Even in tights and even in summer Euanthe was feeling a little cold. She probably had a case of the nervous sweats, it was her first patrol after all. The streetlights were flickery in this part of town, but even here no one was out and about at 10:43PM. She walked on the street - should she have been on the rooftops? She wasn't sure she was that brave - and stayed out of the light. After the experience of her awakening Euanthe wasn't entirely sure she wanted to be out at night anymore but night was when they attacked, when she was needed, right? As Euanthe she was needed so that she could stop worse things than what had happened to her from occurring to other people. As Linnea she was... what? A spoiled girl who danced and did nothing.

She paused at the entrance to an alley and peered into the darkness for a long while before she stepped in. Never could be too cautious now. It was a cowardly thing to sulk about in the shadows like this. How was she going to find a youma if she just stayed in once place? Yeah, sure, and what would she do when she did find a youma? Euanthe's power amplified a weakness but it didn't do any actual damage. The next monster she ran across could be even more dangerous than her first, and there might not be anyone around to help her out. But she had to do this, she had to.

Having stalled for as long as she could Euanthe finally left the shadows of the alley and began at a slow pace down the sidewalk. Her hands clutched at each other nervously, held tight against her chest and she wished there were more light to go by than just those damn, blinky street lights. But the clouds above were thick, smothering the sky and all its stars. For a moment Euanthe wondered if it might give her a summer rain but the air didn't have that damp, thick feeling to it. It would've been the last thing she needed anyway. Euanthe was already thoroughly soaked with doubts.

He was seasoned as many senshi would have called it. The few battles he had under his belt were more or less all with those based out of luck and his knack for it. The most he felt pride in was the fact that he hadn't ended up in another coma, or worse, had started some illicit love affair with a Negaverser or a Knight, (granted he almost had one with a senshi but he'd forever claim ignorance of that particular tidbit of knowledge). No, as far as senshi went Pollux was quite fresh and prone to all the pitfalls of the newly awakened. Failure, accidents, almost getting shot at by police. Soon enough he'd have to do a hospital run. He wasn't looking forward to that particular aspect of the senshi job.

Still, duty was duty and a job was a job. No payoff except the knowledge he was helping the world. Supposedly that is, sometimes it was hard to tell.

Nighttime patrols were getting easier as he begun maintaining a stricter schedule of just when and how he maintained his routes. There had been a prickling of energy the last few days in the area but nothing that didn't fade just as fast. Tonight he did feel the prickle of a youma and it didn't fade. His investigation would need to be tonight. When he managed to get closer to where he first felt the energy, another pickle ran on his skin. Another senshi, but to what level he could only guess, his normal exposure to his brother and sister-in-law's signatures throwing his skill newly awaken abilities off.

The roofs were poorly illuminated in the area, and the streetlamps with their poor wiring only worsened visibility. But as a light down the road flickered the shape of a person on the side walk, with an energy signature got Pollux moving. It wasn't dark and so logic had him guessing senshi or knight. But upon closer inspection-

"I used to walk openly on the street side." His voice was loud enough that it could be heard by any passing party, but for now, he didn't sense anything. A jump down, his landing was a touchy shaky, but he thankfully didn't end up needing to roll. "Trust me, after a captain managed to sneak up on me, the safest bet is the roof. Or the back ways, you just have to deal with fences and drunks and the stink is all." He offered a handshake. "Pollux, frost."

Euanthe blinked as the other senshi touched down near her. She let out a surprised little "oh" and chastised herself for it. This was a war against monsters and cosmic evil for crying out loud. Just like he'd said, someone or something intending her bodily harm could have been what dropped down, not an ally. 'Oh' was not the appropriate response. Couldn't she act a little more wary?

Regardless, the relief of not having to walk alone on her first night on the job was palpable. She took his hand with a sort of half-smile and a great deal more confidence than she'd had just a few minutes before. It was funny how just having someone else around could do that for a person.

"I'm Euanthe," an awkward pause, "Senshi
of tragedy and you're frost, wow, yeah. That sounds like an interesting domain. You... make things... colder, I take it? Freeze stuff?" It wasn't the most graceful sidestep in the history of conversation but Euanthe was still a little sore about her own supposedly super cool powers. Somehow the idea of having to explain them to anyone after Sailor Iris had cut a youma in half was a little bit underwhelming.

