Silas had wandered out to the sparkling lake. He hadn't really expected his new family to be so hands on, and found that he needed a bit of a break from their... well... large personalities. He liked them a lot, Asu was definitely an attentive mother, but he'd gone from zero contact to being around someone just about every day and it was getting perhaps a little overwhelming.
So, he packed up a small sketchpad, a book or two, and some pencils and wound up at the lake. He figured he could practice his reading and maybe get some lines on the paper for him to paint over when he got back to his dorm room. He settled himself down a ways from the shore, still on the grass.

Nadia had wandered over to the lake herself around an hour ago. She had wanted to practice some of her powers which, being mainly smoke and scent based, were hard to practice indoors. Besides she had found that people usually were not hanging around the lake, so she could practice in private.
In addition to practicing her powers, she'd also ended up doing a bit of dance practice as well. She didn't hear Silas approaching a little bit away because she had earphone planted firmly in her ears, sealing off all noise except the eastern music playing on her MP3 player. She turned this way and that, practicing a form of Indian dance called tandav while experimentally releasing little puffs of smoke from her fingers. Every so often she'd pause in her dancing specifically to practice her hand and arm movements.

Once he'd settled in, he looked up and actually scanned the shore area for a good focus, which was when he spotted Nadia. The memory was a bit fuzzy, but he remembered meeting her at the lake last time, when he was still a toddler. A sort of a smile came to his face, he hadn't really seen any of his friends lately. Any want to draw faded away, and so he got up once more and moved a little closer. Dancing was something he found very interesting, but when he'd tried to teach himself he always ended up tripping over his own feet and so he'd given up trying to learn.
Since she had earphones in, he opted to settle down on the ground again, but this time much closer so he could get a better look.

It took a moment for Nadia to notice that Silas had sat in front of her. The noise of his feet on the grass and of him sitting had been blocked out by the music coming from her earphones. Finally though as she turned a certain way during her dancing her eyes fell on him. She thought she might have felt startled if she ever felt startled, surprised, or even scared. Instead it was just an acknowledgement that someone was watching her and that the someone was Silas.
The memory of the two of them meeting on the shore of another lake was less fuzzy for Naida, though she'd found that she had a very good memory for people. She stopped her dancing and reached up to give the chord attached to the pieces that went in your ears and gave a little tug to pull them free. With her other hand she made sure to stop her music. Then she turned her full attention on Silas.
"Hello there Silas. How are you? It's been a while." She even had a smile for him. Silas had been one of the few her age that she'd met and not found to be annoying or too weird. He seemed different then many of the others, but somehow that hadn't translated as weird to her.

A bit of a smile spread across his face. His memory wasn't the best, but at least she remembered him well enough. "Hi Nadia. I'm okey, I got 'dopted to a new family. How are you?" The smile widened. He was trying rather hard to pronounce his words correctly, just like Sonnet had shown him how.
Even though Whisper was gone he still had a sort of sleepy look to him, but it wasn't nearly as bad as before, and his eyes even had a clarity that had never been there before. Perhaps the weird vibe he gave off would lessen with time.

Nadia picked up on Silas's improved speaking skills as well as the fact he seemed a bit less unfocused. She chalked both of those things up to him being a little older. He still didn't speak perfectly but Nadia thought it was kind of cute how he spoke. The thought seemed odd to her so she pushed it aside before giving him a smile.
"I am doing well thank you. How is your new family? I remember last time we talked about my mother giving yours lessons. Does your new family pay better attention to you?" She hoped they did. It didn't seem right that two parents couldn't pay attention to less kids then just her mom on her own did for more.

"Uh-huh. My new bruther got married and his waif Sonnet teeches me to reed and rite now." He grinned, "'cause my new Mummy asked her too. But Mummy helps m'too, like... um..." He paused for a second. Asu had been very busy lately and hadn't had too much time to do anything specific, but she at least made him food and read bedtime stories to him. "She reeds me stories 'n stuff 'cause lotsa things have been happenin' so she can't do as much." He shrugged a little. "Is yer mummy still good at payin' attention to all of you?" Silas figured she would be, but it was nice to ask. If she wasn't, Nadia could probably come to his reading and writing lessons with Sonnet, he didn't think she would mind. Sonnet was very nice, after all.

