"Ah. You know, Luce, it's bad luck to sleep on the table," a gentle voice sounded from beyond the Demi's closed eyelids. They fluttered open to reveal a cream-colored Lasirus only inches from his face.

"Woah! Korey, don't scare me like that," the Demi exclaimed, bolting upright. "And I thought I told you not to call me Luce. It's Lucien, I'll have you know."

"Aw, but it's a nice nickname," Korey whined, helping his friend off the table. "Oh! Right, I woke you up for a reason. Aren't you going to find that ancient oasis today? The so-called hidden treasure isn't gonna wait for you, ya know. Some other creatures' might've already gotten to it already."

"Alright, alright, I'm going. Are you sure you don't want to go?" Lucien asked, giving himself a quick grooming before grabbing his supply bag off the ground and swinging it over his shoulder. Last night had been a memorable one. Or had it? He couldn't remember.

"Nah, I'm fine here. I'll be waiting, though!" Korey replied quite cheerfully, giving Lucien a little push out the door. "Be sure to bring back some treasure for me!"

As the adventurous young Demi set off for the oasis, little did he know that the treasure he had been looking forward to would be completely different than he had imagined...

The Escalade's head hurt. Quite a bit, at that...She stood up on wobbly legs, and shook sand from her fur. Ardessa..She felt dizzy and ended up blinking stupidly up at the sun until she could properly recall her own name. The heated sand underfoot didn't burn her, it would take much, much more heat to do that.
The demi-Goddess glared at the cloudless sky, suddenly remembering a roar..Ot felt like a command, but she was still all jumbled up inside. Her memories wouldn't be perfect for a few more hours..

Groaning, the amber-and-orange Escalade trotted around, noticing a few palm trees and rocks around her. She smelled something, too, just beyond the boulder that she'd been plopped behind. Upon rounding the rock, she figured out what it was quite simply. The blue water lapped at the sand lazily, almost like a beach. The palm trees helped that effect.
"Perfect..Just perfect...Now I get to waltz around and figure out where all-"

Her head hurt, making her take in a gasp. She'd talk later, give it a few more minutes. her mind hadn't even cleared wholly, she wouldn't have been able to finish her sentence had she tried. The memories were still in a bunch and she couldn't think too clearly.

Had Dessa been in her right mind, she'd have remembered quite a bit..:

That roar, of course, had been the order, the command that landed her here...
Led to her being in the sand, this isolated place on Earth..The middle of nowhere...But no, that wasn't right. She was here because of her own stupid idea.
Of course, if she'd been allowed to watch from her perch up there, the outcome of her deed would be fun to witness. However, with her here to be part of the mess, were it to come...That wouldn't be pretty, not on her part.

"Ah...Water...Water..."

The Demi hauled himself over a sandy crest, overlooking a peaceful-looking oasis in the middle of the dead, dry desert. As skilled as a treasure-hunter he thought he was, even the heat had taken turn for the worst. The moment he had found that dreaded treasure-map, the Demi knew it was going to be trouble getting to the legendary hidden oasis, said to have an ancient treasure held below the surface. It had taken him all morning to reach that very spot, but his fatigue had gotten the better of him.

"Unf...Huh...? A beach? I-Impossible...Must be...a mirage..."

Looking up at the palm trees that had cast their shadows overtop of him, the Demi blinked drowsily, his eyes glazed over and dull. He shook his head, trying to keep himself awake as he crawled closer to the edge of the crest. He stared down into the clear blue water below, almost wishing he had never come to this godforsaken place, wishing he had never lost his mind trying to find it.

"K-Keep yourself together, Lucien...Gotta bring some back for...Korey..."

Lucien. An uncommon name for a commoner like himself. Thinking back on it now, the Demi wondered if his parents had any reason for it at all.

As Lucien tumbled over the edge of the crest and into the water, he thought of this. Lucien. Didn't that mean something in another language? Something along the lines of, 'Hidden Potential?' He didn't remember. And the last this he did was the flash of amber and orange in the corner of his eye as he plunged into the clear blue.

Ardessa had gone, strolling at a somewhat messy pace, over to the water and lapped at the surface. It looked surreal, as did the emarald palms, against the bland paleness of the desert, where, if you looked, you could see the heat quivering in the distance. She'd gone in, step by step, until it was up to her neck. It felt good, very nice. It made her was to slip off to sleep agai-

She heard something, and splashed quickly, and somewhat noisiliy, out of the water.
"Who on earth would be out in the middle of nowhere!?" She whispered, astounded, rounding the boulder a moment or two after hearing a splash and hoped whatever it was, whoever it was, hadn't seen her.
Then again...Didn't she need..somewhere to go? Her trail to the boulder was wobbley, and she noticed the headache return from her sudden movement.
"Stupid idea, stupid one..." Ardessa muttered, before walking out of the protection of the rock and back near the rippling oasis, tottering slightly.

