The grass swayed in the breeze the cool air whipping around her before blowing off into the distance. She stood there trying to pick out the best bits of grass to eat the seasons were changing and the grass was dying she went for the bits of green that still remained. If anyone saw her now they might think she was a deer of course she looked more like one than a horse but she prided in herself that she was unlike any other mare most would die if they had no hair but she was proud of where she came from. Her father had been a stallion and her mother a doe she took after her mother but her fathers genes were still within her. She was focused on eating letting her memories roam in her mind wondering if she would meet a true friend or something more..most stallions she met were turned off by her baldness but she was still proud she could not tell true beauty for what it was. She wanted to find a stallion to love her for who she was no change needed to her somewhat strange personality.

Hoto walked into the clearing kicking, spitting, muttering and in a general bad mood. He'd been this way for months and nothing short of a good long tiring run for hours had seemed to shake him of it. His life was a mess, or so he thought of it. His human companion, while still loving and compassionate around him, had settled. Completely. Him and his new wife glowed with their new love and there was even a baby on the way. It sickened him. That and he recent experiences in life had left him bitter. But he figured incarceration by mutant bird women could do that to a guy. It was a miracle that his human companion, Wahu, had helped him escape....but there was still a hole. Hoto had long since been used to wandering free and long. Finding and beating trouble. Carrying important packages and messages long distances. It had been his life and he'd loved it...now he was stuck close to a village and expected to help with goddamn stupid village chores! It was disgrace to his warhorse blood and he was powerless to do a thing about it.

She quickly looked up when she heard a commotion not far from her. The birds scattered from the trees and the small animals ran for cover. She saw it was only a stallion who looked like he had seen better days. He was mumbling to himself and kicking the ground with his hooves frowning and just looking outright mad. She crept closer trying to be as quiet as she could knowing the grass would help hide her. As she got closer she noticed he also blended in with the grass but he was very muscular and looked very strong like he was built to be a warrior. He had strange markings on him that she had never seen before. She did not want to be the first to speak because she knew an angry stallion would not be calm and would have no reason. She steeped out from the grass thought in full view of him so he would not think she was following him or any of the sort.

It took a few moments and several steps closer before he saw her. When he did he was only a few feet away. He stopped dead, shut his mouth, quieted his fidgety and tense body by sheer force of will and dared to look sheepish. He'd forgotten that there were others in this world, including the deer horse mare now in front of him and not all of them liked to hear a stallion being a stupid wreck. He took three deep breaths so he could open his mouth and use a calmer more resonant tone. "Hello....umm....yeah...well....that probably wasn't the best first meeting now was it?"

He seemed embarrassed that she had seen him upset and she assumed he was still learning things about these lands. She herself was not very old and she understood why he would want to seem strong and noble not a stallion who grew mad over things and showed it to the world. He was breathly deeply as if nervous about something and he wanted to say something but he took three more breaths before talking. He must really be new to being an adult..but so was she as least in a way.
"How we meet does not matter its what we make of the meeting. My name is Larena" she nods to him

He blinked at her three times and then tilted his head sideways. For some strange reason all the nervous, angry tension left him and he laughed. A deep belly laugh that shook his sides and fluttered the feathers in his mane. "You're cute little lady." And compared to him she was little. The cerynei always appeared fragile and willowy to him and the lore attached to them certainly did fit. Born from the trees she might well have been. "What made you so calm as to face an angry warhorse? You had such a serene look on your face." And when he decided to open his eyes and really look at her he decided she was pretty. A classic deer soquilli beauty. "I am Hototo. Wandering, jobless, warrior warhorse. You?"

