Spring had already come into full bloom, and the pack's land flowered into beauty. All around him the plants were coming into true realization, the haze of pollen now past with the warm southern winds several weeks before. All was beginning to brighten, Fantasia thought - or perhaps the natural wonder surrounding him was coloring his perception.
This was not at all bad for his usually serious mind. His sister would have been delighted.
The alpha had awakened from his early afternoon nap with purpose. Now that it was a little cooler, he thought it a good day to take the seeds had had procured and begin spreading them just a little more beyond the pack's boundaries. With more wolves in their ranks thanks to several breedings, Fanta thought it was high time to being a little expansion. Carefully he rolled about in the small cache in his den, letting the seeds cling to his fur, before trotting out.
Past the hills which lead to the rockier side. Past the dens of the citizens. Past the Thorn Barrier.
He took a deep breath of fresh air through his nose, smiled a little, and pushed forward. A simple task, but a rewarding one.

Aduial had come to the conclusion that merely acting like a princess was not enough -- she had to really step into the role, or else she was only playing make-believe, and she was entirely too old to be playing such games.
She did wish her bodyguard -- as she had taken to thinking of him -- had come along. The further she got from home, the more she wished not only for his support, but also for his company. She made note not to leave pack lands again without Cern at her side. Traveling along was far too dull, and what if she got hurt?
Still, a princess must do what she must.
For some time now Aduial had desired to take a more diplomatic role in her pack, and when news had traveled to her ears of a well-mannered pack of wolves who governed themselves with the sort of countenance she herself respected...well, she had to see it with her own eyes. Draug Faroth needed allies, and Aduial needed to practice her skills.
So when the scent of another wolf caught her delicate nose, a smile crept upon the teen's maw and she padded forward toward the presence of the alpha.

A light hum fell from his lips, something he had caught from a bird who thought to write true songs rather than chirp away. A fine fellow, that bird, though for the life of him he could not recall what species! Fanta at best was one who could recognize most roses and poisonous plants, but beyond that his specific knowledge was limited.
Though caught in the small moment of introspection, the alpha was alert enough to hear the obvious pawsteps of an approaching wolf: neither sneaking nor abnormally fast. A visitor perhaps? He lifted his tail and turned in the direction of the sound, woofing, "Who comes?"
He then recalled he might not look his best, given that his fur was now the home of quite a few seeds, and his nap might have ruffled more beyond that. Ah, what a tittering it would have gotten from his mother!
Gingerly, Fantasia shook himself, as if that might cover up some of the problem.

Aduial's ears swept forward at the call of another, and a soft smile crept up her maw as sme made her way forward. The alpha came into sight and she took a moment to allow her eyes to linger on him and absorb his apearance.
Apparently satisfied with what she saw, she closed the gap between them and paused a respectful few feet away, dipping her head respectfully. "I hope you will forgive the intrusion, sir," she said, with as much of a dignitary air as she could manage. "My name is Aduial. My pack lies some distance East of here, but word of this pack has reached us there and I thought it prudent to come see for myself."

The east? Fantasia studied the youth with some curiosity, though given that his eyes were almost the color of his fur it was hard to read this. "Greetings, Aduial of the east," he replied after a short moment of observation, nodding a little. "I am Fantasia, the Grand Master of this pack - an equivalent to the alpha rank. What pack do you hail from?"
He knew only of the surrounding packs' names, to be honest. For so long he had pushed his members to be within the borders to make sure they fortified the Thorn Wall and claim the land as theirs during the harsh winter . . . Terabithia's idea of scouts was beginning to sound appealing with the weather beginning to warm up. He could not remain ignorant now, and this random chance of meeting with an emissary proved it.

"Draug Faroth," she clarified. She settled down upon her haunches, primly wrapping her tail about her hindquarters. "We are a small, family-oriented pack with simple manners, it would hardly surprise me if we've gone unnoticed."
Her eyes ticked over him, thoughtfully, as she debated just what she should say next. She decided that directness was best. "I've come, in truth, because have some uneasiness about my future there, and wanted a glimpse at other options in the world. Also because, if I were to remain with my kin, I would be interested in forging an alliance."

"Of Draug Faroth," he rectified, though the words were so foreign in his mouth that he almost mis-annunciated. Quite the name there. Perhaps they spoke a second language?
Fantasia nodded at her added explanation, answering, "I fully understand. In truth I have not been diligent in finding this pack allies beyond our borders: you are presenting me with an opportunity just as much as I present one to you." He flagged his tail, indicating for Aduial to follow as he continued further into the forest. "Come. Tell me of your pack while we walk. I was meaning to plant the seeds you see in my fur."

"I did not know that wolves had any interest in gardening," Aduial said, following after him at a polite distance and taking a moment to appreciate the splendor of the roses that bloomed around her. "Cocidius would be intrigued," she said, mostly to herself, but the thought made her smile. She could just see him here, at home amongst the flowers. She would have to suggest it to him sometime, given his affinity with animals -- plants were, only naturally, the next challenge.
"Our interest is in prey," she said, remembering that Fantasia had intended to discuss their respective homes. "And the delicate balance of keeping it well-tended. Hunting has a special significance in holding our pack together."

