The spouse went to see a new doctor today and I accompanied them for the visit. When the doctor came in, I noticed him looking at me kind of oddly as he introduced himself to the spouse and he then asked me if we had met before, which I found rather strange. It occurred to me after the appointment that I actually get this kind of often. When I first moved here and the spouse started introducing me to people, some of them thought they already knew me but couldn't remember my name... or that they had seen me around rather frequently. I believe there was even one time in which the spouse and I were both meeting someone for the first time, but the person thought that I was introducing them to the spouse because we'd previously already met.

Anyone else have this or something similar happen to them regularly?

I've never experienced it myself, but I've heard of this phenomenon. I can't remember what it's called, but some people just have really general features that lend themselves well to the face-mapping techniques of the human mind. This allows people to get that deja vu feeling.

I have a couple of times... mostly with people who've met my relatives though.

I have people tell me often that they know someone who looks just like me. It used to not bother me, but as I've gotten older and would like to be considered my own person, being compared to someone else has become irritating. In the past my response to them was "Yes, I have people tell me that all the time and one day the mother-ship will take us all back to our home planet...", but now it's more like "That's nice... *sneers*.

I've been mistaken for someone else a few different times in my life. So yeah, it appears that I have a double. Same goes for my brother.

General features? gonk But I'm a beautiful and unique snowflake!! scream rofl

When I was younger, I definitely would have credited it to people having met my siblings. People often said we look "exactly alike", even though I never thought we did. This was mostly when we were all in elementary school. When we got older, people were more so surprised that we were related. Where I live now, I'm pretty sure I haven't had any family around here. My siblings definitely have never lived out here, that's for sure.

What's kind of funny, the spouse and I have recently been watching the show "Sliders" and there are many instances of doubles happening in there. So maybe what happened is that these people I'm coming across had met a version of me from another dimension!

Back in my home town there was someone, whom i never met, that looked just like me apparently from afar, because people would call me by her name sometimes in public then get up to me and say they thought I was someone else. I also get mistaken for my sister quite often User Image Sayo User Image But then once here, some one asked me if I had a sister named something that is not my sisters name because they said I looked just like this other girl.

I've never really had that happen but then I hide in the background where I'm easily overlooked. ^^; I do get it on the phone a lot though but it's always people thinking I'm my mother. We sound so much alike even my gramma can't tell us apart.

I've noticed (because I've moved too many times) that when I land in a new town I often encounter people with a certain set of features that makes them look a LOT like somebody I knew in my previous town. So yeah, there really are people who just have "one of those faces". Also, I remember a period in time when that same thing happened to my mom a lot, but there was actually 1 specific person that people could name who they kept confusing her for.

Personally, though, I don't think I've ever had somebody do that to me.

When I was in hs, I had this one friend who kept switching schools between my school and the school I would have gone too. Everytime she did she kept saying, "You look exactly like this other girl at Cass!" Finally, I asked the name of the other girl and it was my best friend from middle school. xd We did look similar in face and had simliar glasses.

Interestingly, we were just talking about this at work today. I'm not even the one who brought it up. I realized that I'm quite often confused for one of my co-workers. They can't seem to remember who's who. I mean, we're both tall, have brown hair, and glasses. That's where the similarity ends, though... Yet they can't tell us apart unless we're right next to each other. People we've worked with for months, or even years. confused

Wow... that -is- pretty ridiculous, but perhaps it's a sign that your coworkers aren't very detail oriented. By that I mean, when they look at something, they likely only see the most prominent features rather than the finer and more intricate things. Those are the kind of people that you could easily hide something from them in plain sight.