When the handshake had finished she glanced up at the roof from which he'd jumped. It was really quite far but he'd managed it without much trouble at all. Of course she understood that senshi were stronger, more agile. They could jump farther, run faster, and do all kinds of cool stuff, and of course that included her too but... from ground-bound Euanthe's point of view it was still impressive. "So, you been at this for a while? To be honest with you I'm still a little intimidated about going up. I may be a bit rubbish at this senshi gig," she admitted, her smile turning wry. It was the best defense she had against her own embarrassment. "Don't you worry about not making a jump and falling?"
PostPosted: Sun Jul 03, 2011 9:37 pm

Pollux nodded, giving her hand a light squeeze. She seemed just as new as he once been, if not a touch more. "Depends on how you define an attack, considering mine just covers a small area with a thin layer of ice. I imagine with time it will grow in strength but until then I rely on physical training." His demeanor was slightly changed from cautious to casual, almost borderline friendly. Though that was pushing the proverbial envelope. Hand released Pollux shrugged. "A few months, but off and on my patrols. Mostly I d**k around to piss off my brother who's all but thrown himself into this. The price of being a Prince I guess." Rolling his eyes the senshi of frost didn't seem impressed with the rank. Then again, family ties were a bit strenuous for anyone.

"You said your're senshi of-" His brow furrowed in concentration. "Tragedy if I heard you right?" He couldn't help but make a smirk at that while he walked over to the building, more noticeably the fire escape motioning her to follow him. "Well, if so, you are in the right place for it. Destiny City has certainly had it's fair share of tragedy. Monsters, murders, mass comas, you name chances are this city has seen it in one way or another. All we've lacked is a natural disaster really."

He looked back at her standing at the shadow's edge. "So long as you dont intend to cause such a thing can't say I not thrilled at the idea you can make the other side suffer if just a little bit given what they do."
Reaching up, he pulled himself up onto the ladder, climbing to the first level. "...All the time, but it's a matter of learning what risk to take, fear can send you across a street, a simple misstep can send you tumbling. I've taken a few bad falls but tucking a rolling is always good. In the end it's practice."

Pollux should have been listening to himself. He was a newbie educating a newbie. And he'd forgotten his first lesson. Always be vigilant. If he had been, he would have seen something down the shadows. Something to small to be human, too big to be a stray animal.

Euanthe smiled a little more sincerely as he began to talk about his methods, though she blinked at the mention of a brother. "Your brother is a prince? That's kind of awes- wait, that doesn't make you a prince?" Apparently Senshi royalty didn't work the way she was familiar with. "Is his name Castor? It would fit, wouldn't it, you being Pollux," mused the pink haired girl with the ghost of a laugh in her voice. Aww yeah that's right, she'd paid attention in that ancient literature English elective.

Ah, his treatment of her sphere was rather gentle. Though he made it sound much more exciting than it really was. She halted at the edge of the shadows, watching him make his way to the fire escape. Go up? Her hands knitted together anxiously and she paused momentarily, unsure if she wanted to follow. "As if I could," came her reply, half-murmured. A moment later she took her first steps after him toward the rickety metal ladder. If he could do it, she could do it. Though granted he had said something about physical training and taking a few bad falls and what if she broke a leg and couldn't practice- shut up, Euanthe told her brain. She'd rather be on the rooftops with someone better at this stuff than on the ground by herself.

"All I seem to be able to do is make whatever they're bad at-" the ladder rattled a little when she put her first foot on it "- a- aah, I make them do it slightly worse." Another foot on the next rung and Euanthe started taking his advice to heart. Fear would make her do something stupid so she resolved to be less afraid, and to do that she decided she would climb without looking down. Really, a rather unfortunate decision given that down was where she should have been looking.
PostPosted: Sun Jul 03, 2011 11:34 pm

Pollux laughed outright when she questioned the way senshi royalty worked. He got the logic behind it even if the cosmos didn't really work that way. "Hardly. A senshi royal is like...To be frank I don't know. I'm his natural born brother yet I didn't awaken until about the time he become a royal. The way it works is all quite funny, but I doubt I am royal. If I was, I would not be suited for it now." His mirth was spoken in sarcastic manner. His arm crossed as he leaned back to watch Euanthe get up the ladder. A sly smirk as she got the name right. "Castor is the son or a mortal, Pollux the son of a God. Yet our rolls are reversed. I am the humble senshi, he is the royal. Frost from the earth, hail from the heavens." A shrug brushed it aside as irrelevant. "The irony is lost on most I suspect. Fact is he's a powerhouse and I'm rather- well I'm not."

