Fia, the historian, was out searching for water. Not her usual job, but something that she'd taken on since discovering that there was a severe shortage in the desert. Ha, yes, water in the desert is always scarce, you might say. But it had always been there before and always respected. Now...with no rains and no flow from the nearby mountains, the shallow rivers and the scattered pools were running dangerously low.
She paused to cast her companion a quick glance. Vesta was particularly glum and untalkative, her eyes fixed on a distant spot on the horizon. Fia felt a little sorry for her. After all, it wasn't her fault that there was no water to 'seek'. Yet...she'd not stopped seeking since she'd had to break the news that they could be in serious trouble.
There was no 'could' about it. They were in trouble and if adding another pair of eyes to the search team could help. Well...Fia was not about to sit back on her laurels and do nothing. She had history to make as well as record.
"Shall we split up and meet back here when the sun crests the den tops?" She cast a look back to see the very rips of the black rocks. It would take the sun a few hours to get there and be dark by the time they returned. But hopefully they'd find something useful in that time.
"Sure." Vesta replied, her voice weary and low.
Fia, giving a small growl, flicked her tail and, noting the location, moved away from the sullen female and across the desert alone. First stop was going to be an oasis she knew existed. She wanted to see for herself the damage that was there, if only to confirm that this was actually happening. After ten minutes of walking, the tops of the palm trees waved to greet her and she quickened her step to shelter beneath their shade. But was it her, or did those huge leaves look a little more brown than usual? Were they...dying, too? She slowed, almost fearful now of reaching the place and seeing the proof with her own two eyes.

There was something else out of the ordinary around the palm trees. It was a little hard to notice because of how it was placed. If you looked again though it looked like a figure, a rather large one, mostly white. It was a lion who decided the heat of the day was escapable under the large palm trees. They were dying but yet he didn't mind. He had just entered these lands not too long ago. He knew he was close to a pride but yet he was interested in joining it. It heard of the firekin before from passing lions and he felt like he needed to be there, he felt like there was a chance of him being able to call it home.
He was on his way but he decided that he needed a break from the heat. He wasn't aware of the water crisis at the moment, there was water out there but then again he hadn't drinken anything in about a day so he wasn't that sure. He was thirsty but yet he was tired and he would rather lay around for a while.
He lifted his head, his large mane moving with it exposing his eyes before he flopped over on his side and rolled onto his back. He really had nothing better to do for the way but rest. Then again these trees were pretty amazing and made him want to do nothing the rest of his life but just lay there and relax for a long time. He laid and pondered thinking about what he was going to do next and when he was going to offically approach the pride. He needed to move soon though, he knew that for a fact.

As Fia tipped the slope of a dune and set eyes on the entirety of the dune, her eyes were drawn to the muddy remnants of what had once been clear, blue water. The wind rattled the crisp palm leaves, disturbing the peace of the otherwise silent desert.
In fact, it was only as she drew even closer that she realised a lion shaded there. At first she assumed him to be a water-seeker, then, at catching his scent, she realised he was an outsider. He still smelt of grass and earth; a strange moist sort of scent that had her mouth watering. Those outsiders really didn't know how lucky they were to have such expansive herds and water. Unless...they were struggling, too? What if this was a bigger problem than just in the desert? What if the outside lands had not seen rains, either?
Drawing closer, she gave a chuff of warning, circling around him. She wasn't particularly wary of him. After all, she was a talented fighter. She'd just rather not expend energy on a fight that could be put to better use with seeking.
"Ha, a little water thief." She spoke in way of greeting. "Surely you've wandered a little too far from home, lion?"

