 Ak-kila had enough of class. She had spent all morning learning about the pride culture. It drove her crazy having to stay still and listen to their lesson, when she could be outside being a mature adult. Not only was she stuck there she was stuck there with cubs and juvenile. To make it worse most of them were immature, unlike her. She wished she had older friends that could understand her.
When they were let out of class she walked away from the other youths. She did not want the adult to associate her with them and their childish behavior. 'I need a break from them.' She decided as she walked toward the Wahdj Oasis, hoping none of the younger lions or lioness followed her. Perhaps there would be a couple adults there that she could befriend.
As she walked she daydreamed about finding a friend that, like her, was mature and wasn't into childish things. It would be a dream come true. She let out a loud sigh. Every time she did talk to an adult they would always suggest that she should play with others her own age. She had begun to wonder if there was anyone in the pride that could understand her.
When she arrived at the oasis she decided to have a quick drink after her long walk. It was a nice refresher after the long walk in the burning sun. Her dark fur didn't help with the heat.

The lion had been patrolling all morning and the afternoon sun was already beating down on his back. Though the day was still young so Kiume decided to head back to the Oasis to take a quick break. It took him a short while to trek from the edge of the border to the Oasis but he was glad he was heading there because the day was getting warmer and warmer.
Dipping his maw into the water, Kiume drank to his heart's content and had noticed the young lioness out of the corner of his eye. He greeted her with a soft voice, "Hello there." No matter who or where, Kiume always seemed to feel rather uncomfortable around females.

Ak-kila jumped when she heard the male lion. She had been distracted by her day dream and hadn't expected anyone to talk to her. "Hello." she mutter, a bit embarrassed. 'This was my chance to prove that I am an adult and here I am making a fool of myself already. Why oh why did I have to be startled when he talked?' She thought .
She looked at the male lion. He had a gorgeous coat of fur, she couldn't help but admire it. "My name is Ak-kila. It is nice to meet you," she said as sweetly as she could. She gave him one of her rare smiles and beamed up at him. Now wasn't the time for her to be shy, she told herself, there was a kind adult lion and he might just be the friend she was looking for.

Taking one last gulp of water, Kiume stood up to his full height and nodded stiffly at the young lioness. "Pleasure to meet you Ak-kila." Bowing his head slightly, Kiume almost fumbled on his own name when he went to respond to her. "My name is Kiume. I'm a Guardian and I just got off from patrolling. What brings you out here?" He had no idea why he had included that last bit about himself but it just seemed appropriate. He couldn't seem to shake his nervousness when he spoke to females. Even though he really didn't feel the need to impress all females, Kiume always felt like everything he said was wrong and that he was making a poor impression. It definitely didn't help that he always was a bit awkward. Though he was curious to know why she was out here even though she did seem a little older.

"You're a guardian. How impressive!" Ak-kila said with admiration. Not only was he an adult but he was also a warrior! Her dreams were slowly coming true. Maybe she, not only found a new friend, but maybe her future mate! She let out a sigh just thinking about it. 'I can't wait to tell my friends about this. They are going to be so jealous!' she thought with excitement.
She snapped back to reality. "It is very nice to meet you Kiume. I bet patrolling was an amazing adventure. You probably stopped a lot of invaders and had a couple fight-to-the death battles. You are so brave." She said swooning. "I bet you have a lot of lioness chasing after you, wanting you to be their mate."

He was a little shocked at her compliments because he really never received any. Kiume was a naturally humble lion so he would never go about boasting about himself even if it was warranted. "O-oh, it's really nothing. I just patrol a lot. Not much action considering the pride is pretty well hidden in the desert." Shaking his head, Kiume didn't even have any idea how to respond to her.
"It's nice to meet you too." Attempting to recover from his slight embarrassment, Kiume didn't know how to respond to her after that. "W-what?" Shaking his head once more, the lion had no idea where that came from! He couldn't help but chuckle nervously before formulating a response. "No... definitely not. Patrolling actually can get very boring... it's rare that anything really exciting happens and lionesses are hardly chasing after me..." So ironic that this young lioness had reminded him about what he was lacking in his life...

