Character Name: Peradan
Age: 19 Turns
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft/Rank: Apprentice Vintner
History: Peradan's history has been rather average, if a bit spoiled. Her father and mother met when they were both Journeymen in the Vintner Hall, drawn together by a mutual love of wine and a desire to better the stock that was currently being produced. They rushed into marriage rather rapidly, but both kept at their Craft, even after giving birth to their first child, a son. Three Turns later, Peradan's father achieved his Mastery, while her mother gave birth to Peradan, the last of their children. They stopped at two, unwilling to let their careers slow down anymore for something as petty as a child.
The family lived in peace together for only two short Turns. They always had a somewhat uneasy dynamic, but they had been loving, so it came as somewhat of a shock when Peradan's mother left with another man, leaving the Vintner Hall before she could ever advance in rank, and leaving behind a five Turns old son and a daughter of but two Turns. She returned, however, every year, so Peradan managed to see her mother at least once, and eventually relations between her two parents cooled enough to where they could be civil towards one another.
Peradan's childhood was fairly mundane from there on out. She played well with the other children and went into her father's craft at twelve Turns. She didn't have much of a choice in the matter, but it was interesting work none the less, and she never did resent her parents for not allowing her the choice. Her brother was only a few Turns ahead of her, and he could help his younger sister when she faltered, though he did not often deign to do something as uncool as hanging out with a younger sibling. He had an image to maintain, after all.
When she was seventeen, Peradan's brother walked the tables and became a Journeyman, his posting taking him to cold Bitra. He was still close enough to his sister to send letters and visit in his limited free time, but it was rather lonely in her family without him. Her father was constantly busy, and Peradan scarcely less so herself. It still would have been nice to have him though.
Close to walking the tables, Peradan became intrigued with Weyr life, and with the atypical dragons. Could she leave everything behind to become a Candidate? Turns out, the answer was yes. She has just been Searched less than a sevenday ago, at the time of writing this.
Description: The first thing people inevitably notice about Peradan is her smile. It is not a spectacular one, but stands out for being gap toothed- the slightest difference between her two front teeth makes all the difference in the world. It’s a comfortable smile that shows fairly often, and doesn’t seem capable of anything other than guile and good humor. The gap is treasured- Peradan would not have it changed for the world, even if the Pernese were capable of such dentistry. And don’t you dare make fun of her for it.
The lips that surround those teeth are heart shaped and feminine, though her mouth is a little too wide to be immediately appealing to most people. When she smiles, they get rather thin and seem to vanish in the wake of her teeth. Those same lips are slightly dark in hue, making Peradan look as if she’s wearing some lip stain even when she isn’t.
The rest of her face is far from extraordinary. Her features are even and her cheek bones fairly distinct, but they are so uniform as to make her rather boring. It's the mouth that dominates, distracting even from her hazel eyes. Then again, it isn't a spectacular hazel- rather subdued, though framed by dark lashes and thin, dark brows. Her eyes could even be said to be slightly on the small side, though that's more illusion caused by smiles in good humor crinkling them up and furrowing her brow.
In coloration, she is as many Pernese- dark haired with tanned skin, though it appears pale in contrast to her chocolate hair, nearly black during the colder months, and lightened only by the most persistent sunshine. Peradan keeps her hair midlength, just brushing the tops of her breasts, often left loose when relaxing, but always tied back when working. It has large, natural waves, getting frizzier depending on the weather. Short hair would not suit her- or so she says. It is surely one of her great vanities, as it is for many women. She favors deep burgundy for her hair ties, and for her clothing- a reflection of her craft, perhaps. It doesn't hurt that it seems to look good on her.
Peradan stands around five feet, five inches- average for a woman, and unremarkable. She is neither tall nor short- she is merely there. In a line up she would be in the middle, wedged between those tall and those short. Her body size is fairly average as well- there is definition between her waist and her hips, but her body type would best be described as athletic, with muscling visible in her arms and legs. Her breasts are mid sized, perhaps slightly more than a handful, if you have small hands. If she does not at least spend some time working out, or if she spends some time eating more than she should, Peradan gains weight easily, and it shows on her behind and hanging awkwardly on her hips. She does not take the extra weight well, but she also looks less than appealing if she loses weight. It's a delicate balance.
All in all, Peradan reflects a pretty picture, but one that would cause the viewer to glance twice, unless they see her smile. She's learned to stand out in other ways, simply because at this point she knows that blossoming into a stunning creature will not happen. Ah, isn't life hard?
Personality: Capable. That's the best way to describe Peradan. She takes responsibility for things whether or not it's actually needed, and has a tendency to butt her head into places she doesn't exactly belong, announcing that everyone should just leave, because she's 'got this'. Yes, she is a capable woman and she can handle things... but you don't always need her either. Still, if you ever need Peradan's help, she's more than happy to step in and offer assistance and just about taking over things. And even if you don't, she's there. 'Nosy' and 'obtrusive' would both be good ways to describe it.
