Prom was coming up real fast. Bul knew that the committee was already working on getting the ball rolling and if he had any hopes of making a lasting impression with Mei he would need to get all sorts of cleaned up- more so than at Scarentines. This of course meant that alot of the other boils were going to get fancied up to please their dates.
Bul needed to pick out a suit still but more than anything the half beast lacked a nice tie. Ties tend to go with everything right? Ties were like... the epitome of fancy as uncomfortable and unpleasant as they were. After having dug through his closet to find he'd lost his one from Scarentines he was certain that he was in a rut now.
For once in a long time he decided to take a trip to the maul. There were so many things he meant to get there like a new bass and some new CDs but that was a trip of leisure he would spend with his best buddy or his ghoulfriend. Today meant business, looking for a tie and possibly even some cologne.
Stepping into the wide antechamber of 'To Die For, Men's Clothing', Bul felt almost immediately lost. This place was.. a little too dapper for his usual taste. There wasn't even a sports section, how could that be? The half beast wandered around aimlessly till he'd find a section selling ties.

Despite his messy, stick-littered hair, his torn clothing, and worn scarf, Calder knew a few things about fashion. He'd visited seamstresses since he was a little colt, was taught about accessorizing and hair styles from his parents and, once cleaned up, had the looks that could startle a crowd. It was in his blood to look good, and he was giddy for Prom. Dances so far were the only time anyone had seen the kelpie cleaned up and, due to a talk with his friend Barth, he was thinking he...maybe.......might..sorta try looking better. As long as he didn't get made fun of!
It was why he wanted to go all out for Prom. He had something to prove and, most importantly, wanted to impress his date. While taking out his suit and one of his best kilts, he noticed that his bow-tie was nowhere to be seen. Panicking, he raced to the Maul in hopes of finding the right shade of green or even plaid. A nice hair ribbon might be in order too.
The only thing was, Calder bought his things from a seamstress or trader. Stores were a new experience for him and he didn't like how impersonal they were. Not to mention the glossy floors made walking hard.
Stepping inside, he too wandered the store, looking around and pausing every so often when a article of clothing caught his eye. Not Prom wear, but still pretty. It was then that he noticed Bul wandering about, and smiling, trotted over to grab the boil's arm. "Hi Bul!" He said, perky and cheerful. "Out shopping?"

Before too long Bul would find himself completely on the other side of the store from the ties. "Jack damniiiiiiitt!" the boiled groaned aloud but before he could turn to find assistance a kelpie from school came latching on to his arm.
"Hey.. you.. Calder.." he paused. He wasn't sure how to feel about seeing the kelpie there to be honest, but he didn't feel adequate alone anyway some company while shopping may actually relieve a lot of the stress. "What are you doing here today are you uh.. looking for prom stuff too?" he asked and swished his tail irrately behind him while darting his eyes in search of a tie stand.
"Dude I can't ********... find any ties here everything's so professional looking it just wreaks of businessmonsters..." he grumbled to the kelpie before scratching the back of his neck.

"Yup! I'm looking for a bow tie and maybe a better ribbon than the one I have. The one I had got a bit worn and the others don't eve match. I did think I had another plaid one but I must have not packed it." He said, pausing to think a moment about where that blasted bow tie had gone before shaking it off. "Anyways, yeah. I'm super excited. Prom is going to be a blast, and I want it to be perfect." He gave a wiggle of his hindquarters just thinking about it, his tail flicking side to side in anticipation.
To Bul's complaint, Calder turned, looking around. "I know! This place is huge! I can't believe creatures can make buildings this big." To which he blushed a bit. Way to show off that you were from the backwoods, Calder. "Um, I'll go ask the workers here. I'm sure they know. Wait here." He said, pointing to the very spot Bul stood and releasing his arm to trot off to the front counter, almost slipping once before regaining his balance and leaving.
It took only a few seconds for the kelpie to trot back, the hard clip clop of his hooves on the tiles, and locking his arm around Bul's elbow. "They said it's way over there. She said she'd come over, but I don't think she knows much about colors." He glanced back and whispered to Bul. "Her pink glasses looked ugly with her blue complexion."
"Come on." He said, and started to escort Bul towards the ties.

