It was a warm day. Not too hot as to make anyone with a dark coat really uncomfortable. But warm enough to make something really active difficult. Like hunting. Which was, unfortunately, what the black and white Hyena had hopes of doing today.
He preferred to do things by himself and not rely on his pack. He didn't join one to work together so much as just to have a safe place to live from now on. The roguelands could be dangerous for someone traveling all alone. And he had gotten tired of always watching his back for a lion. As well as just plain living near them. There didn't seem to be many Hyena packs around. A fact he didn't enjoy very well. Mava'Bunda looked so small. It was a shame.
Stopping for a moment, Itzal sniffed the air, catching the scent of something on a nearby rock. Narrowing his grey eyes, he spied something green piled on the flat surface. Almost the color of a vine...If vine's were stripped with another color. Lowering his body and creeping closer, he confirmed it was a snake, coiled on the rock to likely sunbath. Not a wise choice for the unfortunate reptile.
And indeed it wasn't. The snake in question wasn't paying much attention to his surroundings. Not until the wet jaws of a predator picked him up. At once, Dakarai squirmed and whipped the Hyena in the face with his tail. Caught off guard, Itzal dropped him and before he could make a dash towards the little creature, Dakarai had slithered up a nearby tree, completely out of reach.
Best not to tell his mother about this when he could go home...
Reaching the bottom of the tree, Itzal looked up at what would have been his dinner. "Blast it, snake," he growled. "You are a tricky one for someone who was caught so unaware. " In response, Dakarai's forked tongue flicked out of his mouth in what could only be a taunt. "You are lucky I can't climb."
