Rei had been in a downright foul mood lately. He’d been getting into fights with a ridiculous frequency ever since he’d met the crazy red lioness – Sabia, wasn’t it? – and he’d already decided that he would make his way back to the Pridelands. Well, it wasn’t exactly the Pridelands that called to him though the sight of the beautiful lands was certainly missed. But the orange lion was slowly coming to terms with the fact that it was Mzuza that he missed the most and that he had to return and see if he could still fix the greatest mistake of his life. Whether she was willing to forgive his desertion was another story altogether but he (anxiously) hoped this was one mistake he could remedy. He lowered his head to take a few laps of water. He'd made a brief stop at a small waterhole and was almost ready to get back on his way. The sooner he returned the better after all.

Kizuka-bui reached the watering hole, looking out for any other creature (particularly lions) that might give him a hard time. He noticed a male lion right off the bat and inwardly groaned. He just had to see one. Trying his best not to ignore the bigger feline, his casually strolled over to the edge of the watering hole, making sure to keep a large amount of distance inbetween them. The last thing he wanted right now was to be picked on by those damned felines. He bent his head down slowly, lapping up the cold water and hoping to the gods that his white pelt would suddenly appear as brown as the dirt.

Rei’s head turned abruptly to watch the pale newcomer and the orange lion become eerily still. Honestly, he didn’t really know how to react around hyenas. He’d never had a meal stolen by a pack – quite the opposite really. He’d made himself a guest in a hyena feast more than once and while he’d never encountered trouble with a large hyena pack, he’d never really met one either. His family had never been particularly fond of them and the Pridelands also had their little pet grudge against them. Lions and hyenas tended to keep a distance between them, after all and Rei realized this was the first time he was actually looking a one single hyena up close – well, as close as the fellow had dared to approach. Funny looking things they were…
Well, if he was that thirsty that he would risk angering a lion, Rei wasn’t going to be the first to open hostilities. He wasn’t planning on being particularly friendly either so it was with only an intense stare and a discreet line of ruffled hairs along his back that greeted the pale hyena.

Kizuka had to focus to keep his eyes from wandering, though he could see from the corner of his eyes the color of the lion. Ugh, he thought with disgust, that stupid mane they had, and it grew around their necks. He'd seen some messier males get bits and pieces of food and dirt get stuck in there, how disgusting and vile.
The hyena lifted his head up after his rather long drink, he decided the best thing to do would be to just leave. The faster he got away from a lion, the more comfortable he would be.
He took a wrong turn though, meaning to face the other way, but instead ended up facing the lion. Kizuka froze momentarily, his crimson eyes staring at the lion.

Rei’s tail twitched and he eyed white fellow even more intently when the hyena turned. Was he trying to bully the lion out of his spot? Or perhaps trying to start a conversation…? Either way, Rei tried to ignore the uneasiness that came with being stared at in silence.
“Hello there.” White was such a peaceful color – so easily stained by blood. The young lion exhaled as he released some of the tension in his body and decided that the lone hyena was probably not trying to intimidate him. He might as well play along with the situation and see where it went.

Why was the brute talking to him? Didn't he know that he just wanted to be left in peace? Still, being the nice guy he was, Kizuka nodded slightly, "...Hi..." he said slowly, shifting from paw to paw and wondering what the lion wanted from him.
"...Is there...something you need...?" he asked, deciding it was best to avoid eye contact, that way he wouldn't have to stare at the lion and keep criticizing him in his mind.
He couldn't help but notice the male was a nice shade of brown and chestnut. He couldn't help but be quite jealous; he had always wanted a natural colored pelt, his white one making him stick out like a sore thumb both in the day and nighttime. Really, he just wanted to blend in with everyone.

