Hakim's house is located close to the center of Barton. It is one floor and has whitewashed walls and a terracotta roof. (OOC note: It's built in a Roman style)

Hakim shares the house with his business associate Amarante She's short tempered, but you might meet her if she's feeling sociable.

Rules.

Hakim is neurotic when it comes to being tidy. All public areas, such as the atrium, kitchen and gardens are pristine. Visitors are expected to remove shoes at the door and take care not to disturb things.

As with Aubri's house remember this is a home, you are a guest and expected to act with care and respect.

The atrium is furnished like a livingroom with comfortable couches and a central pool and fountain. The floor is mosaic, statues stand in alcoves around the walls.
Two family shrines exist in this Area...one to Isis, the other to Artemis. Visitors are advised not to touch anything that might be on these shrines.

1. Kitchen ---> Simple and usually full of fresh herbs and spices.

1. Hakim's collections ---> Usually off limits
2. Hakim's room -----> [x] Plain in style and usually very tidy.

1. Amarante's workshop ----> where she conducts her curse/necromancy business from.
2. Amarante's room

The rooms around the gardens are used mainly for storage. Books and random items. Herb drying and ingredients.

Aubri knocked on the door, looking around. The house really was rather impressive - and it looked spacious. The same couldn't really be said of her own house.

In her arms, a collar and leash firmly in place (just in case), was a small... kitten? A kitten with green fur and lavender wings. A kitten who was being very well behaved...

Except that he'd refused to leave the bathroom for half an hour that morning. That had not been fun.

Hakim had spent the morning cleaning the already spotless house, he had found a slight mud mark on the marble of the atrium that morning and had felt the need to polish the whole floor again. He had just finished when there was a knock at the door.

Rolling down his shirt sleeves he crossed the floor with care and opened the door.
"Ah Aubri, Welcome. How have you been?" He asked grinning. A grin that spread wider as he noticed the small creature in her arms. "Please, come in and sorry, but I'll have to ask you to remove your shoes." He said pointing to a rug to the left of the door.

She held the Uluen and leash out to him. "Take him, please!" she grumbled, depositing the Uluen in his hands. Then she knelt, unzipping and pulling off her boots, setting them by the door. She wiggled her toes, clad in thick white socks. Without the height provided by her boots, her skirt pooled on the floor around her feet.

"So. There he is." She waved her hand a little. "Your bouncing baby boy. Vain little creature."

Hakim took the small creature from Aubri. He went silently giving Hakim a sceptical look as he tried to get comfortable in the new person's arms.

"Thank you Aubri." Hakim smiled smoothing the kitten's fur. "He's beautiful."

At those words Shandar's ears pricked up, almost as it he could understand and what looked like a satisfied grin appeared on his mouth.

Hakim smiled at Aubri, who seemed to have dropped a few inches without her boots. "Would you like to take a seat, have some some tea?" He asked gesturing to the seated area. "Is there anything important I should know about him?"

"You're very welcome. Tea would be nice, thank you," she agreed, sitting down gratefully and crossing her legs.

"Only thing I can think to tell you is that he's obsessed with mirrors. Can't get enough of himself, it seems. Oh, and he's a picky eater - I have yet to find anything he particularly likes, though, so I can't help you there.

Hakim placed Shandar on one of the seats. The kitten walked in a circle, sat down and began to preen himself.
"Mirrors?" Hakim mused. "Yes, he does seem to be a little vain."

He made the tea swiftly. Always being prepared he had put the kettle on just before Aubri arrived. Returning to the room he handed her a cup and sat down next to Shandar, who was now asleep.
"Being a picky eater shouldn't be a problem. I suppose I'll just have to try him on different things until he decideds what he likes."

Cupping the mug in two hands he smiled at his new charge. "Sorry if you've already explained this too me, but when will he be capeable of speech?"

She blew on her tea for a moment, then took a tentative sip. Too hot.

"He should be capable of basic words now, but he's refused to talk to me. However, the immersion at my home should have imparted basic vocabulary and grammatical skills on him. Within a week or two, from what I understand, he'll jump forward remarkably in his ability to formulate sentences. I want to see him regularly, for lessons."