This was the first time that the senshi of tragedy would see the Pout of Pollux. Chances were high she'd see it again. The sight of her struggling to get up the metal gave way to his fact softening a bit. "Here." He held out his hand once more for her to get her up the last few ste-

"Up." His word was flat and lacking any emotion. Below, he saw the glow of fangs reflecting the flickering lights. "Get up the railing and climb." What ever was below them was starting to make a small clicking sound and Pollux didn't want to find out just why.

A sudden, short gust of wind shook the ladder gently, not even with enough force to be alarming but just enough to make her pause in her ascent. Slowly her smile faded and was replaced by a neutral, attentive expression as she watched his face change. Something about the way Pollux spoke of Castor and the imbalance between them struck a sympathetic chord with her. She could only wonder if the sarcasm and the blithe shrug were a cover for some undisclosed bitterness, but that could have just been her projection. Linnea had stared enviously at the backs of more talented peers and in her bitterness turned them into rivals. To add in the complexity of familial relationships on top of that... Pollux was making her glad to be an only child.

His extended hand made her blink. Resurfacing from her thoughts she smiled at him again, a smile guarded with nonchalance. "Oh, I wouldn't be too sure about that," she said flippantly as she reached for his hand. "After all, you're acting quite the gentleman-"

Just the change in his tone was enough to alert her that something was wrong. Quickly she grabbed his hand and hoisted herself up the last few steps to stumble beside him, thankful that her shoes were flats. "What's down there?" Euanthe asked quietly as the clicking noise started up, her hands clutched nervously and held at her chest. She stole a furtive glance in the general direction of the ground, though not long enough to actually see whatever it was.
PostPosted: Mon Jul 04, 2011 12:38 am

Whatever was on the ground chose that moment to launch itself up, scaly claws just barely gripping the ladder. It's body was flat and legs short, the youma resembled a flat alligator only with a fat round head, fur running on it's back and a cat like tail, which was coming up- to show a claw at the end, clicking together. That explained the noise at least. Beady yellow eye glowed as the light flashed from the street. Pollux's own eyes widened at the fact they hadn't noticed it sooner. "s**t." He gave Euanthe a push towards the other stairs. "Climb up."

The youma struggled going vertical. It's flat body was made more to hiding on the ground, not going up anything really. But it had two newbie in front of it. How could it resist such prey? As it got near, Pollux kicked the ladder, sending it shaking and the youma struggled to stay clung to the bars. It wasn't going to abandon it's prey. "I don't know about you, but having that thing get a chunk out of me is very much not on my plans for this evening."

He didn't even take the ladder, opting to just hoist himself up on the outside railing. "******** did not want to deal with this tonight," was muttered under his breath as he looked down.

The youma grinned back.

It was bad, whatever it was. Well, she knew what it was - it could only be a youma - but the exact nature of it was still a mystery until halfway up the second flight of stairs she forced herself to look down at their pursuer. Thankfully her horror at the sight of the monster outweighed the unsettlingly far away ground. And anyway the ground wasn't coming up after her with a mouth full of sharp teeth.

"This senshi thing, it really sucks you know," complained Euanthe through gritted teeth as she made it up the last few steps and started on the third ladder. The words were a great deal more blithe than she felt. "I appreciate the fancy magical dress but if we're being honest I'd gladly trade it in for a magical shank instead." A flower pot appeared at her side as she passed by someone's balcony and without a second thought for the poor flowers housed within she knocked it over with a quick jab of her elbow. A moment later she heard it shatter on the ground below but the lack of a satisfying thump confirmed her suspicions that her 'attack' hadn't connected. No further proof was needed. Euanthe wasn't about to look down at its ugly mug again.

If she hadn't been so concerned with climbing for her life Euanthe would have been rather impressed by Pollux's ladderless climbing skills. As it was her eyes were trained only on the next step, though she shot the occasional glance upwards- how many more ******** stairs would she have to climb? Don't panic she reminded herself. Don't mess up, don't fall, don't panic.

