A Wandering Esper

Beloved Stargazer

PostPosted: Fri Jun 03, 2011 6:57 pm

He felt ready. In truth, he knew that he had the energy for quite some time, could have done the trip a long time ago, but now he felt ready. There was a logical suite of steps to take - sorting out his civilian life the best he could had been the first.

With that over with, it left the other side of him. Something he might never truly understand and sort out, but at least he would try. He didn't want to keep running anymore. Running had gotten him in his mess to begin with.

But craigcats did not lose their spots overnight. It was a slow process.

Themis was waiting, on the roof of his apartment building. Virgo would be here soon, and then they could go. It was the second time taking someone with him to his asteroid. Bellatrix had been rather uninterested in the whole concept, but it still felt like a part of him. It was nearly impossible to put into words.

Would something come out of it ? Time would only tell.

Elke had spent the last hour reviewing everything she knew about her past life, about the senshi of the Silver Millennium. If she pushed, she could uncover one or two faces that certainly weren't among the Zodiac--but they were fogged, and somehow she knew those memories hadn't been formed on the Surrounding. She could never remember what had happened there, just those faces and maybe attacks afterwards.

Why was Themis's world so clear? Perhaps his words had jogged the memory. She dearly wanted that memory to be real, and she had whispered a prayer to the Opal Crystal that it was as she henshined up. Virgo checked in with her Princess, and then it was to Grayson's apartment building to meet up with Themis.

That was another thing. Could she really go back to the Surrounding? Was there really a way for her to return to the place where Arista had spent her life? She couldn't believe how easy it seemed--just hit a button on this cell phone?

No way it was so easy. She clambered up onto the roof and offered Themis a bright smile. "Ready to go?"

Themis perked up at the sound of Viirgo's voice. His glasses were different - not the bulky black frames he'd had the last time she had seen him. It was rather easy to see at a glance.

"I am." He nodded, then sat down on the roof, motioning for her to do the same. He looked a little nervous, but then, it was only the second time he was taking someone along. He looked silly, but he always preferred to be sitting while doing this.

"You need to be holding onto me." He said, softly, as his phone took form in his hand. "At least that's how it worked for me - im not sure if you can take people without them touching you, but it's how it worked for me."

A flick of the wrist and the phone was open. "Every star... Every place... Has a song, a certain sound only you can hear. My asteroid... sings to me." The song always felt like the chime of ices to him. "You focus on that song, and push the middle button, and it should take you there."

Where was 'there' for Virgo, through, he wondered. He waited for her to be settled beside him before he closed his eyes, and focused. It always took some time, a few minutes.

Then, after those few minutes of silence, he pushed the button and the two senshi faded away, their auras flickering out.

They were gone.

They came back into a familiar place, for Themis at least - the courtyard of the castle. The large silver-baked tree was heavy with silvery blue leaves and pure white flowers, the silvery-green grass tall and very much alive.

Such a different picture than the first time he wandered here.

"So, if I just... zone out, just give me a few minutes." He said. "Sometimes I... see things."

She considered the changed glasses, and brushed it off as a normal change. Not a fuku change, as far as she recognized--and she scooted over to sit next to him. She wrapped her hands around his arm, carefully not clinging too tightly. Themis had a girlfriend, after all, a girl she was sure was very nice even if she hadn't met her yet. Perhaps she would, someday soon. It was something she would hope for.

As he spoke, she took out her own cellphone. It was green and bronze, mostly, matching her fuku; she considered the middle button for a moment. If she pushed that, would she go to the Surrounding or to Virgo-that-was? The memories of the abandoned castle brought a frown to her face. What kind of constellation senshi would ever even leave her place?

Virgo, obviously. The Princess commanded.

In that moment, the two senshi vanished.

She opened her eyes to gaze around the courtyard. "Okay," she said, patting him. She knew how it could be, and thought she might want a few minutes to see if she could force her memory to become clearer. But no; this courtyard was unfamiliar to her, even if the overall feel did remind her of the asteroid she'd visited more than a thousand years ago. "Do you know if this place has, like... a ballroom? Or a parlor? Maybe if we go to the place where we met then you or I will remember something!"