Along the same line, she has a dominant personality without being an overtly overbearing person [most of the time]. She's just one of those people who you look to and expect to take over a situation, making it extremely awkward when she has no clue what to do. She is only a teenager, after all, and heavy responsibilities can make her chafe just like they do for any young woman, even one well trained in craft responsibilities. Given her oftentimes laid back attitude, it's strange, but there you go. People are strange, and Peradan tries not to get too worked up about things. It's not that they don't bother her- they do. It's just that she knows they won't get anything done by making a fuss out of it. You catch more flies with honey, even if it is more fun to catch them with vinegar.
Peradan is also a good humored girl...But again, there are exceptions to that. She takes her work dead seriously, and if you ******** it up, she will get angry at you. Sure, it's an anger overlaid with sweet words and concerned tones, but don't mistake her for being anything other than furious. Just because she's laying the honey out does not mean she's put away the vinegar. You don't goof off on the job while she's watching, and you don't take needless risks for trivial matters. Wine can spoil too easily for people to be rash, and apprentices shoving each other and jostling the wooden storage containers can spoil a fine wine that's been fermenting for two Turns. Endless hours of work vanished in the air- poof! How this will translate to life in the Weyr remains to be seen, as Peradan has no clue what her responsibilities will even be. Dragons and wine don't seem very similar, making her frequently uncomfortable.
She's also an insatiably curious girl, going along with poking her nose into things that don't belong. There is nothing that is not interesting in daily life, and nothing that gets past her sharp eyes to become some personal mystery. Peradan is like the plucky girl detectives of yore- or plucky girl reporter, with sass to match.
Still, off the job Peradan is generally a fun person to be around, laughing at jokes and supplying her own, even if they're inevitably not the best. Humor seems to come secondarily to her, even if she's easily amused. It's like she still has to learn what exactly it is, and she frequently foils her attempts to do so by overanalyzing what makes a joke funny.
In her personal life, Peradan was a bit spoiled, perhaps. Her father had done well in the field she was in, and had made enough marks to keep his daughter in good clothes and good companionship. Consequently, she had a thirst for only the nicest of objects- jewelry, rich velvets, and, of course, fine wines. Alright, so she had a very spoiled childhood. Again, how this will play out in the Weyr has yet to be seen. Peradan still seems to expect things to fall easily into her lap.
She's vain too, when not working. She can sacrifice her vanity for that, but only for that. When off the job, she dresses well, with clothes that fit what curves her body has, and that set off her good features. Her dalliances with men have been infrequent at best- Peradan needs a consistent partner that can stimulate her mentally and keep up with her physically, and her overly high standards have kept few from entering her heart [girl is picky].
Like many other Pernese, Peradan is intelligent, with especially sharp eyes for things out of place. She enjoys studying what scrolls are left from older times, especially as they would apply to her former craft and things she likes. The histories are vaguely interesting to her, though she has little use for pouring over memos of how certain fabrics were made, or what tithes were like before the famous AIVAS, which may not have even existed. he future and the present is what is most relevant, and Peradan means to have her own names written done for something, anything. The end achievement doesn't really matter, as long as her name is written down for generations to come. It's an ambition without an end, a goal without any means of actually achieving it or knowing what path she should go down. Everything is too uncertain at the moment to have such definites.
Other: I imagine her as looking like Anna Paquin when she was brunette and slightly larger than she is now, if that's at all helpful.
Dragon
Name:Nebulath
Age:Brand new!
Appearance:

Personality: Do you have any idea how dense you are? No? Well Nebulath will tell you all about it, and don't you think you're walking away until she's through with you. This green's great explosion of temper came at the moment of her hatching, and since then she has been quietly seething and picking up on the faults of others, wondering why they can't seem to learn from them. She feels surrounded by idiots, human and draconic, and isn't shy about sharing her opinions with whoever she thinks is being a twit at the time. She's also exceptionally good at remembering something stupid somebody has done previously and calling it to their attention in the vain hope that they won't repeat the mistake. In most ways her memory is average for a dragon, but mistakes that people make are stored away somewhere in her mind forever; she won't remember when you made the mistake, but she will remember that you did and she'll make sure you do too.
She's not an intellectually brilliant dragon but she has enough practical good sense for at least two normal dragons and can spot a Really Bad Idea half a continent away. Unsurprisingly she's all too keen to tell somebody when she thinks they're about to do something completely insane, or even just run of the mill unwise. This practicality, her ability to remember past mistakes and her forthright attitude about it all will make her a good advisor and so it's usually worth listening to her, even though you will have to put up with being spoken to like an imbecile.
For all her acidity and superiority, Nebulath really does care about people: she wouldn't get so angry about their mistakes if she didn't. You'll very seldom, if ever, get her to admit to you that she cares but she does, and as such if you have made a massive mistake she will do her utmost to help you fix it... Of course while snapping at you and telling you how thick you are the whole time. One dragon she puts a lot of energy into in this fashion is Novath; she views him as a rather dim little brother who time and time again makes the same kind of mistake. Much as he frustrates her she loves him very much and will always do her best to help him fix whatever problem his temper has caused this time.
