Trails are curious things, lacking much of the dignity of well-established roads and even the sensible directness of a path. A trail never thinks to start at Point A and travel as directly as possible to Point B. Rather, a trail meanders, taking its sweet time. Sometimes doubling back to take in some half-glimpsed gem of the landscape, or perhaps because it thought it might have left the stove on at home. Sometimes heading straight down through a pond and up again on the other side, just for the sake of getting its feet wet. Should you decide to follow a trail, you can never be certain that where it ends up taking you is entirely safe, for curiosity can be fatal. Whisper didn't seem to consider this, as she was quickly making her way down a forest trail, one that she had chosen to take simply because it had been there, and she hadn't been down it before. So far, she wasn't really impressed. There were all kinds of forests: great, old dark ones where the lichen would hang from the trees and trail fingers down your back; sprightly, young forests with lots of light, and thin trees shivering with youthful exuberance; tall, stately forests like the pillars of cathedrals; and wild, exotic forests that wrapped its secrets in vines and poisonous insects, daring you to peel away the layers. This forest, however, was just too... normal, Whisper felt, watching the play of shadow and light through the canopy. No really deep shadows, no sudden stunning vistas, no ancient trees blocking the light. She'd passed a stream that chuckled in its bed rather modestly, and there were a few small meadows with a conservative smattering of wild flowers, the trees seemed very conscientious of respecting the trails' personal space, and there wasn't even a hint of danger about to liven things up. All in all, forgettable. Whisper yawned as she continued to follow the trail, which had seemed to catch on to her disapproval and seemed to be slowly trying to fade away in the underbrush. However, the underbrush just wasn't tangled enough to truly obscure it, and it was soon forced to sheepishly resume its trek across the landscape. Whisper frowned at it, but was surprised when it shot off in a new direction all of a sudden. She paused, one hoof raised uncertainly over the trail, and followed it with her eyes as it zig zagged excitedly up a medium-sized hill and was soon lost to sight over the top. Curiosity peaked, Whisper trotted up the trail, wondering if perhaps there was something worth seeing in this forest, after all. Upon reaching the top of the hill, she realized there was. For the trail ran down a short incline and stopped beside a small lake, where it swelled with pride into a sandy shore-line. Here, by some quirk of the landscape was a small series of waterfalls feeding the lake, which was ringed with lilypads, cat-tails, and weeping willows that delicately reached down to touch their reflections. Whisper stepped softly onto the shore, drinking in the quiet and peace of the lake. "This isn't bad." she had to admit, watching a dragonfly flit across the water. Her gaze continued down to the shore, and she noticed that hers weren't the only hoofprints in the sand. Apparently, at least one other Soquili had been here, too, and not too long ago either. Whisper cast a surreptitious glance about the shore, wondering if he or she was still about.

The day was hot and it had indeed been long thus far. Between a sparing session with his mother just before sunrise and chasing a pure walker out of the territory. He much deserved his current form of relaxation. With his adornments of white and blue hanging on a nearby branch swaying lightly in a warm breeze . He stood stalk still as Cool but not quite icy cold water from a water fall pounded down on him off the rocks above like a heavy much needed massage. In a word it was heaven to hid aching over heated form. He sighed to himself deep in thought, his head hung in a almost sleepy fashion while the bright sun that reached him through the sparse canopy of weeping willow branches refracted off his bright blue scales onto the rock out cropping casting bits of light all about. Over the sound of rushing water it was not surprising he herd nothing of approach. " Take this kiss upon the brow! And, in parting from you now, Thus much let me avow- You are not wrong, who deem That my days have been a dream; Yet if hope has flown away In a night, or in a day, In a vision, or in none, Is it therefore the less gone? All that we see or seem Is but a dream within a dream.
I stand amid the roar Of a surf-tormented shore, And I hold within my hand Grains of the golden sand- How few! yet how they creep Through my fingers to the deep, While I weep- while I weep! O God! can I not grasp Them with a tighter clasp? O God! can I not save One from the pitiless wave? Is all that we see or seem But a dream within a dream?" He recited gently feeling it was somewhat appropriate.

