Attention Adventurers!

The Imperial Guard is looking for individuals willing to venture into the city sewers to locate and neutralise the source of some menacing Mudcrabs. The Crabs have been sighted in the city and there have been many complaints about their roaming. Something must be done, and the guard is far too stretched as it. So we implore the generous nature of some talented adventurers, please come forward and assist us and your city to resolve this matter as soon as possible.
Candidates should report the Imperial Guard barracks, we will grant access to the sewers once we feel safety in numbers has been reached.

Quest Description

Quest Giver: The Imperial Guard

Location: Imperial City.

Objective/Directions: Adventurers will start at the Imperial Guard's Barracks, in the Imperial city. The Guard will lead the group to one of the two entrances to the Market Sewers, in the Market District and unlock the way. From here the party will be expected to explore the sewers and find the source of the Mudcrab disturbance. They will find a collapsed tunnel leads into the Northern Sewers which is known to have an exit leading outside the city. From here the Group will begin to encounter Goblins which seem to be training the Crabs as pets. To eliminate the problem, they will have to kill the Boss Goblin, who is reported to wear a hallowed out crab shell on his head, in place of the usual ram/goat skulls Goblins wear. He is also supposidly trained a very large Mudcrab, which may also pose a threat.

Expected Resistance: Numerous Mudcrabs, approximately ten normal Goblins, two Goblin Shaman (miniboss), one Goblin Chief (Boss) and his giant Mudcrab pet (Boss).

Signed up:

1. Misthral (Tanna)

                                                  Active : None.

The mage’s dormitory in the Arcane University, located in the Imperial City of course, was quiet during late morning. In fact it only had one occupant at this time of the day, Tanna Felnaras. After ditching Marilien’s apparel in her usual safe place, late last night, Tanna had returned to the University, long after hours, to get some decent rest. Or as decent as a paranoid murderer, leading two different lives could get. Still she had managed to steal some sleep into the hours of mid-morning, but was now awake and sorting through her possessions. Tanna had returned to the University, sometime, after her quest to Fort Vlasturas, but this was the first chance she had been granted. Though, to the mages, she had just been on another of her long adventures, and most would assume she was lost through most of it. However today, she was going to go and find Velryn, she hadn’t seen him since before she left to find wine bottles, in a crumbling fort, full of vampires and other people trying to kill her. Which was the cause of her reason for avoiding the mages for a while, she had to wait for the wounds to heal, or try to explain them. Bruises were easy to explain, in fact the mages expected her to be covered in them, but wounds from weapons were harder to explain.

Tanna rose from the bed and brought the leather pouch, she had been carrying all this time, to the window and looked at the sparkling, ashy contents in the light. The fact was Tanna hadn’t experimented with Vampire dust in alchemy before, nor did she own any books that could give her any idea what to do with it. Velryn on the other hand, was more knowledgeable about the skill than her, and aside from that, far more interested in it that her. Alchemy was a useful skill to her, to him it appeared to be an enjoyable hobby, so he might even pay well for some of the dust. Or at the very least he could give her an idea of what to do with it. Also on some level, though she would never admit it, Velryn was probably her favourite person to socialise with, while she was leading her life as Tanna at least. The Bosmer pulled on the pouch strings and then deposited her prize in her pack, she then swung said pack over her shoulder and left the dormitory, but not before plucking out her book on the last Ayleid King. Tanna found if she read her books while walking, people were more inclined to give her a wide berth, and not try to engage in conversation.

However, some mages couldn’t resist the urge. ”Hey Tanna, you watching where you are going?” Tanna paused, and lowered the book, she wanted to throw a scornful look in the mouthy ones direction, but instead forced an embarrassed expression onto her face. ”Sorry, did I step on your toes?” The other mage blinked, ”uh no, anyway. How was the adventurer? Did you manage to find the door to an Ayleid ruin this time? Or did you take a wrong turn and end up in Bravil again?” Again the Bosmer painted her face with a abashed expression, though she was fighting the urge to glare at him, if only she could tell him what she had REALLY been up to. ”Oh no! I found it this time. There were some nasty imps inside though, perhaps I should ask someone from the Fighter’s guild to come with me next time. Then I might not have ended up in Skingrad on the way home… But never mind! I must go. Bye.” She placed her gaze back on the pages of her book and ignored the mouthy one’s laughter. They could laugh all they wanted, they didn’t know the truth.

