It hadn't been that long ago since he had been in this position himself. Looking out on the waves. Of course he had been some what smaller than he was now and the sea looked so much larger than it did to him now. The sea hadn't shrunk, far from it, he knew it to be larger and more fathomless than even is imagination could pull in to being. It was known to him now though. He swam daily and he knew where the deepest parts of the cove were. He knew where there were anemones' that could harm, seaweed that could heal and fish that tasted just right on the palet.
The sea also constantly confused and surprised him. There was always something new. This was a day though that he had to chance his family with the sea. He had to let his babies, his and Iraras babies brave the waves. He had chosen the exact spot that his own father had lead him and his siblings to when they were the same age as his own cubs. It made a knot tie in his stomach that he was letting his babies go in to the waves without any assistance from him.
Taking a deep breath he turned to Iara and gave her a quick lick on the nose before sitting slowly and looking to the cubs, cubs, they weren't cubs any more, young adolescents about to face their first rites. He smiles lovingly at each of the girls and nodded a quick approval to his only son. "Each of you must go out in to the waves and the sea must lift you from your paws." He states simply, though a shiver ran down his spine. The sea was calm, this was the best place to do the rites but it didn't make him any less nervous. "When you emerge from the waves you will be adults." He smiles lightly and lets out a long sigh, already his cubs were grown and ready to face the world. He was so proud of each of them but that didn't make him any less tense.

So this was what the rites was about. Iara swallowed nervously, as an outsider she had never undergone this before. It was a weird rite, but she knew it truly fit this pride. It almost reminded her of her own rite – the one that allowed her to join this place which had become such a treasured home for her and her family. The lioness smiled lovingly at her mate and nuzzled him. For a moment she stayed there against him, leaning into his warmth and solid frame for support. Then as she looked into her cubs the lioness pulled away so that she could stand and walk closer to her beloved cubs.
All of them. The girls and her one son were so beautiful. It was surprising to see them getting so big and Iara was sad to see the change. Soon enough they would be adults who no longer needed these licks and nuzzles from their mother. They really were growing up. Walking through them she took a moment to nuzzle and lick each one to give assurance. She was sure that while they may be nervous all of them were fine.
“May the water goddess watch over you and you’ll be back to us in no time.” She whispered with a small smile, “But then I guess I can’t baby you so much after this?” She asked, half-saddened and half-humored by the fact. Pulling back she grinned at them, “Don’t hesitate, but don’t let any fear take over you. These waves are our home; your body should know what it needs to do in order to pass through this rite. I have faith in all of you and have no worry.”
Iara looked to the waves and then back to her cubs, “Don’t wait. The ocean is waiting for you.”

Afina inched nervously forwards. She looked at her strong father and her sweet mother who's colours she had inherited. "I'm frightened." She whispers to her mother touching her nose to her mothers shoulder as she steps towards the sea her paws sinking in to the pale sands letting the soft sand drag her paws. She was frightened. this would be her first true step in to the sea and her stomach felt like lead. What happened if she couldn't swim? What happened if the sea took her away?
Taking a deep breath she glanced back at her parents, so close yet so very far away. She smiled nervously and stood at the waters edge the waves lapping at her toes. She paused for another moment and looked at her paret's strong, proud, she just had to take a step. Before Afina could manage to worry any more the teal coloured Tarni whooped and after nipping her fathers shoulder she bolted for the water in a wild yip. She wasn't frightened. he had been waiting for this moment her whole life and now she got to go in to the sea. She would get to go in every day from now on. She would be allowed to dive and swim and enjoy the salty goodness. With a grin she splashed in to the water sending up a mini wave soaking any siblings behind her. With a laugh she splooshes through the calm waves her teal body causing little waves of their own.Afina shakes her head. and letting out one final deep breath she follows her sister, her steps more cautious than her sisters. Tarni had reminded her that the sea was their home, yes, it was to be feared, but this was the reason why they lived by the thrashing waters. To be a part of this world they had to accept the seas gifts. Smiling widely Tarni stops and closes her eyes, the waves lapped around her throat and she waited for the next hillock of water to lift her paws from the sandy bottom. She would be an adult soon and it made her feel so very pleased. She was FINALLY an adult! The water pushed against her chest and in a second of uncertainty her paws scrabbled for the sandy bottom but her paws soon found their rhythm and cresting the next wave she swam for the furst time in her life. With a loud whoop back to her siblings and the beach behind her she doggy paddles back towards the sandy beach where when her paws touched the dry sands she would be an adult.Afina smiled gently at her sister as she watched her swim back for the shore, her wade through the gentle waves had been much slower but she had slowly made her way to the deeper water . The knot in her stomach felt like lead and she closed her eyes willing the heaviness to go away, when, it did. She suddenly felt light s air. The waves had lifted her while she was waiting for her body to stop feeling heavy. She giggled quietly a smile lifting her lips as she allowed her body to do what it had to. Turning for the pale beach her tail snaking out behind her acting as a rudder. The sea and her body had done what her mind had been so frightened about. She realised, she needn't have been so scared. The sea was her home, she would never be so afraid of it again!