It finally occurred to Rei that the hyena might be feeling a little intimidated by the lion’s presence. He felt guilty about it, mainly because it gave a small amount of pleasure to be feared rather than attacked (which seemed to have occurred more often than not during his last encounters with rogue characters). Still, Rei wasn’t a bully and he didn’t particularly like to see others uncomfortable or afraid especially if he was the cause of the unrest.
“Mmm? No, not really.” he sat down and scratched an ear with his back paw, looking suddenly relaxed. “I’m Rei. I’m just making a quick stop here.” There. He was letting the fellow know that the lion wouldn’t stay for very long so the pale hyena didn’t have to rush whatever he was doing and leave. Now, how would he react to an introduction from a lion...?

"Alright then." Kizu replied back, trying his best to stay casual and loose. He would have to appear cool and calm. Make this lion jealous of this beautiful hyena in front of him. Make him wish that he was a hyena. Though he highly doubted this would even work. He was practically a nervous mess, just hoping to the gods that this lion wouldn't just suddenly attack him.
"I'm Kizuka-bui..." he said a bit warily, wondering if it was smart he gave out his real name to a lion. What if this 'Rei' came around later, wandering around the savannah looking for him and coming to kill him in the middle of the night or some other time where his guard would be down. And how did he know if 'Rei' was his real name? It was much too short to be a real actual name. Unless if that was just a nickname or something. Or was he just thinking too hard about this.

“That’s a cool name…” the orange lion said absentmindedly, lowering his body to take a few more laps of water before finally standing up and taking one good look around. Now, which way to the Pridelands, he thought to himself, silently retracing his steps. “I’m going to the Pridelands.” He said with a long stretch before eyeing the hyena again. He noticed his eyes this time, which had appeared red at first – and Rei had met his share of red-eyed creature in the rogue lands – were actually of a deep pinkish, purplish color. It matched his coat, the lion supposed though he wasn’t planning on complementing the hyena’s appearance anytime soon.

"Thanks." he muttered, trying to calm himself, though he couldn't help but tense up when he saw 'Rei' stretch out. He wondered when it was his cue to leave, perhaps when the lion left first? He could just go the other way so there would be no chance that he would bump into the other again. Or at least for a long time.
The Pridelands? What a typical lion. Kizu couldn't help but roll his eyes. "Okay." he merely said, knowing that he definitely didn't have the guts to say otherwise to Rei. Or at least to Rei's face. Though he would like it if the male would stop staring at him. It was getting quite unnerving right now.

Rei glanced at the hyena, trying not to grin. He wasn’t getting many words out of the pale fellow, was he? He supposed Rei was rather imposing for a smaller creature like Kizuka but he truly wasn’t trying to scare him. He almost tried to reassure Kizuka of his safety but couldn’t find words that didn’t sound unbearably condescending so he said nothing on teh matter.
“There’s a hyena pack there. Well, in that area. I was told most of the hyenas there were white, grey and black… you might fit there. I mean, if you’re alone, right now.” And disliked being alone, of course. Rei had had his share of Rogue Lands excitement but that didn’t mean Kizuka felt the same way. “Anyway, I think I’ll get back on my way. Nice meeting you.” Sort of. It was an odd meeting, after all.

Oh thank the gods. He was finally leaving now. Now he could finally leave and be on his way. White, grey, and black, huh? Packs with his own kind didn't really interest him though. He liked being alone. It was enough when there were so many other rogues like him around here. If he ever for some reason felt lonely he could just go out and find someone to talk to, like this guy for instance.
"Thanks, but no thanks." he said, "Packs with other hyenas don't really interest me." he shrugged it off. Maybe lions needed company to survive, but he didn't.
"Yeah...you too." he said, watching Rei leave. What an interesting encounter.

“Oh well, might be for the better. It doesn’t seem like the Pridelands and the Graveyard pack get along very well.” Well, that was the understatement of the day. In a way, it was almost as if he had just invited Kizuka to join his future enemies.
“Take care, Kizuka-bui.” Rei said with a small grin, finally turning his back on the hyena. Maybe they weren’t so bad, after all. Of course, meeting one hyena and meeting a full pack of them were two very different things and Rei was aware that those kind of meetings didn’t always end well for the feline side. Hopefully, that was something he wouldn’t need to find out through personal experience. - Fin -
