"Aah, did I really forget to pack that as well?" The ghoul groaned, burrowing her face in her hands after she finished sifting through the last of her suitcases. Really, leave it to her to forget to bring so much of her stuff when she moved to the dorms!
Pulling a notepad and pencil from her obi, she scanned down the list that was titled "Things I need to buy". Currently, only three items were listed: hairclips, hair ties, and envelopes. With a quick scribble, Xiu added "a new hat" to the end of the list, before flopping back on her bed with a sigh. She had liked that hat too! It hadn't been too fancy or silly looking for a ghoul her age, and it was such a nice shade of red, and--
"It was pretty old anyways," she murmured, though she still seemed disappointed, "I guess I can go out and pick up a new one." Fortunately, it was Spookday, so if she was going to go, today would be the day.
Tucking everything she would need into her obi (it was easier than bringing a bag, at least!) Xiu head out of the demon dorms, frowning to herself all the while. "Everything on my list is easy to find except...what kind of hat should I get?" Her last one had been handmade, so it would be impossible to find one just like it, and she wasn't sure what kind of hat styles were popular these days either.
Sad face. This wasn't going to be easy.

Aaaaah Spookday! A day to find some fun~. But so far, Mot was having no luck at finding fun. His usual gambling spots were lame or dead, and he had no one to hang out with. So unfair!
But what was this? A sad ghoul? That would not do! Mot hated to see a ghoul look so down. Especially one who looked vaguely familiar.
"Howdy, miss. I couldn't help but overhear something about a hat?" The lady had been talking to herself, after all. He had appeared quietly beside her, leaning out in front of her to stop her pace.

The boil's sudden appearance gave Xiu quite a start, resulting in the Baku jumping a foot in the air before whirling around to face him. "Uh, h-howdy," she echoed automatically, staring at him wide-eyed. Then her words sunk in and she flushed with embarrassment, "I mean...um, hi. Hello."
"Something about a hat? Oh, yes. I...I was about to pay a visit to the maul to find a new hat." And speaking of hats, this guy was wearing one. A very familiar one. Taking a step back, Xiu gave the boil a look-over, suddenly certain that she had met him before (or at least, she vaguely recalled having complimented that exact hat before), but from where--
"--oh! You're Lizzy's friend, aren't you?" They had met at the Open House! That was it! And...oh jackdamnit, what was his name? It started with an "m". Mat? Moat?
"...Um. Mot?"

Mot merely smiled nicely as the ghoul recovered from her startled state. Timid little thing, she seemed to be. Adorable. She was about to shop for a hat was it? Interesting.
"That's me~." He replied with a nod. Lizzy's friend he was indeed. "Wow. Good memory. So you are from the Open House after all. Your name was...." Ghouls. He tried his best to keep a mental record of their names. He had only met the ghoul briefly but he was sure he knew her name. "Xiu, yes?"
"I'm not busy. Mind letting em tag along to the maul?" He asked with a pleased and hopeful smile.

"You have a pretty good memory yourself," she chirped, her smile making her look considerably brighter compared to the frown she had been wearing moments ago, "Xiu is right! It's nice to see you again."
His request caught her off guard and, for a moment, all she could do was blink owlishly at him. "You want to...come with me?" Most boils didn't seem to like going to the maul--at least, her big brother never liked accompanying her--so it was a rather unexpected offer. However, if he really didn't have any other plans and wanted to go, it wasn't as if Xiu would deny him.
"You're definitely welcome to! You look like you know how to pick a good hat, so if you're fine with it, I'll have to enlist your help. Two pairs of eyes are better than one." Well, that was assuming that Mot did indeed have eyes hidden beneath the brim of his hat. Right now--and even back when they had first met--all she could see was a perpetual shadow cast over the top half of his face.
...But he really did have eyes, right? Furrowing her brows, Xiu tilted her head at an angle, and stared up at the boil.

"Yes." He replied. Was that odd? She seemed surprised. Was it because they did not know each other that well? It mattered very little to Mot. She seemed delighted all the same. "I tend to be biased in my opinion of hats, but I shall help to the best of my abilities." He said with a nod and keen smile.
He looked down at the little ghoul as she studied his face, tilting his head in curiosity. "Is... something the matter? You look concerned."

"Glad to have you come along then," she beamed, returning his nod with an enthusiastic one of her own, "Biased or not, I appreciate having you for a second opinion." That, and the fact that it would be nice to have some company, even if they were practically strangers.
Realizing that she had been caught staring, Xiu put her hands up, palms outwards, and shook her head quickly. "W-what? No! Nope! Nothing!" She tried to look innocent, but, having been caught, her cheeks had taken on a pink tint and her tail was twitching nervously.
She decided not the bring up the topic. Besides, he probably had eyes under there, right? Nothing to worry about! And it wasn't as if it was really scary if he didn't have any eyes, or if he had empty, gaping sockets where--...
"Mot, can you do me a favour?" Xiu asked abruptly, clasping her hands together in front of her, "Lift the brim of your hat, just a little?"

Nothing at all? She seemed slightly rather very startled and distracted. Nervous little thing she seemed to be, though.
He tilted his head as she clasped her hands, asking a favour. What could she need? Mot hardly refused the request of a ghoul.
Lifting the brim of his hat. Well, she didn't ask im to remove it, so there was little harm. He paused though, staring at her for a moment, before slowly lifting the brim of his hat. The shadow it had cast on his face was lightened slightly, showing off redish-brown eyes gazing downward at the little ghoul. "Liiike this?" He asked curiously. What was she looking for exactly?

