A simple note was pinned to the door of four lockers.

Professor Hellma Shox

The clearing at edge of forest with several stone bench, be there after classes.

As ever, the headmistress was stingy with the information. Never mind "need to know" information, students could be considered lucky if they got "need to survive" information. And apparently exam students got even less, as the headmistress was nowhere to be found in the clearing at all. Usually this would considered a good thing, but during an exam?

Well... this was it. The exam notice was plain, if not to the point, vaugely? It told her where to be, so she would be there sure enough on time. So after her last class let out Sammy made her way to the benches by the woods. She had heard other students mention groups working on these projects, but she had no idea who would be in her group till they arrived.

Of course survive posted or not in the notice was a Jack Given Fact. So far field trips where the leading cause of student body death and injury reports so the idea of an exam, well, it couldn't be much worse right? Still better safe then sorry she stood just outside the edge of the benches in the clearing unsure what to do next, and far to nervous to relax on a bench while she waited.

"This is going to suck..."

Barth was not sure whether or not to be relieved that he was back in time for exams. They were pass/fail, so hopefully he'd just have to...show up, look like he was participating, and call it a day. This was about exams, wasn't it?

Otherwise he had no idea why the Headmistress was pinning notes to his locker. The first time he'd received a notice from her, he'd ignored it like he ignored most notices, and then he'd received a personal visit. He still had enough terror left over from the visit to board a train and hike across Christmas Town, fighting ninjas and robots and dragons. And certainly enough to sign paperwork in triplicate.

He figured it was about exams, but even so, felt mostly creeping dread. After a day of classes, his energy levels were at a dangerous low. Evenings weren't good for him, energy wise. Nights were for outright sleeping through, of course. Mornings were non-negotiable. Afternoons were for siesta-ing. He wasn't sure if his energy levels had a spike anywhere, but this was definitely not it.

"Oh, maybe it won't be err, so bad?" he said to Sammy, inching into the clearing. There were benches. Now if he could only get to them.

Sammy turned to face the voice behind her. Two things crossed her.mind; first this was the sloth boil who shot Siddie and second the only remote reason he would be out here was due to getting the same exam notice she had. Well this wasn't going to be easy.

"Dun know, did you remember to cheat and bring a skateboard to this just like in printable?" The remark was casual, even joking almost except her eyes which studied the boil. "Honestly? I've seen friends killed on island camping trip, fight drunk trees, angry reindeer and robots. Nothing is easy or safe around here."

"Do you think I should have?" Barth asked, worried. "It doesn't do very well with grass, unfortunately. You don't think we're being tested on that, do you? Cheating." It was difficult to prepare when you didn't know what you were preparing for. Barth liked to have the task in front of him, so he could at least procrastinate preparing for it.

"Killed? Oh, yes, you mean..." Barth trailed off awkwardly. He had been thinking about something else. "All that was off-campus though. This is still on campus. So there's...that." He said, trying to convince himself.

Amrita made her way towards the meeting place, the letter clasped so tightly in her reversed hands that it was reduced to nothing more than a paper ball. The small ghoul was absolutely terrified, and rightfully so! Exams were scary enough, but to have Hellma look over said exams?! That was...that was just...aaaaaaa. She was going to crash and burn. There was no way she was going to pass this, and even though you still passed if you failed, Amrita was pretty sure she was going to be the first scareling ever to fail. She'd have to retake year one.

...What if this wasn't about exams?! DEAR JACK WHAT HAD SHE DONE TO GET HELLMA'S ATTENTION THIS WAS GOING T----

Ohhey, was that...Sammy? Sammy was there, too?! Well, this day just got an ounce better. Sammy was pure awesome, Sammy was her Hero, and Sammy wouldn't let her afil too bad at whatever it was they were doing, right? Err, hopefully... Amrita opened her mouth to say something. All that came out was a terrified little squeak, and as her attempt to be brave failed she just shuffled right over to Sammy, careful not to stub her heel on anything enough to cause a fall.