Tanna began her search in the places where she would expect to find the alchemist. When she finally found him, she took the leather pouch containing the Vampire dust and snuck up on Velryn. Not hard for an apprentice of sneaking, and not entirely impossible for a ditzy mage, just improbably, but that would probably just improve the surprise. Inches behind him, and with the leather pouch strings slung over her wrist, she clapped her hands together and said, ”Hey Velryn! I brought you something to look at. I got it from a ‘merchant’ on the road, not sure he was a very good merchant though, he sold it really cheap.” When he seemed to have gotten over his surprise, if he was surprised at all, Tanna dropped the leather pouch into his hands and awaited his verdict.

((ooc: Tanna and Velryn are meeting up at the University before going on to the Barracks, you can meet them there if you are a mage. Otherwise head to the Barracks, they will be there shortly.))

While normally not a tardy person, Velryn had plum forgotten where he should have been preparing to go to. The dunmer, with his alchemy apron in place, was once again at his favourite alchemy bench in the Arcane University laboratories designated for the purpose of potion (and poison) crafting. Situated beneath a window and surrounded by shelves and cupboards of equipment and regents, he could and often did lose himself for hours contemplating volume, dilution, flashpoint, potency and experimental mixtures--in essence, the various aspects of his art. So, when Tanna (showing a remarkable amount of stealth for someone as clumsy as she was presumed to be) came behind him while he was absorbed in a rather acidic project, the results... well.

"Hey, Velryn!"

His hand jolted as he started, and the phial held by a slim wrought iron tripod was struck: it fell over, onto the table, and a corrosive scent filled the air, accompanied by a low sizzling. Velryn cursed and leapt back as some of the acid landed on his boots. They were an old, cobbled pair he wore just for this purpose, so he had them off in a moment and, with precision and composure, he swept up a second phial from the table and poured it over the mess as it began to eat away at the table and pool on the stone floor. The contents neutralized the acid, and he tipped some onto his boots, as well.

"Sorry," he apologized to Tanna, finally able to turn his attention to her he used an old rage to clean up the space. He offered a quick grin. He couldn't be mad at her, or even irritated. "Don't feel bad. This isn't the first this has happened to me. It's not as bad as it seems," he added, in case she was discomfited. When the puddles were mopped up, he tided his gear away into a cupboard and hung up his apron, then came to face her. "You brought me something?" he was curious, and when she offered him the pouch he took it to inspect. The story seemed a little troublesome, had Tanna been conned?

"Vampire dust?" he murmured lowly, scarlet eyes wide. "It's real... thank you for bringing it. This has some very interesting effects, you know--it can silence, or cure diseases, and even make one invisible if treated properly. I am amazed you encountered someone willing to sell it! We should go see if he is still there, this would be very useful to have more of," he said, and the dunmer seemed about to go on explaining the merits of the regent when he stopped, and looked quizzically at Tanna. The expression on his face grew inward, trying to recall some vital bit of information. "Wait. I was going to do somewhat else today," he said slowly. Then Velryn grimaced.

"The sewers!" He shook his head. "Alright, we need to hurry, I need to go and fetch my armour and blades, are you possibly ready to go?" he asked, rapid-fire, as he made for a supply cabinet marked Sarano. "If you're not opposed, we could lock the dust up in here for now and come back later to discuss it." He looked inquiringly at Tanna, hoping she would agree.

Tanna inspected her boots while he looked over the pouches content, she was slightly worried that he might have splashed acid on her, fairly, new boots, but they seemed unscathed so she turned her attention back to him. ”Well I can’t be the only clumsy person, can I? I’m used to it. Sorry I scared you.” She looked remorseful, but really the whole incident had been rather funny to her, baring possible acid mutilation to her new footwear. She would definitely try it again in the future, though maybe not when he was handling possibly hazardous chemicals. Tanna listened intently as he explained quickly some of the properties of Vampire dust, the silence and invisibility traits perked her interest the most, but she also noticed the tenor of disbelief in his tone. Did he doubt her story, or was it something else, she began to wonder if showing him the supposedly hard to attain reagent was a bad idea. ”I don’t think he will still be there… Oooh maybe he was a vampire hunter!” She exclaimed, with a bit too much excitement, of course it was amusing to her how that explanation was technically true, not that it was modest to title herself a vampire slayer after only a few encounters. ”How fascinating, I should have asked… Oh well.”