If Bul liked anything plaid it was usually paired with leather and punk attire but even he hesitated to wear something like that. He could tell that was the kelpie's favorite by his attire anyways. "It'll be perfect when I get my whole ensemble..."
Bul watched as Calder heralded a lady working at the store and immediately grew nervous he didn't want her to come over and start dolling him up too much he was only here for a few things. "Calder wai-" it was too late by then. The boil was stumbling off on the freshly waxed floors and bringing attention to him and Unstabul.
"Eeeuh...." When Calder returned Bul rushed with him to the ties keeping a wary eye on the lady in the hopes that she would forget that they needed any 'assistance.' "As much as.. I hate to say this, I can't help but agree with you.."
Great, he was agreeing with this other boil on color theory in fashion. "So wait, you're going to prom, eh?" he asked and turned his head, awfully curious as to who the boil had plans with. "Who you taking?"

Calder had no idea of Bul's discomfort, floating on his own cloud at the idea of prom and how pressed and dressed he'd be beside his date. Oh, Invictus. They would be the perfect prom couple and just shimmer with the ghastly radiance of two people who were meant to be side by side of each other for all eternity. Just thinking about it made him give a long sigh, one of many he had since the boil had agreed to go to the dance with him.
Smiling, he showed them off to the ties that were neatly folded and a few in boxes with open windows to see them. They ranged in many colors, from classic, coffin black to pumpkin orange. Calder detached himself from Bul to move to the more green side of the color tie spectrum to see what they had.
The question all but made him grin again, if not more than he already was, and he touched his cheek at the very question. It was starting to hurt, smiling this often. "Of course I'm going to Prom. It is PROM after all. Who'd miss that?"
He looked up, sidetracked from ties to think of his darling. "I'm going out with someone amazing. A new student named Invictus." Oh, the name made him all tingly inside, and he wiggled a bit just saying it. His date. The future husband to his children.

It was no surprise that Bul had his eyes set on a reddish colored tie. The guy really liked red! Besides, he knew that if he was going to keep up his and Mei's matching taste in color he might as well stick with something predictable... but impressive.
"I dunno, sorry people I suppose.." he replied though scrunched his nose to himself. In all actuality he wasn't a big prom person. He didn't discourage it but if you weren't going there with a real date then you were hardly going... it was hard to pass prom up as just a fun little thing there was a lot to it to him but he was fortunate to have the opportunity to even go at all.
"A new student eh?" he grinned. Fresh mea- "Invictus? Wait isn't... jacking s**t isn't that one of the cloaks from the island? He was at the fitness booth during open house fora while.. sheesh!"
It hadn't even dawned on him that Invictus and Calder were going as two males together and that it was interestingly appropriate in a roundabout way. At least he got to go, Calder seemed too social to miss it.
"Er so.. " Bul trailed off as he examined a couple of more tacky ties with a frown on his face. Too many patterns... but they were kinda cool! He didn't know whether or not to go for patterned or stay sleek especially without a tux ready yet. It wouldn't hurt to buy more than one though especially if they happened to be on sale.

Calder squeezed to two ties he was holding at either end and huffed. "Invictus went to the Fitness booth? That's so unfair! He should have come to Nap club. Our booth was better." He huffed, but that was water under the bridge and Open House was over. There was no point in bringing it up with his date anyways since they hadn't even met, but he had an entire prom day with the horsemen to make up for it.
"...Oh, yeah. I head he was cloaked. Never got to see him on the island. I'm sure I'd feel better if I did." If Invictus had been where he'd been, he could have held to his arm every time he was afraid and keep whatever fog-induced nightmares might be haunting the horseman. Then, in some remote corner of the cornfields, they could connect emotionally during the high stress of near death situations. Oh, it would have been magical and such a better time on the island than the one he had. "I wish he had been where I was. I just got stuck in some lab that was down a hole." He huffed again, setting one tie aside and inspecting a green tie. It was rather soft, but he really was looking for plaid. He had found one with stripes, but that wasn't going to cut it.
"So who are you taking?"