She is startled by his laugh it was very deep and it seemed the ground would shake when he did laugh but she smiled at him watching thew feather in his mane shift from the force of his laugh. "I could say you look amazing yourself" she nods at him again not knowing what to say to this giant " Well..i figure being scared wont help anything and if your ever uncertain being clam if the best way to assess who you might be dealing with..its something i learned from interacting with others if you seem scared well then there try to chase you off if someone looks angry and needs help being clam is the best way to approach them" she smiles at him again welcoming his name "I am Larena of no titles it is nice to meet you Hototo of the many titles"

He chuckled again at her. "You are a strange thing. Do you always speak so formal?" And then he shook his head and smiled at her comment about titles. "Oh it's not that I have so many titles. I fear perhaps I've done to little with myself and got stuck doing one thing too long. Perhaps you've been there?" He wasn't even quite sure why he was talking to her...or why he was smiling. It was the bad mood he decided immediately. He had to at least prove to her he was amicable.

"Well possibly..the other side of me is yet to come out" she grins at him knowing that when she wanted to she could be very formal but other times she was very playful and wild it just dependind on her mood and who she met. "You should go exploring or traveling try doing something new..even swimming..I have been stuck doing the same fro for to long trying to find someone who aspects me for who i am" she nods "I think i might of found that someone" she smiles and wonder's where this stallions bad mood went could he be toying with her? No matter she quite liked him already and wanted to learn more about him "I could not help but notice your markings..may i ask where they come from? I have never seen anything like them before"

He guffawed at her rather forward comment about respect but took it in stride. "I have never met a cerynei I didn't like. And if I have they were mixed with something I don't like tangling with." He grimaced at the thought of some of the more vicious crossbreeds about the land. "But I suppose that is a discussion for another day. My markings? Now those have a story. A proud one. My line is indeed a proud line." His eyes went slightly misty as he began to remember old time. "My marking are a family trait. I come from a line of proud warrior warhorses bred to fight and protect our partners. I popped from my basket with these marking just like my father and his father before him. It is said that one of our ancestors was so loved by his partner that he was honored with native and beautiful markings and patterns. In paint of course. But then something magical happened and the paint was adsorbed into his very skin, his very genetics and so we have had marking like them ever since." He smiled at the story. "Pretty tale isn't it? But it doesn't end so prettily. I am the very last of that once proud line and I have even lost my purpose in life. There was a fire when i was young it claimed my sister and my mother. My father was already old and the injuries sustained while trying to save them killed him soon after. I was saved by my partner Kwahu and watched the terrible seen as a tiny foal, shivering on a rise." She shook out his head to rid old memories and let his mane dance. He was aware she had probably seen several emotions cross his face during his story.

She heard him make a funny sort of sound but made no comment on it. She leaned in when he started to speak wanting to take mental notes of what he said about his markings but first he seemed to talk about her breed so she replied with honesty "That is a great thing if you had you would of been different towards me" she nods at him "Tangled up with the blood of a walker or kalona..any breeds with that blood they are crazy.." she would never want to meet one pure or not but if she did she would never show fear she would be a leader she would stand up even fight if she had to. she would not be proved to weak for the ideals of them. Her ears perk up when she hears him go on about his markings. She is very intent on what he is saying and her face shows many emotions during his tale ranging from happy to horrified. "Your a warrior..bred from the finest..I could see that when i first saw you i though you were a warrior great and powerful.." she inangies another time when great horses roamed the earth ones like him big and powerful from nobel family lines.
"I find it magical how your ancestors markings became real..I cannot describe my pain though for you being the only one left..If you had foals..would they be considered linage?" she cocks her head to one side "You were the one that could and can carry on your line..You may be the last but i would think your traits would pass down to your foals and there foals no matter who there mother is..It must be hard knowing your the last of your breed..fire destroying your family..a foal watching his family perish in a fire with no way of saving them.." she frowns saddened by this story "But you made it out and now you are strong and have put the past behind you..i could see it in your eyes the blood of a warrior" she knew not how to react to his story she wanted to comfort him but it seemed wrong. She saw many expression cross his face and she knew many has crossed hers as well.

