.

He was feeling more complacent as the minutes rolled by in her presence. The sound of noodles sizzling in the kitchen was pleasant to his ears and mixed with Sara talking was a relaxing melody of sounds. The question seemed to spark something in her as she spoke of her mother. It was a warm feeling and was endearing. "Could be be some there tonight." He said in a hopeful tone. "I used to run after them for hours when I was little." He said with a chuckle. "All over the place into the early hours of the morning. Nam and I used to even set traps and-" His voice lingered a moment when he felt it, that sickening feeling that bore down into his stomach when he spoke his brother's name. After the pause he felt his expression go flat. "-we'd put them in jars to look at for a while, then set them free together." he finished solemnly.
He was grateful when she continued on to a different subject. "Mother always says it's the quiet ones to look out for. Especially girls as they're fierce." Cais said, the smile returning to his face as he watched her. She appeared to be in deep thought again. "Friends are part of us, y'know. They help keep us who we are." he added thoughtfully.
His concentration was lost a moment later as a sizzling bowl of noodles was placed in front of him. Salivating he looked to the deluxe bowl of crisp noodles he inhaled a deep breath, smelling the three different meats and vegetables. With a longing look to it he fought the urge to dig into it until they were both served. With interest he turned back to Sara, bright eyes focused on her.
"I told my father." he said after a moment, curious about what she had actually said. "He was excited for me actually. Stuffed my head full of his advice before letting me go." He felt himself blush as their eyes met again. Clearing his throat he turned his attention back to his food, wrapping a hand around a cup of water nearby. His brain was ticking slowly and a sigh escaped him. He couldn't hold it back from her. "But he was also worried." He began, his voice dropping to a lower tone as the words pained his chest.
There was a long pause before he spoke again with another deep sigh. "The first and only other girl I was even somewhat involved with died nearly right after I met her." He said, his eyes growing vacant, though he seemed happy in a way to get it off of his chest. "I was in a dark place for a long while after that. He's worried that if something were to happen I would end up there again." His bright eyes found hers again, though there were solemn, full of regret. "I don't mean that to offend you or scare you or anything, he's still happy I'm here and with someone." He said with a small smile.

Sara looked over at him and felt a certain uneasiness as he talked about Nam. She had no idea who this mysterious figure was that caused Cais such discomfort. She let her hand wonder to his and rest on it gently to try and give him some comfort before saying the only words that she could. "Happy memories, they are precious to all of us. Even though we can not relive them it does not change the warm feelings that they brought to your heart and its that feeling we must remember." Maybe he passed, maybe they did not talk anymore, maybe he was too far away. If he could no longer share those memories with him it was just a reason to keep them closer and treasure them dearer.
She smiled and nodded as he talked about his father, she even giggled slightly. "I am sure he was, I do not know if it is the same with boys but to my father the thought of me showing interest in any man was something that kept him awake at night. He used to tell me about how he had some nightmare about some handsome young man that would come and take me away from him. I am sure somewhere out in the fields he is having the same nightmare right now, parents know these things. Either way I hope your father does not see me in that light, I am too honest to steal anything or anyone for anybody." She smiled as her own bowl was brought over to her braking off the conversation for a moment as she bowed her head and thanked the man who had given it to her. She smiled as Cais before messing with her chopsticks. It smelt wonderful. "... So what advise did your wise father share? Anything worth noting down?" She asked, maybe it was because she was not able to have the conversation with her own parents, but she wanted to hear about his.
Sara lifted one of the vegetables up to her mouth and then stopped, what he was so say next was something that she truly did not expect. She rested her sticks back down on the edge of her bowl and then turned on the chair so she was facing him full on. "She is not dead Cais, not truly. If I have learned one thing it is that death is not the end anyone makes it out to be. She is still around even though you can not feel her, and when the time comes for you to close your eyes she will be there too." She smiled, again trying to be comforting in some way. "Never the less at least you were able to bring yourself out of it, she may have been too young to die. Though you were also too young to be introduced to such a thing. It is sad to see children working to become killing machines. I was lucky that I did not know of war or pain before I came here - I could not imagine what it must have been like growing up with it all." He was stronger than he seemed, to go through all this and still have the courage to smile was a wonderful thing. Sara had been so depressed before, she was ashamed of letting things get to her when the problems of others were so much greater than her own.
"Either way I am not going anywhere. I am not a solider... but you are, it should be me worried about you out fighting at sundown. Just promise you will be careful, in the academy everyone was a novice but you might come across people who have been fighting for years. Since I came here I have seen people die and seen people with injuries where death seems the more merciful option and I have fought to keep them alive and in cases failed. I do not fear death Cais, I have learned not too. However being the only one who lingers behind. That is a thought that truly scares me." It has just really hit her, the thought of one of her friends dying. The men she had seen pass had all been strangers, what would she do if one of her friends turned up in the temple needing treatment. She had just about come to terms with watching strangers die but if it was one of them. She felt her heart sink slightly. Yue, Mei, Cais... any of them could be the next to fall. They were all in danger... No, she would not let any of them die. She would protect them all, she would save them when the time came. She had to.
She forced a smile on her face and reached over to grab his sleeve gently. "Look at us, we are here talking about such serious things whilst our meal is going cold. We are still here and happy, nothing else should matter right now. Anyway I have a surprise for you at the lake tonight." She stated with a small chuckle sticking out her tongue playfully with a small blush. She hoped he would like it...

