Demetri Wright was no stranger to candy stores, so it was likely little surprise when the door opened and it was the blonde who bounced his way in. Usually he made the rounds to buy himself obscene amounts of delicious sour candy, especially sour worms. Mmmm! Today though, he had a bigger plan! Today he had to scout out some candy for welcome packages for the Negaverse. -Clearly- candy would help soften the pain of being inducted, right? It had to! Candy was awesome!
So today he was going to look for some candy advice, but unfortunately it seemed like no one was at the counter. For a moment the blonde who was all smiles busied himself with looking at various assortments of candy, but eventually he found his way to the counter. There was a convenient little bell there, and it hadn't taken him very long to find it and ring it a few times.
"Hellooo? Anyone here? Got a few questions, if you aren't too busy!"
Now to just wait for the shopkeeper.

It probably wasn't too normal to hear a curse from the back of a candy store, after all it was such a -happy- place to be. Well, it could be till someone you knew came in... then it was 'someone you knew who now knew you sold candy'. And what was more... it was Demy...who lived on candy.
He shut off the faucet for the dishes and took a deep breath to brace himself, he anticipated at the very least 'free sample' jokes. Then again it was Dem, he might be sincerely hopeful that Zac could just give away candy. "...One sec!" he called, not exactly professional but he took his time to dry off his hands before squaring his shoulders and heading 'out front'

Nope...that curse was definitely new. Demy gave a confused look at that, but still stayed confident in his idea that the shopkeeper would be able to give him good advice. He had to! It was a candy store after all, the worker had to know what kind of candy was good for welcome packages right?
RIGHT!
Though...that voice sounded pretty familiar. The blonde paced, pondering it in his head a moment before the answer came walking out and looked right at him.
"ZEE! Hi Zee! Whatcha doing here? Getting some can----waaaaait..." Demy eyed him, then the path he had come from, thinking that bit of information over before...
".......Dude you work here?"

Anyone less familiar -might- have had him hold his tongue but the sarcasm was almost irresistible... he let it fly without a second thought, familiarity being a dangerous game.
"No...I figured I'd just drop behind the counter and wash their dishes for them... yes, I work here now."
A long pause and then he prompted "....and what may I get for you today." a cookie cutter line that was normally joined by a sort of dangerous smile. Fortunately enough people missed it that he hadn't strangled sales. That and the fact there was a new girl who was normally with him who's exuberance more than made up for his hedgehog personality helped.

"Dude that's an AWESOME job! So awesome, congrats Zee! Did you know I got a job too? I woulda told you earlier but I've been so busy, I'm sorry!" The blonde grinned, leaning on the counter to continue his chatting with the shorter boy.
"See, I got this job at Electric Dreams! Remember that place? I threw the party there? Awesome arcade? The owner is awesome and gave me this job and it's so cool. I'm making money and actually SAVING it Zee! Heather made me a deal about getting a car and my license, it's going to be great!"
Demy didn't seem to mind the cookie cutter line or his friend's usual sarcasm. Really it didn't seem out of the ordinary, Zee was just being Zee. Silly Zee!
"I'm making up welcome packets for...you know. Any suggestions?"

"...Normally I'd ask who they were for and what kind of candy they like, but you probably don't know that...right?" he said and made a note to stay off the streets as much as possible, especially after Dem got his license.
He glanced around and thought about some of the cheeper but popular candies. "We make little goodie bags, should be cheep enough that you can afford a few, would you like that kind of thing? Rock candy chunk, sugar stick, gold coin, candy necklace and um... I think a candy button strip are standard."

"I don't know yet, but I'm working on that so I know for the future! Got this list of people and the stuff they like so I can get them things for their birthdays and..."
Thankfully the ramble was cut short by the suggestion of goodie bags. Demy straightened back up and beamed down at his longtime friend at that idea.
"Sounds perfect! I think that'll be great to give to the ah...new recruits, to sorta soften the impact you know?"

