Aelita lay draped across a boulder jutting out into the lazily meandering river. The sun filtered down through the trees to bathe her back in its greenish gold brilliance, she closed her eyes basking in the warmth and the light. Winter had been long and harsh... And lonely, the stray thought drifted across her mind bringing a wicked twinkle to her eye. She leaned foreword to gaze at the mirrored surface of the river, admiring the way her golden locks shimmered with each graceful movement and the gleam of her horn and hooves. She was a young mare and beautiful to the point of distraction, that combination as well as a pampered childhood drove her to aesthetics. She enjoyed spending long hours gazing at her reflection. She appreciated other beautiful things as well of course, she loved the wild beauty of the forest and she enjoyed spending time in the company of other attractive soquili, whose loveliness, she felt, served to emphasize her own. Males were amusing of course, she enjoyed the way they admired her and seducing them away to spend time with her was a fun little game to while away an afternoon, but females were always the more worthwhile companions...

A loud swooping noise distracted her from her reverie, she peered up through the branches as a large figure blotted out the sun and bathed her in shadow. She grimaced and got to her feet with a little huff of irritation. It appeared company had arrived, hopefully her visitor would be more entertaining than the last boring drudge who had wandered by.
"Well, well... What have we here?"

Ignis' powerful copper pinions flexed and churned, propelling his muscled bulk through the air with as much grace and speed as if he weighed no more than a songbird. He soared over the emerald treetops, seeking a safe place to land and rest for a while before returning home. His children were grown now, Sophia off on her own while Adrian still lived with him in his mountain eyrie. He was still a young stallion, having adopted his son and daughter when their mother abandoned them with him one strange night when he was barely grown himself, but he had spent so many years having to be a parent that he had forgotten how to embrace the carefree daredevil he had been before taking on such a huge responsibility by himself.

There, a silver snake wound its way through the forest, the day was warm and flying was thirsty work. A short bank and some lunch next to the river was very appealing. He banked to the left and spiraled down until he was skimming so low over the canopy that his bright hooves felt the tickle of the leaves as he passed over. The river was directly ahead with no clearing in sight, inconvenient.... Taking a gamble, he picked an area that wasn't as densely forested as the rest and dived, tucking his wings in close to his body and smiling as he felt the familiar thrill of adrenaline roaring through his veins. He twisted his way through the branches and came to a safe landing on the forest floor, laughing with an almost childlke glee. He had missed that. Now which direction was that stream?

Ignis jumped as a throaty chuckle sounded from off to his left. "Impressive," a feminine voice observed wryly. Ignis, his pride stung, whirled around to give the stranger a piece of his mind but was brought up short as his crimson gaze took in the shimmering hair that flowed over thin shoulders like a waterfall of spun gold, the smooth blush pink limbs and the large heavily lashed green eyes that gazed at him with thinly veiled amusement. The huge camellia flower tucked rakishly into her long blonde hair on any other female would have made the mare appear sweet and innocent, but in her case, simply emphasized the long and graceful curve of her neck, drawing his gaze and making his eyes bulge. He realized his mouth was still open from before and quickly snapped it shut, blushing slightly. "Hello," he began a little grumpily, "I wasn't expecting to meet anyone this far into the forest."