Floating unconsciously, Lucien happened to be facing up, which meant he wouldn't be unconscious for long. The bright afternoon sun filtered through his eyelids, pulling his mind back to the present.

After blinking his way back to normal sight, the Demi found his footing on the soft, wet sand below, letting it sink in between his toes, giving him a ticklish, yet relaxing feeling. He let himself cool off for a short while before realizing he had come here for a reason. Looking around now, Lucien could not remember where he had left the treasure map before making a blunderous fall into the pool.

"Crud. Now I have no food, no map, and no supplies to last even one night..." the Demi groaned, making his way through the shallow water towards the shore.

Hopeless was the word he would use to describe himself in his current situation. Utterly hopeless. Wishing he had wings like Korey, Lucien looked up at the tallest palm tree he could find, and sighed. But, in the end, he would just have to suck it up and climb the darned thing. And he did just that.

As he clawed his way up the tree--trying not to de-claw his paws in the process--Lucien turned his head and tried to get a better look at the utopian oasis. Once he reached the top, he stretched himself across the leaves and surveyed the area.

How peaceful... he thought, feeling his consciousness starting to slip away yet again. But this time he got a hold of himself and vigorously shook his head, almost causing himself to lose his balance.

Then, after deciding he would not become a victim of falling to his death, Lucien started to climb back down the palm tree. Suddenly, as he scented the air, he caught a whiff of an unfamiliar creature. Stiffening his ears, the Demi carefully climbed slowly down the tree and slipped behind a rock. Now, how should be going about this? Not so much as to seem rude and interrupting, but enough to make himself known.

"I-Is there anyone out there?" he called. "If there is, can you give me a reply?"

Just as the stranger surfaced, Ardessa had made the decision to stay in the shelter of the boulders. What if it could over power her? Then she'd be helpless. That was a situation the Escalade despised being in.

Watching the other creature walk up to the palm tree, she felt extremely content going unnoticed, undercover. The ringlets around her ankles felt cool, now that she noticed, as did the other bits of metal on her. Her mind was still putting itself back in place, and with a flick of one of her tails, the Esclade noticed a flicker of flame. Of course, now why should she be afraid? Still, Dessa turned her head, and decided to leave the other animal unsupervised while she looked at where she was. She was more anxious to find out where she was, than to introduce herself. If any of..Those were near here, then maybe...

Gazing over the place, she noticed dunes, and sparse shrubs absolutely everywhere. Dunes, upon dunes..Upon dunes, and then there was the sun. And this place. This seemed like paradise compared to the thirst-enducing heat she could just imagine from where she stood. Of course, thirst would be present no matter how much heat the Escalade could endure. It would be impossible to find anything at the moment, wouldn't it? All this sand! Groaning inwardly, she rolled her eyes. Things were making more sense now, if she could just remember just what to look for!

Returning her eyes to the stranger, she blinked wide eyes at the now tree-topped creature. "What in the world is it doing...? What if it-" Now the Demi clambered down the tree.
"Smart, I supposed it doesn't want to slip and..Make a mess."
The speaker herself gave a shudder at the crude thought and was about to go back to being unnoticed. That was, before the other called out to see if it, he, was alone.
Not knowing quite what to say, Ardessa just strode out from the rocks and blinked blandly. "Who are you?" She damanded, an attempt to regain an air she felt she needed about her. Holding her still-slightly-buzzing head high as she awaited the answer, when she should be giving one, the Escalade flicked her three tails impatiently.

A shiver was sent down the Demi's spine. Had he shared his Lasirus friend's interest in superstitions, he would have thought someone had cast a shadow over his grave. But instead, he believed it was the voice that had just answered him.

How strange, he had thought. And how strange it was to come to believe that he found this newfound voice very...intriguing, very mysterious. And how strange it was to find himself being drawn to that very voice. So much, to the point that he found himself wandering about the oasis, out from his so-called hiding spot.

Again Lucien found himself thinking how strange it was that things with a mysterious air to it always drew his attention. Sometimes, things such as this make him do the strangest of things. Most of the time these strange feats got him into a situation he would most rather be excluded from.

Looking toward this new creature he had rarely ever seen in his short-lived life, Lucien now pondered his choices. He had already given himself away, but there was always the possibility of fleeing. Although, that wouldn't be very gentlemen-like of him, yes? After spending a moment more on these choices, he took a deep breath, stood up straight, and puffed out his chest to show he knew no fear.

