English was so B.O.R.I.N.G!
She sighed to herself, thinking. Tucking some of her dirty blond hair behind one ear, she looked down at her books repressing another sigh. She was a science major, but still even in university... apparently being amazing in science also meant taking the english courses. She managed to dodge this one for a little while, but now? She decided best to get it over with. Oh but of course she was good in english, just found it lame and a waste of time.
Pushing her pencil around on her desk, it was not until the roll was called that she managed to at least semi pay attention.
Someone named Josie, someone else named Jackson... or was that brackston? None of her 'friends' were in this classroom, and looking around she did not exactly care to get to know anyone at the moment. She was too good for them.
"Helen Sophornia?" She did not say 'here' like a lot of the class, just raised a braceleted hand to signal her presence. She was usually on the bottom of the list for roll calls, or near the bottom anyways. It was not until a certain name was called, a name that made her register... double take. Think.
"Daphne Xanis!"
"......Xanis." She mumbled unde her breath, noticing the blue haired woman whom sat a few seats in front of her with more than just a mild curiousity.
Well, maybe there WAS someone worth getting to know in this class. She resisted the urge of passing notes like she did in highschool, just paid more attention to the 'xanis' than the class.

Where was Tanz when you needed her? Daphne would've gladly tangled with the Youma Queen in the middle of class rather than sit through another lecture on where commas go. She knew exactly where this professor could put her commas and it was an indelicate place for a girl to suggest. Composition was bad enough but before she turned around twice they'd have to read some bullshit nonfiction or even literature. Literature was the absolute worst.
The icing on the cake was that because of 'Audrey' vanishing, Daphne couldn't get a spot in her old program until the fall. That left spring and summer with bs classes she couldn't worm her way out of if she tried. At least there was that job at the candy shop. That was pretty fun.
Reaching the pencil over her shoulder the bluenette scratched at the itch between her shoulder blades. It wasn't as severe as the ones she got when powered up and something wicked her way came. More like someone was just staring. Turning her head she met a pair of eyes almost as blue as her hair and blinked.
The class was dismissed as soon as her head turned and Daphne's body swung around to look at the blonde. "Hi there."

"Are you really a Xanis?" There was no hesitation, no 'hello' in return. Just a quick and straight to the point question. It had been seething in the back of her mind the entire few hours the class ran, that one question being what kept her awake or possibly walking out early for the day.
Picking up her books and supplies she stuffed them into a cute red and gold shoulder bag she had been using for some time for books as well. Sometimes she wondered why they made womans purses so big, it was not like they could pull lamps out of their purses like Marry Poppins... but the companies sure as hell liked to make woman try to fit them in there.
Eyes back onto the girl, she waited for a reply before asking the next one.... the one that was really in the back of her mind.
How many Xanis families were there, after all? This was the first time she heard of that name in Destiny City, the first nibble of information leading to the rest of her extended family.

Eyes blinked twice in surprise before a groan croaked from the girl and she dropped her head into her arms for a moment. "Please don't tell me you're another one of Elzo's old conquests. Look, yeah, I married Elzo Xanis and yes that's totally unbelievable that he'd ever settle down but he did it and I'm it." Standing up a hand gestured to all of her before settling on her hip.
Daphne was content to keep ranting. "And honestly why is that always so hard to believe? I mean I'm not hideous or anything and everyone has someone for them. I'm just it you know. I mean sure I'm sure you're great despite being willing to have a one night stand with the first guy that offers." Which was his type...usually. It wasn't even really intended as an insult just a statement of fact.

Her first reaction was a twinkle in her eye, that clearly gave the wrong impression as Daphne continued on. She was going to reply to the remark about being an old flame... boy if she actually knew they were related that would shut her up.
How many Elzo Xanis's were there in such a big city anyways? Seriously? Who the hell would name their kid that. This must be the one she had been searching for. Not searching very well, apparently being as there was aXanis right under her nose, but well enough.
"..... Do i REALLY seem like the kind of woman whom spreads her legs for any Tom d**k or Harry that first strolls along wanting to relieve his blue balls?" She replied, bluntly, but since when did Helen ever word it ever but straight to the point? Coking one hip to the side and placing her own hand there too. " Is there by any chance a Marlo tossed into this math equation as well." This was the real test if it was the same people. Boy did she needed to know too.
Because, if this WAS the same Elzo and Marlo... and Elzo and Daphne were married, the woman standing right before her was actually her sister-in-law.

