It was so quiet outside, the moon heavy and beautifully round, light trickling through the tree boughs into the water of the swamp. Golden eyes looked out from the shadows, and a red and blue doe steps into the moonlit clearing quietly. She'd been quietly wandering most of her life, ever alone, tending her garden, with a few breaks in the solitude by other kimeti stumbling into her home.

Grasswhistle munched quietly on some berries he found as his watersnake lay curled around his neck sleeping. They had a long day of hunting, and though Earthbound spent most of the day playing around than actually helping him catch fish, they managed to catch one or two to feed them. Well... it was mostly to feed Earthbound, and Whistle's stomach began to growl as his stomach began to feel the lack of food.

He froze as the snake stirred slightly in its sleep, tongue flickering, than settled back as it nuzzled its head around his head. Grasswhistle smiled and began chewing again. What he wouldn't do for this snake...

The berries weren't barely enough to satisfy his hunger, and he began to wander, wondering what kind of food he would be able to find as moonlight lit his path.

Free's ears flicked back and forth when she heard a noise nearby, and she turned, looking around. She didn't speak, because she wasn't quite sure if what was nearby was friendly or not. She glanced around, and then rolled her shoulders in a kind of shrug before going back to browsing around for snacks. She nibbled here and there at a berry bush, and then frowned slightly as she spotted something white and brown nearby. Curious, she stepped towards it, and sniffed in its direction. Isolated as she was, she could still recognize the scent of a buck, and she grinned slightly. "Hello?" she murmured softly, not wanting to startle him.

Ears perked up at the sound of rustling, and he looked about, trying to identify where it came from. He flinched slightly as he heard a voice right behind him, causing Earthbound to stir slightly. He slowly turned around, spotting a dark-coloured doe looking at him. He... really had to stop meeting other females this way. Not only was it startling, but it gave him no chance to act accordingly.

He turned so that he was completely facing the doe, and dipped his head in greeting.

"Hello," he whispered. "Sorry I didn't see you there. Pleasure to meet you. My name is-"

A decent-sized growl rumbled in his stomach, and Grasswhistle flustered, dipping his head down low so that he was staring at his own hooves.

"S-sorry," he muttered. "I haven't had much to eat yet."

Smiling slightly at the buck, Free lowered her head slightly, returning the greeting. "My name's Flowing Freely...Call me Free..." she grins, and then blushes a bit. "Would you like to come to my garden? Some of my plants are ripe already...And I've some lovely flowers ready for eating, if you'd like. I've even got a tide pool..." she smiled, and looked towards her little glade.

The mention of food only made him hungrier, and he was more than grateful to be offered some delicious plants, even if he craved some meat.

"That sounds positively lovely," he replied, bowing his head with gratitude. "Thank you." The mention of a tide pool already perked his interest, if not just the food, and he thanked the Motherswamp for providing for him.

Your stomach cut off your name, by the way...What is it?" Free asks, turning and trotting into the woods a ways, browsing on some berries, and collecting a few that were almost ready to fall anyway. She'd plant them, and have more berries next year. "The fish in the pool were a pain to try to get. Took me three days to get them from the river to the deep pool I keep them in."

Grasswhistle blinked, then flustered as he understood what Free asked.

"Oh ah-um, ah, how terribly rude of me," he stuttered, noticing that this was starting to become a re-occuring thing. Something he needed to fix. Clearing his throat, he regained his posture.

"My name is Grasswhistle. I apologize that I didn't introduce myself ear- well, RE-introduce myself again."

His ears perked at the mention of fish, and if he weren't in the presence of a lady, he was sure he would of started salivating at that moment.

"Oh, I may be able to help you with that," he replied, nudging Earthbound softly. The snake stirred yet did not wake. As Whistle stared at him, wondering what to do, he turned back to the doe. "Ah, um, how 'bout you lead me to the river and we can help you catch some more?

"Hm...Well, I've got enough for the moment, I suppose. But if you can take one or two without hurting or killing them, to put them in the pools, the river's right over...here..." Free smiles slightly, trotting away a bit. The sound of water trickling could be heard. The river itself was sluggish and shallow, and fish could be seen near the banks.

At Free's request, Whistle's ears drooped slightly. Not... hurt or kill them? Glancing over the river, he gave a little sigh as he saw the flicker of a tail and a small splash that followed. He really was hungry, but he promised he would help her, even if that meant it wasn't quite what he had in mind. But... if she didn't eat fish, what DID she eat?

Maybe he could try look for tree sn-- he stiffened as he felt Earthbound move. No, that wouldn't work either. And it wouldn't help if he was reminded of Earth every single time he saw one. Besides, what would that show Earth, that he supported cannibalism? He wasn't quite sure what he'd do with Earth started to help him catch tree snakes, but, then again, Earth couldn't really catch anything, so he didn't have to worry.

With another sigh, he headed towards the river. Maybe... he'd just resort to eating bugs.

"When we get back to the pools, you can have some of the older, larger fish that I've been raising," Free smiles over her shoulder at him. "I don't eat fish, myself, but I know a few Kimeti who do, and, judging by the ear droop you gave me, you do." She chuckles slightly as she looks into the water, and then tentatively steps in. "It's a little cold, but not too deep..."

His stomach growled as a testament to his hunger, and he flustered, seeing as Free noticed his ears drooped.

"Y-yes," he stuttered. "Fish is my main supply of meat, seeing as I can't... really eat snakes."

Well, maybe bugs could count, but... he wasn't really sure he wanted to eat insects. Especially after seeing how beautifully majestic giant moths could be.

Grasswhistle watched as Free stepped into the pool, and followed soon after. He shivered slightly at the cold touch or the water, but was glad for it, as it slightly made him more awake.

Now... where were those fish...

"I can understand that... How long have you had that snake of yours?" Free asks softly, staring down into the water quietly, curiously still. She was waiting for the first sign of a fish...And sure enough, a few moments later, she spotted one near Grasswhistle. "There's a fish to your left, Grasswhistle... Think you can get him?" she asks softly, a playful look in her eyes. She could tell there was another one nearby her own legs, and was waiting for it to get closer.

Grasswhistle scrunched up his eyes as he tried to remember. How... long did he have Earthbound for? He... couldn't really remember.

"I'm... not really sure," he replied sheepishly. "Not long though. He may not look it, but he's still young. He'll be a lot more troublesome when he's bigger though."

He could only imagine the kind of mischief the snake would drag him into. Not to mention, he'd probably be heavier to carry...

At mention of fish, his head immediately snapped to the water. He watched quietly as the fish swam around, daring enough to n** at his front legs. With a quick sweeping motion, he quickly stuck his face into the water, trying to catch it between his mouth, only to end up with a wet slap to the face and cold water up his nose.

He spluttered and blinked. "This is harder than I thought."

Free smiles, watching as he fails, and then easing her muzzle into the water. She is careful to take a deep breath before dipping her nose into the water. She waits until the fish swims by, and catches the fish by its tail, lifting it, and trotting over to a tidepool, dropping the fish in quickly. "Got mine! We need one more... maybe two, if we can manage it..." Free smiles, trotting back into the water. "Can you get the snake to help without swallowing them?