Nadia felt pleased when Silas told her he was now getting proper attention and even lessons on how to read and write. She found that Silas brought out a strange sense of protectiveness from her. If she'd found out he still wasn't getting proper attention she thought that she might have marched up to his "mother" and given her a piece of her mind. She couldn't quite put a finger on why Silas got this kind of reaction from her, which was puzzling to be sure. It was something to be thought over at a later time though.
"That's good to hear Silas." She gave him a smile. "My mother still pays attention to us all when we're home on weekends. We live in the dorm during the week. Not because we have to, but it's nice to have some freedom I suppose. Do you like your reading and writing lessons?"

"That's good. She's a real good mummy." Silas nodded his head a little, smiling. "Uh-huh! Sonnet is verry naiss an' she goes reel slow when I dun understan' what the words are sayin'." The grin grew wider. "Sometimes she makes cookies 'n stuff to snack on durin' the lessens." Sonnet's cooking was definitely the best, or well... he couldn't decide between Momo's and Sonnet's... he supposed it didn't really matter though. "You shud come over sometime an' maybee Sonnet will make us some snacks. Or Momo, she's my sister from my other Mummy's. She cooks really good too."

The invitation to come over sometime made Nadia genuinely smile. "That would be nice, I'd like to come over sometime. Also if you're ever around the dorms you could always come visit me if you liked. I live in room 23. I don't have a roommate, or at least I've never met her. But I always enjoy having company." She tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "So what were you doing out here by the lake anyway?" Nadia was curious and she was sure it definitely wasn't just to watch her practice dancing. She didn't often see people out here though so it made her wonder what he was up to.

"I'll let Mummy know, I bet she will be happy." He nodded a few times. "I dun really live in the dormytorrees anymoar, but I like to walk around them sometimes so I will try to visit." Asu had him move all of his belongings into her house, at first he hadn't really wanted to but he quickly warmed up to the idea.
"Oh, um." He held up his sketchbook. "I been practisin' a lot so I wan'ed to take a break 'n sketch some stuffs to paint over later." Silas looked back at the lake. "An' the lake is pretty so I figgered it'd be a good thing to paint."

"Sounds good Silas. I'll keep an eye out for you when I'm around between classes." Nadia smiled and nodded her head at the bit about the two of them visiting and hanging out later. She looked interested as Silas held up the sketchbook.
"Oh? You can draw and paint? You should show me some of your sketches. If you're comfortable with that, that is." She had heard that sometimes artists could be touchy about sharing their work if they weren't comfortable with you. While she couldn't understand it herself she didn't really want to make Silas feel uncomfortable.

"I'm not as good at drawin' as I am at payntin'." He shrugged and flipped back a few pages to a picture that had fully been painted over. It was the one he had drawn of Cambria when they first met at her pageant. "I metted this girl awhile ago at one of her pah-gents. I haven't seen her in a long times, but it's not hard to remember sommun with unique colors like this." He grinned. Cambria sure was interesting... he still needed to get her that glitter. How could he have forgotten?
"Do you not draw, Nadia?" Silas knew that there were people who didn't, but it seemed more often than not that he met those who did. Or at least seemed artistically inclined.

Nadia peered at the paintings taking in the colors and the brush strokes that Silas had used. She wouldn't claim to know very much about art besides dancing, but she liked what she saw. She'd met Cambria once and it looked like her to Nadia.
"I like this painting of Cambria... the colors look exactly like her colors from what i can remember. But no I don't really draw. It's not that I've never tried, I'm just not very good at it. The only art I know much of anything about is dancing." She smiled and did a little demonstrative pose. Then she turned Silas's question around on him. "Do you know how to dance Silas?"

"oh, you met Cambria?" Silas grinned. "She was pretty naiss." He nodded his head a little and closed the book. "Naw, I like watchin' though. I dun have enough uhh... cord...cordinashun.... to dance right." He shrugged a bit. "But issokay, I like watchin' jus' fine. What kinda dance were you doin' before?"