He listened as she took his words in and reacted. He was perhaps more than a bit shocked by her empathy and concern. To her he was practically a stranger. His ears perked when she talked about foals...his foals. "The lineage means nothing. I was bred to serve a man as his companion, friend and fellow warrior. Those who would want a horse of that purpose are long since gone. As far as anyone knows we all perished in that fire. Including me. But more than that, I have never considered myself a family man. I was content with my life as a rogue traveling warrior. That was who I was and what I loved. Mares, while pretty, were never an interest. You, yourself, are beautiful but I find myself far more curious than randy...and there are other things to stop me..." He trailed off as memories of the harpies and his imprisonment came back. But not many. He bottled them away again quickly. "But thank you for calling me strong. There was a while there where I was wondering if I'd lost my touch. What about you pretty thing? Do I get to learn about your past?"

She felt connected to him even though they had not been talking for more than an hour. She felt passion for him the need to heal this poor stallion who had gone though so much in his life he needed a guide someone to love him she knew she could be there for him he needed her. "I believe there is always hope i think you may be surprised at who you find out here.." she nods "just as you ran into me you may run into a warrior like yourself who would hunt with you..i do think the two leggers eat meat..?" she pasus for a moment "You do not look like the type to settle down but rasing a family has it perks..i dream about the day when i settle down if only for a moment..i und3rstand change is hard when your the only one..not able to do what you love..i thank you for the kind words.." she nods at his remark of her being beautiful. "Your are more than welcome..strong stallions are not easy to come by most of them are full of themselves but you are down to earth..thats the best way to be..if you asked me i would say you still have your charms from whenever you first had them" she smiles at him "Well my knight..would you like to know of me? I can say my mother was a doe and my father a stallion..perhaps she was only a mare in disquse but she always told me she was a doe..thus i look most like her but i have my fathers eyes..i dont remember my parents well.."

He grimaced at the mention of hunting. "I am not a hunter. I was always a protector. When Hoto wanted his meat he shot it with his bow and did what he would with it on his own, rarely asking for my help besides a higher place to see. I'm a grass eater sweetheart." He paused to let her continue she seemed to need to respond to everything. Take everything in. She was sweet and her concern and interest touched him. "Charming am I? Now there's a new one." He chucked but again stopped to let her go on about her family. "Did you know that cerynei are often refereed to as Bucks and Does instead of Stallions and Mares. Though the later titles still hold true. A deer I could not breed with..." his eyes flashed mischief "...but you...". He laughed and enjoyed the gaiety of his forward joke. "But to be truthful I think I would like to love my lady. I have seen what love can do. Both good and bad. But then I look at my partner and his new wife and feel a pang. Something I have never experienced. I have never wanted to simple spread around my genes. But with love I think I might good with sharing a life. New life and all." He wondered why he'd suddenly turned philosophical but still wanted to see her reaction.

She frowned for a moment looking at the face he was making "I never meant it in a bad way i just assumed that you might of done that with your two legger..I can see you being a great protector though..I would of never though you a meat eater the only ones i know who are..those skinwalkers and kalonas.." she frowned and looked around as if one might be watching them. She wanted to keep spending time with this stallion she was bonding and growing closer with him becoming friends rather than strangers. "Very charming and you do have the looks to back you up" she smiles and nods at his markings "I would love to fall for a stallion like you brave and honest..noble..with a interesting bloodline" she looks up at him when she hears what he says about her breed "I never knew that..i can see why though i look nothing like a mare..one might think me a doe and move on without a second glance..I am a mare in blood and in heart" she smiles again "Oh what if a certain someone was half deer?" she winks at him seeing his eyes glint with mischief "Me? Even if i might not be a mare at all? Oh why thank you you must really like me" she joins him in laughing but if he did like her she was willing to say she liked him to.
"I would like to love my knight..Love is a kind thing it heals those who have been broken..It can also break them even more but often love unites..I do understand you feeling something when you see the two leggers in love you feel jealous but at the same time happy..You want someone to share your life with as do i" she looks up at him again "Sharing your life with the one you love is the best thing you could ever do..it would not be spreading genes just to do it..it would be out of love and compassion..a time to start over and forget the past you cannot change the past but you can shape your future" she nods at him hoping he sees all the little hints that she said to lead him to realisine she had feelings for him.