Boy what a choice metaphor. "I usually like to factor out Marlo. He doesn't like me and boy does he go out of his way to show it. I think it's because he's always been Elzo's wingman. I clipped the wings and there's nothing to slough off now but broken hearts and catty bitches. You don't seem like either of them so I have to go with no, you don't look like the type. You're pretty enough to get his interest though so I guess that's a compliment." Red was creeping its way through her face as embarrassment, making Daphne a bit more verbose than she was usually wont to be.
Kids for the next class were peering in through the door and the teen looked down at her phone and back up at the girl. "You're Helen right? We can't really stay here but I know the cafe next to the library is open. I could seriously use something to munch on and I'll treat you if you tell me what you want with the Xanis brothers." Someone to talk to? About her favorite person?
Well if she had to!

"Your not too shabby yourself." If anyone knew Helen, they would know how much weight those words carried. Helen was not lightly impressed, but the blue haired woman had a light to her. Not that Helen would ever admit Daphne was prettier than her, that would just bring out her competitive nature.
She would only resort to that if the other girl was recieving more attention. Thats just how Helen was.
"Sounds good, they have tasty muffins there." Helen did not really wait for Daphne, choosing to take the lead as they headed towards the small cafe. "So... how long have you two been married?"
Damn, she suddenly wondered if she should have sent a gift. She did not know about them till just now though, and hell who knew Elzo would marry so young?
So instead she would ignore that thought.

Books were unceremoniously swept into her battered old bag, covered still in scribbled-on Horde symbols, buttons of all the leaders, and a tattered stitched-on version in glowing bright red. Anyone who played the game would have absolutely no question about which side of the fence she sat on. Snide Negaversers would have said maybe she should start playing an Alli toon and she would have bitchslapped them into next month.
Who in their right mind played Alliance?!
Helen's question snapped her back with a smile and an outstretched hand to display the sapphire and diamond ring that had symbolized their engagement. There wasn't going to be a band until the formal wedding that Elzo was determined to give her but as far as the law mattered...well. "There wasn't a wedding but we've been legally married for a month and a half now. 47 days now." The second day of April was the day that everything had changed and they day they'd taken for their anniversary.
The pair chattered about inane things before being ensconced on a couch in the cafe and fingers plucked at a cinnamon roll before the bluenette rounded on her companion. "Okay so fess up. Why so interested in the Xanis boys? If you want to pluck one of 'em take Marlo. Elzo's mine and I'm a bit fierce." And didn't look a bit of it.

Picking up a lemon muffin herself, she followed Daphne and sat next to her on the couch. Tucking the skirt she wore under her, she crossed her ankles and leaned back in her seat. A laugh came to her lips. "You know i barely know you, just meeting you, but i do not doubt that one bit."
A pause, she took a little piece of the food and ate it before continuing. Mmmm she loved sweets. "But trust me sugar, if i was at all interested in either of them THAT way.... i would not back down from a challenge, not even you." A fire hit her eyes as a serious note held there. Helen was not one to back down from anything, she would fight if she had to and damn if she was not willing to get dirty.
A blink was all it took to remove that look from her gaze, not feeling threatened by Daphne at the moment. "Lets just say i have been searching for someone by that last name for quite some time now, and you were the first lead that i have stumbled across." Should she tell her the truth...? Or try to dig out more information. Would the woman be more open if she told them?

That processed through her brain as Daphne licked icing from her fingers and then tapped them against her lips thoughtfully. "So you're looking for the Xanis brothers but you say you haven't slept with either of them. So you're not a baby mama. Is your sister a baby mama? Because I swear to God that's the last thing I really need right now." Short of being pregnant herself, actually. While she knew for a fact nothing would make him happier there were just some things that Daphne felt she wasn't ready for. Would ever be ready for.
Babies were one of those things.
The girl had crossed her legs under her and looked far more like she belonged in a high school after school special or maybe a commercial about kids after school hanging out, rather than a married college student. Looks were deceiving and somehow Daphne rather doubted Helen had a snowball's chance in hell against her.
But that was rude and not really worth getting into a fight over in the middle of DCU campus.

Another bite of her muffin that was all too calculated, too precise. She chewed it almost slowly while she listened. It might have seemed she was being mean... almost like dragging it on. Did Daphne get it right?
"I think we have the same father."
....Not the same answer, but 'family' none the less.