Talise looked over to her parents nervously. She loved the water it was true, but did this rite change everything? Would the waves be more dangerous than ever before now that she was going in to prove herself? Her mother had always been with her before, helping her along the way. The deepest she had been was in a tide pool and that was only when she had slipped by accident into the deep water. The smaller female shivered at the nightmare of going under. But just as quickly she listened to her mother’s words and shook her head. That was right. Her body would know what to do because the waves were her home. She just like her mother was a fish in the water. It was the only place where she made up for her smaller size. On land she wasn’t the toughest, but once out in the water she was like a fish that no one could ever catch. And now she could prove that.
She loved the ocean and felt that it loved her in turn.
The thought took away any hesitation and the young lioness took a step forward. “Alright then.” She whispered looking at her mother and smiling. “I’ll be back soon.” She commented before turning her gaze back to the ocean and walking forward. The water lapped at her paws, a cool touch which only secured her confidence. This rite she would pass without fear.
Watching her siblings the young lioness stifled a laugh before walking in. Soon enough the waves were picking her up and down. But she wasn’t afraid, rather she was enjoying the experience. Purposefully she took her time in the waters, waiting to see each of her siblings pass before going back to land.

Beyler was a complete and utter wreck. It wasn't that he feared the water himself... but his sisters! How he fretted for their safety! Granted, mom and dad both were here, standing on the shore should anything go wrong... but hadn't his father charged him with his sisters' safety? His tail twitched anxiously as he slowly waded into the water, his eyes darting from one bobbing form to another. Yes, there was one... and another farther out... still padding forward his front paws went unexpectedly deeper, and he scrabbled backwards, frantically jerking his chin upwards to try and keep all his siblings in sight. What if they were in trouble while he couldn't see?
Eyes wide, he counted them off mentally and breathed a sigh of relief, stepping backwards again away from the playfully enticing waves. A sudden thought occurred to him, and he glanced back with wide eyes at the sisters who had yet to enter the water. What if they needed him, and he was unable to help because the sea had taken him? Confused and torn by indecision, he stood in water too shallow to lift him, his chest fur dripping proof that he'd gone in deeper than he was currently, and yet not swam yet.

The female who looked so similar to her father, stood before the waves; gazing down at them. Hera's ears were flat against her head, observing the waves. As a wave came up, she watched the sand move in the strange and wondererous fashion that was so familiar to her. She had never gone out into the water like this before, just dipping her toes in her whole life; had been her small taste.
A taste of her future.
She cast a gaze at her brother and her sisters; before shoving forward with one quick motion, eager to start her adult life. As she stepped, she felt the water tugging at her paws. It was amazing. She quickened her pace. "It's amazing! MOM DAD ITS AMAZING!" She squealed back at them, her tail being held up above the water, as she was not deep enough to allow the ocean to lift her. She turned to look at her parents. "I LOVE IT!"

Zephyr padded to the waters edge, carefully looking back at her parents with her famous lopsided grin. Even though she was a little hellcat, she craved their approval, and knew that now was her chance to shine...in a positive light, that is. It was all she'd been dreaming about for years. How many times had she snuck out into the water behind their backs? Been scolded for riding on sea turtles? Throwing fish at her siblings, and generally being a sneaky syrin? All of that 'training' was about to pay off.
Of course, looking at Beyler eased her nerves. "God's blood, calm down, would ya? It's not like we could drown or anything." She teased mercilessly before she charged off into the water. She was invincible! Didn't he know that by now?
As soon as she was in deep enough water, the adolescent dived under the waves. It was a while before she resurfaced, and that was only to catch enough air to go back under.

Aysu wasn't going to wait to be told, the minute her parents told her to go into the water she ran down and jumped into the water - possibly not the best way to start ones rites but it was how it happened.
She stood in the shallow end for a little while before a large smile crossed her maw and she watched as the tide came in lifting her from her paws. YAY! She was basically screaming with happiness inside her head but she stayed put for as long as she needed to!
She looked to her sisters and just smiled waiting to be told to leave the water. Oh how this was so awesome. It seemed all them were happy to be there, not one seemed scared, well other then her brother but she ignored him. Brothers were for ignoring after all!

As usual, it was wild and brash Zephyr that gave him the worst scare. All the others had the good sense to stay above water, but she had to be different. Her teasing words didn't abate his concern, of course, and the stunt she pulled after only made it worse. The moment she disappeared under the surface, his heart began to thud. He daren't look back to shore at his father, for fear this was a test of how well he looked after them all. He took two steps forward in anxiety, but then she came back up.
He only had enough time to breathe once in relief when she disappeared again. Alarmed, he became certain this was no test, that she must be in trouble! He thrust his large frame into the waves and strove to reach where he last saw her, not even realizing he was swimming powerfully and naturally as a bird flying. He paused and paddled in place, waiting for her to pop up again, frantically searching the water for her, when he saw her form shoot by under the water like an otter. Why, that little snip! She was no more drowning than... than he was! It finally dawned on him that he was in fact fully swimming, and therefore had passed the actual test. He was an adult!
He turned for shore, eyes still carefully picking out the forms of his sisters, though less frantically than before. Zephyr he didn't bother about at all now. As he swam back, he ruminated that really, this felt quite enjoyable, and would be a good way to cool down on warm days. He splashed back up onto dry sand, panting faintly from the exertion. He hadn't realized that swimming would take so much out of him! Dripping wet and feeling accomplished, he gave him parents a sheepish look. It was done now, regardless of how it had happened!

Even watching his silliest daughter sink beneath the waves didn't worry him. He would know if they were in trouble. He couldn't help but feel overly proud of his only son. He wanted to tell him to stop worrying about his sisters but he knew Beyler wouldn't listen and this was their rites after all, not his. They had to face the waves alone that was the law of the pride.
Poseidon watched proudly, a smile spread across his maw. He couldn't believe it, not only were his children adults, but they had past their rites. He was proud of each of them. Getting to his paws he roars out an approval flickering his tail in a pleased manner.
He nods gently and sighs gently. He had to be less protective now, he had to let them get on with their lives. That didn't stop the feeling of pure pride that flowed through his chest.
