Alexis always passed the Arcade on her way to work, today on her small trip out for a run she'd decided to go into visit and see what they had. Pausing at a game that said dance dance revolution, she seemed to ponder it before deciding to try it out.
Going to get some change for the machine Alexis walked back and started trying to choose a song, stopping at 'Little butterfly'. Deciding that sounded like it might be a good starter, when the game started she tried to keep up but suddenly found herself tripping off the platform into another person.
"Uh.... oh... I'm sorry." She said blushing, embarrassed she'd actually tripped over her own feet.

That other person just so happened to be Corey.
He had been crouching at a nearby machine, tinkering with the coin intake and outtake with a small screw driver. Ever so slightly his shoulders had rocked to the familiar tune spewing out of the DDR machine, and it was barely out of the corner of his eye that he noticed something coming towards him. It wasn't enough to catch her in some heroic 'tada' fashion.. it was barely enough to keep himself from tumbling over to the floor himself. With an umph and a groan he took the brunt of her fall, and helped her stable herself once more. "Gettin' a little TOO into it huh?" He teased mildly.
"You're going to lose your game twinkle toes if you don't pay attention." It was a pleasant tease, the smile on his face good hearted. And as if to make his point the game was beginning to flash in warning as step after step was missed. She better hurry!

Alexis blinked as the game started flashing, "ACK!" She started trying to get back on track and not lose but unfortunately for her, she was a few steps too late and the game ended.
Alexis' hands went to her hips as she looked at the machine, dignity had been lost as well as her ego pounded. Her nose wrinkled in a fashion similar to distaste. "Stupid game, I swear I don't know how the kids keep up with this." Maybe she had picked on that was too hard of a level, but Alexis wasn't about to admit that.
"Do you play this?" She looked at Corey, wondering if it was just her or if other people had trouble too.

He watched mildly as she tried to regain her footing, failing in the end to finish the song. She seemed a tiny bit older then his usual crowd, and female of course, certainly cute enough. And he was all the more pulled in by the adorable look of frusteration that crossed her face, forgetting his work to rest against the back bar of the step platform as she vented. "Your first time then?"
"I can show you how to switch it to light or beginner mode until you get the hang of it."
To her question he nodded a bit. He was pretty decent at it. Could handle some of the songs on hard mode, could flail around like a fool like a real pro. But he wasn't like those awesome synchronized couples, or people who like spun and flipped like ninjas while hitting a perfect on every arrow. "It's not my favorite but it's fun for when you've got a lot of pent up energy."
"Corey" He offered his name and hand abruptly. They were talk right? That was as good as being friends, and one could never have too many 'girl' friends.

Alexis nodded still staring at the machine after it finished recounting how horrible she had done. "Yes, my first time." She paused when he offered to show her how to do light mode, "Well.... I guess you can." She didn't want to admit she needed a starter level.
Obviously she wanted to be as good as the kids though, so everyone had to start out somewhere. She was listening to him, "I normally do workouts with the TV, Richard Simmons is at least funny to watch while working out."
She turned to look at him taking the offered hand, "Alexis, I teach Art at Knightside. I have to keep up with the kids and what they like to do these days so I'm not that uncool art teacher." She was laughing, as she stepped off the dance area. "So. Help me out and teach me?"

Teacher huh? A look crossed his face that could clearly be read by anyone with half a clue. A slew of inappropriate teacher jokes and sayings zipping through his mind. Would she smack him with her ruler if he didn't do a good enough job? Heh... He shook her hand pleasantly in return.
"Art teachers are always cool. They're like.. the reprieve from math and social studies, without being as potentially scary as the PE ones." He assured her as he slid around the machine, popping a coin for himself while he waited for her to do the same. "And if you care enough to try and keep up..." Well, she really didn't have a whole lot to worry about.
Pointing down at the arrows on the console, he showed her how pressing one way or the other increased or decreased the difficulty. "The more feet the harder a song is. But since you do those kind of workouts, this shouldn't be a problem. You've already got the 'looking to the screen' portion of it down." Richard was awesome. Corey totally remembered laughing his butt off to those 'Sweatin with the Oldies' they occassional worked out to in gym class in bad winter weather.
"It's just a point of getting the idea of the game down first and then you'll be a pro in no time." He winked and waited for her to chose a song, her side set to beginner, his side to normal. He'd thought about doing hard just to try and impress, but decided being able to talk normally as opposed to panting after the fact was the better choice.

Alexis smiled, "That's why I teach art. I'd rather have students that like me than students that don't." She was laughing. "At least I know what my students like, hopefully. Either that or I'm a generation behind."
She placed in another coin before she nodded, "Yeah? Okay so..." She picked another song and decreased the number of feet by one. "How long did it take you?" She asked as she made sure it was on light mode stretching out for a second. "Lets see how this goes."
She watched, "If I don't trip again." She giggled.