Tanna was again paying attention to what Velryn was saying, but was fairly disappointed that the topic had moved from Vampire dust, the whole reason she had come to speak to him. ”The sewers? Why do you need to go there?” She asked, cocking her head to one side. Tanna had also wanted to demand why he seemed to be assuming she was going too, but that would come across as rude. She blinked at him, expression rather blank, while trying to absorb what he had rushed to say. ”You want me to come too?” She titled her head to the other shoulder and considered her answer. She had come to seek out Velryn to find out more about Vampire dust, or possibly sell it to him. Only now Velryn seemed to want to arm himself and head into the sewers for some reason he had yet to explain, and he wanted her to go. She could decline but either way her source of information was going it seemed, as she watched him collect his things. ’Why does everything always go s**t…” she wondered bitterly, but decided it might not be terrible to go with him. She could help and then they could get back to business, except she couldn’t really help too much… Her head switched sides again, leaning over the first shoulder once more. But if she went she could quiz him on Vampire dust more, and doing something was better than sitting around and doing nothing.

”Um, ok, as long as you promise to tell me everything about Vampire dust.” She asked, and nodded her acceptance. She ignored how thrilled he seemed and followed him to the Imperial Guard’s Barracks, hoping to hear more about the nature of this trip to the sewers.

Coraline lifted her head off of the open book that rested on the end of her bed. The page she was read was sticking to her cheek put peeled off as soon as her face left the pages. Blinking a few times to adjusted her eyes to the sun's light, she glanced around the room see that the other students had already left for the day's studies. It was her own fault she had stayed up late reading. She blinked a few more times trying to realize why she was so exited for today. ''
It's not my birthday is it?'' she thought as a figure passed her, still too groggy from over sleeping to realize what day it was.. The person was leaving the dorm. Not paying much attention to whomever it was leaving, she pushed herself up as her mind snapped to it. ''Oh crap! That's today!'' she pronounced happily. Though slightly worried that she might be late.

She quickly pushed herself up, resting on her knees, she closed the book and rubbed off any ink that was on her cheek with her bare palm that she licked. Once she felt safe enough to walk around without being mocked for having backwards letters on her face, she threw her clothes on. Removing her Mage's Robes she started to dress herself in her own attire she preferred. Her long boots were the first things she slipped on followed by her short black dress. Gloves were next. The two flimsy pieces of cloth slipped on easily and her fingers went through the holes without trouble. Her belt was quickly buckled on her waist and her feet were pattering down the stairs, her two blades swinging violently as she rushed outside.

It was almost blinding the first time she got outside. The bed in the dorm wasn't facing towards the window so barely any light broke into her small corner. But with her hand shielding her eyes and squinting, she looked around to see if the other mages had already convened and decided to leave without her. She wasn't usually allowed to go on these quests because of her age and lack of experience, but one of the Wizard's objected to her being turned away and said that if she was going to get experience that she need to go out there and get it hands on. So with permission to accompany the party Coraline was going to make sure she wasn't going to mess this up. And it was only mudcrabs in the sewers. It wasn't like she was going up against Daedra.

She looked around for the other few mages who signed up for this. Though she couldn't remember their names but she would recognize them if she say their faces. The only remember that one of them was an Alchemist. And his name was weird, not for a Dunmer. She started to think of the lore of the Dark Elves as she made her way for the lab. It always gave her a headache whenever she went in there. All those concoctions brewing, their smoke bellowing and protruding from wherever they could. It smelled more like death to her then an actual corpse did. It was vile and disgusting. But hopefully she would only have to be in there for a few moments.

She got up to the Lustratorium and was contemplating of actually going inside. It only took a second before her excitement over took her hesitation. The door opened up and she walked inside. She didn't have to look around too long till she caught the sight of the dark elf she was looking for. As she made her way up to him Coraline was catching their conversation. ''
Are you joining us?'' she asked the more light skinned elf girl who had the most beautiful purple eyes Coraline had ever seen, seemed to be conversing with the alchemist. Coraline was smiling at the girl. She wasn't like how people assumed Altmers to be; proud and snobbish. Though, the whole party thing wasn't clear to her. In truth Coraline wasn't completely sure who was exactly on the team, just that it was her and Dunmer. She wasn't exactly in the loop of information. Just that she was only allowed to go because the mission wasn't difficult and there was another mage who already signed up to accompany her.