Ahadhi was surprised by the sound of another. The chuff alerted him but he did not move quickly he lifted his large head slowly before stretching himself out he looked at her. He was a little annoyed at the sudden appearance of the lioness. He wasn't exactly paying attention to know the lioness was coming before then but he still didn't like the fact that she appeared so suddenly. He flicked his hair out of his eyes and then looked in her direction before arching a brow at her. "Water thief? He arched a brow before chuckling. "Nope, not here." He pushed himself up on to his feet and shook the sand out of his coat then flopped down on his haunches.
The rather large lion looked at her before speaking again. "I have no home." He stated simply, his voice was just as gruff as the rest of them. "Are you far from home?" He asked with a small chuckle. "You smell like the pride not to far from here. I've been checking it out the last few days." He mused for a moment. "I heard the firekin are the strongest around here." He was strong and large however he wasn't dumb like the stereotype. He had asked around about the pride and as he woke up more and more quickly by the second he took in the black lioness's body, she appeared to look like what he expected a firekin to look like. "You seem to be almost as lost as I am." He grumbled a little quietly. He didn't like being accused of things, but it came with the rogue life and he was pretty used to it by now.

"Not as far as you." Fia replied somewhat sharply. She wasn't anti-social but she was a little out of practise. She tended to stick by herself, talking only with her old mentor and her close family. Most of the others in the pride tended to irritate her and the last rogue she had crossed paths with had been no exception.
Ugh, Veru.
Her sister deserved a medal for putting up with that oaf and for that idiot Vlam. Honestly, Ea might come across as a bit wild-tempered at times, but Fia figured that anyone with her job would be the same.
She sat at the edge of the water and stared at the muddy murk sitting stagnant at its bottom. For a long, long moment she was silent and it may have been believed she'd not even heard the other male's statement until she finally flicked an ear back towards him and spoke again. "Lost...I suppose you could describe it as that. I know these lands well but...the desert has become a bit of a stranger to me in these recent days." She threw a look at him, scowling a little. "If you were a wise lion, you should turn back the way you came. If you want a home, I wouldn't suggest the Motoujamii as it is now. Soon there may be little more than skeletons here." The words had her stomach churning with nausea but there was no avoiding it.
No water. No life. It really was that simple.
"Let that be a warning to you, lion." She stood, satisfied with what she had seen here. Vesta was right. There was no water. Which meant what, exactly? That they had to go even further? Perhaps outside the desert itself? And could any lion or lioness survive going back and forth like that? Would they not die of thirst before they reached water and back? And with no way to carry it...
She closed her eyes, clearly troubled.

Ahadi chuckled some before shaking his head. He thought about it before looking at her a small smirk was on his face. "But if I have no home how can I be far from it?" He asked curiously looking at her, in a way he was just pulling her whiskers but at the same time it was a bit of an honest question.
Ahadi listened to her as he talked shaking off the sleepiness as he stretched out in front of the pond and then looking into the water that she was looking at. She appeared to be an interesting creature that is, he had really never ran into anyone like her. "Lost is never a good thing to be, especially when you are really near home, and when your home turns unfamiliar it isn't that great." He sighed quietly before turning to her once again. "I understand that feeling all too well..." His voice trailed shaking his head before turning toward her once again with his eye brow raised and a serious look on his face.
"I am a warrior miss." He paused his voice was stern and still very gruff tone. "I was raised by a warriors and she raised me through some tough conditions." He paused for a moment. "If I want to be a firekin why would I turn away in moments like this. I can be strong as the others. I heard you guys are warriors, tough, strong however also survivors. The desert is quiet a home." He looked at her once again. It was a true reasoning, why would he turn away at a moment like this. e wanted to prove himself a firekin.

"Be quiet, smart mouth." She huffed, in no mood for the teasing of a rogue, warrior or not.
"You would turn away if you value your life. Why seek death when our lives are already so short?" She turned away from him, casting her gaze across the golden, endless sea. She was not sure what would be worse. To remain here and die or to see the Firekin broken up and cast out to the grasslands. Strangely, she favoured the first option. She lived for her pride and without it, the life she had would be meaningless.
"I admire you for your tenacity but...it is also foolishness. I'm sorry. I have a job to do. Do as you please but don't say I didn't warn you." She began to move off - leaving perfect imprints in the sand - before pausing and casting a look over her shoulder.
"Where you came from, lion, is there water?"