"Me or the bar will catch you" He teased softly as the song began. She would find the arrows coming slower now giving her a little more time to match her foot to the screen. For him the pace wasn't too incredibly slow or fast, his feet slapping the arrows fairly regularly in time.
"I guess I've been playing it since we got the machines in. A few years. There is another one that lets you dance with your hands more if you end up not liking this one."
"It doesn't take long though to get the hang of it. It's just a point of knowing what you need to do for each set of arrows. In the end practicing just let's you do the faster and harder songs. It can get so routine that some people make up their own choreography to mix it up a bit"

Alexis gave a giggle, "If you say so." She watched the Arrows and attempted to do it in time this time, it was easier so to speak. Her feet touching the arrows trying to keep time. She still missed some but it wasn't as bad as trying on a harder mode where she'd fall over herself.
She nodded, "Ah so you've had time to practice a good bit then." She looked at him keeping the corner of her eye on the screen. "Dance with your hands?" She looked confused at that but eh maybe he could show her later. She turned her attention back to the screen.
"How many people have you seen do something like that? The choreography that is..."

Left, right, up.. down down.. right. Jump and left!
"Yeah, Para Para Paradise. It's like laser sensored or something like that. You go like.. whohhhhhh with your hands to the music based on the screen." His arms did some less than awesome looking flailing and wiggling in description for a moment before falling back to his sides for balance.
"Mmm.. you don't see it quite so often anymore. A few years back this game is THE game and then you saw it quite a bit. It's still popular but man when it first came out there was never not a line of atleast 2 or 3 people waiting for a chance." The game had been enough of a cash cow that he actually had two of them.. one of the older machines with the older set of songs upstairs and the most recent one down here.
"It's really good exercise if you do it routinely."

Right, right, down, up, left....
"Oh, it sounds like an interesting game. It's not like the new X-box accessories is it? Where you plug in that bar thing and it follows your movement." She'd always wanted to try one of those but with her salary she'd actually have to save up a while... and there was this dress she wanted for an art gallery...
She nodded, "It's a shame to hear such interesting games go out of fashion, I guess that's all part of consumers and marketing though." She seemed to be thinking about the economic standpoint of such things and how often they fail to continue to be popular. "Sorta like we thought robots would be the next big craze."
She nodded, "I bet it is. This seems to be a decent work out too."
Up, down, left, left... miss... Alexis frowned at the screen.

"The Kinect?" He looked towards her a little bit more impressed. It wasn't too incredibly often someone around his own age shared gaming knowledge or any passion. How many times had he been told to grow up in his lifetime? "A little bit like that actually"
"I try to keep a pretty good collection of the old and new around here, because no matter how much something fades in popularity there is always the stray fan or two that'll miss it if it's gone."
The song ended, and Corey paused, taking a breath and a moment to relax before the next song was chosen. "Gotta love DDR though. It's brought more people in to the arcade that doesn't usually play then almost anything else I can think of."

"Yes that. I also have that Wii fit thing. They have yoga and what not. It's nice to work out to other things besides Richard Simmons sometimes." She smiled with a grin. "Before I didn't really bother with game systems 'cause they weren't that active."
She nodded looking around the arcade when the game ended, "I may eventually have to try other games. It's just nice to be able to work out and not have to worry about not having fun in the process."
She nodded, "I bet that is nice, plus they're having fun and getting exercise sometimes kids don't get that as much as they use to these days." She stretched slighting before leaning back onto the bar and placing her hands there to steady herself. "I'll have to keep coming in myself. I don't have anything like this in my work out collection."

"Yeah, the surge of active games has been really nice. Parents can't just complain that children are rotting their brains and bodies over consoles anymore. Still get the violence complaint a lot but ehh.. gotta choose your battles"
The next song started up, the thrum of techno base met by the high pitched voices of Japanese girls. He began to move again, arms spread out mildly.
"You dieting then or something?" It didn't dawn on him that it was perhaps not the question you asked a girl.. but that was usually the reasoning behind looking for exercise that you didn't get bored with. "Or just a workout-aholic? "

Alexis nodded, "Well there could be worse games." She gave a nod that the parents needed to choose battles and live with what they got. "Well I mean they show worse things on TV anyways."
She watched as the next song came on she started moving again trying to keep up. "No I'm not dieting." She said with a roll of her eyes. "I just enjoy keeping in shape, it's hard when you work with little kids to keep up with them if you don't keep in shape." She often helped with most of the activities that needed teachers that could run and catch kids as well as anything to do with the arts including set scenes for plays. "I'm probably one of the more active adults that want to keep up with the kids instead of fall behind."
