Thysania had found a small patch of moon blossoms near the brook by her family's grove. She was dancing about among the flowers, enjoying the moonlight shining through the trees. He laughter was full of merriment.
The tiny mare paused for a moment to look up at the moon, fluttering her wings gently in the slight breeze. "It's such a perfect night..."

A small glowing eyeball led the way for the new foal in the dark of the night. He'd yet to grow used to the darnkess, and getting around at night seemed like an impossible task on his own. "Slow dooooown," Wem whined at the creature. It automatically slowed its pace, but it couldn't quite support itself in the air, and fell to the ground. The foal rolled his eyes and gingerly plucked his companion from the dirt and held it by one wing. "Just stay awake so I can see, all right?" The batty eyeball squirmed for a moment in discomfort before falling limp and acting as the colt's little lantern for the night.

Thysania startled, something was approaching her little patch of flowers. She turned to see a soft glow moving toward her, bobbing gently as if being carried. She stepped back, her wings fluttering nervously. Her father had warned her of beasts that would eat foals, she hoped a kalona, or worse...skinwalker, had not found her.
The filly ducked behind a near by tree, peering out to see what was coming closer. She was glad her coloring helped her blend in to the foliage around her.
When she saw the light was caused by a colt carrying a strange looking lantern, she couldn't help but laugh at herself. Forgetting that she was still hiding, she called out to him. "Hello? Are you lost?"

The foal jumped at the sound of the filly's voice, which caused him to drop his little creature. In response, Wem's companion took flight and made its way to the little flutter hiding in the bushes. It blinked a few times as it examined her. After feeling that the girl held no threat, it returned to its friend's side.
"Uh... Nope, not lost. Just exploring, y'know? My father told me that as long as I took my little eyeball here I could go out at night." He was exaggerating, of course. What his father really told him was to bring another, meaning an adult Soquili, with him if he was going to go wandering around at night. However, he wasn't nearly specific enough and Wem took it to his advantge. What bad things could happen at night anyway? "I'm Wemitan. You can call me Wem or Wemi if you'd rather, though."

Thysania jumped back at the eyeball, then stepped out of hiding to watch it fly back to the foal. She blinked a few times and looked at him, "What...is that?"
She stepped out into the moonlight, fluttering her wings gently. "My name is Thysania...my family lives in this grove. My daddy is the leader of our herd."
The small mare puffed out her chest, as if she was trying to show off. She tilted her head, curious about where he was from. "Have you traveled a long way in your exploring? Where did you come from? Was it far away?"

Wemitan laughed. "Oh, that? That's my little companion. My momma has a few of them, and she tells me that her father has bunches of them. My brother and sister each have one, too. But theirs have feathers. I like to call him Boo." He nosed the creature as it flew around his head.
His eyes widened at the word 'herd.' "I'm not going to be in trouble for being here, am I? I really hope that I'm not trespassing or anything. I can leave if I need to." The colt's heart began ro race.
He calmed a little at her question. "Well, I live in a teepee with my father and oodles of others. It's by the lake." Wem wasn't sure how long he'd been traveling. "This brook feeds into the lake that my teepee's on. I made sure to follow it so I wouldn't get lost. I'm not really sure how far away I am."

"It looks like a bat...but, strange," Thysania was trying not to stare at the creature. She looked at the colt, then shook her head. "No, you're not trespassing. I don't think we have a herd big enough to keep away others. It's mostly just my family..."
She thought about it, then bowed a little, "I welcome you to my family's grove."
Yup, that should do it, she thought. She looked at the stream, then at each direction. "Well, I'm not sure about the lake, but at the other end is a large waterfall. We don't go that far, but my older brother told be about it."
She walked over to him, inspecting him a little. Seeing his wings, she couldn't help but dance in place. "You're a flutter...like me! Oh, but you're not colored like the other flutters I've seen. Then again, I've only seen my family...and we all can blend into the trees. You're more like a big flower."

"Yeah... I don't think it eats, either. Or breathes. I really don't know how it's alive right now." He looked up at Boo as it squinted at the colt as if it were angry. Wem's eyes widened a little bit, and the creature retreated. "I don't even know if it's a boy or a girl. And thank goodness. I don't want to get into trouble. My daddy would kiiiiill me."
He smiled happily. "Why thank you, Thysania! You'll have to come see my teepee some time." He mispronounced her name a little, but hoped she hadn't noticed. It was one he'd never heard before.
A spark of couriosity rose in the colt's mind. A waterfall? He'd never seen one of those. In fact, he'd never even heard of one. "Well, we should go see it! It sounds new and exciting! And we've got Boo, who usually scares mean things away."
Wemitan looked back at his wings and fluttered them a little. "That's kinda cool. Only my daddy's a flutter. My momma has wings that are feathered, like a bird's. And she has a horn on her head, too. And I don't know why I look like a flower. My momma iss purple like me, and my daddy is all blue with orange hair. Neither of them have green anywhere, so I don't know why my wings are that color."