'He's modest too!' She could have squealed with delight. "Oh Kiume you are so sweet and modest." Ak-kila said with a cute little giggle. She batted her eyes at him, hoping to draw his attention. If the other lioness were so dull to not take an opurtunity and nab him up, she would have to do it. All the other lioness in the pride would be completely jealous of her!
"I was wondering what type of lioness do you like? Do you like cute, sweet adorable types or more mature types?" She had both of those types set, she thought. Even if she wasn't his type she would do what ever she could do to become his type. She started imagining their future cubs. Two males, two females, they would be the perfect family.

Modest? That wasn't an adjective that Kiume heard often... It didn't even really occur to him that she could be flirting with him or anything of the sort. Why would anybody want to flirt with him anyway? He did happen to notice her batting eyelashes but his interpretation of body language was completely wrong. "Are you alright? Do you have sand in your eyes?" It happened quite often in the desert and the winds tended to pick up at random intervals.
So not only was Kiume completely inept at flirting but he was also incapable of merely interacting with females period.
"Type of lioness? I don't know... I haven't really thought about it that much? I don't particularly talk to many lionesses in the first place..." He was well aware that his luck with females was pretty much horrible but he had never even thought about the perfect mate for him. It just never really seemed plausible. "They just have to get along with me... That would be nice." He felt himself beginning to muse out loud even though he should probably keep this to himself.

Ak-kila felt himself deflate when he asked if she had something in her eyes. She hoped that he would understand how she felt. Did he not see the way she felt about him? It was not an issue though. She would just have to be more straight forward about it. "I'm fine, but thank you for your concern. I love when a handsome lion is worried about me." She said shyly.
She almost squealed when he said that they would just have to get a long with him. That meant that she wouldn't have to change herself to be with him! He would fall in love with her for just being herself as long as she got along with him, which she knew she would. "I am pretty easy to get along with. Well that is as long as you don't ask the lions who think I am a brat." She said quickly.

His thoughts were wandering all over the place but then he immediately refocused on their conversation the moment he heard the word 'handsome.' What? What did she say? Kiume was completely caught off guard when she said that but he shook his head. Maybe he was just hearing things.
"Uh. Y-yeah." He was starting to stutter again... Kiume hated the fact that he couldn't control it. "That's good. You seem very nice so I don't know why anybody would think that you're a brat..." Saying that sincerely, Kiume didn't know what he was getting into by complimenting her. "It doesn't matter what other lions say anyway." Familiar with gossip, the lion had learned to turn the other way when it came to things like that. You were what you wanted to be and not just because other lions said so.

Ak-kila let out a loud sigh. He was really perfect. Unlike so many others he didn't think she was a brat, in fact she was certain he was in love with her. Who could blame him? She was gorgeous after all. This was it. She would confess her love for him and than someday in the future they would become a mated pair, with their many, many cubs.
She cleared her throat. Many times when she was bored she thought about how she was going to find her 'prince'. Never did she think it would be at oasis, but it was a decent enough spot. It could be worse. "Kiume, I know we just met and I know I am young, but, but I think I love you." She said, basically blurting it out. Her eyes went to the ground, feeling a bit embarrassed.

Kiume had dreams of his own perfect life and how he hoped to settle down some day. It was taking a long time... since he had arrived here, he really hadn't met any females that he hadn't completely screwed up with from the first meeting. He desired a family and a mate but that just didn't seem in the cards now.
His head was stuck deep in thought but was immediately brought back to reality at the realization of what she had just said. "What?" Was all that came to mind and Kiume was pretty sure that he didn't hear her properly. There was no way. She was so young and Kiume wasn't exactly in this situation often. He probably just misheard her.

Ak-kila was taken a back for a moment when he said what. She was expecting a different answer like 'what a brilliant idea!' "Kiume we never really pick the one we fall in love with. It just happens and I think I fell in love with you." She said carefully, hoping he would hear her words. "I mean- we would have to wait a little while, but that wouldn't be too hard would it? I'm already mature enough to be considered an adult."
She spoke nervously. This was the first time she confessed her feelings. Of course she had many crushes before this, but she had a feeling about this, that it was meant to be.