"Im... not sure." He clicked his tongue, and looked around. "This is usually as far as I go." Truth was... he was a little scared to go deeper. Scared of what he might see.

But he certainly not look like such a chicken in front of Virgo, couldn't he ? Certainly not.

"I know there's a large room over there." He pointed to a staircase made of pale gray rock, slightly frosted over. "Maybe we should go look ?"

And so he stepped toward that direction, making sure that she kept close. Through, really, it was hard to get lost in the castle... As far as he knew.

She nodded. She could see being apprehensive in a new place, far from help or even anyone friendly at all. Did senshi cell phones work across lightyears? Maybe, but how could anyone even get to you? She considered the green and bronze object in her hand, and then tucked it into... where-ever it went where she wasn't using it.

Gosh, she wished she had pockets!

"Don't worry," she said, taking his hand. "No one's gonna get us here. Space can be kinda scary, but you're with a Great Chaos Fighter." She flexed her free arm, making as big a muscle as she could.

It was not a very big muscle.

But it was still true: She knew, at least intellectually, a lot about fighting the Chaos monsters that had appeared on the Surrounding. Surely if any popped up here, she'd be ready? That in mind, she dragged Themis up the stairs behind her.

"I don't think there's anything here than can get us." He said, seeming rather certain of this fact as he started to scale the pale stone stairs, helped forward by Virgo's enthusiasm. "If there was, it would have jumped me while I was unaware. I have that kind of luck..."

When they had reached the top, there was a large room standing in front of them, with a pale blue carpet that had long since faded to an ever paler color stretching the length of the room. In the middle there was a large, rectangular table, the wood silverish and pale, faint hints of frost seemingly part of the wood itself. There were decorative chimes to be seen, all made of pure ice.

At the end the furthest away from the two, there was a large chair - the largest chair, not quite a throne, but clearly imposing and important.

To the right was another chair, slightly smaller. Both had symbols carved on the back.- resembling an highly stylized music note within a snowflake.

This was when the function of this room suddenly came back to him.

Council room.

And, just like that, Themis was 'gone', staring at the space in front of him seemingly blindly.

"I am uncertain, father." He was sitting in that chair, looking to his right - exactly where his father had been. He wasn't Sailor Themis - not yet. He also seemed older than in his last flashes of memory, if only by the sound of his voice.

"You shouldn't be." The older man answered, clearly more comfortable than his adopted son in this situation. "Having Soldier Virgo here is an honor - these is much she can teach us about keeping our own cluster safe."

"I know." He shook his head - his vision bobbed back and forth for a brief moment. "But I am uncertain if what I have to offer her in return will be worth her while."

The older man frowned. "You sell yourself short, Dae'Maern," Before more could be said, the rest of the council came - and he felt his power envelop him, becoming Sailor Themis just as their guests arrived.

A woman with vivid red hair and hauntingly familiar green eyes...

Virgo flicked a glance around the room. It was a little familiar, but not enough that she could say that she'd ever been specifically there and not a similar room on the Surrounding. Either could be likely, really, considering especially that she hadn't really regained as many memories as she had once assumed to have. It was big things, not small things; and it was driving her insane to not be able to remember doing small things with Huben. Just sitting with him... like she sat with Grayson?

She kept walking forward, unaware that Themis was standing completely still behind her; she touched the frost-covered table. It stunned her a little bit that no frost was actually on the wood. It seemed like it was part of the table itself!

Fascinating.

She turned back along the length of the room, felt the give of the carpet beneath her heels. Familiar, but again, not quite enough...

"Themis, do you think this was a meeting room of some kind?" The room in Chronos Castle like this had been a throne room, but it hadn't had a table. Zodiacs had a war room, but this didn't seem to be a war room either. She had the feeling that Themis had never been a world of many wars... not with the decorative chimes over there.

He hadn't answered yet, and she turned to him again, taking note of the blind eyes. "Themis, are you okay?"

It took a moment after she actually noticed his stillness before he finally reacted, shaking his head as if trying to shake a dream away. In a blink the room was once more empty and decayed, with only him and Virgo here.

"Sorry." He said, still having a sort of far-away look on his face. Dae'maern.

