Xennek knew something was wrong the moment that he woke. Sekayi who usually was there to pester him about evening training was gone. And he knew that he hadn’t made him angry…this time. The lion hated not knowing where his ‘apprentice’ of sorts was and so without a moment’s hesitation started to move. His walk, however, turned into a run as he tasted blood in the air. Was that Sekayi’s? “Oh don’t tell me the cub got himself into trouble without me.”
The lion pushed himself and didn’t even pause as he recognized the torn figure of his companion. Who the hell dared to do this? This was his apprentice, only he was supposed to get to beat him up and even he wouldn't go this far. Gaze narrowed the lion let out a roar of fury before pushing himself in the way of the attacker. This lion was aiming to kill Sekayi! “Back off!” Xennek rose to his full, towering height to glare at the other lion. “You’ve won, just leave the cub alone.” His claws dug into the ground. Something told him that this was not going to be a simple confrontation.

Sozin had left Kanya weeks prior, but the rage that had bubbled inside him at the inability to get her out of his mind was rippling just below the surface constantly now. It was infuriating and positively disgusting that he had spent - not merely a night - but weeks with that pathetic excuse for a creature and that he actually longed for her presence at his side when he laid himself down to sleep at night. Disgusting.
He had found the male lion while hunting - or rather, failing to hunt - and had accused him of stealing all the prey. He had launched himself into a fight, uncaring of if the male could fight. He had acted brutally, and hit as often as he could, uncaring of any wounds he had gained in returned.
He had been preparing to deal a final blow to the injured lion when the voice called out, startling him. His gaze snapped up, and a snarl worked out of his throat, warning the other to stay back.
"Cub? This is no cub. This is a lion. He should have known how to defend himself better." He snarled. "He deserves his wounds - and his death."

Xennek's lip pulled back into a snarl, "Then you might want to try gettin' past me first." He growled, his voice low with warning. "That happens to be my companion you just fell after all. Can't really just let him die now." Not just that he was insulted that this lion would say that his apprentice was so weak to deserve death.
Moving towards the other lion, Xennek whipped his body between his and Sekayi's. Both back paws pushed against the fallen lion giving just enough pressure to gently push him back away from the other. His gaze was worried. The cub wouldn't be waking up so soon. This lion must have hit him pretty hard. Xennek looked back up with a growl, "Well? You going to leave or do I seriously have to beat you to a pulp first?"
His gaze dared the other lion to attack. He wanted to tear into this one. For Sekayi, but also for the thrill of a fight. Of being able to tear into another lion without holding back for once. This guy would deserve any damage he would give him after all. Not to mention that if he beat Sekayi then he must really be able to hold his own. That or the cub was really having an off day.

"How cute," Sozin snarled, not misunderstanding the use of 'companion' as description, but purposely taking it in a different meaning. "Saving your own little damsel are you." He bore his teeth in a threatening gesture, and did not back down even as Xennek put himself between the fallen male and Sozin himself. This male had courage, if nothing else, but it was likely that it was misplaced stupidity too.
Sozin's claws dug into the earth, tearing up the soil by his paws. This male was not backing down, so perhaps he knew how to fight. Even if he didn't, then Sozin could expel some more rage, and kill two males, instead of one. He smirked.
"You can try," Sozin snarled, and launched himself at the stable male. He was bleeding from a few of his owns wounds, but ignored them, in favour of intending to add a few to the male's own pelt.

Really? Damsel...as much as the thought might have normally gotten a laugh out of him, it was meant as an insult. An insult to poor Sekayi who Xennek knew must have fought as much as he could have. "Aww." Xennek rolled his eyes at the male, "I see that you'd rather waste breath on petty words and insults. Afraid?"
Ah. So it began. Xennek actually grinned as the other male launched himself towards him. Better yet he noticed how the other lion was bleeding already. Good job, Sekayi. You might actually be strong enough one day... Waiting until the last second Xennek moved onto his back and kicked hard at his attacker. It was a risky move, but he had to get the fight away from Sekayi. Pushing he rolled away and started to get distance away from his fallen companion.

Sozin snarled. "The only one who should be afraid is you...and your little damsel - if he ever awakes." He had his claws outstretched as he launched himself forward, coming to realise the male's plan but he was already in mid air and could not turn at that time. The kick connected with his ribs, sending him tumbling away. He didn't laze on the ground, despite the throbbing ribs and launched himself back to his feet.
He growled roughly, before he laughed - a bitter, grating sound. "You try to lead me away and leave him uncovered instead." He launched himself, not at Xennek, but at Sekayi, claws outsheethed.
He left himself over for attack, but this time he did not intend to injure, but distract. If he got the male too worked up about his damsel, he would let his guard down and Sozin could really do damage. If only his ribs would stop throbbing.

"Shut up already!" Xennek hissed. He swore if he heard damsel again from this guy's mouth then he would aim to rip out that annoying tongue. He was glad to hear the smack of his paws against the other lion's ribs. Now if he would just leave Sekayi alone. Xennek truly was taken by surprise when Sozin targeted Sekayi again. Even though I'm his opponent? He looks strong enough to not have to rely on trickery...
He was disappointed. So this was the type to use the weak against his opponent? This was going to be a tricky fight. If Sekayi wasn't so out of it...Xennek didn't give it a second thought before racing back after the other lion. Still it could be a bad idea to focus on Sekayi's safety. He couldn't leave the cub alone though...with a curse Xennek threw himself over Sekayi with a growl. "I think he has enough injuries for now. Though I can't say the same for you. You just keep asking for more." Would it be okay to leave Sekayi unprotected? He was already battered so as long as it wasn't lethal.... This was troubling. Xennek wasn't used to protecting. It was definitely going to hinder his fighting.