"... you're just going to love it when you're promoted." He said dripping sarcasm. Somehow it was easier to trivialize the pain of being inducted after that. He couldn't imagine what their new General Queen had suffered, though perhaps after the BMC such things were almost trivial too.
"It's two fifty for the little bags, five if I pad it out with things like bottle caps but I think for a starter bag you should stick to basic, just a suggestion." He shrugged and grabbed a food service glove and started laying out the clear plastic bags for use. "Do you want to pick the rock candy colors?" he asked dryly, but he did have to... even if he suspected he'd either be watching Dem dart back and forth in front of the case like a human hummingbird...or simply demand blue and green as 'the most awesome'.

"I'm gonna be an awesome general, just you wait Zee!" Yeah...clearly he wasn't worried about the pain. It was easy to forget how much it hurt to become a Captain...at the time he had so much other pain in his life with the loss of his mother that Negaverse pain barely registered in his mind. The promotion would be a rude awakening.
For now though, the candy was more important!
"Little bags sound good, I'll save big bags for birthdays or something." Oh yeah, the candy store was going to be seeing a lot of Demetri Wright. "As for colors, just use all different ones okay? Then the bags can be like this...awesome rainbow! Yeah!"

A small groan and he started fishing out different chunks of rock candy, snipping it off at random intervals to make smaller pieces out of the long strings and weighing them to make sure they were roughly the same before placing them carefully into the bags.
Birthdays.. good lord. "You might want to make sure anyone you plan on giving this to for birthdays -likes- candy too." He said carefully. "Not everyone does... and you'll have to be careful with allergies too."
Yes, part of that was legitimate concern for the people receiving potentially nut filled candies, or even 'gluten' inclusive...which seemed to be a rising trend. He had originally thought it was some kind of diet fad when the boxes started appearing in the supermarkets, but working here, ironically had been where he learned otherwise.
"Are you getting something for yourself today too?"

"I promise I'm going to be careful! I'm trying to find out as much as I can about everyone else to be sure I pick out good things for their birthdays, which includes candy stuff if they like candy." At least he seemed to have planned this out a bit, with how adamant he was on gifting their co-workers things.
Demy managed to stand still for a while, watching over Zac as he cut the candy for the bags. Thankfully he hadn't piped up about placement of the candies, so everything seemed to be going good. When asked if buying anything for himself, the blonde simply smiled and gave what was likely the least expected answer of all.
"Newp, not today! Only buying candy for the others."

Zac blinked at him in flat out shock. "Who are you and what did you do with Demy." he said in perfect dead pan.
he finished packing the small bags and then tied them off with matching ribbons before tapping them into the cash register for sale. "You sure there isn't anything else..." He said with a suspicious gaze. "Nothing.. not even pixi sticks."

"...Huh? I'm Demy, silly Zee!" The blonde gave him that typical grin that read 'not much going on up here!'. It was to be expected with him.
For a moment Demy busied himself with looking over the bags, which were absolutely awesome of course! Zac had done a good job, and Demy was positive they would make quite the impact with the new troops. Once he was sure the bags were okay, the boy looked up to blink at Zee's question.
"Hrm? ...No." There it was, that glint in his eyes that proved that he really was wanting candy. But...for once he seemed to be holding himself back. "Not today! Just the bags for the other...saving the rest of my money for the car fund!"

"Car fund..." he said carefully. "what kind of car are you saving for?" he queeried. He always wanted to know, needed to know more though it was almost habitual. Plus at least he would know better than to panic if he saw a strange clunker following him.
It made him wonder, made him think that he should be looking for some kind of reliable transportation too... Congratulations to Dem for being a step ahead on that particular planning game.

"An Eclipse dude, it'll be so -awesome-. Gonna save up a while then find a nice working one, and then maybe do some work to fix it up I dunno just yet..."
Demy leaned on the counter a bit, grinning at Zac as he continued talking.
"Are you going to get a ride too man? If you ever need one you can totally call me! I promise I'll drive careful, and it'd be fun you know? I don't mind helping!"