Had that.... been his name ?

"This was the council room." He spoke with such certainty that it was startling, and he stepped forward, side-stepping the chairs to sit in the second biggest one.

"I was sitting here." He said. He looked a little lost in the seat his past self had once taken. "And you came in... To discuss keeping this cluster safe ? I was nervous." Unsurprising, really.

"...You have the same eyes." He noticed suddenly. "The exact same color... But red hair. ...You look very different with blonde hair."

Irony right there.

She watched him closely, circling so she remained almost the same distance away. It worked so that she stood near the entrance, where Soldier Virgo in his memory had stood, as he sat in the chair. Why? Because she didn't want to disturb him, in case he was still seeing a memory. Her silence turned strangle reverent, and her green eyes seemed expectant.

Was this how others had felt before, hearing her stories of what existed before? But she'd never had this sort of... experience. It had all been practically beamed into her head, every important experience of past-Virgo's life and every detail of her death before Barren Pines.

"So I came in," she said, "and... do you see anything else? Why were you nervous? I don't think I ever would have hurt you. We talked and you seemed pretty happy!... Well... Shy. But happy!"

At the revelation about her eyes, she seemed legitimately surprised. Of course she knew Grayson had Huben's violet eyes. And the Princess had always had cherry-pink eyes. It was stupid to be surprised to hear that she and Arista had had the same green eyes. "We were talking about Chaos monsters," she reminisced.

The positions were right, but... No, nothing else seemed to come. The one time he truly wanted to see more, he couldn't seem to get anything to trigger. How frustrating !

"The vision cut off as you came in. They're... finky. I guess. I don't know how to truly trigger them. I just seem to see things whenever they decide to show themselves." He muttered, then shook his head.

"No, I wasn't scared. I wasn't afraid you'd harm me or anything. I was nervous because I... wasn't sure how to repay you ? 'But I am uncertain if what I have to offer her in return will be worth her while.' That's what I said. To my... father, I think ?"

Confusing. So confusing. "He spoke of you coming as a rarely seen honor. I guess I was nervous because I had never met someone so important before ?"

Chaos monsters... "That makes sense. 'there is much she can teach us about keeping our own cluster safe'. That was what he said to me. Before you came in."
PostPosted: Wed Jul 06, 2011 8:29 am

She shrugged a little bit. "We weren't really all that important," she said, guiltily. "We were the first line of defense, and we did give up our entire lives to make sure the Sol System was safe. But it wasn't like we really led anyone anywhere, not that I remember. I used to go to systems that needed a hand when things were really quiet at the Surrounding, though."

She tilted her head. It didn't seem in-character for Arista to have wanted payment at all. She would have been happy to be on Themis, to see other people beyond the small population of the Surrounding. Herself and one other, for most of her life.

"I was probably just a sailor when I came here," she said, "Although I guess my title still would have been Soldier? I don't know... But." She smiled at him, and bounded up the carpet to the chair he sat at. "Protecting people is always worthwhile, don't you know that? It's its own reward."

The green-clad senshi leaned forward and patted his hand. White Moon senshi could be so weird sometimes.

"I think... I just got nervous easily." Made sense since... Well, he himself could do that. And so far, from what he had noticed, him and... Dae'Maern... Had been very similar people indeed.

Similar enough to be startling, really.

"I don't think you asked anything of me, honestly. I got... the impression that it was just something I wanted to do, not something that had been required of demanded of me."
PostPosted: Sun Jul 17, 2011 8:28 pm

With a nod, she hopped down from the dias and looked around. "If you're not seeing anything else, maybe we should go," she said. Suddenly, she felt... kind of uncomfortable, that her past life might have been the type to inspire nervousness in Themis.

She didn't want to scare Themis, she liked him! A lot! Virgo sighed a little, frustrated. "I mean, if that's something you want to do?"

"It's probably a good idea... This is giving me a headache. Almost always do. The visions, I mean." He shook his head, then got up from his chair and walked to where Virgo was still standing.

He took out his phone, gave one last look to the room - as if to make sure it didn't want to reveal more of it's secrets - then the two senshi were gone, going straight back to Earth.