Sozin was delighted that this male had taken his bait. Clearly, he cared for the other's safety more than his own. How disgusting. "Oh, I don't intend to be injured again," Sozin sneered arrogantly. He had no desire to be injured again, only to injure.
He was close to the duo, so he was able to reach out and aim his claws towards male's face. If he missed, or the male moved, Sozin would simply try to attack the other again, as to truly avoid Sozin, he would need to leave his damsel uncovered - at least a little.
This was too fun, Sozin decided, with a grin, rage still bubbling below the surface.

"Oh, how nice to hear that." Retorted Xennek before realizing his mistake in rushing to Sekayi. He really was trapped. Still he had to move! Though limited by how much he could move Xennek managed to back up just enough to avoid losing an eye. But how was he to fight now? Unless...biting back against the pain of the other lion's claws hitting his shoulder the retreating lion moved forward just as quickly to kick Sekayi. Wincing for the other's pain, not to mention the stinging from his own wound Xennek listened as his companion hit the ground behind him. Surely he would start to wake up now. Before then though he would have to keep this one away.
"You think I'll give you enough time for another stunt like that?" Growled Xennek before jumping and aiming his claws towards the other lion's face. Before getting too close he twisted in mid-air, he would land next to the other lion and swipe at his side.

Sozin felt a sense of triumph as his claws connected - not with the males face as he had wanted, but at the shoulder and tore at the male's pelt. He was impressed when the male figured out his game - which was not hard to do, admittedly - and actually figured out a way around it. Kicking his companion was not a good idea, when he was injured but it did get him away from Sozin.
"Your damsel might not forgive you for that," Sozin sneered, before jerked away as the male launched at him, claws reaching for his face. He scoffed, but was startled as the male twisted, landing at his side. Sozin roared in frustration as he felt the male's claws connect with his side. Sozin spun as fast as he could, slashing at the male with both claws - no destination in mind, just hoping to hit something.
He ached, dammit, and he still wanted someone to die for this. He snarled.

Xennek just snorted. "It's okay. Don't worry about the damsel." He swore that lion was more fixated on Sekayi than him. Though it was a good way to distract him. Xennek had to admit that. So far the fight was more mentally active than many he had ever been in. This was one sneaky bas-
He didn't pause once! With a hiss Xennek watched the other lion spin towards him despite Xennek's attack to his side. He, himself, reacted and moved barely in time to avoid the claws hitting his shoulder again. His side was scratched instead. Not as badly as his shoulder wound. Thankfully. Without hesitation he immediately reached out to smack the lion harshly. No set body part as his target in mind save for that flash of red.

If Sozin hadn't been so frustrated at not easily winning, he might have been enjoying the challenge that the male presented to him. Usually, by this point he had often gained an advantage and the rest of the fight was just boring, but these two males - though he had eventually gotten an advantage over the fallen one - were putting up decent fights.
It was almost a shame they had to die.
Almost.
Pleased that he was able to hit the male's side, he flinched and was unable to move back in time. The claws that flew out towards him blindly struck his chest beneath his mane, causing him to bellow a roar as pain rippled through his body. The wounds were not dangerously deep, but they stung.
He threw himself towards the male, intending to barrel into him and knock him over. If he got the male down, the fight would be an easy win, but while Sozin was muscular and slightly larger than average, knocking over the male was not a certainty.

Xennek grinned. Looked like the poor guy was feeling that one. Though his amusement was dulled by the slight throbbing from his own stinging wounds. He had to be more careful. If he kept allowing this sucker to get in close like this - well he didn't know how many more scars he would like having on his pelt. Not to mention he had to defend the cub still. The thought distracted Xennek for barely a second and he glanced over towards Sekayi.
Huh.
The other lion was stirring. Xennek just hoped he would be ready to move when he was fully conscious. This battle had gone on long enough. Remembering his opponenet the lion let out a roar of rage as the scarlet blur came towards him. Oh if he thought he was going to knock him over the lion was in for a surprise. Similar to Sozin's size, Xennek turned his body sideways and dug his claws in bracing for impact. He refused to get down and let this become a wrestling match. Roaring again the lion opened his mouth and bit into the other's shoulder. That should be enough of a distraction for the cub to get away with. He would worry about ending this after Sekayi had left. Without looking over that way Xennek gave a faint nod as the younger lion started to limp away.

Sozin did not notice his earlier prey stirring, too focused on his current opponent. If he let this male have the advantage, he would be hurt before he even knew it and Sozin would not allow that.
His tackle did not work though, and though he slammed into the form of the male, he did not tumble like Sozin had hoped, instead he felt a mouth latch onto his shoulder and he snarled, reaching out his paws to claw at the males side, pushing him in hopes of dislodging him from his shoulder and doing some damage with his claws.
The teeth were digging in painfully and he just knew he would be feeling that wound for a long while. He'd be furious if it scarred - being forced to carry the mark of this pathetic male around with him? Unacceptable. He dug his claws into whatever he could reach, in efforts to dislodge his foe.

Xennek's teeth stayed firmly in the lion's shoulder. He needed a plan. A way to end this. But how could he do it? His dark gaze flashed with pain as the stinging impact of the other lion's claws hit him. Still no matter how much his opponent clawed at him the lion just held on. His own chest hurt from each new scratch but he just pressed his weight against the other lion and reached out with his claws towards whatever he could reach.
"Give it up now." The words were muffled but Xennek's intent was clear. "Back off and I'll get off." His words were muffled through the bloody fur and the lion pushed forward determined to budge the other lion. If he could just get space between them now. He just had to give Sekayi time to get away before he himself could get out of this messy battle. Normally the lion had no qualms about fighting to the end or to the death - he definitely wouldn't mind killing this guy - but Sekayi was too injured and he knew he had to take care of him soon.
Jeesh, this was annoying.