Velryn was grateful for her cooperation. "It'll be safe here, I promise you, I store most of my regents here." He locked the pouch of dust away and returned to her, leading the way from the room towards the door. "And I apologise, I forgot to tell you. A friend and I signed up to help clear away some issue with the sewers, mudcrabs and such--maybe some goblins. He, unfortunately, took ill, so now it is just me going," he said, with a shrug. "If you want to join me, though, I'd appreciate the company. Besides, there may be a little something to it for our efforts, and it's just mudcrabs and goblins." He smiled broadly at Tanna.

Since she seemed open to the idea, he patted her shoulder fondly. "I will do better than that, with the dust. I will copy the recipes I have in my journal for you, and you can decide for yourself what you would want to see it made into. I can try my hand at it, do my best job, and because we are friends it will, of course, be free of charge. If you're worried about debt," he added, since he wasn't sure if she was the sort to fret about that, "consider it a favour in turn for coming with me to the sewers."

He was approaching the door when it opened, and a blond slip of a girl entered. He studied her curiously and was surprised when she came towards them. He glanced once to Tanna, then back to the stranger. "I'm Velryn, and this is my friend, Tanna. We'll be heading off soon for the sewer job. I just need to run and strap on some chainmail and grab my sword, then we can all head down to the Barracks," he told them both. "I'll be quick! Just wait here a few." Without waiting for permission, he dashed off, his form becoming an abrupt blur as he left for his dormitory. When he chose to, Velryn could move very, very quickly, a combination of natural speed and the blessing of his birth sign.

He soon reached the privacy of his small room, more closet than bed chamber. Conditioned to swift changes and preparations from over a decade of caravan-living, Velryn shucked his alchemist's wear in exchange for the padded under-tunic and sturdy trews he wore beneath his as-of-yet unused new suit of chainmail, which fit like a dream as far as he was concerned. He gathered his hair back into a short tail before he strapped on his baldric with its back-sheath for his longsword and donned the broad belt that carried his daggers and knives. He decided against a cloak, and chose his good traveling boots for the occasion. Then he started back, hoping he hadn't irritated Tanna or the stranger by keeping them over-long...

(So, if your ladies want to have a little chat while he is off changing, feel free to do so! Whoever wants to can mention Velryn's return in their post after a bit of conversation has passed, and perhaps you can shuffle the group over to the barracks?)

Balamaethor "Bale" Calminaion
Ranger- Apprentice of the Fighter's Guild
Imperial City, Talos Plaza District- Tiber Septim Hotel

Health: Perfect
Magicka: Perfect
Fatigue: Perfect
Status Effects: None

Bale sat at a table in the Tiber Septim Hotel, a mug of mead in his hand and a now-empty plate of food in front of him. Scraps of meat, cheese and bread, as well as an apple core, sat on the plate. He was trying not to think about the mission he was about to undertake- Mud Crabs. He was going to be killing Mud Crabs. A creature that even the smallest of children in Skyrim could kill by the time they could walk, and yet the people of the Imperial City were terrified of them.

He wasn't too surprised, though. He didn't like the people of the Imperial City, or really in the Nibenay Basin in general. They were decadent people who couldn't fight their way out of a wooden box, and the way the Imperial Watch coddled them, he thought that they'd at least be able to hand a few damn Mud Crabs. But apparently the Guard was too busy chasing some criminal known as the "Gray Fox" that may or may not even exist.

He sighed, and downed the rest of his mead. Standing up, he slung the harness holding his claymore, bow and quiver back on, placed a few Septims on the table, and walked out. He had to go to the Imperial Guard Barracks, over in the city prison- a place he had been to a few times for some minor assault charges.