Whisper had been scanning the tree-line when she got the distinct feeling she could hear words over the noise of the waterfall. Which was not impossible, of course, but the voices you hear from waterfalls are much like the shapes you see in clouds, shaped by your expectations. And Whisper was definitely not expecting to hear poetry.
When you are bright orange, there is only one season in the year where you can hope to hide effectively, and summer isn't it. So Whisper didn't bother trying to conceal her presence on the shore, as she moved towards the voice. Nosing aside the willow's fronds, she was momentarily dazzled by the sparkle of light off cascading water, and the vivid blue flashes coming from...
No! Nope! Whisper shut her eyes and jerked her head around, certain that she was seeing a mirage of some kind. There was absolutely no chance that a forest this ordinary would be able to hold both a beautiful lake and a dazzlingly handsome stallion. She could accept the lake, but the stallion was obviously wishful thinking on the part of her poor bored mind. Unless this particular part of the forest was some sort of heat sink for beauty? She frowned at that thought, certain that it was nonsense, but it had a sort of logic to it.
The sudden cessation of poetry jerked her back from her wandering thoughts, and she risked another peek in the direction of the waterfall. Okay, yes he was still there, still beautiful, but there was no way this kind of scene ever crawled its way out of a storyteller's fable into reality. He probably had horrible manners, murdered Cerynei for the fun of it, and kicked kittens in his spare time. Considering that, the obvious thing to do would be to slowly back away and skedaddle back the way she'd come.
Instead, she called out a hello.

"hello?" His ears swiveled forward when the first syllable fell from her lips fallowed closely by the opening of a pair of languid blue eyes. At first all her saw was a pair of dainty gold red tipped hooves at the base of a pair of stately blood orange legs. Upward his gaze lifted as the sound of the water crashing around him seemed to fade like white noise into a place to be forgotten. To put in words not even the finest he could muster she looked like someone had taken scissors and from a perfect autumn sunrise, At just the right moment, when the trees are simple barren shapes, remaining leaves flutter to join already fallen brothern on he damp cool ground below, and the sky is all a glow. Had cut her form from it . ..not in anger now but more in a desire to preserve such a short moment just . . .a little longer. for a time he scarce remembered he was . . .for lack of a better word naked. "Good afternoon Madam." he replied straightening up from his relaxed slouch averting his gaze sheepishly and clearing his throat. "would you mind . . .turning away for just a moment." he ventured with a sheepish smile. he knew in the back of his mind it was silly but he just didn't feel right talking with a mare while he was . . .as he was presently.

Electricity. A word a Soquili had no use for, or understanding or, but nevetheless, the jolt Whisper felt when those brilliant blue eyes met hers was electric. It took her several moments to remember that these could be the eyes of a VERY EVIL SOQUILI, and that she shouldn't be staring. However, he took the initiative, greeting her, and for all the world looking as though he was chagrined to be caught reciting poetry under a waterfall. But to ask her to look away? Was this some sort of evil plot? Catch her while her back was turned? Or perhaps he wanted to escape to his evil lair! Whisper quieted her imagination, and seriously considered the stallion in front of her. He didn't look or act like some villain from a storytellers fire, but she mistrusted the seeming perfection of manners and looks. However, he hadn't done anything so far, so... maybe she should give him the benefit of a doubt. Drawing her brows together prettily, she resisted the urge to stare at him longer, and trotted a short distance away. From here, she could actually hear him over the sound of the waterfall, if he tried to sneak up on her. Sorry for the late reply!

There he stood quietly, almost sheepishly as she seemed to scrutinize him and his possible motives for some moments. He felt a tad nervous and resisted the urge to check his appearance almost or just ask frantically for what ever it was that seemed to not agree with her. Normally it wouldn't have mattered too much but her approval might calm the butterflies that now flew quite wildly about in his insides. That little flash of . . .surprise he felt flicker across her futures when their eyes met had set them off so surely only she could calm them once more . . . this uniquely beautiful mare of autumn sky. Her lack of verbal reply as she turned from him made his lip make a little frown. Thus far she seemed A mare of few words. What a shame. With a voice liken to the romantic scent of roses he would of liked to hear more from her. He thought as he put his adornments back on. Once finished properly attired and all he cleared his throat and took some steps forward. Thanks to his Kirin step he disturbed not a single blade of grass so he made virtually no sound.* "my apologies for that but I do believe now that I'm a tad more presentable -" he paused till he was right behind her then added. "introductions are in order?" He smiled in a friendly manner his sparkleing white teeth showing just a little in a debonaire manner.
*so basically he kinda snuck up her without meaning to. It happens a lot and the kirn step is in the cannon materiel but I didn't wanna god mod her being surprised or not.*
((not a problem I've got so Manu tags it's not even funny.))