"I am known as Lucien. It's a pleasure to meet you, but would you mind telling me your name as well, and what on Earth are you doing in a place like this"

He answered her, and the voice made her tilt her head curiously. Out of character for her, was the feeling of bewilderment she had just then. What, with the common creature making himself seem bigger, an action not unlike felines.
Lucien..? That's a new one. Unique, I think. Thats the word.
The Escalade chuckled lightly, amused as she took in Lucien's posture. Ardessa trotted foreward, and sat down a few feet from the fellow animal in the blink of an eye.
"I am Ardessa, and I just happened to wake up in the sand...Behind that boulder, to be precise." Finishing that answer with a nod in the direction of said rock, she returned her gaze to the stranger before her. There. That answered that, didn't it? Simply, without confusing this guy in detail after detail that Ardessa still could not, for the life of her, remember clearly.
"Might I ask this of you, Lucien? ...Are you afraid of me?" She spoke pointedly, but not impolitely. It's just that..His pose made her wonder just how nervous he was. Her tails swished around in the sand and Dessa glanced around at the oasis. It was still a startling blue, not any less dazzling after the thrid or fourth glance. There was still no place near the paradise, so what buisiness did he have here, either?
"Oh, and how did you come to be here, as well? Since I clearly haven't the slightest idea of where I might be. Besides the randomest desert, mind you."

Lucien twitched the tip of his tail, and began to reconsider his choices. He immediately sensed the attitude this female was prepared to give him. Raising his hackles, the Demi took a tentative step back, then realized he had made the wrong move.

Truth be told, he was a bit scared of this orange and amber beauty. When he stood as proudly as he thought himself to be, aside from masking this minor fear, he meant to give the Escalade the impression that he was a superior at his works, which didn't exactly include wooing females (Although he does practice this skill during his free time).

"Afraid? Now, why would I be afraid of someone as...captivating as you? Not that I've met anyone like that until now," the Demi replied after much thought. Happy with his words, he found himself curling his tail in delight, then thought, Why stop now? If I've got her attention, I shouldn't keep her hanging.

"I am here on official business, Miss 'Ardessa.' ...Although, it's not the kind of business including others. I am here for my own reasons" The Demi spoke with a smile; the one he had been working on with his own best friend, Korey, who had no interest in it whatsoever.

"Oh. But, this is really an amazing place to be looking for a certain treasure, now, isn't it? Clear water, soft white sand, and enough shade to keep your fur from burning up."

Still sitting, she held back a snort, or a scoff. Snort didn't sound proper enough a word to use. Why, he even took a step or two away from her! The trio of tails continued to flick in amusement. Captivating?
"Well, darling, you were either afraid or trying to impress me. It didn't seem like the latter to me."
He was quite the amusement, wasn't he? The delighted curling of his tail had her raising her eyebrows. Cute. Quite, quite cute.
"Official, personal buisiness that requires you to be on your own? Doesn't sound suspicious at all."
Then again, a random Escalade in the desert isn't the most normal thing...
The Demi smiled then, making Dessa raise her eyebrows yet again, and perhaps smile faintly. It could've been from anything; amusement, flattery, slight adoration at the possibly feign boldness.
She nodded, agreeing with him on his words.
yes, soft sand, the water happens to be nicely clear.."Oh! But I can't burn that easily, Sir....Whatwasit? Lucien.."
Suddenly Ardessa's mind latched onto previously said words, and nearly leapt a foot foreward, towards the male Demi. Something inside just..Clicked.
'Treasure?!'
"So you know where they are? Where at least one of them is?!"

The Demi wiggled his toes in the sand, letting its softness seep in between them as he let his mind bask in the brilliance of the Escalade's eyes. Maybe this was what it meant by love at first sight. Although Lucien never thought himself as the extremely romantic type, he still felt as if he had a shot.

"My business here is mine and mine alone to deal with, suspicious or not. And it doesn't include your nose poking in it," Lucien replied, quite defiantly, like a child trying to prove himself to an unbelieving adult.

The three tails that stemmed from the lovely Escalade perplexed the young Demi. Watching them moving individually truly boggled his mind. Glancing back at his own single tail, Lucien suddenly felt a bit too common. Especially so when Ardessa seemingly forgotten his name, just moments after he had introduced himself. His single tail drooped slightly, along with his shoulders. Maybe he was being a bit too sensitive.

Being taken off guard was something Lucien did not like. It made him feel like a scaredy-cat, like a fragile, timid creature, which he did not enjoy one bit. When Ardessa lunged towards him, almost to a point that he felt the slightest bit uncomfortable, the Demi couldn't help but give a little jump.

Great. Now she thinks I'm a total coward. Lucien began to feel all the more pathetic, causing him to lose all focus on his main goal: to score with this foreign beauty. But, there was something that drew his mind back to his original cause, his original reason for being here at all.

He took in the words last said by the amber and orange Escalade, and tossed them around in his head. Them? They? What did those words mean in the Escalade's position? It seemed as if they meant something.

"Er...What exactly do you mean by...that?" Lucien voiced his concerns, hoping to get a clearer answer.
