It was late in the evening when Mitsu was finally heading back to campus from town. She had spent the better part of her after school hours looking for a job. The wolf girl didn't have much money to work with and she really needed to get a keyboard of her own. That and she had mini pets to feed....and meals were nice every once in a while. Ehh..
Stepping back onto campus she looked through the applications she had gathered. Most she had filled out and turned back in already but other required a bit more looking over before she decided.

As the wolf girl was glancing over her applications in hand, a flash of brown fur sped out from around one of the nearby buildings and was running at full speed toward her.
It looked small, really... But as it got closer, Mitsu might be able to make out the features of the creature.

Ears twitching at the top of her head, Mitsu could hear the skittering of approaching feet. Tiny feet. Curiously her gaze shifted from the papers in her hands to look around to see what it might be and caught the faintest glimpse of brown fur.
What was that? She could barely see any defining features with as fast as it was moving.

Either the Hazcat didn't see Mitsu, or whatever it was running from was far too terrifying for it to pay attention. For an instant, it had looked back over its shoulder, although it hadn't slowed.
When it turned to look ahead again, it immediately tried to skid to a halt before crashing into the wolf girl's legs. A failed attempt, which soon ended with the masked minipet colliding face-first into her shins.
It would have been unfortunate enough, but it didn't stop there. A shout came from somewhere behind, furious and calling a name. Apparently, it triggered panic all over again. In one mighty leap, the mangled Hazcat sought to dig in his claws on whatever clothing or flesh he could grab, in order to scale Mitsu like a tree and cling desperately to her for protection.

Mitsu stumbled back a bit as the hazcat ran into her legs.......the....hazcat. While Mitsu currently had a cat of her own in her dorm now it still did little to help calm her fear about others. Mostly the cat ruled the room though Ziggy was often very sweet with the wolf girl. Still though, it was a cat, which made the fur on the lupine's tail bristle with fear.
"N..Nice kitty..." Mitsu said trying to take another step back but as she did she heard a voice shout from somewhere in the distance. It had obviously struck fear into the feline as it soon was climbing up her legs, claws digging into her thighs and skirt.
"Ah!" The papers in her hands went flying, Mitsu frantically trying to think of what to do. "N..no kitty no!" She cried out gingerly trying to reach for the cat to pull it away, prancing in place hoping it would just dislodge and go running off somewhere.

It might have been lucky that there was soon another person running toward her, moments later reaching for the feline that she was trying to shoo away. They weren't as hesitant as she was, making quick work of prying the cat off of her with minimal damage to the wolf ghoul in addition to the scratches she'd already suffered from.
"QUIT running off, dammit!" Deacon scolded, holding the Hazcat roughly by the scruff.
The pet gave a pitiful, frightened mrowl, although it pressed its limbs close to its body, apparently unwilling to fight back.
"Stupid cat." He grumbled, lowering his arm while still holding the poor creature like a dirty rag. He looked to the frightened ghoul, tilting his head lightly.
"He hurt you? I'll let you punish him, if you want."

Before long Mitsu was joined by a boil who made quick work of removing the hazcat from her person. A little shakily she took a step back as the male feline yelled at the cat, watching with a sort of sympathy as the cat curled up in a fetal position. The hazcat had scared her but she knew what it was like to be yelled at and be frightened.
"P-Punish him?" Mitsu stuttered out taking another step back. Her ears drooped at the side of her head as she looked up at the boy and then to the cat. "I...I don't want to p-punish him." Her face couldn't be seen but her body language alone was enough to let it be known that she was nervous.

He did notice the ghoul's nervousness, but only shrugged. "Suit yourself, then. I'll just put the fear of Jack into him again, later." Again? From the looks of the poor creature, he had probably been through several sessions of that as it was.
Rather than giving Mitsu the personal space that she surely so desperately wanted, Deacon bent forward and leaned down a little to meet her mask's eye level. "You're one of the newer ones around here, aren't you?"