Pollux rolled his eyes, he just had to. It was an inborn, habit he couldn't kick, honest! "Really now? I thought becoming a magical human would mean I get to go to a school for wizards, or I'd at least be able to get something practical out of this." Looking back at the youma, it managed it's way onto the first level, and the claw tail's clicking was getting more rapid, perhaps with a growing excitement of getting to not one but two senshi. "I'd prefer a magical spear really, a shank mean up lose and personal, with a spear you'd get to maintain a safe distance."

Pollux flinched when the pot crashed down, and the youma hissed at the failed attempt to get struck. It wanted an easy meal, and so far the two senshi going skyward were not making it's job any easier. To Pollux's mind, if it pissed off the youma, it was better then nothing. As he reached the second to last level, Pollux looked down, with just stairs and no more ladders, it was gaining ground on them. "Goddamn youma and their goddamn tenacity." Looking at Euanthe he figured they were both going to end up youma food if they didn't manage to get away in time.

Focusing on the youma, Pollux picked the spot where he intended to hit, the youma's face. maybe it would give them enough time to escape, or just some time to put themselves in a better position. "Chilling Storm" The attack missed but rather was cast on the next level of the fire escape, ice forming a slick surface, which the youma's tiny legs slipped a few times as it tried to get to the next set of stairs, which also had a mild cover of frost on them. "Goddamn can't we get one break? Really?" The clicking of the youma's tail was the reply he got.

That and a snap of the fangs. Apparently the youma didn't like the cold footing.

It was clear that just fleeing wasn't going to save them - they could only get so far up, after all. For all its clumsiness and its awkward little body it was doing a pretty good job at climbing. Euanthe paused in her ascent to watch Pollux cast his magic, even in her anxiety she was quite keen to see what it would look like. It was rather pretty, she thought. Of course, pretty wasn't really the point.

He missed, apparently, given his cursing. Covering a lizard-like youma in frost would have been a pretty good thing, if its blood worked the same way as real lizards (but given the whole royal senshi thing maybe not). But its claws were making that skittery, unstable noise and the way it snapped at them made Euanthe blink. "No," she said slowly, dropping her foot onto a lower step and jumping off the stairs onto the level of the fire escape below her. "I think that works better."

Cautiously she started down the stairs between her platform and the icy one. Getting close to the youma frightened her but her attack had a rather short range when you considered how far away from a youma you had to be to consider yourself safe. Not to mention it relied entirely on her aim being accurate. Heart pounding, Euanthe crouched on the last step down, the metal under her feet covered in a slick layer of frost. She bit her lip and waited.

When the youma appeared over the top of the next step she tapped two fingers to her lips. "Kiss of Tragic Fault!" she said, not in any way confident enough to make the phrase sound less stupid. At least she didn't actually have to pucker her lips and make it a "real" kiss when she did the attack, thank god. And given their current circumstances how stupid or silly looking her attack may have been was the last thing on Euanthe's mind. She had only just enough time in the split second between the "kiss" and when she drew her hand away from her lips to pray her arm wouldn't shake. Then the needle of light flashed from her fingertips, and thank the heavens it connected.
PostPosted: Sat Jul 09, 2011 12:54 pm

She went from moving up, to moving down. Pollux gaped as he watched her change directions and move south, looking to confront the youma from his perspective. The slicking of the claw was reaching a fevered pitch as Euanthe changed her plans, and got closer and not farther from the creature, who with all its' oddly shaped, freakish might was damn intent on getting either of them.

If it got the one in the skirt and not the sash, what did it matter to the youma? A star seed was a star seed and a dead senshi would be just that, dead.

