It had been a relatively easy mission this time, the dark lion thought to himself as he made his way back to the pride. A bodyguard mission wasn’t always as straightforward as this last one had been but Gebhuza believed his appearance had been a strong enough deterrent to keep those with ill intentions away from the small merchant group the dark lion had been protecting for the past few days.

He stopped at the edge of a small watering hole. As the dark crimson gaze searched any signs of potential threats, Gebhuza noted how the wind was against him and that it would be nearly impossible to catch the scent of danger before he could actually spot it. He leaned forward and down to drink, ears still cautiously moving in their search for unpleasant company. There were trees, bushes and tall grass all around him and a great number of other places where one could hide oneself. The perfect spot for an ambush, if he could say so himself.

Usiku Mkaazis golden eyes watched the male who approached, he did not even notice her. Her dark markings on her dark pelt could convince any pair of eyes that she was no more then shadows in the dark night. Only her bright eyes would sparkle in the moonlight, however the skies were cloudy and no moon light shone through.

She studied the male his pelt almost as hidden in the dark as his however he was large and his movements loud for her keen eyes. She remained quiet and watched him more closely. He seemed cautious or more aware like he knew he was not alone. She watched as he lapped at the water, his dark reflection rippling on the water in soft waves. She admired his crimson red eyes the way they complemented his pelt.

Her ears flicked to see if he was alone, she could not hear anyone else or pick up other scents on the breeze. If there was someone near they were a distance away. She took her chances and got up from her spot and stretched her stiff limbs. Her eyes were slits against the shadows as she pushed past the tall grass to reveal herself to the male. Oh how he reminded her of her dear father. Her heart weeped for her loving mother and darling brother.

"Hello" The words came out soft and almost like a haunting melody as she padded close to him. Her paws were soft and almost graceful as though not connecting with the ground at all. She blinked softly before nodding her head to him.

Gebhuza’s tongue froze in the water as he heard the soft voice behind him. Ears hidden in the lion’s mane, the dark lion slowly turned his head to look at the lioness who looked friendly enough so far despite her appearance. Oh well, he was one to talk.

“Evening.” He said in return, his body tense. He turned slowly to face her, but decided it would be prudent not to get closer to the lioness just yet. The wind was still being rather uncooperative but the dark lion couldn’t really detect any other scents in the area or see any shapes from where he assumed she’d come. Of course, it was highly unlikely he’d be able to spot hem if they were as dark the two of them but at the moment, there were no signs that could indicate they were not alone.

“I didn’t see you there.” It was something that disturbed him really as Gebhuza liked to think his senses were perfectly sharpened. He watched the lioness intently, measuring her size and strength as best as he could before sitting down. “Not much light tonight.”
