Twi was scouring the rooftops of Durem, like he usually did, headed towards the Watchtower to watch the sun rise. but this time, he was surveying the town below as he did.
when he left the Tavern he told his new friend, Chrissy, that he merely meant to see the sunrise then go to bed. in truth, he wanted to get a head start on the investigation he said he'd run. the mornings in Durem were full of surprises, and he wanted to know where to ask questions when he got more info from Chrissy.
it wasn't long before the sun came up. like most mornings, his eyes watered at the sight, nd his skin was smoking by the time he finally sought shelter. to him, it was worthe it. he fluttered swiftly down the stairs of the Watchtower and through the back door, before going down an alley and into a manhole. heknew the sewers well enough to avoid the Kuros and still get home in time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
the next night, he went to Durem for a quick bite to drink, then returned to the Tavern.
She was far too ecstatic to sleep, trying to compose little bits and pieces of memories of what she did have of her mother. Leaving the tavern like she always did in the morning, she did so to look for some sort of information on her mother and the sorceress Ka'iaa. Only the name seemed familiar with her, but not much else. However, that was pretty much all she knew, other than her own mother's name which is....She paused. "What was her name...?" She looked down at the patch of grass trying to remember something that should be basic. "I....don't even remember that much."
Gripping the bracer on her wrist, she frowns a little. "Hopefully Twi-kun is able to help. I'll have faith, but...." She drifted off, returning back to the tavern after her little walk in the forest far away.
((Sorry, super distracted now. ))
Twi had just gotten in long enough to get a drink of Whiskey, when Chrissy came in.
"ah, there you are." ^_^ he said with a smile. "I'm going to eed some information if I'm gonna look for your mom. if you want, you can come with me as I make some rounds."
he was hoping she'd be able to tell him what she remembered. it was more than difficult to match name to face if you didn't know either one.
"Hey, Twi-kun." She greets him with her usual smile while making her way over to give him a hug. "I usually like to take a little walk in the morning before I get started with work."
"Ah, yes, of course. I went back to the training grounds at home and tried to find some more information of my mother. Unfortunately, the records of high ranking mages are locked up. Assuming I can't find anything about my mother in the main library, I'm sure it's locked away for safe keeping. If I can get the key from the council, maybe I'll find something useful."
She nods her head at him. "Absolutely. I don't mind going with you." She smiles, hoping that she could remember what her mother's name was. But maybe the sorceress' name would be beneficial. It was worth a shot.
"wonderful. we can head out tonight, when you get off work. in the meantime, I can get that key for you. where i it?"
he wasn't shy about infiltration and burglary. he actually practiced it for fun and sport sometimes, and those practices usually involved placing the items back without notice after short periods of time.
and after all, it was for a good cause.
"Sounds good to me. I'll let Boss know I'll be out for a while." She smiles as she gets ready to head in the direction of her room to grab a few necessary items. However, something quickly dawned upon her as she paused in her stride and turned back.
When she turned around, she almost looked a bit pale as she gave a light and airy but obviously nervous chuckle. "Ah..The key....Well....It's stashed away in one of the security rooms. Unfortunately I'm not entirely sure which one, but if it's for records, I've heard other apprentices mentioned it is guarded by traps that can be unarmed a Latin password. Beyond that, there are rumors of Golems."
"well, then I may need to take you along with me on that one." he said. "you speak any Latin? and can you keep up without sacrificing stealth?"
he was speaking casually, but the serious undertones were clear to a trained ear or mind. he was trusting her word, showing his respect for her skill and potential, even as he worried for her safety. he meant to be responsible for her.
"I've been doing this thing for years, but I can tell you're a little green still. if anything happens, stay close."
"I thought you were going to do that anyway?" She smiles, showing her apparent mirth as she jokes a little with him. Truth be told, whether he did or didn't, she was going to go regardless, part of the reason is the council which normally wouldn't be a huge issue. But if it had anything to do with the records, she could at the very least provide some decent information for him. That, and she was more the eager to play a substantial role in finding the whereabouts of her mother -- whether the results are good...Or bad.
She blinks and looks up at him quickly from her reverie. "I can speak a little Latin. I'm not exactly very fluent, but if nothing else, I can study up on it some while we head out." She tilts her head tot he side curiously. "Sacrificing stealth? How different is that from regular stealth?" It probably should have been obvious to her, but it was always safe to make sure about the details. At least, that was her thoughts on it. When he mentioned the stealth, she didn't pick up on the undertones, but deep down she had a cold feeling lingering on the edge of her heart -- something akin to a little dread.
She nods her head some. "Well, it's not that I normally do things like this, but I'll do my best not to hinder you."
he chuckled, smiling at her.
"don't worry. I trust you. so this means we can be fast then, you know how to stay hidden. that's good. let's go, you lead."
he walked through his Portal Door, into his Mansion, and waited for her.
"where's the location of the building we're breaking into?" he asked her through the open door.
Her smile became big. "You better, Twi-kun." She giggles then nods her head. "Of course." She clasps the wrist with the jade band on it, wishing she can simply obliterate the charm that prevented her from using magic. "I feel this would be less cumbersome if I didn't have this bracer on." She mutters under her breath as she follows him through the portal right into his mansion.
"Mm....Well, if I remember correctly." She stretches one arm out as if using it as a compass hand, then does little turn on her heels. "South East on the campus near a large lake. It's hard to miss a rainforest in Malaysia that has an auspicious stone tower standing tall as the trees."
(Meanwhile, in said Malaysian jungle, a monk wanders....)
"I... am lost," Manguusu thought. "I should have brought a map... and a compass." He stopped and looked around. "I know there's a shrine near here, BUT WHERE IS IT?!" The shout scared off some birds. *Sigh* "I should have stayed in my bamboo grove." Sucking it up, he started walking again.
"Malaysia, ah?" mused the Dark Elf. "I don't have a Portal there yet. no matter, I have perfect means of transport. we'll simply go to Japan and then take a plane."
closing the door behind his friend, he turned a dial and then opened it again. they stepped into a bedroom suite that was fully furnished and decorated.
"this is the seat of power in Japan of a dear friend of mine. I'm not at liberty to discuss what I mean by that, but let's just say that the Kuro Gang aren't the only faction with a large underground."
he quickly picked up th phone on the side-table next to th ebed and pressed a quick-dial number.
"Scarlet, darling, it's Valthier. aye, I'm realy in Japan at thi stime of the year. ... heheh... aye, of course, dear. ... no, I'm not alone, and I don't have time for much dalliance. I'm in need of a plane to Malaysia. ... aye, work again. ... I know, so did I... eh, c'est le vie... alright, cioa, love."
hanging up with a playful smile he turned to face Chrissy again. "our ride shall be waiting for us at the airport. we just need to pick up our tickets at the Hotel Reception Desk. the elevator is just around the corner."
he led her through the bedroom door and around teh corner to the elevator. the sign on the wall indicated that theyw ere currently on the 16th floor.