OH THANK JACK.
With the hat lifted slightly, she could just make out his eyes, and--without even realizing it--she suddenly emitted a huge sigh of relief. "You have eyes!" There was a pause, and then she squeaked, her tail lashing side to side to express her panic, "...U-UH WAIT, I meant that you have...very nice eyes! Nice eyes. Brown." Well, she thought that they looked kind of brownish. It had been hard to tell considering that her main focus has been to check if he had any eyes at all. Which he did.
She blushed at her eloquence--or rather, lack of--and rubbed the back of her head with a sheepish grin. "A-anyways. Shall we go?"

Mot stared blankly at the ghoul, seeming to have won something, with all that sudden excitement. Yes, he had eyes. Didn't most people? He watched silently as she started to fluster, and let her go on her little rant. He smirked, finding it hilariously adorable. "Why thank you." He said simply. For now, he would settle for not teasing her.
For now.
The opportunity and desire to tease was very much there. He just needed to ponder and plot.
"We shall." He offered his arm to escort the ghoul to the maul. "I'll find you a hat worthy of your pretty little head."

Relieved by his answer--and the fact that he didn't press her, in hindsight, very awkward exclamation--she took his arm and simply smiled up at the tall boil. She appreciated his help and gentlemanly attitude, but she also didn't trust herself to speak right now without blurting out another embarrassing comment. "You have eyes" indeed. From here on out, she was going to call this the "Mot's eyes incident".
Mentally, mind you.
As they went off on their way to the maul, she did loosen up enough to carry on a simple and pleasant conversation. They talked of idle things, such as the clubs and classes at school. In the end, with all the chatting they had done, the trip felt much shorter than Xiu had anticipated it to be.
The moment they entered the maul, the small ghoul's began to scan over the stores, a smile immediately lighting up her face as she located their destination: a large hat store that was situated only a few meters away. "Okay Mot," she said, grabbing the long ends of her obi and giving a little cursty, "I'm in your care."

Mot smirked at Xiu's ladylike curtsy, amused, so amused. "Great care shall be given." He looked over the store, very elated to regard it. A store for hats! All hats all the time! Never not hats! The boil stood and stared at it for a moment longer before a grin spread across his face. "Right. Hats. Lots of them." He wandered into the store, looking over all varieties of hats. All very nice, but he had something in mind! An era of hats from a ritzy style. Mot scanned them over, picking a few and taking Xiu a mirror. "Try these!" he said with an expectant look, holding therm out for her to take at her leisure. There was strange hats, large hats, small hats, and hardly-consider-it-a-hat hats.

Watching Mot picking out hats, Xiu decided that yes, she had been lucky he came along. Personally, she was still overwhelmed by the sheer amount of styles and colors that were available. If it were up to her, she wouldn't know where to start.
Obediently, she put on the hats one by one, starting with the beaded ha--...was that a hat? She turned it over in her hands, her brows knitting together with confusion before she shrugged and popped it onto her head. Possibly backwards. She wasn't really sure.
..."I...it doesn't suit me, does it?" Laughing, she removed the hat--headpiece?--and moved on to Mot's other choices.
She did like the next one though, granted that it was a little elaborate with its feathers and...well, she wasn't really sure what that was decorating the hat.
The small hat, Xiu decided, was pretty cute. It was simple, but it was red and had flowers--two of the Baku ghoul's favourite things. "Hmm, maybe this one?" she mused, frowning into the mirror. Or was it too simple? She did have a lot of red and flowery things already.
The last one she tried was a tad big, and it wasn't just the wideness of the brim either. It was big in the fact that it wouldn't sit on her head correctly, sliding down and obscuring her eyes from view. Even so, like with the other hats, she turned around to face Mot for his opinion. "Um, what do you think?" She pushed the hat back in an attempt to keep it out of her eyes. It remained for a second, and then promptly flopped back down again, earning a pout from Xiu.

Mot laughed along with Xiu at the strange beaded hat, shaking his head. "You look good, but another hat would suit you better." All ghouls looked good all the time. That was fact! Some things better than others!
Mot nodded at the small hat, smiling as she tried it on. "It's nice! But maybe another one." It just didn't suit her much, in Mot's opinion. Almost as much as the last one didn't.
Mot chuckled at the vast hugeness of the last hat, watching as it swallowed her head. "Ha ha! It covers your pretty face too much. So it's a no go." Mot shook his head and shrugged. "Oh well, lets try some different hats." He said encouragingly. "I'm sure we'll find something eventually."

"Finding the perfect hat certainly is hard," Xiu sighed, though the smile had returned to her face, "But I'll definitely something that suits me!" With that said, she turned and marched back with determination towards the rows of hats, picking some out at random. By the time she had returned to Mot and the mirrors, her arms were full of hats of varying size and colors. Putting the pile down on a nearby chair, she tried on the hats one by one.
The first was a little too flamboyant for her tastes, while another could have used a ribbon or two (or five). "...Um, maybe I should have been a little more selective with my choices." The next hat seemed to agree with that statement as, after picking it up and staring at it blankly, Xiu immediately put it back down and moved onto the next one.
Busy tying the ribbon of her next choice, she glanced at Mot in the mirror's reflection. "Did it take you this long to find a hat too?" She asked, assuming that he had gone through the same, or at least similar, process.
