Beloved Stargazer

It was pretty late at night.

Before being brought into the Negaverse, Alunite didn't like to be out late at night. It just wasn't safe - especially in the last two years - and it was time better spent being up until the crack of dawn, coding databases and programs on one of his many computers.

Not anymore, though. He was part of something much bigger, a network would would come to his aid should there be any issue. And, well... He wasn't just Matthew anymore, and probably wouldn't ever be again. Even after the war was won... Senshi were not welcome on Earth.

He wondered what he would do, then. A far away dream.

For now, he was just enjoying the weather - it was nice and warm out, a sign of the quickly approaching summer. He had power now, actual power, but it was a bit of a shame that this power came with a skirt and long a** hair.

Oh well. Right now, he was just enjoying himself, and only loosely on the lookout for anything that might come his way.

She had not been able to sleep anyway, so Asclepius had decided to go out just long enough to drop off some supplies at the safe house. She had bought most of the things upwards of a week ago, and had just not felt particularly inspired to go out in senshi form to deliver them. Maybe she had been afraid of meeting Pollux again, or, (perhaps worse yet) another senshi she did not know.

Or, worst of all, Asclepius might run into someone looking for a fight.

Grumbling to herself, she stopped on a rooftop about halfway to her destination and looked around. She could tell what direction the feeling of darkness was coming from, but was unable to see anyone or anything just yet. Asclepius' sense were still not yet completely radar-accurate, but she could recall from experience, at least, that this one felt a little different from the Negaverse agents she had encountered in the past.

Not running into Ilmenite was a relief, at least. She was not at all certain she could deal with having to talk to him again.

Still, though, she could not lead whomever this was straight to the safe-house. The Senshi of Medicine shifted her little backpack on her shoulders a little; it bulged with an extra med-case, and Asclepius was wearing the extra pair of tough leather work gloves because she was not sure the zipper would survive with those stuffed inside, too. After considering for a moment, she selected a direction off to the side to go for now. Lead the one radiating negative energy away, or, she hoped, bore him or her into not following.

Energy. Radiant. A Senshi, then. Somewhere down below, actually. Much like Asclepius', Alunite's sense of auras was not yet picture perfect, so it took a moment - until the passed a street lamp - before he finally saw her.

A little strange looking, though he didn't think those gloves were part of her uniform at all. Kind of cute, even. If one could say such thing to someone who was meant to be their enemy.

She looked a little twitchy, though. What for ? Hmmm. This was enough to rouse Alunite out of his laziness, stand up, stretch a bit, and follow along - though he kept to the rooftops.

Really, he could use the practice, anyway.

Asclepius caught on quickly that the energy signature was following her, at least, and sighed, stopping on a rooftop just a few blocks away. No use tiring herself out running if whoever it was wanted to fight anyway.

Turning back, she squinted, scanning carefully for signs of her stalker. Chaonis did not give off an energy signature like that, at least; she was not sure she felt like dealing with him right now, especially if he felt like attracting another youma again.

She flexed her fingers in the gloves, listening to the leather creak as she scanned the roofs behind her. Was that movement?

"Hey, I know you're there somewhere," she called out after a moment. "I'm not in the mood for crap tonight." Worth a try, at least, the Senshi of Medicine figured.

He stopped when she did, crouching again. He would have just sat again, but he wasn't sure if she would bolt again.

Oh, he knew what he usually should be doing - jump down, and attack. Or maybe even use his power, then follow that sequence. But honestly... He didn't feel like it. He was still kind of sore from his last run-in with one of these so called pages. They really hated chosen senshi, apparently.

"Well, it's a lovely evening." He said from his perch, shifting to sit but otherwise staying put. "Just enjoying the weather. And you ?"
PostPosted: Fri May 27, 2011 1:56 pm

"About the same," Asclepius replied, doing her best to sound uninterested. "Taking a little rooftop walk." She hesitated a moment, wondering how she might be able to play off the work gloves if he asked about them.

She was certainly less than pleased to have to confront the stranger, but at least if he was going to be pleasant, she saw no reason to be rude to him first. Peering upwards at where she could see him outlined against the stars, Asclepius inquired, "Any breezier up there on your roof? It was strange but interesting, getting used to taking height into account with the weather. Although it will be nice during the summer, being able to get up above the streets."

It had been a good long while since the Senshi of Medicine had encountered the corrupted senshi Vivianite, and so had sort of forgotten exactly what her power signature had felt like. Now that she knew where this fellow was, and had gotten a few moments to study him, the memories were starting to come back; she wondered if he was another corrupt. She might know better if she got a good look at him, though.

Ah, how quick to go on the defensive... But he supposed it was a normal reaction, really. Truth was, he really didn't give a damn what she was doing, or where she was going with those heavy gloves of hers. He just didn't want her to hop over and fight him. He was still hurting from his last few fights - if he could avoid it, he certainly would.

As long as she didn't attack, he saw no reason to do it.

"It's pretty nice up there." He shrugged, not doing much to aid himself in becoming visible to her at all. "Just a little colder than on the ground, I guess ? Not like I carry a thermometer or anything."

Asclepius felt about the same way - fortunately for the both of them, most likely. She still wanted to get a better look at him, though, and tried to figure out how to do that without looking like she was attacking.

