Unai was sitting at the boundry of the desert that was home to Solarie, and the forest that lay beyond. It was actually a very nice bit of land, green grass growing out of soft, sandy soil and the occasional hearty flower poking it's colored head up. In such a pretty little patch of land, Unai's surly posture looked a bit out of place.
What was he thinking?! His own future was still sketchy enough, with Solarie claiming he belonged to them and him not sure if that's what he wanted or not. Sure that's where his parents were, and probably all his sibs. But then he had to go and add this to his plate?!
There was no guarantee the strange vixen was even going to show. As Unai thought this the ghost of a smirk and the flash of amber glass and violet eyes intruded in his mind. "Argh!" He wiped his head back and forth to try to dispell the image. Ambra just had that effect on him for some reason, like she knew all the negative thoughts in his mind and just by giving him that look it made him feel all childish and silly for even thinking like that in the first place.
When had that started to happen?!
Unai stared broodily down at the grass poking up around his paws. Yea, Ambra definetly wasn't coming. Why would she even bother with a negative nonentity like him when she radiated cool and desirability. There were probably tons of others better than Unai all lining up to win her over. What chance did he have?

Ambra made her way to the appointed meeting place, smiling a little to herself. The woods quickly gave way to sparse grass. She was off to meet Unai, an interesting fox in her opinion. He seemed to only want to see the worse case scenario, which made Ambra want to tease him out of it. And she did, mostly by turning his words and making him pull himself out of his own thinking.
Trotting faster, she caught sight of the male in the distance, looking moodily at the loose sand around his feet. Chuckling, she shook her head and picked up the pace, padding up to Unai and smirking.
"And what did the grass do to you that was so bad that you have to glare it into submission, Unai?" She asked, tail twitching in amusement.

"I'm just making sure it knows that when I die and my body goes to suppliment it's nutrition, it had better grow nice and thick and green," Unai replied. What, had he moved on from pessimism to morbid? Last he heard mood swings were supposed to be a female thing. Just went to show what happened when one assumed one was safe...
Unai realized he was in danger of drowning in morphing thought lines, and so decided now was a good time to pull back to the present and give his guest some company. He'd invited her after all, and Unai wouldn't put it past Ambra to give him a good n** on the tail if he started sinking further and further into a blank state.
He looked up. "Good to see you again, Ambra," he said, the greeting feeling so odd since he'd never before really thought it good to see another again, and that he wasn't tagging anything on like, 'but I'm sure it was a total fluke that will never happen again,' or something of that nature. After all, Unai wasn't what you'd call a believer in perfect relationships, either planned or spontanious.

"Well, isn't that nice, hoping you can help out the grass after you're gone. And not just the grass, the animals that will sate their hunger with the grass and so on." Ambra pointed out. "You're very good at thinking ahead, Unai." The blue striped fox pointed out with a smile. She knew good and well Unai usually said these things pessimistically, but it was fun to turn his comments on their head. And, she hoped, getting him to think a little more positive...maybe.
"It's good to see you too, Unai. What have you been up to since last I've seen you?" She asked, sitting down next to him.

Unai just stared at Ambra. "And I hope the fox eating the beast that ate the grass that grew from my decaying corspe chokes on it," he muttered, too quietly for Ambra to hear. He quickly composed himself so she wouldn't try to turn that into some kind of positive as well. Really, it was annoying how she always seemed to manage that.
"I've been...wandering, mostly," he said. "You know, trying to figure out all that major life stuff and which path will least screw me up all while going for a bit of solitude so I know the answers are entirely my own and not biased by someone else's opinion. I'll probably have to start over, since you're here now." The last bit was actually meant to be cheeky.

Ambra shook her head. "But I haven't even tried to influence you yet." She teased back. "Here let me try so that you have a good reason to start over. Take the path on the right." She said with a smirk and a saucy twitch to her tail.
"As for wandering...so long as you're not lost, that should be some sort of fun. And if not fun, good exercise." Ambra snickered and pawed at the ground before going back to semi-serious conversation. "Do you not have solitude where you live?"

Unai just rolled his eyes. There was no path to take, how silly! And then he caught himself wondering if that was Ambra's plan, that by telling him which path to take that she knew he would take no path at all! That cunning vixen! She was smarter than he gave her credit for.
But he wasn't going to clue her in on that, so Unai completely ignored that first bit and focused on the wandering and solitude part. Here, he snorted. "Well we are at the edge of a desert, and there's plenty of places one would think make a good place to wander off. Unfortunately, the Solarie tribe has always been a bit too good at being happy, energetic, and positive."