Tanna nodded swiftly as Velryn locked away the Vampire dust, she knew it would be safe, even if someone broke into his store they wouldn’t get far without punishment, Marilien would see to that. Then she listened to his explanation of what his, their, trip to the sewers would entail, while occasionally tipping her head over one shoulder and then the other. As he explained, Tanna couldn’t help but think she had made the wrong decision, not because helping him was a bad idea if it got him back here to forward her goal, but because the nature of this quest meant she could have resumed her other alias and then the quest would have been dealt with much sooner. However as he began to explain how he would reward her for helping, she resigned herself to going through with the quest as Tanna, after all, if Marilien showed there would be no way to tell him that, Tanna was still the one helping him, and therefore, she would forfeit his end of the bargain. ’Yes… just Mudcrabs and Goblins, hardly a worthy target…’ she thought bitterly, but then again if she was to keep up her appearance, Mudcrabs and Goblins would have to be a worthy target. ”I hope your friend gets better soon,” she said a bit absent minded, as if the strangers welfare was what had captured her attention more than anything. Then she shook her head, seeming to snap back to the present, ”Oh, and thank you Velryn, I would appreciate that, greatly. You’re an excellent teacher.”

Just then the door opened and Tanna could not resist the urge to turn and face the newcomer, some habits were hard to kill but at least this one was not unusual. ”Um yes, I guess I am,” she said while catching that the girl was staring at her face and Tanna wondered why, perhaps it was the facial tattoo or the eyes, strangers often gave her face a good look over. But Tanna didn’t really enjoy the attention, it made her uneasy, so she turned away and looked back at Velryn, who spoke next to the mage-child. ”Don’t be long Velryn,” Tanna said in a sweet voice to his rapidly disappearing form. When he was gone, Tanna looked at Coraline and then away again, she was never comfortable around children, never knew what to say to them. Instead she turned her attention back to the shelf she had left her book upon entering Velryn’s hideaway. Tanna opened her book on the last Ayleid King and turned to the page she had been reading. ”So, are you sure the sewers are a good place for a youngster to be exploring?” Tanna asked without looking up from the current page she was scanning. She felt it wise, though she didn’t want to, to try and keep up her appearance of being sociable, even if continuing to read her book was a little rude, but not unknown, for Tanna. Every mage knew she liked her books, especially on the Ayleids, and it wasn’t an hard vocation to take part in, even Marilien liked expanding her knowledge.

Noticed the trio of apprentices chatting away as he passed by, having stopped over in his dorm from the library to grab his alchemical pouch and his weapons, the sword fitting inside the hollow quarterstaff like a sheath for when he needed the twin weapons to be compact. It was unusual for one to use a sheath as a weapon in itself, but Zel had rarely been one for typical behavior regardless. Zel had word after one of the "alchemy" parties in the dorms that one of the regulars became particularly intoxicated and was unable to attend a mission in the Imperial sewers. Zel had requested to fill in his shoes and was promptly accepted.

Strange as it may sound, Zel knew the layout of the sewers like the back of his hand. What he lacked in the ability to disappear in plain sight he made up for in secret passageways in and around the city. Why slow down and creep in the shadows when one could simply jump into a well and skip one's merry way in confidence of solitude while humming a soft tune? The Altmer had seen his fair share of creepy crawlies in those dark recesses, but a nice, hot bolt of magma typically sent them on their way. Overall, he was a strong addition to any expedition down there, and who knows, maybe he could even find something new. It was always an exciting possibility.

Zel made his way through the University, tossing the regular small-talk to friends, mentors and guards, with the occasional flirt to a memorable passer-by. Oh, college. They were all the same, really, be it the Academus Curatora or the Arcane University: Home to all walks of life except for those physically incapable of irritating you in some way, shape or form.

He had yet to receive knowledge of any of his companions so he simply made his way to the barracks, hoping he could find someone either on the way or once he arrived. The thought of being surrounded by nothing but Imperial Guards was just a tad unsettling.

Her age was an obvious fact she had to deal with. This was one of the few times Coraline had talked with Tanna, but almost every time was about her age. It almost made her upset that people kept bringing it up. ''
At some point in time you were my age too.'' her voice was lower then usual. Not at a whisper but a few tones down from her usual high pitch voice. It hit a nerve when Tanna called her a ''youngster'' and that killing some mudcrabs might be too dangerous for her. Sure the sewers had a bit of a sketchy reputation with giant rats, mudcrabs, bandits lurking here and there and the occasional goblin. But Coraline saw it fit for her talents.

                                                  ''
Hey what are you reading?'' she asked as she maneuvered around to read the title of the book. Though without any luck she wasn't able to get sight of it. As elusive as Tanna was being with her nose stuck in a book, Coraline was determined to get a reply or two out of her new companion. She seemed fond on the Dunmer though. What's his name... she pondered as she let Tanna read for a few seconds. Velryn! Yeah that's it. I'm sure it is! she snapped her finger and wiggled her index finger back and fourth sagely and her head bobbed forward a few times in the same motion. A small smirk of happiness and being pleased with herself quickly vanished as she remembered the Bosmer reading.