Cinnamon roll paused halfway to Daphne's lips as she blinked at it several times. Fingers and hands started to shake along with most of her body until the laughter burst from the teen in a shout. She was wracked with the ironic mirth so much that her favorite treat had to be set down for fear of dropping it and it took a long few minutes to calm herself.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry! Oh God I'm not laughing at you just...oh man. That's just like Giovanni isn't it? Debauching and sowing his wild oats or whatever rotted seed he has." A hand waived carelessly and paused for a moment, regarding the blonde across from her with new interest. Yeah, she could see the resemblance. Her hair was a shade or few between the two Xanis boys but the eyes...those were Elzo's eyes alright.
"They don't know about you do they? s**t. Am I the first to know? That's kinda....yeah. Woah." Curls were blown back while Daphne contemplated her drink for a long moment, shaking her head. "That's sorta crazy."

Helen couldn't help it, her eyes instinctively narrowed at the laughing. If there was one thing that Helen couldn't stand, it was ridicule for who she was. Yes she was the daughter of a whore, the daughter of some b*****d whom did a one hit run on her mother once or twice. Yes she grew up on the streets until she met her mother and father. While she was adopted by them, in her eyes they WERE her parents. The loins she was bred from were never going to fill that space in her heart.
Leaning backwards she sat quietly until the other was finished... finishing her muffin off. "I dont know, never met the b*****d. My mother only saw him once or twice. Once to breed me, second time to learn he apparently spread his Johnny apple seeds all over town." She shook her head once at Daphne. Sighing her eyes glanced away for a moment, before settling back. "Ive known about them for a while now, but i admit i haven't been searching as much as i COULD have. But i left my ears pricked for any trace... so yes. You are the first, oh new sister-apparently-in-law." Fingers where drawn through her hair, looking back intently.
"You think they'd accept it? You seemed to accept it a little easily." A eyebrow raise, proof that their dad was a dead beat if it was THAT obvious. "Makes you wonder how many of us had our mothers looking for child support with no avail."

Hands spread helplessly. "I've met Giovanni Xanis all of once in my life and it was enough that I had to fight Elzo for the honor. He hit on me, called me a redneck slut when I played dumb about it, and then suggested that Elzo wasn't man enough to keep any girl happy. Suffice to say he lives off the misery of his children and I can't stand the b*****d. Neither of his sons are like him in the slightest." Not even Marlo, was the silent bit that Daphne was forced to admit. He could be cold but he wasn't cruel. The boys had tempered Giovanni's natural cruelty in each other. Somehow.
"I'm pretty accepting. Marlo would probably question it and get angry. Elzo..." Her voice trailed and blue curls shook as her head moved in a bit of a negative. "I'm honestly not sure. He loves his brother and I think he even cares for his mother somewhat. He's capable of great love and great hate and while he might be shocked...no. I don't think he'd hate you for your mom falling in with Giovanni in her misguided youth." Daphne had, apparently, figured Helen's mother for some poor starstruck socialite.
"Listen." Fingers combed through her hair. It was pretty easy to accept something like this when you'd been in the Negaverse for a year and recently lost your entire life plus half of your memories. But it wasn't easy to deal with family awkwardness. Ever. "I figure this is totally up to you what you want to do. I can introduce you as a friend to Elzo if you want, you can gauge how you feel about him, and we can go from there if you'd like. I can't really do much more than that for Marlo but I guarantee if you tell one brother, you might as well tell the other."
It felt wrong to turn Helen away after something like that without even an offer for help and advice. After all they were apparently, in a way, sisters. What a first!

"Misguided youth?" Now that got a laugh out of her, a horrible sounding laugh filled with sarcasm and pain. "No. She was paid to be the vessel of his seed and spawn. She was no victim, she was purchased like a loaf of bread." She would let that hang, sink it. Helen really did not care who knew about her past, did not really try and hide it. Was not proud of it herself... who would be? But she also did not want pity. "Dont bother pity either if you were thinking about it. My parents, while i was technically adopted, i love them and think of them as my REAL parents."
Enough on her though.
"Mmm... Honestly i have had years accepting that i had siblings out there somewhere. It was a bit of a shock to me at first, but time heals wounds you know." A shrug. "I think it might be best to let myself know, and let them know, what we are all getting in to. Its safe to assume i'm not exactly the easiest to get along with." Which was true, she was a bit stuck up herself.
