I had an Idea recently, wouldn't it be nice if there was actual weather in the game? Like rain, wind (Windy weather), and maybe snow if we ever get a snow area, I think it would add to the feel of the game. Also, maybe we could have things like lightning that get a small percent chance of actually hitting you (given you're in the right place at the right time), if it doesn't hit you then it just hits the ground, things like that. It's a small idea without much of a purpose except to make things feel nice. maybe at some point we could have weather related monsters >_> but that's for a different topic.

We do have one environmental effect up. The cherry blossoms let go of petals in Zen Gardens. That effect kept lagging the game some time ago.
This idea would be... interesting. We already have Nocturnal animated. Making weather would brig a different set of rules for a type to appear.
But, considering the following updates (a cave, a beach, a cave and... I dunno), I doubt we'll see it soon, even if they wanted to do it.

this has been suggested before, and I think the devs said it would be difficult to do.

RafiCat this has been suggested before, and I think the devs said it would be difficult to do. I recall, specifically, that snow would be difficult; because they'd have to generate a second, snow-covered map for the affected areas. If we make an effort to avoid those sorts of weather effects (so, alas, no iceskating on Bass'ken Lake), it would be a mite more manageable.
It's been suggested in this Guild, even - though I think it's a good idea, so it always warrants a little more discussion... sweatdrop

How about... weather with no altered area? We'd only see a screen filter. The greatest change from weather would be ring efficiency and monster types spawning.
Of course, SNOW would be a ********, since, well, most of the game is either luxuriously green or on the beach.
Rain would be fine though. Windy weather perhaps as well. A duststorm too. And of course, massive drought.

cnoisy RafiCat tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes? but...tsunamis aren't really weather neutral Neither are earthquakes, but we tend to lump them in to weather or climate, I suppose because they are all natural phenomena.