                                                  ''
So how did you get that tattoo?'' she was starting to point out the obvious, she was young and her attention span was dwindled with anticipation for the quest at hand. Though in admiration she admitted ''l like it though. lt's not like some of the sailor's. They have only anchors and mermaids.'' Coraline was fascinated in Tanna. Not only was her tattoo something to be curious about but the color of her iris were also not common either. But she started to catch herself when she found out how much she was speaking. Almost as if a zipper had magically appeared on her lips and sealed them she peered around the room.

Seeing the alchemical calcinators, retorts, alebemic and mortal and pestles laying around, she thought back of her father's small lab he held in shed outside. ''
So do you practice Alchemy?'' she again asked, but not in a rushed voice, but more of a calm tone that was trying to carry on a conversation or small talk. She figured if she started off too quickly and rushed then calming down would be the best way to get back onto Tanna's good side, if she ever left it. Coraline was trying to act more mature. To seem that this mission wasn't too hard for her. That she was ready to adventure into the sewers with them.

Tanna refrained from smirking at what Coraline said first, oh yes she had been fifteen once and what a fun time that had been. Still Tanna doubted the training methods of the Mages guild were as effective as the methods she was put through, therefore she still couldn’t see a fifteen year old in the sewers being much help. Then again, she should probably not keep voicing her opinion, after all, Tanna wasn’t supposed to be the best fighter either. ”It’s about the last of the Ayleid Kings, it’s a fascinating subject. I’d like a chance to see the old artefacts sometime,” she tilted the book slightly to the show the cover and then resumed her reading position. Her interest in the Ayleid’s was genuine, after all, Marilien had replicated their weapon designs twice now. But she had yet to replicate anything from the era of that final dynasty. One eyebrow shot to her hairline when Coraline snapped her fingers, Tanna even eyed her over the rim of her book, but then the child asked about her tattoo and face set into a disapproving expression. She hated when people asked her about that, she couldn’t exactly tell them the truth, ”I got it back home in Valenwood,” she didn’t offer an explanation, it was hard to think of one because Bosmer weren’t know for facial tattoos. Her Dunmer master had marked all of his slaves with the same mark and his reason was because he wanted his slaves to be reminded of who they belonged to, every time they saw their reflection. Now it served the purpose of instilling a burning hatred in the Bosmer, every time she passed something reflective.

Tanna focused on her book again, taking pleasure in the fact the child seemed to have stopped babbling questions. It was becoming too hard to keep up appearances when the child asked all the wrong questions of her, not intentionally obviously, no one knew she was hiding something. But these uncomfortable questions, the ones she had no real plausible answer to, were hard to deal with, luckily it seemed like Coraline was becoming more interested in Velryn’s now unoccupied workstation. ”A bit, I’m not as good as Velryn though,” she answered and then glanced at the door, ”he is taking a while, isn’t he.” Tanna hoped he would return soon, and she was a little annoyed he had left her with a mage-child.

The Dunmer rushed back through the halls, down the steps and along the walkways back to the Laboratory. He slowed as he approached the door, and overheard the end of Tanna's conversation with the girl whose name he hadn't yet learned. "I'm far from an expert on the subject," he interjected, "but if you do need help with anything alchemical I'd be happy to help. In the meantime, ladies, I think we should get going so we aren't late." He surreptitiously looked at one and then the other, inwardly hoping they were prepared and had everything they would need. He had spent the evening prior whetting and oiling his blades, and had a potion or three tucked at his belt in case something happened.

Not that he wasn't capable of some minor Restorative spells, but you never knew...

Once more, he wondered about the capability of the Imperial Guard as he beckoned for Tanna and the small blond to follow him. Were they really so short-staffed that they needed to reach out to local Guilds for assistance, or was the job beneath them? Was it simply a cheaper option? Whatever the case, it was not his first pick of activity and he wouldn't have truly considered the sewer job if not for the pleas of a friend who, now, couldn't even participate.

At least he had Tanna to keep him company. And he could see how she fared, and get a feel for how they worked together. The job wasn't entirely without merit. "So, off to the Prison we go," he announced, and led the way to the University gates. "Also, I never caught your name," the Dunmer said, slowing to keep pace with the Altmer so she could answer.