Memories. That was truly all he had, though now had been tainted. Cais felt his teeth clamp together, fighting the urge to be forthright with the information behind his reaction. Such warm feelings that he had when he looked to his childhood memories were stifled by the thought of the betrayal which had happened recently. A deep, sorrowful sigh escaped him. How he would love to tell her, to tell anyone, even if just to get it off of his chest. But how could he? He already felt a burden to her. He figured it was best to just let it slide. "I guess that's true." He mumbled softly with a forced smile.
The next words stopped him entirely and he observed carefully, taking in her words. "I doubt you'd want to hear my father's advice." he said, a small line of blush forming over his cheeks. "Not that he thinks that you're that kind of girl, his advice is just very," There was a pause. "Geared towards men." He said with a light nervous chuckle. Cais loved his father dearly but preferred to allow their conversations to be private, especially those concerning women. He looked back just in time to noticed Sara's passion - in both her eyes and her voice - as she spoke. But what could he possibly say to them?
Deep within he knew them to be true - he felt that, he knew that - yet still, they dug deep under his skin, stirring his emotions. He swallowed and stared blankly at her for a while, unable to form a cohesive response. With a deep breath he dragged some out, despite believing they weren't the ones he had been looking for. "You're a sweet person, Sara." he said, staring back to the steaming bowl placed before him. "I know she's not really gone, but-" he paused, taking another breath. "Learning how fragile life is, especially in our situation, is terrifying. As hard as it was I know that as a fighter I will see it and know it over and over again. When it's someone you care about though..." He stopped and looked in thought for a moment. Someday I'll have to take life. He thought, his face becoming hard like rock.
Slowly the color returned to his face. "You're right though, let's just concentrate on a good night with good company." He said, taking a bite of chicken from the bowl. "Mm." He let out before shoveling more into his mouth. From that first bite he was quiet, eating in utter silence next to her. In no time he had finished his meal. "That was great." He said, placing down some coins for the cook and standing, stretching upwards, looking back to Sara. "Was I right?" He said with a grin. "Best we should go though, don't want to get stuck in a bad place." He said, holding up his arm for her to take. "Shall we?"

(( Haha and the second part of their date has begun! I have been looking forward to this one! ~ ))
"Indeed, you were. Thank you for the meal." She agreed, maybe it was because she had not eaten all day but she would quite happily claim that this was one of the best meals of her life, she put down her chopsticks in the bowl were which all remained was the carrots, before jumping down and finding her feet. Sara looked to her side and reached out to grab a lantern with a candle burning brightly inside it, it was getting dark and she knew by the time they reached the lake it would be almost pitch back so she thought it a good idea to bring it with them. "It will not take us long to get there its only just inside the forest. I am sure you will protect us if we run into any trouble." She added as she reached out and linked her arm with his, the lantern happily resting in her other hand. It was a short walk since Sara walked at a pretty fast passe. When the lake came into sight her eyes lit up and she released him from her grasp running forward. The moon was full tonight and the sky almost totally clear, the lantern was a good idea however the light rays of the stars seemed to be enough to illuminate the place. She put down the lantern on a nearby rock and then turned to look at him once more.
"We are here. I need to get changed so take off your shoes okay. And no peeping." She added with a small smile, she knew he wouldn't but he seemed so nervous she could not help but joke. She gave him once last look over her shoulder before she vanished behind some tree's to get undressed. It did not take her long and before she knew it she was tying the tie around her waist, the kimono came just bellow her hips and she wore no stocking's or shoes with it. Tuth be told she did not want her clothes to get wet and even though this might be something a little more revealing than she would usually wear she was thinking more about practicality that ascetics at the moment. Never the less she came wondering back out from the forest into the soft light the candle was giving and she approached him. "Are you ready for your surprise?" She asked cocking her head to the side innocently.

"You're welcome". He said simply, pressing along their way. He admired her for remembering a lantern, something in his haste he had forgotten to bring. "Oh, you bet I will." He said with a grin as he took her arm, walking to match her pace. She was right, the walk to little time and he was thankful for that.
The sight before him stunned him as the light of the moon glimmered peacefully over the lake. It was as if it had never been touched by Lunarians, and Cais felt compelled to stare at it. The word "peeping" took his attention and he glanced back to her, blushing already. Finally his mind fathomed her words. "I promise I won't look, but get changed out here? In the open?" He turned, closing his eyes tightly. "What if someone sees?" He couldn't fathom that thought, he'd probably make a savage attack.
At the sound of her voice the second time, he turned back, eyes still closed. "I think I am." He said, nervously. It was confusing, but he went with it. Sara was always so sweet to him, it would be something he would appreciate, he was sure of that.
