Oceanus almost always found himself near the ocean. No matter what was going on it was where he wanted to be at the shore watching the waves flow back and forth. He wanted to hear the sounds of the water crawling up the shore then back down it. He loved hearing the birds above him and the other creatures wandering around him. The beach truly was his favorite place to be and he loved it there so much. For him there was always something to do, always something interesting and new for him to do, it was always great.
Today he found himself at the shore once more and he was finding something else for him to do once again. He sat not to far away from the water digging a hole, a nice sized hole, big enough for an adult lion. He had been working on his for the last few days but he made it just far enough where the water couldn't reach it. But he wanted water in it! Wet sand was some of his favorite sand. It was almost done he was using his paws to pat down the rest of the sand. He was trying to make it hard enough so that he could climb out of it. He popped his head out of the hole, he was just tall enough to see over it.
He pushed himself out of the hole and then giggled and then started to move toward the shore. He dragged his paw against the ground, creating a mote of sorts pulling his paws toward the hole dragging them more and more. He grinned as he saw the water start to flow through the water and he then finally made it to his hole. He grinned ear to ear as he watched some of his water flow into the hole. He then jumped into the hole proudly flicking his tail around.
Now what?

"Didya know that if you bury a crab in a hole it can dig itself out but it's a lot harder for a lion to dig himself out of a hole if you bury him in? That doesn't make sense, cause a lion is so much bigger then a crab, it should be a lot easier."
The new arrival, who padded quietly up behind Oceanus and probably could have gone unnoticed, covered completely in sand, was Welchenos. Welchenos was always in trouble with something or other - most recently for almost burying himself alive in a sand pit.
"What are you going to do with the hole once it's fulla water?"

Oceanus was surprised by the voice, he wasn't expecting it. He looked back at the other lion and arched a brow. "I'm not trying to side myself into a hole." He shook his head before looking around and patting his tail in the water. "I think crabs can just get through the dirt easier because they're harder." He thought out loud, it was hard to eat a crab some times, they were really hard to get the meat out of them and the outside wasn't very tasty either.
He looked down at the water starting to form a puddle around his feet. "I didn't think of that quite yet." He motioned his paw toward one of the sides of the pit. "If you wanna join me you can just be really careful I've been working on this the last few days." He paused before looking at his brother. "I was just planning on sitting int it and enjoying the water, by the time it gets over here it's kind of warm." He then looked at his brother once gain. "Do you know what I can do with it?" He asked curiously not very sure of what to say about it.

Welchenos considered for a few minutes. If he had a big hole that was filled with water, what would he do with it?
"We could test things in it," he said finally. "One of us could sit in it to see and the other one could drop things on top and see what floats and what doesn't float, cause I don't know why somethings stay on top of the water and some things don't. And I think it's worth knowing and I can't test it myself."
He stopped for a breath. "Or we could just sit in it and surprise mom when she comes looking for us and we can burst out like crabs but then she'll probably be upset that we scared her and give us a bath so maybe we shouldn't do that."

Oceanus was liking his brother's thinking. He made a bit of a face before looking around that would be a interesting thing to do. He really never considered what would float or what wouldn't. Not at all did he ever think of that. So doing that would be a VERY interesting idea. But they just had to find things to put in the water. That was easy enough right?
He paused for a moment and shook his head at his brother's second suggestion. "The last time we tried to surprise mom she got mad at us!" He laughed some and then looked at his brother again and motioned toward the water. "Pretending to be crabs sounds like fun though... But the first idea also sounds like fun." He pulled himself carefully out of the pool flicking his hair around before looking back at his brother. "But what are we going to put in there?"

"Everything. Anything. Anything we can find." Welchenos ran around grabbing anything around he saw. A shell, some seaweed, a discarded crab shell. He lined them all up on the side of his brother's hole.
"What else is there to test?" he said, looking around. "I know rocks don't float already, they sink right down. We could go collect more though."

Oceanus looked at his brother just a little confused before laughing and nodding at the other boy. "I guess that makes sense." He commented and then started to look around for things that he could put into the water. He ran close to the water's edge grabbing some seaweed and carrying it back to the water and placed it next to everything then looked back at his brother. "We can figure out more things to put in here but I can't think of that much more."
She paused once again and then flicked her hair out of her eyes. "Rocks are just those kind of things that look like they don't even look like they are going to float that makes me pretty sad." she shook her head with a bit of a sad face.

"So do you want to go into the water and watch things float or sink, or do you want to stay out here and drop things in?"
Welchenos whipped his tail around. He loved experimenting. "One day I want to catch one of those birds that float and test them, cause something that looks as heavy as they do probably shouldn't float and I want to know how they do when they land on the water when it's calm. I wonder if all birds float?"

He looked at his brother and then nodded before he started to climb into the water. "I'll watch them sink!" He commented simply as he flicked his tail around and looked up at his brother again. "Ready when you are!" He chuckled some as he flicked his tali around before thinking about his brother's question for a few moments. "I think they do..." He paused once again before turning toward the other male for a moment. "I mean they seem really fluffy and fluffy things float right?

"Yeah, but some birds never go near the water. You would think that if they could all float, they all would go in the water."
Welchenos picked up a feather and held it over the water in his teeth. "Item one," he said around it. "A feather. Most likely floats." He dropped it.

Oceanus paused for a moment as he though some before turning toward him again. "You're right though. I see a lot in the sky." He thought for a moment he was a little disappointed by the idea before his ears twitched. "Wait! There are those birds with the big neck things..." He thought again for a moment not really that sure of their names. He forgot. "But They float in the water some times!" He nodded again puffing out his chest. "I've seen it before, they float on the waves and stuff."
"I think they're pretty neat," He said simply once again he paused before looking at the item that the male was about to grab, bringing a few other objects to the male, a leaf, a flower, a rock, and a twig. He dropped them before looking at the feather and settling into the water."It looks like it floats!"

Not content to pronounce judgement yet, Welchenos crouched and examined the feather from all angles around their little pool, waiting at least half an agonizingly long minute before he agreed. "It shows no signs of sinking. Very good."
He scooped it out of the water and put it on one side of the test chamber. "This will be the float pile, and the other side will be the sink pile. Too bad we can't catch a bird."

Oceanus looked at the father still carefully, keeping an eye on it. Also making sure that it, infact, was not going to sink. He then grinned ear to ear and nudged it toward his brother for him to grab. "I had a feeling it might float." He was proud of himself, his idea was true.
He paused for a moment and then laughed. "I know! It would be cool if we could. I still think they might float, I mean the father floated." In his mind that was the perfect reasoning.

Welchenos's mind shot forward. "Once we're done this, I bet we can figure out a way to trap a bird and see if it floats. It will probably take a lot of patience though. Too catch it I mean, not to see if it floats, it shouldn't take very long at all to see it floats. We'll just have to drop it in the water."

Oceanus thought about the idea of trapping a bird for a moment. To a point he really didn't like it at all, that sounded mean to him anyway. "Well, maybe we could try to convince one to help us figure it out first?" He offered the idea, to him that sounded like a much better idea then the other hopefully his brother agreed to the idea. He paused as another idea came to his mind, he looked at his brother and grinned ear to ear. "What if we asked mom if she knows and birds that will want to help us?"