The book Tanna was holding was still a mystery title to Coraline. She started thinking of the books an elder wizard could be reading that they didn't want to share with a novice in the art. Though as quickly as her attitude just wanted to rip the pages from Tanna's hands to find out what it was she was reading, she spoke and tilted the cover so she could read the title. It was some book Coraline hadn't checked out yet. Though as soon as Tanna told her it was about the last of the Ayleid Kings. With the little bit of Ayleid knowledge she possessed, she tried to keep going with that subject. It seemed to interest Tanna most out of the ones she started up quickly. ''
l saw a Welkynd Stone in a store once. l asked the merchant how much he wanted for it but he told me it was only for decoration.''

The conversation droned on slowly. As best as Coraline attempted to make small talk with Tanna, Tanna was attempting to not make a conversation with Coraline. Or so it seemed to her adolescent mind. Though being young makes you stubborn. Though she learned to not push people into doing things they didn't want to do. It would be easier to just let the older mage read her book. But Tanna did raise a good point, it was taking the third member quite some time. If he was only getting his supplies it should have only taken him a few minutes. The Arcane University was exactly like the rest of the city, it was rather small. But well protected.

                                                  ''
He is. But it's more bonding time right?'' she gave a half grin. Rocking back and forth on the heels of her feet she waited for the Dunmer to come back and collect them. And it didn't take too much longer till he was walking through the door, giving a trained response to Coraline's question of if Tanna was a practitioner of alchemy. ''l don't practice it. My father does though. l don't mean to be offensive but l found it boring, but l do see the benefits of it.''

The Dark Elf started to lead the way to the Imperial City Prison and most unlike their other companion, he seemed willing to be conversational. ''
I'm Coraline.'' she replied. Coraline knew now she was at a fork in the conversation. She could either go one of two ways. The polite way: ask him for his name, even though she figured it out because of some of the other mages have spoken about him. In a positive way though she figured. She didn't know of too many mages who held grudges against each other. It was common for some to not get along though fore they were only humanoids. Or she could go the smart a** route and tell him his name for him. It seemed rude to be that way but it would give them the perspective that she was ready for a mission such as this. But she could do it politely. Like say she figured it out because of his reputation and word around the academy. ''And you're Velryn, aren't you?'' she said and asked both in the same sentence. ''l've heard about you before. From other mages.'' her feet skipped here and there to keep up with the adults.

When Velryn entered the alchemy labs again Tanna’s violet eyes looked up from her book to study his flustered appearance, she’d experienced many times when changing her appearance quickly was necessary, but she’d done so with far more composure than him. Still the fact he had returned brought relief, now someone else besides herself could entertain the child. Or at least Coraline would have someone else to direct her questions at. As they conversed about alchemy, Tanna closed her book, but not without listening in on their exchange, ”yes, it is most useful. I dabbled a bit before coming here but the University’s facilities are quite remarkable. But I’m sure Velryn knows more about that than I do, he seems to spend a copious amount of time here.” She gestured at the room they were standing in as she finished speaking, then smiled briefly and set about finding space in her bag for the book she was reading. But then she pulled the book out again and made a face, ”actually, do you think anyone would mind if I left this here. I don’t want to smell sewer when I finish reading it later.” She grimaced at the thought and handed the book over the Velryn who she hoped would find a safe place for it. She also thanked her luck that she’d stashed all of her other equipment in a safe place of her own. Now she carried very little that would weigh her down

The Bosmer nodded when Velryn asked if they were ready, she really wanted to add, ready as I ever will be to explore the sewers, but she figured complaining about it wouldn’t help. Instead she followed Velryn and Coraline from the alchemy labs, and on to the Imperial Watch’s barracks. She was mostly not listening to their conversation, until it appeared she was being included again. ”It’s hardly surprising you know our names, Velryn told you before he went to get changed.” She realised after she said it that it was probably rude, well it was rude, ”sorry, I guess I’m just not too thrilled at the moment, what with us going to explore sewers.” The Bosmer grimaced again, had she really agreed to do this, slogging through waste, Mudcrabs and Goblins is hardly something she ever expected to be forced to do, let alone willingly. ”Do you know who we need to talk to Velryn?” she asked as they drew closer to the prisons and Watch barracks.