Marlo was still having a moment of wondering just what the hell his fellow moonlight monster killer was thinking before his mouth works a step ahead of his thoughts. "Better, we're supposed to get away from it, not closer." He hissed, while the clicking stopped, the youma now in range for the senshi of tragedy's attack. the flicker of light and the youma snapped it's jars shut, expecting pain, but when none came it took a rather determined step towards her. It was this close now, and soon, it would have a tasty mean of a starseed.
Or it would have.
The first step was solid, but the second was less firm, the tiny claws unable to really find a grip. The youma didn't care, it was so close, so close. As Pollux moved back to pull Euanthe further away, spurred on by perhaps his inner machismo, the jaws snapped and then-

It was out of control. Loosing it's already terrible footing the youma struggled to stay upright on the slick frost, but as it continued to scramble, it found itself sliding precariously towards the edge. Pollux watch in a bit of amusement as the youma, in a desperate bit to right itself, used it tail to try and grab the iron bars, only to find the frost had crept up those as well. It was like watching a cartoon, a creature failing to get it's footing-

-then falling into the shadows below.

Euanthe stumbled back with almost as little grace as the youma. With her task done she had become very aware of just how close it was and the sudden surge of fear, combined with the slipperiness under her feet, robbed her of her balance. It was only Pollux's grip on her as he tried to pull her away that kept her from falling straight onto her a**.

She didn't feel satisfaction as the youma slid its way toward and eventually over the edge. That would come later. Instead she stared at the emptiness at the edge of the fire escape for a few moments, uncomprehending, an acute absence of feeling within her. When relief filled that spot she realized it was the place where fear had been before. Haltingly, as if unsure of how to make the sound, she laughed.

"Oh, oh god," Euanthe gasped out between breaths. It wasn't funny, it was scary. But she kept laughing anyway, she was so glad it was over. It hadn't seemed so scary when she was doing it but- Shakily she disentangled herself from Pollux, realizing she'd been clutching his arms for support on the slippery surface rather too tightly. She hoped, in a distant and dazed way, she hadn't left uncomfortable marks in his skin. "It- It was so close. That thing- it could have killed me."

Oh come on, some part of her wanted to say. It didn't even put a scratch on you. It was true. She shouldn't have been this scared. What would she be like if she did get hurt? At this rate she'd faint dead away from a paper cut. Stupid, so stupid. Euanthe flushed, her relief turning cold with disappointment. Pollux had kept his head, he wasn't shaking like a soaked kitten and he'd been in just as much danger as she had.
PostPosted: Thu Jul 14, 2011 11:51 pm

Pollux's heart was still pounding, the echo of blood pumping in his ears as the emptiness and lack of sound below helped to confirm the youma hadn't survived the fall. "You okay though?" She seemed shaken, and from her grip was just as new to the life threatening situations as he was. Hell, he was probably going to have the shakes himself soon enough if he didn't already.
As Pollux tooke a few deep breaths to calm his nerves, Euanthe's laugh made him smirk and relax against the railing. They'd gotten away from the danger. Score one for the senshi side.

"Remind me to not hang around you when Murphy's law can be invoked. And if anything-" He sounded a bit calmer now, the stress of fleeing no longer pressing down on them. "Better it then us." Take a second to peer over the edge, a small pile of dust could be seen. The youma had died alright. And from the way the dust was scattered? It was a lovely, if temporary stain. A pat on her shoulder the senshi jerked his hear at the ladder. "Still got to get to the top. I don't feel all that keen towards dark alleyways right now."

Euanthe wiped at her eyes preemptively - she wasn't going to cry god damn it - and laughed again, shaking a little less. "H- ha, sure, but then you'll miss all the fun. This is what we're supposed to do, isn't it? As Senshi." She looked down at the patterns of dust. As soon as the wind picked up it would all blow away. "What a shame," she thought aloud. "If their bodies didn't break down so easily there would be more evidence to make people aware of the battles going on around them." With the summer heat Pollux's frost too was quickly melting away. So that was the way of it, then. Discreet battles out of sight, against foes that vanished as soon as the fight was done. If that was the way it was, then that was the way it was. Resigned she simply sighed, "c'est la vie."

Maybe she should take a hint from Pollux and add some self-defense lessons to her extracurricular activities.

"I'm with you on that," responded Euanthe as she started up the stairs again. The younger Senshi was just as keen as he was on leaving behind the darkness, and there weren't many flights left to the top. The effort it took to get her up the next set of stairs was surprising, however. Without the adrenaline she was finally feeling the workout all that upwards fleeing had given her.

"Are you planning to stay out after this?" She asked when she was nearly at the top, mostly in an attempt to look casual while she paused to catch her breath. "Or do you log one youma a night and call it quits?"