"L..later?" Despite the fact that it was a cat Mitsu couldn't help but feel sorry for the creature. It looked like it had been through quite a lot as it was. Though her attention was quickly toward away from the small feline when the much larger one leaned toward her getting close to her face.
Instantly Mitsu stiffened, the fur on her tail starting to bristle out a little. "New one what?" She stuttered out at first until she realized what he was asking. "O-oh y-yes, I'm new here." New in every sense of the word. She hadn't gotten to know a lot of people yet but she wasn't sure how to feel about this boil being right up so close and personal like this.

Thankfully, once she had replied, the tabby straightened again. A smile crossed his lips, looking surprisingly genuine. He laughed just softly, tilting his head. He rested the knuckles of his free hand upon one hip, while Caleb let out a low and pitiful cry in the grasp of the other.
"I've never seen a ghoul who's afraid of cats..." Deacon stated. Shaking his head softly, making it a point to not add how strange it was for a canine to top all, he wordlessly knelt down and began shuffling her dropped papers around so that he could collect them in hand to give them back to her.

Again her fear was obvious. How daunting, but Mitsu should have known better. It wasn't like she did a very good job of hiding it. Her fear was as plain as the mask on her face. Why were there so many cats around this school anyway?
As Deacon leaned down to collect her papers, Mitsu finally unfrozen and started to pick her things up as well. Her homework and books had gotten pretty scattered in the chaos but with the two of them at work it didn't take long to collect everything. When Deacon held out her things for her to take Mitsu reached out nervously to retrieve them tucking them with the rest of the things in her arms.
"T..thank you." She replied quietly her focus on the ground for a moment before she looked up once again her ears falling back slightly. Maybe she should try to introduce herself? There was no harm in that right? "M..my name's Mitsu." There was a pause before she continued in a stammering voice. "What's yours?"

Deacon handed the retrieved papers to Mitsu once they'd finished collecting them, dusting his hand on his trousers lightly before offering it again to the ghoul when she introduced herself.
"Deacon," he replied, offering a rather toothy grin as he waited to see if she'd reply to the offer for a handshake. "Mitsu. That's a cute name."

Mitsu stared at the offered hand almost awkwardly for a moment before she shuffled her papers and books into one arm and reached out her free hand to take his offered one. The grin sent a bit of a shiver down her spin, the flash of teeth somehow familiar though she did not know this boil.
"Uuh, t-thank you," Mitsu stammered softly drawing back her hand. Her gaze went to the kitty again though she was unsure if she should ask if he was really going to hurt the creature. The poor thing already looked like it had been through a lot. Instead she stood awkwardly not sure what to do next.
"I..it's nice to meet you." She finally said after a pause. Her conversational skills, they were improving.

As though sensing her nervousness - not that something like that was hard to do, considering how nervous she was - Deacon looked down to Caleb for a brief moment. The Hazcat looked back up, in what could only be a pitiful and pleading manner.
Deacon released his hold on the minipet, letting it drop with a little grunt onto its rump. "Go home."
Whether or not the Hazcat really processed the request for his end destination, it shook itself off and began to quickly move away from them in the direction that he had come, holding low to the ground like a whipped child.
"There. Now you don't have to worry about him trying to scale you like a tree, again."
Between the two, Mitsu probably would have preferred the smaller and quieter feline.
Deacon smiled to her words, again looking more questionable than kind with that flash of teeth. "I can carry some of that stuff, if you want." To emphasize, he held out an arm to offer to take some of the mess of papers and the like that she carried. "I'll walk you to your dorm, or next class or whatever."

Crimson eyes watched Deacon carefully through her mask as he dropped the hazcat to the ground and let it run off. She wasn't entirely certain it would listen to the larger feline but it was possible. It was a relief to see that the cat had gone though. Slowly Mitsu found herself relaxing, the fur that had been bristled along her tail slowly soothing down.
Catching that toothy grin Mitsu shifted nervously again. "Y..you don't have to. I can get it." She tried to shuffle the mess she had yet to really organize and managed to drop a few things as she tried. Frowning behind her mask Mitsu bent to collect what she had dropped only managing to scatter a few more articles from her arms. This was not working out well.