"None of which you're particularly tolerant off all the time." Ambra said in understanding. "There's definitely something to be said about getting away from it all every once in a while." She paused and tilted her head to one side and eyed the male fox.
"Which, of course, does not explain why you invited me to intrude on your solitude." She pointed out, watching Unai through her amber sunglasses.

Unai shrugged, suddenly feeling just a bit uncomfortable. It was like a sand lizard tried to make a nest in his throat, and he almost had to clear it before he could speak. Almost, but thankfully the words came out on their own. He hated to think of how much Ambra would have teased him for a stutter. The blush was bad enough as it was...
"You don't make me feel crowded," was all he said. Not very elaborate, but the whole point was to keep it vague enough that Ambra had several options to guess from. Unai's negative brain was already whirling down paths of her ditching him for being clingy/creepy for making love declarations, him having to ditch her for the same reason, them both deciding they were destined for each other and ending up at each other's throats all the time arguing cause they'd rushed into something. The list went on and on, and it probably showed on his face.

Ambra watched Unai blush and held in her smirk. The poor male was uncomfortable for not being uncomfortable with her presence. She felt less amused when his face went from blushing to frowning and nearly panicky. Moving rather impulsivly she reached out and put a paw on his nose.
"Unai...you..." Ambra paused and tried to think of a good excuse for attempting to break his train of thought. "You had a creepy looking bug on your nose. I didn't want you to get poisoned by it or something." Pulling her paw back she looked around as if nothing had happened, but watched the male out of the corner of her eye.

Unai raised both brows as he looked over Ambra's paw on his nose. Bug? The worst that was mostly likely out here would be bees, and unless his ears were totally clogged up he should have heard one... Unless the period of lying had already begun and Ambra was making all of this up!
Okay calm, gotta stay calm. What should he do? If they were in the lying stage did he lie back and pretend there had been a bug on his nose as well? But if Ambra knew that he knew that she was lying, his lie could make things worse! What if he told the truth and declared there was no way a bug could make it to his nose undetected? She'd either get really embarassed for being caught in a lie and run away, or get mad at him for calling her bluff and probably lie about how she hadn't lied. Then they'd argue, get mad at each other, and she'd still go running off!
Ambra pulled back and Unai knew he had to say something. "Uh, I-," he managed, still caught in indecision of what he should say.
((Ya know, I think the pessimism is getting worse XD ))

Seeing she had made everything worse, she tried for a bit of humor instead. After all, it was a pretty weak excuse. Seemingly ignoring his stuttering, she turned her paw over and examined the pad studiously. "Yep, just as I thought. It's the panic bug." She looked up at Unai and smiled. "Were you thinking too much again?"
He did have that habit. And he always thought about all the things that could go wrong. She shook her head gently. "It's probably a good thing you do, though. If you're prepared for the worst, you can react much faster than one who isn't prepared at all."

Unai looked mildly taken aback for a moment, then managed a small smile. Panic bug, nice. "Habits are hard to break, and this one's been with me for a good portion of my life," he said, by way of apology. Okay it was more of an excuse and all stuff Ambra probably already knew, but the intention was well-meant.
"Nice to know my habit is both good and bad in turns though," he said, with a weak chuckle at his attempt at a joke. He cleared his throat and tried collecting his thoughts. "I'm been rude though. How have you been since I last saw you?"

Ambra raised her eyebrows at Unai's smile. Well, would wonders never cease. "Habits are, indeed, hard to break. But I think you should make a habit out of smiling, I think it suits you." She replied. It was true, the smile didn't "light up his whole face" or some such romantic nonsense, but it did take some of the eternal worry he always seem to carry vanish for a few seconds. She liked his smile and was glad she had some hand in helping this one appear.
And then he chuckled and Ambra chuckled back. "It's good to be prepared. But it's good to just live in the moment too. As for me...overall I've been good. Missed a few kills, had to deal with a freak storm, but I'm still alive and here I am talking with you. So I'm definitely landing on the good side."

Little worry wrinkles creased Unai's brow again. "A storm," he half-asked, half-prompted, hoping to get a little more detail. Here in the desert they mostly got wind storms that kicked up large amounts of sand. There was the occasional lightning storm, and the extremely rare rain storm. He wasn't exactly sure why it mattered what kind of storm Ambra had gone though. More fodder to worry at later? Possibly, he was always worrying about something at any given time.
He did try to tone it down a notch or two though, and make this more about curiousity than a laundry list of things that could have gone horribly and/or violently wrong. That was perhaps one of the more useless parts of his pessimism, worrying over the past. Thankfully he had only done it rarely. Even less after meeting Ambra.