"Well, that's just weird," the filly giggled, looking at the winged eyeball. "i bet it's a boy though...cause your a boy. That would be...um..my daddy would say 'logical' way of thinking."
Thysania nodded, over-looking that he said her name wrong. Maybe if she had a nickname like he did. One of her older brothers had a shorter name he went by. "You can call me Sania is you like...and I'd love to see your teepee some time. I've never seen one."
She looked at Boo, then back at Wemitan, "Oh...I don't know. As long as were back before dawn, I guess it wouldn't hurt. I know the way, my older brother told me how to get there."
"Green?" She looked at his wings, then shrugged. "I think they're wonderful. Like new born leaves. At least they don't look like tree bark."

Wemitan thought about it for a moment. "Maybe... I guess that makes sense." He looked at Boo. Boo the boy. He liked it.
"Okay, Sania. That's way easier to say." The flutter laughed a little at himself. "They're kinda cool. They're these sticks that are stuck in the gound, and then they're like... Wrapped in the pelts of animals like deer. And they've got a flap in the front that can open and close, and that's where you go in and out. Our two-legger built it a long time ago."
The colt smiled excitedly before looking up at his creature. The eyeball gave Wem a disapproving look, but he didn't care. "Cool! Say... What is a waterfall, anyway?"
Wemitan furrowed his brow. "What's wrong with looking like tree bark? That's kinda cool if you ask me."

"Sticks in the mud? Animal skin?" the young mare tilted her head, then shook it. "I don't understand. What's a two-legger? My parents always say to run from them...but i don't know what they are. We live in a sort of...nest. My parents build it in the hallow of a very large tree."
Thysania moved toward the stream, going the direction against the flow. "It's where a river runs off a cliff. DW said it's very loud. He's been there a few times with his mate. He said you follow the stream to the river, then the river to the waterfall. The river isn't too far away...I've been there a few times with my mommy and daddy."
She was trying to show off again, but his question made her falter. She looked at her wings, then shrugged. "I guess it wouldn't hurt to have some color. Like the flowers. Even if I know it's so I can hide from scary things..."

Wemitan didn't quite know how to explain it. "Well. A two-legger is a being. It has four legs, but only walks on its back two legs, and it has paws with really long toes. And their claws are kind of soft instead of sharp. The one at my teepee takes care of my herd. It brushes us and braids our manes and tails, and it weaves and paints baskets when foals come. And it gathers food and builds fires for heat during the winter. And their faces are flat and they speak strange, strange words. But mine is nice. I hear some will try to capture our kind and use them to ride, but not mine."
The colt was still excited about their trip to this new thing he'd never seen before. "Really? That sounds cool!" He continued to ignore Boo, who continued to glare at him. "Say... Why are you up so late? Did your parents let you stay up to go exploring, too?"
"Yeah, but trees are kinda like flowers, if you think about it. And trees are there year 'round, so I think I'd rather look like a tree. I'm gonna look kinda funny when it's winter and I'm the only purple thing out there, you know?"

"That sounds really scary. Maybe that what Daddy says to be careful of them. I don't think I was meant to be ridden by some other creature," Thysania shuddered, her wings fluttering a bit. She looked at Wemitan, "You must be really lucky to have a nice one looking after your family."
She looked at the bat thing, then at the colt. "Oh, no....we're always up at night. My family is nocturtle. We sleep in the day time. That's why Mommy said to be home before dawn. Do you sleep in the day time too?"
She giggled at the thought, "But then, at least I'll be able to find my new friend."

The colt fluttered his wings as if to shrug. "Well, I dunno if they'd try to ride us. We're so little, y'know? But the first of our herd - Midori - made friends with the two-legger a loooong time ago. She lets the two-legger ride her when it requests it. Come to think of it, any of those who live at the teepee will let it ride them... Well, except for the ones with wings like ours. For some reason, we're smaller than the others and the wouldn't have anywhere to put their legs because of our wings."
Wemitan shook his head. "No, I've never even heard of sleeping in the day. Except for naps, we all sleep at night. But one of us always stays up at night to watch the teepee. Sometimes they sleep during the day. How do you see at night? I've got Boo, but without him I'd be lost."
The colt thought for a moment. Sure, he could consider her a friend. "Yeah, I guess so. But I'm kinda dark except for my hair and wings. How will you see me at night?" He had an idea. "You could come out in the day and have an adventure with me! It'd be kinda like what we're doing now."

Thysania shook her head. "Oh, no...I don't see very well in the day time. My eyes are made for the dark. I don't know how they are, they just are. My mommy and daddy's eyes are made for the night too."
She walked along the stream, hoping he'd follow. "We'd better hurry if we're going to make the waterfall before the sun comes up. Won't your parents worry if you're out all night?"