Hakim looked down at the small kitten. He was certainly going to be a handful, vain, fussy and quite possibly stuck up.
"Lessons sound good. I am keen to have him learn as much as possible." Hakin nodded. He could have sworn he heard the kitten make a sound like a snort at the word 'lessons.'
"Well, I'll certainly do my best to encourage his progress."

"Good. I have to ask one last thing - that you keep your doors open for the other owners, in case there is a problem... or in case their Dumyr want somebody to play with." She reached into the messenger bag at her hip and pulled out a small book. Handing it to him, she smiled a little. "A journal, for progress, in case you want to keep records. In the back is a small address book area. I've written down names and addresses, along with their usual at-home times. Each person will get one of these.

Hakim took the notebook and nodded in agreement. "Of course, I want him to socialise with the other Dumyr as much as possible. Maybe it will help snap him out of his fussiness."

Hakim returned her half smile, opened the small journal and ran his fingers over the page. "Excellent." He said closing it again and placing it in his lap. "A good way to organise his progress."

Picking up his tea once more he wondered if there was anything else he should ask. Yet he was at a loss. It all seemed to be pretty straight forward. "Thank you." He said simply finishing off his tea.

A second tentative sip. It was about right in temperature for her, so... she downed the entire thing in one gulp? So cultured.

"You're welcome," she said, putting the cup down on the table. "I'd better be going - I have Miss Trintika's girl to drop off, as well." Rising, she headed back for the door. "Call me if you need anything." And with that... she was out the door. Really, the woman could be so abrupt.

Somewhere in the house, a phone was ringing.

It rang three or four times, and when nobody answered, a small red light began to blink, quietly. A woman's voice came over the line.

"Hm. Didn't expect to find you gone. Well, I'll keep this short. Hakim, I need you to come over here. We need to talk about Shandar. It's about his training. I'll be home..."

She proceeded to leave a short lists of days and times when she wouldn't be working. Then, after leaving her name, just in case, Aubrianna hung up.

The light continued to blink.

Hakim had spent the entire morning shopping in the market with Shandar. He was a good shopping parter with an impecable eye for detail.

He was a quiet creature, a little too calculating for Hakim's liking. Not that he didn't enjoy the Dumyr's company, he just didn't entirely trust him.
Pushing open the heavy wooden door of the house he allowed Shandar to go first.

Shandar nodded his head to Hakim and stalked up the steps into the atrium. The witch, Amarante as she had told him to call her, sat reading in one of the alcoves.
"Welcome home." She said to both of them looking up briefly. Purring Shandar jumped up on the seat and curled up at her feet.
"Finally." He yawned. "He takes far too long at the ugly ornament stores." His comment was rewarded with a snort of amusement from Amarante.

"Those 'ugly ornaments' are actually objects of great tribal significance. Not everything of value is beautiful." Hakim muttered sliding off his shoes. Shandar yawned again to show his disinteret and swished his tail.
Amarante looked up again and raised a finger.
"Oh...the thing rang." She said vaguely pointing at the telephone. "It rang and then spoke. Uh...that Aubri woman. She wants to speak to you about Shandar."

Shandar looked up at his name and across to Hakim. The short man looked at his watch and placed his bags of shopping on the floor.
"Hmm I had better go and find out what she wants." He said making his way back to the door. "Are you coming Shandar?"

Trintika

Trin was having a great day. She had just gotten her shopping done, and she and Laima were having a nice conversation over the pros and cons of butter and margerine. Trin figured she may as well finish this day off with a visit to one of the other owners-- one of the owners she hadn't gotten to know as well at the meeting. She had her journal in her bag, so she looked up the address of the owner nearest her. "Hakim," she mumbled, looking at her surroundings.

"Wow," she said, blinking. "It's right around the corner." With Laima jogging at her side, Trin walked to the house and walked confidently enough up to the doorstep, then paused, searching for the elusive doorbell or knocker. She finally found the door knocker and rapped it sharply three times.