Bul chuckled at the kelpie and shrugged. "Better or worse I don't know but he stopped by," luckily he'd missed the part when Riley lost her s**t about it and failed to mention it to the other boil. "I wouldn't doubt it either since the other ghoul that he was with was cloaked too. I didn't know what to think of them at the time but.. Its good to know that they're good guys in the end.. heh.."
There wasn't a good plain red tie in sight but a black and red striped one caught the lizard boil's eye and he stopped to inspect it some. "I'm taking Mei Xiu. I wish I had known she was in NAP," Bul said shooting Calder an uneasy smile. Surely he knew what'd happened.
"What do you think.. this one is my red, isn't it?" he asked and held it up to his neck. It did match pretty well and finding the right kind of red was hard given his range of tones in his skin.

"Mei. Mei. Mei. Nope. Can't think of who she is. Bet she's pretty though." Calder pulled out a, dare you believe it, a green plaid tie and grinned. Hmm. It was a bit off in the stripes, but it might have to do. If not, he'd have to tear stripes from an old kilt and make that work.
Looking up, he smiled. "That works out nice. Red suits you." He continued to inspect several green ties. "So, do you Liiikkkeeee this ghoul?"

"Do I like her?" Bul practically giggled. "Of course I do! Actually I just asked her out a week or two ago. We're going steady." Bul looked the tie over then seemed to examine Calder's face. "Yea that looks pretty good you really like green and plaid heh."
Thankfully Bul lost sight of the associate that was lacking in fashion sense. "So you really think this works?" He held the tie up once more and looked for a mirror. "Woooow... yeah that's quite nice huh.. I'm so bad with colors but... I think think this'll do."
For the first time since he'd met him Bul gave Calder a very genuine smile. It... was fun. And he would never verbally admit it but the kelpie was kinda pretty fun to shop with. God forbid he enjoy himself shopping.

'Awww. That's romantic!" Calder clasped his hands together and smiled, thinking of how nice it was to have someone you could go steady with. His longest relationship had only been for a week, and then he had been dumped. He could only hope that Invictus might want to stay with him after Prom for a while. He really wanted a boilfriend to call his very own. Hope and wishful thinking. It's all he could do at the moment. The school year was ending and he'd have another chance next year. Still, if he got a boilfriend, he could write them every day during the long, lonely, summer months.
Moving over, he looked Bul in the eye and the tie, before walking over and handing him another. "Same color, but less glossy. That might be a little flashy." He said, finally noticing it under some better light.
After, he examined his own. "I like paid because it matches my kilt." He pointed to the one he was wearing. "It's my clan colors, and I can't have a color that doesn't match. I'm going to be wearing my best for Prom." For a boil who had sticks in his hair, torn clothes, and a ripped up scarf, one had to wonder what his 'best' really was.

Bul couldn't agree more. Not typically a romantic sap, he found their relationship and it's sturdy emotional basis was pretty damn romantic.
"Oh I see, thanks-" Bul took the offered tie and shone it against the light. It was definitely not as shiny as the other which was a good thing considering there'd definitely be a lot of flashy lights.
"Uh..." Bul turned to examine his kilt then looked back to the boil's face. "Wait so do you have a special kilt for prom?" he asked curiously. At this point he wouldn't be surprised if the other did.

Calder looked at Bul looking rather confused. "Of course. This is my everyday kilt. I have ones for special occasions. Their longer and made better. Can't wear my best clothes all the time. That would be crazy." Not that Calder wore even okay clothes on a normal day. His jacket, shirt, and scarf were torn and full of holes, and it was a wonder his kilt wasn't ripped to shreds.
Turning, he picked out the two ties he was going to use. One could be made into a bowtie, while the other could be a tie. He didn't have much, but at least he could afford these two. "I'm going to wear all my best clothes for this." He then idly brushed a lock of loose hair behind his ear. "I...just hope no one minds." Looking too pretty might make a few monsters think he was rather sick looking.

If he didn't know any better, Bul would've assumed even what he was wearing to be special and proper. "I don't think anyone will mind. I think everyone's gonna be like... all over s**t trying to look THE best."
Grasping the less glossy tie in hand, the half beast went ahead for a second of a different color just in case- they were on sale after all.
"Well then, now I gotta grab some cologne. I haven't anything remotely worthy of wearing in front of a ghoul so.." Making a face at himself he leaned on one of the columns separating the section they were in from the next.