She moved along the edge of her roof and prepared for the hop up to his building. "Not looking for a dust-up," the senshi called out. "Really could just use the fresh air." And then she jumped up onto a corner of the stranger's roof, as far from him as she could manage.

The breeze did, indeed, feel nice. The wind caught her long trailing white skirt as she landed, and billowed the fabric out for a moment. Gooseflesh ran up Asclepius' legs and arms at the chill. Or perhaps at the sight of the small cracked hole in the center of the stranger's chest.

Alunite tensed when she jumped up to come face to face with him, through he did not move beyond that. He was keeping ready, through.

His own skirt - black and tattered at the ends - was also catching the wind. He had a rather chinese-like look to his clothing, at least for the upper bits. His hair reached nearly to the floor, in a ponytail that was hanging down on his front. It was the least annoying position Alunite had found, really.

He really felt more comfortable when he was being unseen, really. "Oh, well." He shrugged. If she wanted to attack him now, he could just use his power and leave. He had no want to have his relative good mood shattered.

Arms crossed she stepped closer a few strides then stopped, tapping a leather-gloved finger on the opposite arm. Asclepius was now fairly certain that he was one of the turned senshi. A shame, really; difficult though this war was, she imagined that the senshi who found themselves on the side of the Negaverse must be at least a little confused, being different and all.

She was not about to antagonize him about anything, but she still sort of wondered if he might be able to answer questions for her. There were certainly things she wondered about the corruption that apparently had left a hole in his heart and twisted the hearts of people like Ilmenite.

"How do you get... recruited like you have been, if I may ask?" the light Senshi of Medicine asked after a moment, selecting her words carefully. Still perhaps a dangerous question, if he somehow interpreted it as interest on her part. Well, it was, truthfully, but she was not there to offer herself up for it. All she wanted was the information, if it would be at all possible to get it.

Alunite held his ground as she came closer, now fairly certain that she might not attack him - if she had planned to, why hadn't she ? He couldn't let his guard down, through. He wasn't that foolish.

...What kind of question what that ? But more importantly, how to answer it ? Should he answer it ? The night of his recruitment came flooding back to the forefront, something he had managed to more or less put aside. Not forget, through. He was quite certain it was impossible to forget a pain like the one he had felt that one night, unless your mind was completely wiped of anything afterward. It had not been his case, but it had been for many.

The memory had made him tense, but he forced himself to relax. "I was chosen." Was all that he said. In a way, it was true - Fluorite had chosen him... through she had no idea that he bared a senshi starseed. "Though I do not know how and why they decide on who they do." That wasn't quite the truth - he knew exactly why he was standing here, hole in the chest and all. The others ? He had no idea.

She studied him as he mulled over his response, and then nodded as he spoke. "I see," she murmured. Not quite as informative as she wanted, but perhaps a bit moreso than she had hoped, anyway.

Asclepius recalled her decidedly unfortunate meeting with Labyrinthite on a different roof, some months ago, and furrowed her brows as she considered her own next question. Then, uncrossing her arms, she asked, "They do not consider you an invader then? The other officers of the Negaverse?"

At least the Senshi of Medicine now knew why the Lieutenant with the flamingo had hurled that accusation. Idly, the girl wondered if this fellow had a place of his own somewhere among the stars, but thought that best left unasked for the moment.

"No." He shook his head. "I fight for Earth. I do not have a star, and I don't care to know about it." That wasn't quite the truth, but this one definitively did not need to know about that.

"I am Alunite - nothing more, and nothing less." It would occur to him later that he had unwittingly handed his name over to her, but at least it wasn't his real name. Right ?

He was clearly passionate about the subject - but at least he hadn't hurled into obscenities.
PostPosted: Sat Jun 11, 2011 3:35 pm

"Alunite, then." Asclepius nodded. Traded his star for something? Or lost it? Or had it taken? The girl's eyes kept straying to the hole in his chest. Was that rude? He sounded like he cared about the words he was sharing. And she could not help but feel sorry for him.

She cared about Asclepius. She had to. It frightened her and worried her and made her stomach wobble sometimes and her heart ache others, but she kept going back because she cared. Maybe the hurt she felt when she saw the stony lines of the stone man's face was right about ... where the hole was, in Alunite's chest.

"You can call me Asclepius," the Senshi of Medicine told him after a moment. "And I fight for the people of Earth." She placed the lightest emphasis on the word 'people'; she was not trying to be sanctimonious or prove any sort of point to him, just see if he would notice.

The truth of the matter was that Alunite's star - or whatever heavenly body it was, actually - was still out there, just as fine and well as every other inhabited star had been - probably in rubble and broken.

But Alunite did not know the name of that star. The truth was, he cared - it worked at him, this empty hole gnawing at him from within whenever he thought about it.

But she didn't need to know that. To senshi, and perhaps even to his own side, he needed to show an uncaring face on this matter.

She couldn't stop staring at the hole on his chest, at the starseed within. It was tempting to taunt her with it, take it out, but he was much smarter than that.

"So they say." He shrugged, having noticed what he had interpreted as an attempt to rile him, and doing his best not to fall in that perticular trap. Senshi, it seemed, were deluded to their own purposes here on Earth.

Much like Asclepius pitied him, he pitied her. Could they come back to their sences without the negaverse's power ? Who knew...