"i'mgoingtodie" She was sure of it. The other two would live - well, maybe not the sloth demon, because, well, sloth - but Sammy would. She always did.

The wrath demon rapidly approaching the designated forest clearing had yet to show much of any sort of emotion in response to the first years' recent class trip other than curiosity. Truthfully, he didn't actually feel much more than that, at least that he would admit to. No, for all of the Horsemen, "Reapers" and death that he had been subjected to, it had been the post-trip assembly that had really set him on edge. It was there where he had first seen the true form of their headmistress, Hellma Shox.

Before that day, Professor Shox had mostly been a figure of legend, a supposedly terrifying specimen that West had simply not interacted with all that much. But seeing her in that form... He understood why she was feared. Tentacles. His fingers brushed at one of the seemingly permanent squid hickeys that adorned his neck just as his classmates came into view. He didn't know how many Snots had been called to this clearing, but it didn't seem they were waiting on him, so he had to assume he wasn't late.

"This'sfer exams, right?" he asked, stomping to a stop near the visibly frightened ghoul with the backward hands and feet. West definitely recalled the undead student as one of the few who had survived their encounter with the death charm in Christmas Town, and he had seen the other ghoul in paintball, but he certainly didn't remember their names. "I'm West," he added. If this experience was going to be as interesting as most of the other crap that happened around here, he definitely saw the benefits in them all knowing what to call each other. He nodded sharply at the sloth demon. "Barth." West hoped it wouldn't be necessary to carry the other boil anywhere today. He wasn't really in the mood.

"Skateboard, here, useless really." She glanced around at the ground pondering, "We don't have a class in cheating, but I don't think cheating is completely frowned on." A lot of variables, yes this guy was still the low life oogie boogie who shot Siddie, but he was bringing up valid points. "I think we just roll with it."

Glancing over as he mentioned the off-campus trip she rolled her eyes. "It was still school ran, they send us like shock troops to be cannon foddered off while they kick back sipping Cider. I don't trust this place at all. You saw what Cricket did to Bul a few days ago? Ate him. Ate. Him. Our teachers are hardly going to go easy on us..."

She paused again turning to look at another approaching figure, the same small ghoul Amrita was walking over, poor thing looked like she was going to have a heart attack, assuming her heart still functioned at all. "Hey, Amrita, I guess you got one of those notes too?" She tilted her head at the squeak shrugging her shoulders. "You, him, me, all of us most likely, or something close to it. I heard Shehk got messed up during her exam but still passed to to be a knob."

As the wrath demon approached Sammy felt some twinge of hope, he might be useful, Barth, slugish and questionable, Amrita, good heart, but lets face it, she wouldn't be too good if something tried to eat them: IE: Cricket.

"Yep, note on the locker, meet by the clearing we all got one." Offering a fist towards the demon she nodded. "Samantha Lee, resident undead of the demon dorms, survivor of christmas town till a Death Charm roasted me and my buddy Tahki, and also a second tour on the island of 'what the ******** is this jack-damn-s**t madness.' Pleasure to meet you." She gave a slight pause glancing between him and Barth, apparently they knew each other somewhat?

"Hello West," Barth said, "and err, nice to meet you, Amrita, Sammy. ...I err, hadn't heard about the eating." The subject made him more nervous, also for separate reasons. "I'm Bartholomew Mudd. Err, demon resident of the demon dorms. Barth, if you like."

Amrita he knew from Christof. He had designed the box to contain her Death Charm. There had been...various levels of drama involved, he knew. When they'd built it, Christof had shown up at his window tongueless, distraught, covered in blood, and missing one shoe. Amrita had been at the thick of it. Seeing how small he was shed some light on the subject, but not much.

Sammy he had seen on both trips, but not met properly. Resident of the demon dorms. He'd heard about that. Policies had been racially strict when he first arrived. Christof still snuck into his room. But his other friends came and went now without much fear of reprisal. Sammy sounded tough and competent.

