How many people here also play, Dungeons and Dragons? If so, What version?

I only ask, cause it was brought up in another topic and I became curious.

I play 3.5
PostPosted: Thu Jun 23, 2011 2:06 pm

I play 3.5 mostly. I don't care much for 4.0 or 3.0. I'd rather 2.0 than either of those, but prefer sticking with 3.5 above all else. 3nodding

I like supporting roles, like being a cleric or bard. But I'll roll whatever's needed to balance the group usually. I also roll deep in Star Wars as a tech specialist. 3nodding

Haven't been able to play in quite a while though. The older I get, the fewer people I know that play. And in my current social circle, the typical response to discussing it is, "You played that?"

I miss long weekends, ordering pizza, staying up until the next day, all night laughing over peril, puzzles, and just having fun. heart

My husband and my table stick to version 2.0, but we have invested so much in those books before version 3 came out. sweatdrop Plus we just were too lazy to learn a whole knew system. But we have allot of the later edition books, plus a couple of awesome freeware edition conversion programs, so we have incorporated allot of the newer ideas.

Our table is full of old people, the ages being between 24 and 34. It's been a few months since we played though. Our people are starting to move off in their own directions (one of our couples just had a baby, another couple at are table are planning their wedding, and one of our guys left us for the NAVY). I recently reconnected with an old girlfriend of mine, and she and her husband still play, so we may have new opportunity. After October, we hope to have the newlyweds back.

I play mostly bards, fighters being a close second, but my favorite is my first character, my avariel mage.

My evil charaters are awesome. I have 2 that have actually lived through more than 1 campaigns. A bard and a mage, and I have so much fun playing them...

I also have a very psychotic CN mage I play on occasion, and somehow she has made it through 4 campaigns. Probably only because the DMs find her amusing (she makes their job easy. LOL)

I have found that it is impossible for me to play a truly Lawful character, so I stick to mostly Chaotic alignments.

I play 3.5 games. I really don't like what I've seen of 4.0. Never played 2nd edition but willing to give it a try.

I play mostly support characters or jack of all trades. I am very fond of the bard class. I'm second to either rouge or cleric, preferring cleric since I also like being a spell caster biggrin

I like playing as CG or NG character. I can't play lawful characters XD

I am noticing a trend here... no one likes to play a Lawful...

As for me, I am much in the same boat as rmcdra, I haven't really played 2 edition but are willing to play if someone is willing to teach...

I mostly play, warrior/spellcaster classes(Duskblade and Psychic Warrior) but I enjoy support roles... My all time favorite is is the Artificer.

I used to play D&D computer games. I can't remember what versions they used, but Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale are a couple of examples. I loved Neverwinter Nights the most though. Neverwinter Nights 2, I didn't care for as much, so whatever version Neverwinter Nights used would be my favorite.

I just looked it up, Neverwinter Nights is third edition.

I usually play a warrior or ranger. My alignment really depends on my mood, but I'm never neutral unless playing a druid. I play as chaotic good the most or chaotic evil, but have played as lawful good quite a few times. I like being a paladin, I just don't like others relying on me for heals.

So it seems most of our experience is in 2.0 or 3.5. Those are the best 2 systems to deal with anyway, I figure. 3nodding 2.0 is easy to learn, so it might be easier than having people learn 3.5. Even though I think 3.5 is the best system overall. But that's just for diversity.

Might be kind of fun to have an RP thread for something like this. There's a number of decent ways to make it work in forums. Just a thought.

I've tried to get people to roleplay under rules such as what D&D uses, but they weren't even willing to when we limited the rule to simply being "Whoever rolls higher with (sided dice) wins when two players get in a fight." They preferred to just free-fall it and decide based on whoever could think of the strongest attack without seeming like a godmodder....

Since we actually have people who have played D&D here and do use those rules, it may not be so difficult at all. I'm a bit to busy in the real world to keep up with it, but I'll read.

I'm not opposed to having an RP thread or an RP subsection, I just won't have time to moderate it. If someone would like to be mod and run it, they are more than welcome to do so. Just post in the moderator application or send me a PM. I have a pretty good feel for each of you who have posted so far in this thread and would not be opposed to having any of you as mods.

I'm a 3.5 guy myself.

I started on 4.0 base, but the group I played with played it like it was 3.5. We just went off the 4.0 character sheets. However, from what I've seen so far of it, I love 3.5.
Sky Weltall rolled 1 20-sided dice: 14 Total: 14 (1-20)
PostPosted: Fri Jun 24, 2011 12:04 pm

I think I'll apply for that. It's just that I seem to be staying up later and doing a lot of creative thinking anyway. There's dice rolling options for all appropriate dice in the forums, so mechanics shouldn't be an issue. I think the majority of people here are 3.5 current. But I think I can use the baseline system without making it confusing for anyone who's not. And it's forum RP, so not all of the rules will be enforced anyway. The idea is to moderate a system that's fun, not overbearing. So yeah, I'd like to take a hack at setting something up. 3nodding

It has been awhile since I even tried to DM, but I am willing to try again. Or I can see if a friend of mine wants to move his rp here... It would be play by post... ether way.

His game is a Renascence(sp?) fair like or at least what I understood of it...

edit: Also, just to let you know, there is a free online source that has mostly all of the core information. The someone would need the books for a few of the small stuff, like experience, levels and the like but I can get that site...

Awesome! I'm taking some initiative in setting up a forum for it. But depending on what anyone else has to contribute, I for one am completely willing to work with that. I enjoy playing or runnind DM. And thanks for sharing that link to all the core stuff. 3nodding

It is core, and a few add-ons that doesn't violate their ogl thingy... but you are welcome... I have a lot of books and are willing to help in any way I can. I would lean against, me being the dm, though I am willing to. But be warned my games are normally impulse. You may come a crossed sprite with a shotgun.

Also, a question comes to mind. are we just allowing dnd, or can their be none system games... like the ones in barton town?