Hmm, hunting? Certainly a pack's activity, but . . .not one that Fantasia would have thought would be the basis of an entire pack. Had Aduial not seemed so civil, he would have been given the impression of a regression to barbarism and instinct - the latter which was not necessarily bad, but if tempered by the former, well . . .
But come now. If he continued that path, the girl would think his ponderous frown would be worrisome.
"You live in the forest then, I presume," Fantasia answered once she finished, keeping their pace light. "I can smell the trees mingling with your scent. A prime place for prey, though I imagine the trees make it more hazardous." Typically the Order's hunts were conducted on the flat plains that sprawled opposite the growing incline to their north, where a small spine of mountains began.
He could imagine it now: Chantily conducting the hunt yet accidentally ramming into a tree in her haste. The thought made his lip quiver humorously.
"By well-tended, what do you mean? Keeping moderation, or do you . . . corral them?"

She laughed at the thought. "Well, there is one doe who chooses to live among us with immunity," she said, thinking of Cocidius's odd companion. "But, no. I mean -- we see that their needs are provided, that they are hunted honorably and carefully so their numbers remain plentiful."
She cast her own bright gold eyes over the territory, intensely curious as to the way other packs kept their affairs.

"Hmm . . ." He let conversation slide away for a few moments as he spotted a few choice spots of soil, pausing to turn to them. Raising a paw, he began to dig small pockets in the dirt, then shook himself a little so that some of the seeds fell out. "A doe lives among us as well," Fantasia said as he pushed the seeds into their allocated slots. "A bright green one. Her 'bonded' companion is not as particularly enthusiastic, but she retains immunity as well."
The seeds were then patted over with the dug-up soil, and the alpha was content to see them (hopefully) be ready for whatever rain came. He returned to Aduial. "I would hope all wolves would keep such a code," Fantasia remarked with a raised brow. Wasn't it . . . common sense? He didn't understand a pack coming together under only one such banner, but then he thought all things needed to have a deeper purpose than what was just shown.
"Here, we live within a ring of barbed and poisoned plants known as the Thorn Wall - you might have spotted it in the distance when we first met. It purposefully has one space open to allow a wolf to enter, but only in single file to prevent an onslought. Should that happen," he added with a shrug, continuing their walk onward. "One is never too careful."
It almost made him feel a little superior, knowing that The Order not only was spreading but sounded, well . . . stronger in comparison to most packs. "Are the trees used as a defensive position against invaders?"

She watched him, completely entranced by this very odd action. Gardening wolves. Who would have thought? Maybe she would ask Cern about it later. He knew a lot of things that others didn't...perhaps there were birds that gardened, also. Wouldn't that be funny...
Distracted, she phased back into conversation. "...You would be surprised," she said, in response to his comment about other wolves. She didn't quite bristle, but she felt a certain need for defensiveness on the topic. Not that she had seen it with her own eyes, of course, but she had heard tales of packs destroying their food source with carelessness, tearing themselves apart in the process. That's what had happened to Prion, she thought. And look at him!
Her brows raised. "Do you have many enemies?" She asked, surprised at the need for such thorough defenses. "We don't get many visitors in the depths of our wood, but so far as I know there are none who mean us ill."

As usual Winston was wondering through the lands without rhythm nor reason, for such a mind as his he was growing more and more frustrated with the lack of use. He was too old to be trained as a warrior or protector, whatever they titled themselves either way it did not concern him for he simply wasn't up to the role, aged bodies didn't serve that purpose well, no he needed a role where his mind could be put to good use. He was slipping into one of his moods he familiarly called 'black dog' when he was frustrated or depressed for one reason or another. Granted however meeting Demeter had brighten him slightly knowing someone else of age and reason lived within the pack, surrounded by the youth always reminded one of ones own mortality and it wasn't a relishing thought. It was with thoughts or mortality and purpose that he absently came across two wolves he'd not met before though of course from the sight of the large male he knew who he was from reputation and as for the young female he was not sure. Not knowing quite what he was intruding upon he clumsily shuttered the words, 'Hm, weeell, hm, yessss. If you'd fffforgive me.' He ground his teeth, hating his stammer with a passion yet it only usually surfaced when he was embarrassed. He steadied himself and calmly then his voice rumbled gruffly from his throat, 'I beg your pardon I didn't meant to intrude.' having never met Fantasia in the flesh before he was unsure about titles and forms of address and simply as an after thought he added, 'sir.'

Fantasia pondered. Enemies? Well there were the faceless evils he sought the end of, but . . . Named nemeses? "I do-"
But he paused midsentence and turned his ears towards the sound of brush breaking under paw. Eyes following quickly after, the alpha noted the green male who appeared bashful at his intrusion, and found some recognition in his voice and visage. This was . . . Winston. Ah yes, the older wolf who had come to the pack not long after Clementine and Natter. He vaguely recalled spotting him once or twice, but never up close. Terabithia and Disneyana had to alert him of his presence.
Fantasia nodded slightly. "Greetings, Winston was it? There is no call for hesitation, I was merely conversing with a visitor from Draug Faroth and showing her around. Would you care to join?" He was not sure how well the wolf knew his own pack's territory.

She perked up, interested to hear about the topic -- but the conversation made an abrupt shift as another wolf approached. Intrigued, she gazed over the older male, and wondered why he should be so nervous.
Things are different here, she reminded herself. And things were probably different everywhere when you weren't the alpha's daughter.
She dipped her maw in greeting. "My pleasure," she said. "My name is Aduial. Your...Grand Master...was just explaining the purpose of your impressive defenses."