West had carried him up a mountain for several days, and they'd fought various enemies together before. Homework, the squid, the ninja, laundry machines, the hunter with the scythe (twice). ...Barth was having trouble thinking of something he'd fought that West hasn't. And West was a good shot when it came to harpoon guns, cannons, and bazookas. Not that the clearing was stocked with projectile weapons. But he'd seen West do just as well with his fists. Barth counted him as a friend.

If they were all working against each other...well, Barth hoped they were working together instead.

Extending his own hand, West shook the one the zombie ghoul offered and smirked. He hadn't known they had a resident undead. Now he supposed he did. "Pleasure." She seemed spirited at least, and he knew Barth could put up a fight when pressed, even if the other boil wouldn't admit it was within his capabilities. Maybe they could hide Amrita in a bush somewhere if she got too scared. On a more positive note, if they were meant to fight each other, West was pretty confident he would wipe the woods with all their asses.

"She puked'im up right after," he continued, picking up where he thought the next important chapter of Cricket Consumed a Student began. "He seemed okay." West shrugged. He didn't mention the contagious mold. That part of the class had been candlejackin' gross.

"Yeah, but what if she hadn't?" It was also probably good West didn't mention the mold part, Siddie has slept over again and Sammy was still trying to get comfortable with the fact that being around Siddie could possibly result in mold, as if rotting slowly over time wasn't bad enough already. She glanced back at Barth nodding, "Sex-ed class, 2nd one Crieckets offered, also blew a mini-pumpkin up right in front of the class, not so pleasing really."

Turning back to the field she moved closer to the benches going as far as to place a foot on it and lean over resting on her knee staring into the woods. "Sooo what do you reckon they plan to do with us now? Something come leaping out the woods devour us whole? Ninjas? Dragons? Maybe multiple choice, that would be a nice change." Even if she would fail it, she hated book tests, but at least it wouldn't kill her... unless the test had teeth...

"H-hi Sammy." Amrita replied, nodding. As if to prove it she opened her shaking hands to show the balls up piece of paper, mostly kept in the ball form by the tape that originally kept it on her locker.

"Uhhh...I'm Amrita. I, um, own the Death Charm...?" A pang of guilt rang through her since she was now quite aware that DC's parent had toasted almost everyone she knew. But...hopefully acknowledging that she owned the beast would a) make her feel better and b) make them think she was less of a liability. Because, let's be honest, they were stupid to think of her as a strong ally. "It's nice to meet you all, too." Well, she hoped it would be, so far they weren't pit against each other. The ghoul had no idea that Barth had helped Christof with the container for DC.

"...W-well...She does have scary shadows..." Amrita recalled the Truth or Dare event. But as for what would be happening, she had no idea.

The sound of small, rapid footsteps approached the clearing. Finally, Hellma was coming to administer their exam, and apparently was in a bit of hurry to do so. And she had feet again? And she was crying, "RUUUUUUUN!" in a high, obnoxious voice? Wait, what?

A gnome burst into the clearing, wild-eyed and panting. For a moment he seemed relieved at the sight of the students, but after a moment, "Snots?! Oh candleja-"

It's small body collapsed face first and quickly dissipated before them. A larger form silently stepped into the clearing and leveled a hard, unrelenting gaze at the students. In a voice as sharp as a killing blade and colder than the bitterest winter, he asked, "Where is the creature known as Hellma Shox?"

Congratulations guys, you are now battling a ninja.

For this round, simply roll two six-sided dice. You can either use that roll to attack, or you can use that roll to prepare your student for battle. Simply bold your choice.

Barth had been prepared for dithering through a lot of things. Jingleberry wasn't one of them.

Without weapons, they were in a bad position. ...He wasn't sure if attacks would even work. Amrita was right. They were dead, they were really going to die. He'd faced a lot of things. He still got worried at the smell of peppermint. He side-glanced at West.

"She's err, she's somewhere about, I expect." He offered weakly, taking a singular step back and trying to concentrate his Fear into his left set of claws.