Ahadi chuckled at the female's comments, he normally enjoyed teasing others. he found it amusing and the lioness didn't exactly seem angry at his teasing so he had a feeling that she was most of the way okay with that. Or at least she kind of seemed okay with that. "I'm not seeking death." He said simply before flicking his hair out of his eyes pausing for a moment before speaking again. "I don't see why you would turn me away when I can be possible help, with what ever is going on." He wasn't completely sure of what they wanted but either way, no matter what was happening he was very curious and really wanted to be involved anyway.
He watched her as she got read to walk away and he shook his head. Following behind her quickly shaking his head. "Now come on now. What fun are you?" He asked arching a brow at her cutting her off and then chuckling a little more. "How are you going to get through any tragedy with out having some humor?" He half grumbled, he was starting to get a little annoyed at her. He wasn't sure what he wanted but he wasn't exactly going to stop.
He paused and blinked at her question just slightly confused. "Well, yeah. It's running just a tiny bit dry, however it's still water."

"You can laugh." She snapped. "Because you don't have family and friends who face death. A death they can't fight. This isn't some enemy we can crush beneath our paws. This is nature! We can't win against that. We're..." She trailed, clamping her jaws closed. The whole situation had made her so angry and fired up. She'd felt ready to claw out the eyes of anyone who'd come near her since the gathering at the dens.
Now she was out here, playing at being a Water-seeker, even though she had no idea what she was doing.
Her shoulders sagged. "If you want good company, I can't give you that. Now, I'm going to do my job." Her new job, anyway. "You...just...do what you want." Her voice was curt and annoyed. "Your humour is wasted on me."
And she turned again, thinking again of exodus. Again of prioritising water. Again of the loss of her home. Despair bit down hard and refused to let go and as she walked, it was in a blind stupor. In her current state of mind, she was little more than useless.

Ahadi shook his head. He knew had had to be serious at this point he knew tha the had to face it and put his act away for a little bit. He was really hoping that she was willing to have him help her. He shook his head with a small chuckle before he started to wander over to her. He wandered up to her side and then moved quickly in front of her. He looked her in the eye before speaking bluntly and seriously. "Look, I'm sorry to hear about everything going on in your pride." He said simply shaking his head once again. He paused once again before nodding then speaking once again. "I really hate to hear about the state of the pride, but put me to work." He said simply motioning toward the female's pride.
At the moment he really was more than serious about the whole thing. He shook his head once again before backing up a little more. "I really am sorry to hear about your pride and I'm sorry that I stepped on your toes, however I really just want a home and this place is the best." He normally didn't speak like this often he didn't open himself up to many but there was one thing for sure and that was that he wanted to join this pride more than anything else. He wished that it could have been in better situations that he could have joined but on the other hand that wasn't the situation and he was going to have to deal with it. He nodded once again. "I want to join, what do I need to do. I want to help." He added stubbornly.

She growled and gestured in the direction she had come. "Fine. Look. If you want to die so badly I'm not going to stop you. Just follow my paw-prints back, they'll lead you to the borders. If the wind has taken them already just...keep going straight. Sooner or later a guard will pick you up. Just be prepared. You'll need to duel with a Firekin to gain membership." She snorted loudly, her eyes glancing over his form.
He was pretty big. Maybe he'd do all right.
Then, without another word and no goodbye, Fia trudged away from him, her dark shape moving down amongst the dunes and fading from sight. She had a lot of ground to cover before she would meet up with Vesta.

Ahadi was a little surprised by the female's reaction but yet she gave him the answer that he was looking for. He was going to have to duel another in the pride he was pretty sure that he was going to be okay with this. He had to make his way there and prove himself. He was hoping that after he did that he could find the female and show her that he could help. That would be interesting. He was pretty sure of it in his mind. He watched her walk away and he smiled for a moment before calling out to her. "Maybe we'll be working together soon!" He chuckled before turning toward the pride. He still had some traveling to do but at least he knew he was going the right way.
